So, PJO magic is fundamentally based in divine power. Sea magic works for those with sea/river/lake/etc based divine power. Underworld magic works via the utilization of spirits, summoned with divine energy (can be with the aid of the divine rather than inherent divine energy tho), and sky magic works via divine connection to the sky but is less taking action and more asking for action to be taken.

TKC magic is inherent human magic. Those with an affinity for the divine sure, but who don't necessarily have divine power. They can do *more* with divine power, by calling upon the Gods and asking for aid or even hosting them, but it's not the core of their power. It uses their own power and life force in worst cases.

So basically, the primary difference is where the power comes from.

so, you wanted to start bookbinding?

so @princetofbone mentioned on my post for "factory settings" about wanting to know more about the binding style that i used for it. so i thought i might make a post about it.

i was as terrible as i always am for taking in progress shots, but i can link you to the resources i used in order to make my book. i would also like to point out that "factory settings" is my 120th bind, and i have been doing bookbinding as a hobby for just over 3 years now. unfortunately this means some of the methods that i used for that bind aren't particularly beginner friendly, just in terms of the tools and methods i have used, but i would love to point you in the right direction when it comes to resources. i dont say this to sound pretentious which i fear i might come across, just so that youre fully informed. getting into this hobby is fun and rewarding, but it can definitely be intimidating.

with that caveat, heres a list of links and resources that i have used for bookbinding in general, with additional links to methods i used specifically in regards to this bind.

ASH's how to make a book document. it gives you a great introduction into typesetting fics (where you format the text of fics to look like a traditionally published books) and then turning them into a case-bound book (the style i used for "factory settings"). it is comprehensive, and explains how to use microsoft word to do your bidding. it was invaluable to me when i was just starting out! currently i use affinity publisher to typeset/format my fics for printing, but i only bought and learned how to use that after i had been binding books for a year and a half. i made some beautiful typesets with word, and some of my close friends use it still and design stuff that i never would be able to in my wildest dreams (basically anything by @no-name-publishing)

DAS Bookbinding's Square Back Bradel Binding. a great style to do your first bind in! this method requires, when making the case, to attach the cover board and the spine board to a connecting piece of paper, which makes it so much easier to match the size of the case to the size of the text block (your printed out and sewn fic). using this method is what allowed me to get much more accurately fitting cases, and made me much more confident with the construction of the books i was making. a well-made book is something that is so wonderful to hold in your hands!

DAS Bookbinding's Rounded and Backed Cased Book. This is the specific method that i used to create my bind for "factory settings"! even before i could back my books, i found that watching DAS's videos in particular helped me see how books were traditionally made, and i was able to see different tips and tricks about how to make nicer books.

Book Edge Trimming Without... i trim the edges of my text block using my finishing press and a chisel i have sharpened using a whetstone and leather strop with buffing compound on it. i follow the method for trimming shown in this video!

Made Endpapers. i follow this method for my endpapers, as i used handmade lokta endpapers, and they can be quite thin, but they look beautiful! i used "tipped on" endpapers (where you have your endpaper and then put a thin strip of glue on the edge and attach it to your text block) i used for a very long time before this, but these feel like they are much more stable, as they are sewn with your text block.

Edge Sprinkling. this is the method that i used for decorating the edges of my text block. but the principle is basically clamping your text block tight and then sprinkling the edges. i do not believe you need to trim the edges in order to do sprinkles on the edges, and that's what makes it accessible! i personally just use really cheap acrylic paint that i water down and then flick it onto the edges with my thumb and a paint brush.

Double-Core Endbands. i sew my own endbands, which i followed this tutorial for. that being said, it's kind of confusing, and this video is a bit easier to follow, but it is a slightly different type of endband.

Case decoration. i used my silhouette cameo 4 to cut out my design for "factory settings" in htv (heat transfer vinyl). i also used my cameo 4 to cut out the oval of marbled paper on the front, as i honestly didn't want to try my hand at cutting an oval lol. i also glued some 300 gsm card with an oval cut out of the centre of it onto the cover before covering it with bookcloth, to get a kind of recess on the cover. i then glued the oval of marbled paper onto the top of the recessed area once it was covered with bookcloth, so that it was protected. the images i used were sourced from a mix of rawpixel, canva and pixabay. a more accessible way to get into cover decoration is by painting on a design for your cover as described in @a-gay-old-time's tutorial just here. or even doing paper labels, which look classy imo.

physical materials. sourcing these will depend on your country. i am located in australia, and have compiled a list with some other aussie bookbinders of places to buy from. here is a great post describing beginning materials for getting started binding.

@renegadepublishing. this tumblr is great! its what got me started bookbinding, and being in the discord has been inspiring, motivating, and honestly just one of the best online experiences i have ever had. it is full of resources, and most people in there are amateur bookbinders, with a couple of professionals thrown in. the discord is 18+, and anyone can join!

i'm sorry this post got so long, but i hope that this has a lot of information for you if you would like to get started bookbinding. its one of the best hobbies ive ever had, and i genuinely believe i will have it for the rest of my life.

she simultaneously fulfills several of my favorite tropes for [female] characters. she's the nice normal girl that probably has something deeply wrong with her on the inside, but she's become incredibly good at pretending everything's okay. she's also the childhood friend, someone who knows the protagonist on an intimate level that no one can quite replicate. she Also can very much fulfill another trope i like, which is Girl who looks like she's about to freak out and kill herself any second now. i cant wait to watch her become 100x more unstable in the coming chapters

all of those are just tropes/traits that i tend to like the most, so her personality/character alone is enough to make me like her

there's various details that make her really interesting in terms of the game itself. stuff like her being ever so slightly tied to gaster and the Weird disappearance of her sister, how her affinity for game glitches might mean something for the story, her entire extra pages of characterization from the spamton sweepstakes and what THOSE entries might mean for the story... i still think she will only be a character of secondary-importance in the main route but man i do think shes important to the story as a whole in ways that other characters arent.

