Hey, you! Yes: you! Random person on the internet! I need to talk to you about something.
Nearly everything on social media (yes, that thing too) (yup, so is that) (yes, especially me) is marketing. That’s a morally neutral statement. It’s not “good” or “bad” or even “morally grey”. It is the way we have organized the internet, especially platforms on the internet.
If people are fighting for attention, eyeballs, interest
you’re going to get marketing. In this truth, people have different goals: entertainment, education, money, etc. That’s all still morally neutral.
Where it gets morally bad is when you buy into the marketing without any research. Where it gets even worse is when people tell you if you fact check the information you see on social media, *you* are morally bad. Why don’t you just buy into the marketing? Why don’t you just accept the buzzwords? And a lot of it seems to be an updated redux of “tolerate my intolerance!” (Which evolved to, “Hey, I’m just asking questions” then to “What if it’s really true? What if [blank innocuous thing] is the root of all evil?” And now it’s, “We have to do something!!! There’s no time to fact check!!! If this is really happening, there’s no time!!!”) Which I should not have to explain
 is bad.
Let me explain anyway though: the increase in urgency and making it time sensitive is meant to send you into a panic. That fear/anger/anxiety response tells you you need to do something, right now! But it’s so difficult to know what
don’t worry, don’t freeze, don’t think, they have the answer! Do this right now! You have to! There’s only a few seconds left! You NEED TO DO THIS YOU—oh you’ve done it. Phew, crisis averted! You’re our hero! Now make sure to tell all your friends or nothing you did matters and you will be d—ned for all eternit—thanks for sharing! We need more people like you!
The difference between this and something actually time sensitive is something that is legitimate will 1) often not work you into a panic, because they’re just trying to make you more informed/legitimately interested, 2) they will give you actionable steps and 3) the tone is completely different. Here’s another example:
Hey, everyone. I’m sorry to say this but [politician] has betrayed our [community]. We met with [politician] and they promised us they would fight for our [very specific purpose, usually with its own specialized vocabulary]. Today they voted against that. But we’re not giving up! Please, pressure [government body] to change their minds about [issue] and vote again in our favor! This would [specific impact]. We are also working on this [alternative solution]. Please donate here! We’ll keep you all updated and together, we will will achieve [favorable result]. We won’t back down! Thank for your support!
Even if the legitimate advocacy is angry, devastated, resigned, or scared, you will still see the elements of specific information and solutions pertaining to a specific situation, especially using jargon pertaining to the specific situation, urging you to learn more or ally with them without 1) centering yourself, 2) accidentally spreading bad information, or 3) accidentally harming other communities in solidarity with theirs. Learning more and supporting movements is supposed to be an *ongoing process* not a “winner-takes-all” sporting tournament, with you as the star and hero.
If people are telling you not to get a second opinion about something that isn’t easily verifiable (especially if there are no primary sources to consult), that’s morally bad marketing.
You may be wondering why I’m framing this as “morally bad marketing” instead of “propaganda” (which is literally correct). That’s *also* marketing. I’ve found that propaganda is a loaded word in most contexts, and if you tell someone they’ve fallen for it, they’ll get defensive. However, if I frame it as a scam and focus my attention on the people manufacturing the scam (whether that’s outrage, bigotry, etc) sometimes it jolts people into realizing how flimsy the premise actually is. Which is very!
If people aren’t using their own activism and infrastructure to gain acceptance and solidarity. If people are using other movements’ platforms to get attention to their own (like stealing hashtags), especially if they use *different phrases and jargon* to gain acceptance in different communities, and keep coming up with new rhetoric every time their ideas don’t penetrate the demographic they’re targeting—these are all red flags of a size that could blanket Texas. Discarding one marketing strategy for another takes time, especially with decentralized communications. If multiple strategies are being employed at once on a large scale: I highly doubt that’s decentralized at all. If it looks like a sales funnel, talks like a sales funnel, etc

Further, if you see a sudden proliferation of accounts that don’t seem organic, or someone is selling One Weird Little Trick to complete your life, cure your ails, bring about World Peace! [Blank] hates it!
You need to flee. I need you to understand my *very* clearly on this—you need to *flee* immediately. The *best case* scenario is you are being tricked out of currency.
No one doing this is *ever* selling solutions. They are feeding you fear and self-loathing, then selling you the feeling of control. “You can do it! You can change the world! We can do it! We can do it together!” But never, ever once telling you what “it” is. At least not at first. It’s always a lifestyle, a thing, a movement. “Sure the world has gone to pieces [true] but you’re better than the last people who messed up [source?] you can fix it! Just let us tell you how [no, this is a cult, RUN]”
And, again, this can apply to anything, including: companies selling you ‘lifestyles’, companies selling you that one super niche product that will fix your life forever, up to and including literal propaganda campaigns.
The thing is: it’s not about you. It’s about what they can take from you, while you smile happily, feeling privileged (so, so proud) they took it. They let you market for them while they took your money, time, humanity, etc! And it’s all because you’re so wonderful! And brave! And subversive! And whatever else you want to see yourself as!

Ooooo. Alola disliking Mega evolutions but Haru and Guzma being okay with Dyna-/Gigantamaxing is so fun take
My understanding of pokemon lore and gimmick mechanisms are vague at the best, but honestly... If we remove the increase of size, what is the difference between mega evolutions and gigantamaxing?
Is Alolans issues with megas based on how it "forces" a physical change and therefore potentially painful for the pokemon? Gigantamaxing does the exact same thing or even "worse" changes (in my personal opinion: mega vs dynamax gengar)
Is their issue about mega evolution making the pokemon more violent? Dynamax raids and a huge part of the Galar story line proofs that dynamaxing does the exact same thing. One could even say it is even more dangerous since it can not be predicted/controlled without modern science.
Is it because Megas are based on "mystery energy"? Again... Dynamaxing...
So either there is history between Galos and Alola that has lead to huge bias or Alolans just like Galar's culture more due the similarities it shares with their own (the Galar Legue being quite similar to Alola's Island Challenge but with a big stadium fight at the end)
As said... I probably forgetting some lore that explains this all (outside the multiverse and Alola being older region than Galar, ergo could not comment about Dynamaxing in their pokedex) but I am really interested to see how the boys will justify their stand on dyna-/gigantamaxing IF you decide to take the story there.
I postponed answering this ask to THIS WEEK since my reply would've been quite spoilery for todays update
PERSONALLY I like to think that Guzma and Hau *ahem, excuse my strong language* are talking out of their asses and don't actually know much about Dynamaxing/Gigantamaxing and especially not the problems Galar is facing due to the unstable energies causing Pokemon to randomly turn gigantic in the wild.
If they were more informed about it, I think they'd be far more critical of it, since you are correct: Dynamaxing causes FAR more damage and is an active threat in the region, unlike mega evolution, which is a state that doesn't randomly happen and CAN be controlled.
But Hau and Guzma literally only know Dynamaxing from watching the League matches on TV - and with Galar hosting one of the biggest and most reputable Leagues in the world, how could there POSSIBLY be anything wrong with Gigantamaxing, riiiight?
It's the typical scenario we're all too familiar with of knowing a little bit but thinking we know everything about something without actually having done much research on the topic.

this isnt what i normally post but it's important to me that i say this
before you block me, please just hear me out
it scares me how much of alterhuman tumblr (and alterhumans in general) support(s) endogenic systems
systems are people who experienced severe repeated trauma before the age of nine. by removing the trauma factor its impossible to form alters.
before you turn nine, every emotion is a different state of self. (thank you @/quoigenicfromhell for helping me to understand this bit better) essentially you are a different person when you're hungry, happy, sad, scared, etc. when you experience such severe trauma that your body decides it's unsafe for your personalities to merge, THATS when you become a system.
Severe Repeated Childhood Trauma.
that is how systems form, thats literally how it works. the trauma factor is what makes the system a system
i wouldnt say im anti-endogenic, more like i'm endogenic cautious.
again i am all for hearing people out, please tell me your thoughts in the reblogs or comments, but this is just my personal take on it.
i wish no harm to people who identify as endogenic, live however you want to live.
this is how I've interpreted the topic as someone who isn't really qualified to have a take on it, i just wanted to share some of my thoughts.
UPDATE: I've read through the reblogs and comments on my take, and I still dont fully understand the identity itself, but it makes more sense now. Thank you to everyone who helped to explain it, I appreciate your help
I see everyone in the reblogs/comments talking about how being an endogenic system doubles as being alterhuman, but I really don't understand how that could be the case. If anyone's willing to explain it further please do

honestly i do not understand why some people are so insistent on wanting “permission” to use the r slur. are you genuinely so uncreative that you can’t think of any other less bigoted ways to insult a person. also like you don’t need permission to say a word but you can’t be an ableist asshole and expect people to NOT treat you like an ableist asshole