shes lowkey kinda me. lol. i think a lot of people see themselves in noelle for various reasons. the general kind of Nice Normal i-need-to-get-along-with-everyone passiveness, on top of being the type of girl to present normally and then have a secret "weird side." that bit especially resonated a lot with me and surely with many other highly-masking autistic people i think -- feeling the need to 'convince' everyone you're normal, and then only being able to properly relax around people who really 'know' you. also, her whole thing about being scared by scary video games and movies and stuff only to immerse herself in them enough to eventually be comforted by them is like. So weirdly specific and also literally exactly how i was as a kid which is really funny. its stuff like that that makes her feel Real and relatable

the weird route. ill be so real i dont think id be half as interested in deltarune as a whole as i am now if it werent for the weird route LMAOOOOO. which i think is fair honestly. ofc im horribly interested to see where the main story goes, and i will definitely be invested in it. but the weird route carved a weird route shaped hole into my weird route shaped brain. its too peak. the alternate take on empowering noelle is so interesting, and dont even get me started on the strain it puts on kris's and noelle's relationship, their unique relationship they dont have with anyone else. i just think its exceptionally interesting how we've gotten to see noelle from so many different angles so far, and she's only been important for one chapter.

her design lowkey rocks? like call her little white dress boring or whatever but man does it open the door for so many cute and wonderful design interpretations. and also her palette shift into cooler colors but in Opposite Directions (brown fur becomes more reddish + yellow hair becomes more greenish) looks freaking awesome. i think ive seen an incredibly wide range of noelle designs more than literally any other character in the game

The Hundred Line: Romance Route

Finished the Romance Route for better or worse and...

Wow what a terrible first route xD

(Thoughts and spoilers for the whole route)

I guess for a start this route made me realize the 100 endings thing is less 100 routes and more maybe 10+ routes with several endings each. Romance Route had 8 endings. Curious to see if it's an outlier in that sense or what I should expect going forward

Things I liked:

Some of those endings were really fun actually! I liked Tsubasa's ending, the Nozomi rejects you ending, the fake out Harem ending, and the Graduation ending. But my favorite ending was the one where Takumi rejects all three girls & denies feeling anything romantic for Nozomi and then just proceeds to break down about how stressful and exhausting the whole thing was and gets comforted by Moko. It really sums up all my feelings about this route, and Takumi really deserved the comfort

Moko herself! She didn't make the best impression on me as a combat unit before the route split, but getting to see her playful side, and her caring, protective side towards her girlfriends is beautiful. The way she shut down the harem ending and apologized and comforted Takumi for the whole thing in the Forever Alone ending was also really nice

Tsubasa & Kyoshika's chapters were decent enough. Though I'm not sure if it's because anything was good after Kurara or because they were genuinely cute in their own right. Kyoshika was cute and silly, and Tsubasa was just more of Tsubasa being one of my fave characters in the group. So overall I am left with more positive feelings towards them!

The way the girls all comforted whoever got rejected. It was just Moko for Kurara, then Kurara & Moko for Kyoshika, and then all three for Tsubasa. Girl friendships are always so nice, especially in a romance route like this! I genuinely like that they never made the girls needlessly catty towards each other and instead had them being supportive. At worst it was just Kurara being Kurara.

Getting to mess around with the Safety difficult and learn how to one-round bosses was also really fun.

One rounding the Supreme Commander after the first Kurara Chapter Battle especially was sweet beautiful vengeance.

The Bad

THERE ARE NO FREE TIMES IN THIS ROUTE! From Day 24 - Day 100 you are locked into endless cutscenes and battles. Sure I got enough BP out of it to start giving my characters lots of upgrades BUT I HAD TO FIGHT SO MANY BATTLES JUST BARELY STRONGER THAN I WAS AT THE END OF THE FIRST ROUTE!

I also have like zero materials so even when I do get another Free Time, I'll need to spend it exploring instead of upgrading anyway T_T

It is. Extremely. EASY. to get onto this route. Like if you're someone who goes back to the last decision when you hit an ending or plot lock, and your first two choices where No -> No like mine were, and it's very easy for them to be that when the character whom you'll have a strong affinity for is nudging you towards those choices specifically. I'd probably hate this route a lot less if it wasn't my first full route in NG+. Could I have jumped to another choice at any time? Sure, but I like seeing things through to the end.

Having to experience those NG+ battles for the first time in this route is especially painful because they! are! Interesting! I would much rather be exploring the plot and implications of that than ignoring them as soon as the battle ends and spending 75 days with [Insert Girl Here]

Also have I mentioned that EVERYONE outside of Moko, Kurara, Kyoshika, and Tsubasa becomes a non-entity in this route? There were so many opportunities to include moments of Takumi interacting with the other characters so we can see what's happening in the school while the bs game is going on and hearing their thoughts or giving us a chance to learn about our main girls from other characters like we did with Hiroko on the day you go to if you DONT get onto this route - that's just insult to injury really! But also the group dynamic was something I really loved in this game and losing that completely for this route makes me really worried about other routes.

(I also just generally got worried that Takumi was being deliberately isolated which is um... maybe not how you want to structure a romance route of all things?)

Also who wrote this route? I want to know to avoid their routes! D:<

The Ugly

I can't decide if it's a good thing or bad thing that this route front loads it's single worst part. On the one hand, it means starting from Day 50, the route gets consistently better, but on the other it means Day 25-49 is completely insufferable to go through

In other words, if you had any sort of positive sentiments towards Kurara before this route, YOU SURE WON'T AT THE END OF IT! Congrats Kurara, you've become the single character I went from being whatever towards to ACTIVELY DESPISING!

And no her Romance ending doesn't make it better. It makes it WORSE ACTUALLY

I'm genuinely left under the impression that being isolated in his room for 25 days with her has given Takumi a severe case of stockholm syndrome. It's the only way I can explain her endings, especially the Mask one.

I'm still salty about not being able to absorb the TWO Commanders I had to beat in her chapter. Commander kills were literally my only way of getting stronger here >.>

Where would you recommend starting for someone wanting to get into Transformers? I feel like it’s a series I’d love but at this point I’m so behind that it feels intimidating, like I would have needed to become a fan at 6 years old to understand anything now </3

Oh absolutely not. The thing about transformers is that it's not one ongoing story, it's fifty semi related stories told at different times. You don't need to have seen transformers prime to enjoy transformers animated, you don't even need to have seen G1 to enjoy MTMTE. Most major continuities seek to stand on their own so that you DONT need to have consumed any other media first. You know how all the numbered final fantasy games are unrelated to the other ones? Like that.

Transformers One has easily made itself like the peak #1 entry point. It's perfect. You watch it, you get it. It's not consistent with the lore of every continuity, it's not even close for some of them, but it will ground you in the VIBES that exists at the core of the franchise. Its awesome. We love TFone.

If you wanna watch a series, or you can't get access to TFone for whatever reason, I always recommend Cyberverse. It's on YouTube for free and not only is it super fun and compelling, but it, I personally feel, manages to consolidate all the material it borrows or takes inspiration from within other continuities in the best way possible. It all feels so smooth and consistent in this lush world, but it also calls distinctly back to its origins. Cyberverse also, again, my personal opinion, walks and incredible line between being snappy and funny and a really enjoyable watching experience and some of the most extreme fridge horror I've ever seen

At this point most people will recommend the G1 cartoon, but I'm gonna level with you. If you don't already have an affinity for 80s cartoons, you might not actually like it. And if you are like Deep Into transformers like me, watching G1 feels satisfying even if I don't really like it, because, like. It's transformers. You can't pay me to watch any more he-man, but I'll sit through some transformers.

HOWEVER, you SHOULD watch the 1986 animated film at this point, ESPECIALLY if you like retro animation. This movie is gorgeous. It's also an hour and a half long music video. It's nonstop bangers. I STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend only watching the Blu-ray release of this film- it's fully remastered with colour correction, reshot cels, reworked sound- it's beyond comparison. I would genuinely hold off on watching the movie, even if it's fairly easy to find for free, to watch the remaster. It's worth it.

Do you like teen titans? Transformers animated. Same designer, same style. Beloved show. Transformers Prime is a huge leap into experimenting with new styles and interpretations, and it's also well loved in the fandom. It's something that feels engaging and intense the entire time you are actually watching it. Be prepared for some Absolute Yikes racism regarding one of the human characters, though.

I really can't recommend specifically at what point you should look at the IDW comics. They have Deep And Intense Lore and you really want to skip the majority of them. MTMTE/LL are the two comics you will likely hear most often about and they are truly some of the best shit ive ever read of anything ever, but also, goddamn are they dense and complex and filled with Deep Cut Lore you simply will not catch without reading tfwiki, no matter how familiar you are with the franchise. Unless you have read eeeeevrything that came before (and, frankly, you shouldn't, ignore the inevitable replies to this post) you're going to have "what" moments. Doesn't matter. Worth. Worth worth worth worth it will ruin your fucking life

Any chance you'd expand on the hank hill trans guy post? (Sorry, best indicator I could come up with.) The concept interests me as I decidedly know my maleness, yet don't feel impeded by for the most part, any male gendered norms/boxes. I am fairly masculine, though I rarely use those kinds terms to describe myself. I have found I often do stray outside of what society pushed for me when I transitioned, yet I again do not feel it has taken from my right to maleness whatsoever. I am just me, who happens to be male. I have had friends try and suggest I am NB adjacent but I do not feel this way whatsoever. I feel more people are outliers to gender expectation than we care to admit and it's disappointing the way cis-people deny that. Hope this wasn't too long winded, I value your writing and perspective, and wanted to hear more of your thoughts on this.

Yeah, well so many things all get conflated by gender labels, and it's all so personal, you know? Masculinity does not have to mean maleness, and a person's gender identity might be a reflection of some innate quality they experience themselves as having, or a general summary of their tendencies, or their desired presentation, or their sense of affinity with other people, or an interpersonal tool, or something they just go along with because it was given to them by society, or any other number of things.

I think my recent substack piece on detransition goes into this pretty well, and I have an upcoming piece of what @pastimperfection calls "bilateral dysphoria" that comes out next week that delves into it too.

I think I mostly saw taking on a male identity as a means to an end more than any kind of innate reflection of who I was, though I did feel an affinity with effeminate men for a lot of reasons. I think I also discounted how much I have in common with my fellow nonbinary people of all stripes, because that identity became so strongly associated with being an annoying type of queer person that everybody else just wrote off as ultimately being their assigned gender at birth anyway no matter how much they protested. it doesn't help that 'nonbinary' is a catchall term for literally thousands if not millions of very distinct experiences and desires.

transitioning gave me control over how i was perceived, finally, but hormones are a throttle that only go in one very specific direction, and you don't really have all that much control over which changes kick in at which times and what people will make of you once you do start registering to them as some identity other than what you were first saddled with. it's an incredible gift to be able to toggle that throttle. but it's limited, not because medical transition isn't incredible and needed for so many, but because there is no escaping the goddamned binary cissexist logic that influences everything about how people treat you, how you navigate institutions, who finds you desirable and what they want out of you, and so much else.

if you're able to cast a lot of the external societal bullshit aside and feel strong in your maleness, maybe you're stronger than me or maybe our orientation to these things is just different, i don't know. i was never all that sensitive to feedback that i was doing the whole being-a-woman-thing all that wrong. i reveled in violating those rules to an extent. succeeding at being a woman despite my best attempts was what felt super dysphoric. and now i guess im succeeding at being a man, insofar as im always read as one, and it feels just as uncomfortable and objectifying and false. i thought that with manhood i could probably just grit my teeth and deal with it, but i'm finding that i can't.

ive always been very open that for me, gender is a thing I Do, and i guess to those who know me well it wouldnt be surprising to hear that i have gotten tired of Doing Being a Man and dont feel like playing that particular gendered game anymore. I tend to get bored of things! and find the flaws in things. and find my comfort in being fault-finding and contrarian and not being a joiner. and thats okay. i learned a lot along the way. not having to try any more is a huge relief. i can just do whatever. and know actively that people will more often than not be wrong in what they make of me.

maybe it was natural feeling for you to decidely 'know' your maleness without a care for masculine standards because that is the right identity for you! and maybe i only feel secure in the "not knowing" realm and in letting go of what people think of me or finding any kind of tidy categorization for it because that's the right spot for me. for now. until i find a new interesting way to be unhappy and striving for more and different again. :) that's just part of being alive, for me.

basically i overanalyze how each main character from soul eater would manifest a hatsu in the hxh universe.

off the bat i'd argue that the meisters have their own affinities and the weapons themselves are the conjurors. and this is only because shapeshifting in hxh is exclusively a conjuror ability

why? i dont fucking know. but togashi said so.

in spirit of the theme of the video, i'll start with blackstar.