Hey, love your blog! I was wondering if you could tell me a bit about the mindscape, headspace, etc. is it a place in the astral or somewhere in between, and does it count as astral work/travel to go there. Thankyou :))
Hi, thank you!
I'll answer a bit out of order for a reason... I wouldn't count it as astral work/etc, I personally classify is under "mindwalking".
It's rough, in my experience basically every plane including this one is on a spectrum between Material and Mental. Every one is... both, at least if you can traverse it, which makes things confusing. However, just because both the ocean and the rain are experiences of "being in water", that doesn't make differentiating them unimportant - likewise just because technically even the physical plane is partly mental, that doesn't mean differentiating astral and mental are no longer important.
I answer classifications first mostly because I think its important that astral projection/etc is "Astral" not "mindspace" projection, "astral" is a term used for specific types of spaces in the way "physical" is. If "astral" and "mental" work were to be classified as the same thing, genuinely we may as well class "physical" things as "mental" too. None of that is saying you're (insert some negative word here) for asking about them, specifically Im lingering on it because the classification in itself is the biggest source of definitive lines drawn between things.
I'll say it this way: I guess its like asking about... Is a mountain a part of a valley? No. There is definitely a part where they are indistinguishable - but mountain climbers climb mountains, rivers settle in valleys, so while you can walk the line between these two things if youre aiming for Astral work (say: mountain climbing) youre not doing the same thing as mindwalking (say: river settling in a valley).
All that out of the way, I absolutely can tell you about those things in my experience. Mindspaces/headspaces (the only distinction I draw between terms is headspace is, in my experienced, used for systems and... as much as I know plurality comes about through many means, I am actually very big on medical terms being left to those that have medical disorders. Is headspace as much a medical term as system is? no, but Id rather stay out of it and just leave that term alone personally) (thats to say theyre likely similar or the same, but I cant talk on what gets called a headspace).
Mindspaces are complicated. They're essentially heavily rooted in the mental, which is to say the elemental mental... highly influenced by thought, extensions of self, mental is hard to define. That said, as I said earlier, theres places where mental and Astral blur. I actually have a portal in my mindspace to a place in Astral Mongolia, but that... involves weaving reality in... well. ok. TLDR its currently not super connected because it involves stitching a hole from unreality (not. nothingness, not nonreality) into reality, which is loosely like birthing something from nothing - but possible given the ties between them
Mindwalking does involve quite a few sort of... similar skills to AP and Astral work though. Not just that, but it shares similarities on a surface level IE you can meet spirits there as well as people you know irl, and so on. It is.... highly programmable
I think - on that note - a quick detour is important. The mental can be programmed to be incredibly realistic or absolute nothingness. Reality Shifting in all my experience - including creating and going into an "alternate reality" out of my control with my husband - is a Mental function. Dreams (everything from nonsensical flashes of memories, to weird unlucid adventures, to nightmares, to lucid dreaming) are Mental functions, "alternate realities" shifted into with RS, mindspaces, as well as autonomous other people/servitors/i-cant-stand-the-word-tulpa-but-thats-what-it-is-colloquiallys, manifestations of memories, visions/autovisions, as well as what Ive had in two mindspaces now, portals to other things including the astral, are all mental things... And so with that complexity hopefully its more understood when i say that one can go to the mindspace like they can project
its a different process but can be done with the same process, if that makes sense. You can lie down and get into the void state or whatever and "project" into the mental. That makes it complicated and hard to differentiate - if youre treating them as the same. if youre not its much easier to navigate. So, TLDR: Mindspace is a function of the mental where one creates a mental space that is sustained outside their image conjuring (if you put a book down in the mindspace and forget, it should still be there. if you put a book down in imagination while youre imagining youre in a place, it shouldnt still be there when you get back - mindspace is a stable mental space, imagination is a simulation of a space. technically both are simulations but mindspace becomes passively simulated and imagination is actively simulated), and theres a difference between astral and mental work (mindwalking is a type of mental work), but they do get mixed up and arent quite fully separate in many ways

once again thinking about the grinch and how they should've just left him alone
#feeling the cultural difference once again#which is weird because it's not quite december yet but#I think it's just the politics right now#very scary stuff really makes me remember that even though people are willing to interact with me#they assume that my culture is built on violence or vastly outdated or rudimentary#obviously media caters to the majority of the population but recent events really make me feel like I'm not supposed to be here#the widespread culture of the society we live in isn't one that I identify with#and there's always that subtle pressure of 'oh if you want to be included you need to be like us'#why do I have to alter my practices to have other people engage with me#and even if I were to assimilate I'd still be treated differently#I can't even remember the number of times people tried to convert my family or told me I shouldn't be dressing the way I do#and it's not even just strangers either#last year one of my close friends sent me a message on the fourth of july saying that it was nice I'm here even though 'it's not my place'#this isn't about 'modern ideas' by the way I feel like I should probably clarify that#last time I didn't and got anon hate because someone assumed I was talking about the lgbtq community which#no I support that this isn't about that#it's about the fact that people still ask me why I dress the way I do and get all angry when I say I'm not into christmas#it's about the fact that everyone knows christmas traditions but no one is willing to learn about holidays in other cultures#it's about how pushing christmas or st patricks day or the fourth of july is normal but me quietly celebrating my own holidays is 'wrong'#it's about how I was referred to as an 'it' in the public restrooms in middle school because white kids assumed I didn't know english#it's about going to the doctor's office and listening to someone speak slowly to me in case I don't understand#it's about people assuming I'm threatening someone when I speak in my own language on the phone#it's about random invasive checks at the airport that other people don't go through#vent#sorry it's just#frustrating