blackstar i like the idea of copying weapons though. tsubaki's multi-weapon form leans towards that idea but i would argue that he has a lot more in his kit that ISN'T weaponry.

the first does rely on tsubaki's help (in the show) but its an expression of his soul through her. therefore im counting them as parts of his kit.

blackstar big wave aka soul menace aka World Destruction Cannon is his bare bones attack and i think this falls comfortably within an enhancer's affinity MAYBE dual affinity into transmuter. but being an enhancer with conditions can lead to some very interesting points that speak to his character.

one of his conditions will definitely be "i can't lose" because he does truly believe that. and even in soul eater we see that this takes a significant toll on him. in this case i'll use the anime for reference since i don't remember a lot of details from the manga.

but essentially he attaches either power output or the power itself to consistent victory. and when he loses, he loses *everything*

Blackstar - Enhancer type. User pushes specific aspects of his body and mind beyond the human imagination. With every victory this limit is pushed further and further. But, with a single loss, he is unable to use any nen at all until defeating the person he lost to.

Speed Star: Enhances user's legs. simple enough. grants super speed and blitz attacks.

Big Wave: Enhances user's aura into the palms with a touch of transmutation to create a small instantaneous spark that outputs aura to voltage.

so shapeshifting in nen is pretty unexplained since it only happens in the manga. but it seems to be a pretty universal thing that conjurers can just kinda.... do.

in tsubaki's case i think she would create a single hatsu that adapts to whoever weilds her. she has a very agreeable personality so i imagine that she would add a condition that allows the user's will to bend her own. that being said, since she is doing the conjuring, it will likely need to be a weapon she's seen before and/or had experience with. and since she's so capable it's safe to say she's experienced with a large number of weapons.

a few other conditions i can think of with an adapting ability is that she will always customize herself per person but with the restriction that IF she is wielded by a different person, the original weilder's weapons will no longer be stored in her "memory." Essentially like wiping a game save per player.

that and the universal weapon condition of being forced to be immobile while in their weapon form.

i think her arsenal of forms would vary based on whoever uses her and based on the number of fights they have fought as a pair would determine the number of forms she's allowed to take. or something more specific like kill quests in an roguelite.

so each user has to "level up" on defeating a certain number of enemies or certain type of enemies. with quotas going up and up to scale with their growing compatibility.

Blackstar would have had to defeat a number of powerful enemies, including Masamune, to get to the point of the uncanny sword. and of course, each form has its perks based on communication with the weilder's aura. (also more on masamune. she probably added that as a long term mission that blackstar wanted to clear to obtain a new weapon slot)

also also. since it is her entire body literally being transformed into something else, i will allow her to still use basic nen techniques like ten, ren and zetsu while in her other forms.

Kusarigama - Chain can stretch as long as the user can see both ends of the scythe. If user loses sight of either scythe, the weapon will cut in half and become twice as short as standard.

Kemuridama - "smoke bomb" i deadass dont know what to do about this other than give two thumbs up and back away

Transformation - Allows her to take the form of her weilder but also forces wielder into perfect zetsu instantaneously.

Ninjato - "Ninja sword" increases the rate of aura output and speed of technique swapping. Essentially equips the user with nen techniques they might not know automatically.

Uncanny Sword - Taps into manipulation/specialization techniques and literally bends the shadows of her and her user. stolen from the original Uncanny Sword.

so i know she has some shit going on in the manga that i deadass forgot so i'll sum it up as best as i can.

so these are all super rare things in the soul eater universe so i think it's only fair to give her a specialist type, leaning manipulation.

because most of her specialized kit is specific to the "ultimate force of good" in the soul eater universe it's really hard to put it into nen terms. the only way she can remain an antithesis of evil type of character is if she is an engineered counter to the forces of the dark continent. but im not gonna do that bcs it feels way too cheap for maka as a character.

maka is a very well written main character because she is shown as very self aware that she is flawed and works harder than anyone else to overcome those flaws. she is incredibly driven even to the point of madness. that being said, i can't see her putting too many conditions on herself.

one of them i can definitely see is something to do with "doing no evil" to keep with the idea of purity that a lot of her abilities would rely on. (the anti magic wavelength specifically)

i feel like she also would develop her hatsu after meeting soul, since she learned a lot about herself and her peers at his side. so it's likely she'd also attach a condition to him since that would lock her in for life- if she wants a pseudo-soul-binding nen vow

The grigory soul is the easiest for me. it essentially allows her to fly after reaching a certain skill ceiling (in soul eater it was literally reaching the top of the verse for a meister type). so for this i can see her employing conjuration techniques to summon wings in any part of her body or extended body. easy enough.

soul perception is a specialist technique since it would essentially function as reading minds or something along those lines. it would actually probably be something similar to Dogman's hatsu where she can detect a person's natural affinity just by looking at them. though, apparently that falls under enhancement and enhancement is wayyyy far away from specialization. that being said if we believe morena that ALL specialists have access to all 6 affinities at 100% efficiency then that doesn't matter

the hardest one is the anti-magic wavelength, since that isn't really a concept in hxh. in soul eater this class was identified as the "holy" wavelength and the only thing capable of instantly purging evil spirits. in hunter x hunter the only true 'evil' beings are dark continent calamities.

or if it can be based on maka's own personal judgement: anyone she judges as irredeemable is able to be instantly killed. similar to haulkenburg's arrow with much looser conditions but also probably staked on her own life.

there are stages to the techniques. Witch hunter to Genie hunter to Kishin hunter. so probably a checklist of requirements an enemy can check off for each technique to be used.

1. has to have killed someone, 2. has to want to kill her, 3. refuses mercy three times. and of course the umbrella condition that she wants to kill this person. and of course she has to land the hit.

Grigori Executioner - Specialist hybrid ability that feeds on the negative qualities of her opponents.

Blessed Vessel - when engaging an opponent she can enchant a weapon of her choice that she cannot put down until her opponent is defeated or killed.

Devil Hunter - A one hit kill guarantee as long as her opponent meets one or more of her preconceived requirements and her judgement never wavers.

Soul Perception - Activates at will. Only able to be used on nen users and reveals their affinity/most commonly used preferred affinity and another hint to reveal that person's hatsu. idk how its represented yet but probably forced projection of the enemy's aura somehow.

and now for maka's partner. Soul

yeah thats his name. and hes cool as FUCK. soul doesn't really have much going for him other than his swag and his piano playing skills that sets him apart from the others. and his incredible charisma but i think thats less skill more personality.

obviously he's a conjurer for the transformy weapon aspect. but he does have a little more agency than other weapons

the first two are attached to cooperation perks. partial transformation is a technique based skill. and soul hack i didnt even know existed but that is sick as fuck.

so one of soul's defining feats is being able to resonate with three or more weapon meister pairs simultaneously, essentially linking their minds so they can fight together in close proximity. i can see something like that being a trigger type nen ability.

partial transformation i think would be raw technique. Shapeshifting in nen likely starts small with parts of the body and then evolves into transforming the whole body.

soul hack is crazy bcs i forgot about this arc in the manga. but basically after becoming a death scythe he's able to repossess magical objects and use them as his own. which is fucking crazy but this works with nen amazingly well.

for this to work he'd have to have capital in manipulation. which is going to be difficult because soul doesn't really seek out the new, just playing to his strengths and keeping good on his word. so personality-wise i dont think this is a likely hatsu he'd make, but given enough pushing from maka or a demand for him to become stronger, he'd definitely experiment with tapping into other affinities.

it can also manifest as something like Emperor Time with a condition of him having to be in his full weapon form, and be wielded by someone with an aura quantity equal to or greater than his own, to access specialization. And it would be combat exclusive since I don't really see him using this ability casually.

black blood is a hostile force that is kind of forced on soul early in the series so i don't think this would fall in his abilities but would eventually be incorporated into his set based on who cursed him.

soul is pretty straightforward. collaborative type conjurer ability that boosts aura output of his wielder and allies.

Death Scythe - Conjuration type. Soul transforms his body into a customized scythe weapon and based on who wields him, is able to double the aura output of both parties or more if the wielder is fighting with allies.

Soul Piano - an imaginary object that can manifest on his blade in the form of a keyboard. Imbues chosen allies and main wielder with extra-sensory awareness and heightened aura output but only for as long as the song he chooses to play.

Soul Hack - a manipulation type only accessible while Death Scythe is already active. if and only if against a manipulation type ability, can seize control of the manipulated object by the same means as Soul Piano. (ie. imbues his aura into the manipulated object or body and seizes control with his heightened aura output.

right off the bat. this man has GOT to have a condition tied to symmetry. it might not even be a conscious condition, just one he puts on himself and his lifestyle that greatly hinders his ability to fight. in hxh you can weaponize a disability, especially if you're successful in managing that disability.

in kid's case this is handled in soul eater and in this spinoff by his capacity to obsess over details and his skill to execute on his desires. his obsession with symmetry can be expressed in his clothing choice, weapon choice and interior design, all of which he is proficient at because he's a rich brat who was homeschooled until the main plot.

so attaching this "i and my living space will always remain symmetrical" condition to his abilities could lead to great capacity for power. which he might not even need.

kid was always meant to be op from the jump as the son of the grim reaper. so in hxh terms this means he was born a nen prodigy on par with probably tserreidnich or a royal guard.

the gun parts of his kit will be attached to liz and patty so we'll ignore them for now.

so looking at everything else. i think he's very safely an emitter. mmmmmaybe transmutor but i'm going to go with emitter. no it's not just because he uses long range weapons.

looking at beelzebub. it appears like conjuration. the skateboard is just a glorified magic hoverboard that he can dismiss and summon at any point. but since this is a fancy extension of the jets that both kid and Death use i argue it's emission with extra steps. It could be teleporting a skateboard to him or just. the jets.

onto the actual reaper powers. we don't really see much from Death or Kid without it being total annihilation against another god-like entity. with Death we see it manifesting in shields or seals. but there is also the Death Room which is defined as a sort of pocket dimension.

both fall under emission or transmutation, but for the sake of consistency i'll leave it under emission (see knov hxh).

madness of order also falls into death's kit and i think this is either a powerful en technique or another emission/pseudo-manipulation technique. it depends on other participants (technically)

tangent. but death himself could also have tied these 'reaper powers' to a very dark but on-brand condition where he has to "collect souls" every quarter and guide them to the afterlife. essentially he has to be solely responsible for a certain number of people dying every three months to maintain his level of power.

back to kid. i think he will rely heavily on his weapons as a bonus condition. a reaper is only so powerful without his weapon and so he probably sought out a weapon(s) to suit his symmetry condition. with them he unlocks his GUN (tm) abilities.

there's also that thing with mirrors but im like 90% sure that has to do with tezca tlipoca and not death. idk tho i gotta do more research lol.

God of Order - Emission type ability. Grants the user two types of abilities, one to access a pocket dimension labelled as a godly domain, and two to have the ability to fly or access advanced mobility.

Beelzebub - user emits bright concentrated jets of fire to propel, stop or maneuver in the air.

Realm of River Sanzu - A generational ability that grants the user the ability to open a pocket dimension decorated in the deaths caused by all previous generations combined.

Obedience - A raw emission of aura that affects anyone it touches. Manifests as a skull-shaped En sphere and causes anyone within it that isn't properly defended to obey his commands as long as his conviction never wavers.

Death Powers - Similar to above, raw emission attack that user uses to attack his enemies.

that being said they don't have many feats on their own like the rest of the characters. they do have one hell of a reputation though.

because of abandonment issues i can see them both sharing a vow to never leave each others' side. which conveniently works with kid's obsession with having a pair of weapons instead of just one.

i think they'll probably be the closest to soul eater canon out of anyone. both are conjurers, obviously, they are able to shapeshift into identical pistols but have no ammo. Instead they rely on someone else to hold them and in exchange they are able to leech aura off of the user and translate it into aura bullets. because of that triple stack of conditions the bullets hit with the force of the user's aura PLUS three times the firing power.

of course this applies even if the user isn't a natural emitter. though the effect is decreased if they aren't used to their aura being used like that.

when they just had each other they could use this hatsu one at a time. so it works there too.

when it comes to death the kid they likely adapted their forms to fit his extraordinarily powerful aura output. with pistols only having so much surface area based on the barrel size, they probably mutually agreed to add a second layer to their pre-existing hatsu in the form of Death Cannon.

Twin Devil Pistols - Conjurer type. A partner based ability where the user and her sister are able to transform into handguns that leech off of the wielders aura to form bullets that automatically fill the pistol magazine until the user runs out of aura

Death Cannon - Modification after meeting DTK. sketched in secret and able to consume and shoot aura at 200% efficiency. Can be used by other people but the aura cost will likely kill them.

ragnorok is definitely a nen curse that afflicts crona. i think they eventually overcome or even manifest a hatsu to enhance it. ragnorok enhances their flesh so their blood vessels can be weapons themselves and grants them a whole list of abilities. but in exchange ragnorok drives crona to the brink of insanity.

the screech stuff can be crona manifesting a cooperative hatsu while under medusa's influence

while i'm here i'll just say that medusa would have to be a conjurer and she can summon curse snakes. they offer benefits and restrictions with both scaling the larger and more powerful the snake is. ragnorok is a dragon (shh its technically a snake). simple enough-

but in this one crona would have full control over their blood as a weapon. i think they'd be a zakuro type manipulator where they control their own blood and because ragnorok is in their blood he is physically manipulated too. the sword form is raw shape manipulation and probably results in something like that scissor seven sword where its shape can adapt mid-combat. and the screech stuff taps into emission which isn't too much to ask and could even be explained as a wave of blood droplets concentrated with aura. this would also cover their four armed form but thas just a lil tidbit and i like it very much uwu

as for the madness thorns that's a final form crona (where they've essentially lost their mind) where they use their blood to infect people with madness directly instead of remotely. again, manipulation, and frees people of fear and fills them with the same need crona feels to destroy the world.

Ragnorok of Black Blood - manipulation type paired with a pre-established nen curse. allows user to manipulate their blood infused with a nen curse to use as weapons or as a viral transmission of the curse.

Screech - using blades made of blood, user can unleash sonic waves to disrupt the enemy or even enhance the sawing power of their own blades

Madness Thorns- raw manifestation of the curse and spreads by contact with the user's blood.

and imma just speedrun the rest of spartoi

ox and harvard. ox is a transmutor and harvard is a conjuror. ox transmutes electricity with the condition that it must be through a metal medium. harvard is a gold spear that must be able to be lifted by the user first to be wielded (as in he's pure gold, meaning he's heavy as a mf)

kim and jackie. kim is an emitter and jackie is a conjuror. kim taps into enhancement and manipulation to control healing and flames. uses emission to perform both long range. jackie is a lantern weapon. she is able to breathe flames at the pull of a chain and with kim's fire control, they make a good team.

kilik and the twins. kilik is my favorite im biased leave me alone. kilik is an enhancer the twins are dual affinity, conjuror/transmutor. kilik is a well rounded fighter so i think its only fair to give him enhancer. plus he canonically beats the brakes off of fuckin golems and zombies. sometimes bare-knuckle. he also enhances the aura of anyone he holds the hand of bcs i think thats sweet of him. the twins of course are gauntlets but each has an affinity for lightning or fire, which is where the transmutation comes in. so for my sanity i'll say that the elemental attacks come from the twins and not from kilik. he just enhances their attacks to devastating degree.

yes there are more characters in soul eater but this took 3 days to write to completion and my brain is tired but damn does it make me happy.

lol sorry for ignoring this i fr couldn't figure out how I wanted to word this and it requires some context for my world building which idk if anyone cares abt but whatever I'm gonna pop off

summary of the magic system is that there r 3 types of magic, innate, holder and patron, they r all v self explanitory

script magic is innate, it is also the overall category for any magic that deals with the actually written symbols of magic (curse and rune magic r both branches of script magic basically)

And for context in my rewrite I have it so fairies r the ones who gift humans with magic to begin with and eventually people started being born with like pointy ears and higher affinity for magic and thats how the pixie race was made

its a pretty common form of magic

ok onto levy specific

my idea for levy is that shes half pixie half hybrid (basically this world's version of furry there's lore for it but that's all u need to know for now)

ANYWAY

All this to say that levy is a very skilled wizard with a love for books and reading and by the time canon starts she's basically the best script mage around, mainly bc she experiments with offensive script magic where as before the magic type was usually reliant on someone else with a more offensive type

This is because script mages need to actually write out the runes and symbols with some kind of Wand, which takes a sec to set up and even then its hard to hurt someone with a word if they have time to move, this also differentiates it from curse magic, which is entirely oral and is overall less refined (most of the time but ill talk abt that if I talk abt freed lol)

Like it's much easier to use a curse than to do script bc script is containing a spell within the lettering rather than like, attacking the person's magic core kinda???

Idk how to explain it but it makes sense in my brain

So buffs and support r the most common for script mages but levy is my Mary sue and I love her

So basically because she's mastered so many languages she's basically invented her own form of magic language for her spells, not unheard of in this world since it's also like a form of short hand that can usually tell u who wrote those runes

However this is usually only based on one or two languages since mixing different styles of like, characters? Can take more time and cause the spell to take even longer to cast

I'm explaining this terribly and making it seem so complicated

But its literally just levy teaches herself her own little language to writer her spells in that's basically magical cursive so it prioritizes speed above all else, that means it's sometimes kind of destructive and not as precise but she's working on it

Eventually tho, when they find tenrou island and have a huge lore dump abt Mavis (who is a fairy), levy is able to get her hands on fae language and magic runes and begins incorporating them into her spells and it's the final things she was looking for to make her spells more stable

The pen was something her and droy collab on basically, due to how unstable script magic can be she needed something able to handle the full brunt of her magic to essentially be her arcane focus

The pen is made from a tree droy grew himself, slowly feeding it magic, somehow dont ask me idk, so it could eventually handle levys power

The idea was from an offahnded comment levy made in an attempt to show droy the potential of his magic since in my lil hc he feels like the least useful member of the 3 (which is dumb and he isnt) and levy hit him and was like no u dumbass magic plants r dope and rattles off weird theories on how it could be used in different ways

She still is anxious, but man, she does take so many good actions when needed. The one I can think right away was when she decided to bring Rui to Kaito in "It's on Wonderhalloween". She also wants to learn more and more to become a diva right? And she has a lot of knowledge and ABT videogames I suposse. I do she her as someone who wants to know more to surpass her weaknesses. And idk- maybe knowledge would call for her.

That strong feeling of "Things aren't really good rn, but I want to bring a smile and happiness to the people I love the most" is something the devil would like. Theres so many emotions, Tsukasa created a whole SEKAI because his feelings. And he's so caring too. THOSE FEELINGS ARE SO STRONG. Rui wants to experience every millisecond with his friends, and he's the one who seems most afraid of WXS disbandment (not saying that the others are okay with that, Nene says that they will stick together no matter what, emu, yk emu, our happy ending yk- and Tsukasa cherish and appreciates his troupe sm, he also wants to realise his dream alongside them), anyways, but Rui. AAA Rui... He doesn't think about that 24/7, but that "If we disband" seems to torment him imo.

For me, the thing he values the most, It's the time he spends with people and doing things he loves. Maybe that's not what death wants, because it wants you to be absorbed by the spirals. But meh, I like Death Rui.

Hiii its me again. I had an idea idk if youd like it. I always wondered about what if subconciously (since i dont think its stated if tatsuya is teligoous or nah) started to pray to Apollo even from a young age. Bc he felt like hes familiar with him for some reason. Or another idea is a younger Tatsuya being in danger and hes so scared bc his lofe is in danger ma dhes alone and just on pure instinct he would scream for Apollo. I think it would be cool

So, yeah, this one was a challenge. But! It was a fun delve back into persona 2. I’ve been pulling more towards Trigun these past few weeks, but I still very much love persona, and it was fun to get a chance to delve into an idea I love for Tatsuya here, even if I did it a bit weirdly. I hope you enjoy it too!

Also, I will say, while this is, yes, overt worship, I don’t think Tatsuya ever consciously worshipped Apollo. I feel like it’d be less reverent, and more like some subconscious need to show him respect and acknowledge him thanks to Vulcanus. If you asked him, he’d say he didn’t worship any god specifically.

When Katsuya Suou thought back, he realized that he couldn’t quite tell when gods had first become such a heavy subject in his life. Logically, he figured it would’ve been a few days ago. His first run-in with something akin to the deific was most likely back in seven sister’s high school when a circlet of fire had combust on his head and given him a cat-like creature named Helios. Yet, as he thought back on his life amongst the flames, he realized that gods had been in his life since he was around fifteen.

It had begun after Tatsuya had come home from the burn ward, when Katsuya was fifteen and Tatsuya was eight. When his little brother came home from the hospital and began to develop some new habits.

First, he cleaned the featherman figures and toys off of a shelf in his room to be replaced with drawings of the sun and some odd creature in red and white stripes that Katsuya, at the time, had assumed was some featherman character. Then, tatsuya began singing little songs about the sun or Apollo on cloudless days, or during summer. And, finally, he’d gained an interest in growing sunflowers in their front yard. “They look like suns, and Apollo likes the color yellow.” the little nine-year-old brunette had told Katsuya when he asked about them, and while it had been odd to see the scarred, stoic child so attached to a greek god’s opinion, Katsuya had simply nodded and made sure those flowers grew. After all, if it helped his brother recover from the fire at the shrine, who was Katsuya to ruin it?

Yet, now, as Katsuya sat dumbly on his ass on the boiling hot floor of the mystical arena with Maya, Baofu, and Ulala while flames danced and flickered around them...he realized the weight of those newer habits.

While Tatsuya stood in front of the group, his sword held up against Nyarlethotep’s attack, his usually-neat, short hair seemingly made of the golden-yellow flames that turned the dungeon into an oven around them, Katsuya could do nothing but think back to those sunflowers and drawings.

Apollo.

Tatsuya’s persona was named Apollo, he’d been granted the ability to see into the future, he had an affinity for flames hotter than those that Katsuya could make. Flames as hot as the sun. His sword glowed red in the swaying heat of the room, each strike of his blade against the shifting darkness that he fought were cauterized in an instant, each ferocious slash able to drive the darkness back while the four of them sat dumbfounded at the sight of Tatsuya’s skin glowing with light, his hair alive and in flames. As if Apollo had come down to possess his loyal follower to win the fight for him.

Or, perhaps, while Katsuya had his back turned, his baby brother had become Apollo himself.

Just had a thought so I am sending this to you before I collapse (Also hi I stayed up all night but I did not expect you to be awake now lmao. Maybe our timezones are more far off than I thought.)

Kind of love the idea that magic is considered defensive by nature because traditional weaponry is preferred throughout the kingdom. But then you have Sabo spinning that on its head constantly because he’s always running around inciting conflict like “I Crave Violence” which makes Ace's job exasperatingly harder but he takes it in stride because he also loves that side of Sabo.

And then I thought about it, and it would really make a lot of sense if Sabo wasn't a bystander most of the time 🤔 Of course when he wants to see Ace in action then he'll hold back but I am thinking specifically about someone commenting why Sabo is bothering to attack if Ace is there and Sabo responds with something along the lines of “Ace is here to protect me, but if I’m not in any danger, there's no need for him to step in.” So maybe they both flip stereotypes on the head and when Sabo is feeling antsy, feeling the need to expend some of his mana, he relegates Ace to a defensive role. Has him act only as Sabo's shield while Sabo takes on their assailant himself, using the chance to test out the new spell he's been developing. (Needless to say, would-be assassins of the crown prince end up on the wrong side of highly experimental magic more often than not.)

I agreeeee i think magic in this world serving a supportive and defensive role more than for attacking/protective through action(violence) is really fun and gives reason for the whole physical aspect of having a royal/kingsguard with traditional physical weapons as a whole

PLUS gotta pat yourself and myself on the back for slowly tuning the world building especially you for that brilliant write up about the aspects of mana, magicks spellwork and casting and how mages need/have specific affinity pools and if they dont they dont have much hope for casting magicks outside of those affinities because of the nature of mana and magic itself it makes sense that no one really looked into wielding it for damage purposes its too valuable in a sense

Maybe specifically to add more layers haha … :3c attacking magic is very unstable, volatile and siphons way too much mana from the caster to be a viable and safe method of warfare/combat?

The kind of control needed to do so? Possibly only sorcerers could manage it which Sabo would because aforementioned “craving violence” which is exceptionally endearing but exasperating for Ace but he L o v e s sabo and would follow him to the end of all ends should he have to

God i loveeee how confident and unified? Equal their relationship is as a knight to prince, Sabo is plainly aware of Ace’s role, he wanted him after all and Ace knows full well when to step in to protect his prince

GhHgauasyRHRGRGHGGGGGGHH. ace being his shield, mana charging to cast experimental attack magicks takes some time i think RPGS having mages lock down immobile just to charge some disgustingly powerful AOE magic nuke is really cool and fun and they would be so vulnerable during that period of “charge time” so Ace delegating to shielding Sabo 🥰🥰🥰 looove that so so much

Theyre always flipping the status quo or whatever is socially expected of them on its head, theyre inversing stereotypes and its all for fun at Sabos whimsy really

If Sabo wasnt so bloodthirsty (not always just sometimes when the mana sickness hits) he couldve dispatched them in a far cleaner method (the olde cleave their heads from their shoulders style)

i think there are a lot of ways to go about this esp with deciding to take a more kr or sentai route. i think the group aspect of paradox live is so important that it would make sense to take a more ranger team formation, and with like them all sharing like such a specific way of fighting that is unified but allows for a lot of flair still. and there would still be a way for those suits to still have such an extreme amount of swag while being ranger like and all. its also a lot easier for me to picture that many people in sentai uniforms than having to manifest so many rider suits and shit. extremely daunting of a thing, and well i do just think it fits better. trust me on this<3 however originally i was thinking that it would be more interesting for them to be more like metal/rider-esque suits for like trap reactions and the corrosion but i think actually if their suits are like the gobuster's it would be awesome.

Like this being reflective of the corrosion worsening is awesome, and it would still like be something that exists physically on them. can see a really dramatic moment of bae transforming after hajun has been hiding it so well and after he's suited up he just starts like sparking out of control and his suit gets fucked before they even start the battle. Also i think allen would just look sick as FUCK with a broken helmet. everyone always does but i want my best friend allen to have a crazy moment like that.

they would be using like music as their main weapon and the illusions which i fear does put it in some hypmic territory but they obvi will have the craziest swag with it, and i dont think i would be full songs all the time. maybe its like flinging their illusions at enemies, creating weapons and one of them raps to make its power greater, to shield them, etcetc. im not fully sure how that would work. they transform by holding onto their phantometal really tight and then they get swallowed up by their own illusion or something. i think their phantometal would kinda just like manifest outside of them after they overcome the initial trap reaction/corrosion and they have a special affinity for it. it doesnt mean that they are like immune, they are just a bit stronger to it and have better control than a normal person would. dont worry about it too much lolol.

def Really big arc where an enemy makes it so allen loses his voice and he runs away like he can't be useful and is just a liability to the others because he can only do like normal guy kicks and stuff since he cant interaction properly with their illusions and he cant create his own bc his emotions are so out of wack nothing holds and they have to keep protecting him and he just gets his ass beat. power of love brings his voice back. of course it does. he can still write them lyrics he can still plan and they follow his lead so well. he's not a born leader but he's their special guy and they believe in him even when he doesnt believe in himself. yknow the drill.

i think in overall plot, it would be a little like how haruto is saving people from despair by like literally jumping into their minds to save them in wizard, but it would be saving people who are victims of the phantometal and also like ryusoulger with the negative emotions are creating the monsters. the monsters are created from the illusions and once they feed off the person enough the person starts having a like full trap reaction to fully take their life away. like they are having more mild versions of it, thats kinda just written off as more of a nightmare but that misery and corrosion stick with them and the monster is just like yummy! usually bae can stop it before it gets too fucking bad but sometimes they DO have to go inside a person to save them.

They are still like bae. they still are a music group (i dont think the phantometal would be used for performances in this universe. they are all just doing normal hiphop) they still slay but they also have to. fucking save people. they have to save all the others in paralive at some point. First being anne. i think it starts with hajun and allen being the only two really involved and they dont tell anne bc they both know they will be like Fuck idc if i cant transform im helping in some way but then anne falls victim and they are the first person they have to actually go inside to save and when anne comes out of that they are suddenly able to transform too. maybe that happens with all the performers but they dont work with bae as like a unified team or anything usually. they have their own shit to handle, but ofc they will lend a hand when necessary. iori is fully aware of all this shit even before bae gets started doing their thing. ofc he is. obviously. as is expected of him.

its such a strange place for them to be because it IS the phantometal that is being used to hurt all these people, but they use it to transform and to fight still. they have to! (very deep into this plot when 1nm8 come in they are portrayed as so antagonistic bc they come in so hot trying to take away the thing that is allowing them to save people and its soo frustrating)

also obviously they will. be effected by trap reactions and the corrosion, which i mentioned the latter in reference to suit degradation and stuff but i think if they are transformed for too long or use too many/too strong of illusions they get sent immediately into one even if they are still suited up, and it would like be on a scale of they are having a panic attack or they are uncontrollably lashing out. everyone would know bc it would kinda be like this

and then they would just be kinda like. yknow got that evil glow or whatever. i dont think much would really have to change about what everyone is seeing when they have their trap reactions, but i do think to some extent that when they are like losing control and attacking people they are like aware but they cant do anything about it. allen lashing out and going after anne and hajun and hes screaming for it to stop but he cant make his body stop and then his vision starts to get kinda engulfed by flames type of shit.

i guess that stupid ugly ass guy with the tongue from the anime is like whos behind it. i hate him so fucking much i dont even want to think about it but he's kinda the perfect guy to just be inserted into this without much changed. he's still got chisei's metal. he's still got those illusions of buraikan. who would also be like. transformed in more monstrous of a way and be there antagonizing them and the "heads" of what they are going against. Absolutely fucking devastating when they detransform later on and its just them, legendary buraikan, who allen and everyone loves and it rocks their world and makes everything so much worse. its so demoralizing because fuck how are they supposed to create hiphop better than them in battle? they are always getting their asses kicked when those two show up and now they understand WHY they are never able to stand a chance. beautiful greying at 36 haruomi is doing shit on the down low. he can transform more in the fashion of bae. bc well. he's really him. Lol.

Anyways. these are my first thoughts about it...smiling! i think i'll end up revisiting this and adding more (: kicking my feet and giggling having sooo much fun thank you thank you!!!

also allen is obviously their red, anne is pink, hajun can be blue. or yellow. whos to say. They are obviously all so in love and so awesome transgender. bae throuple forever and ever baby!!! and of course, buraikan is having crazy gay sex, as they would in every universe always. Heart emoji.