I know I’m being a hater and this is a 100% harmless thing that’s just a pet peeve of mine but truly one of the most annoying brands of post is “I don’t care about writing, grammar or punctuation rules. I do what I want!” And then the examples they give are. Completely in line with grammar/punctuation/writing conventions. And it’s like oh ok. You don’t even know what these rules are but you’ve decided you’re against them even as you follow them without knowing it. You are the writing equivalent of people who think Taylor Swift is punk just so you know.
#like there’s that one post that’s like ‘I will use commas recklessly idc if it’s a run-on’ and it’s like ok so you do not know what a#run-on is. and the incredibly long sentence with multiple commas you’ve provided as an ‘example’ of you not caring about ‘run-ons’ is not#only not a run-on it’s completely grammatically correct. lol. ok.#and then there’s that post that’s like ‘Honestly I don’t think you should have to follow grammar rules if it ruins the effect. I will use#sentence fragments and long sentences and make errors if it creates the emotional effect I want in my writing.’ And it’s like yes. correct.#That is a well-established widely-understood convention of creative writing. have you ever read a book before? did you not notice that the#writer probably used ‘incorrect grammar’ frequently? did you assume that was a mistake and not an intentional choice?#and idk I regularly see posts like this and it’s so funny because these people clearly learned these rules and clearly prefer to follow#these rules - yet they don’t understand that they’ve learned them or follow them#and really want to position themselves as rebels and these rules as adversaries lol and they just. don’t even know how completely#proper/conventional/unrebllious they’re actually being#meanwhile the people they imagine to be opposed to their rebellion (other writers and readers and probs English and language teachers)#are not in reality opposed to breaking grammar/punctuation/writing rules or grammar and haven’t been for a long time#because the idea that everyone had to follow standard English perfectly in all contexts is completely outdated and stopped being the#popular belief decades ago.#so it’s like. not only are you NOT breaking the rule you think you’re breaking - but you don’t need to make some final stand defending your#choice to break it either. because nobody cares. nobody wants to stop you. everybody else is either breaking rules or recognizing that the#rules are made to be broken. so it’s fine. please relax.

kind of thinking about trying to compile some kind of resource guide for existing english puyo fan translations .... cause like, they're all definitely Findable with a google search but i think for some people getting into the series would be less intimidating if they had their options laid out. it could also serve as a release timeline since.... puyo nexus doesnt... have. one of those.... idk if anyone would actually use it but boy do i love making lists anyway<3

Been trying to read Jules Verne's Journey to the Moon because it was one of my grandfather's favorite books, but it's also just fuckin chalk full of technical details about the orbit of the moon that I have already memorized for class ages ago and I am wondering if it is maybe the compilation of technical details that he loved more than the story.
#The story is good tbf it's just also told to some degree around the technical stuff#Which is definitely given a pretty central role in the story#IDK maybe it's less like that after chapter 6#I am just having trouble maintaining steam through the third chapter of stuff I memorized for one of the two astronomy classes I took#One in high school and one at a college level#Anyhow I will get to and through this book it's just tough mentally#Cause of how much some of it feels like school#lol tbf some of these details I memorized by playing a bunch of Kerbal Space Program#I've been playing a real solar system mod pack and that not class is where I learned the delta v budget you need to get to the moon#Which they spend all at once but also which matches my understanding of the number pretty well#Barring an extra km/s that Verne probably is using to account for the extra drag of the cannon approach vs the rocketry approach#And also tbf I do not know the technical details about cannon manufacture at all beyond some of the basic materials physics stuff#They compel me less than the space details I do know tho#I also do very much love that the premise of the whole thing is 'Americans sure do fuckin love their guns'#Like the character stuff is genuinely fun and well done#It's just against every other chapter being a technical manual on some aspect of the thing#And a technical manual whose details I either know or know are outdated by better newer understandings#Like the creation of the planet section is kinda right but mostly wrong by modern understandings#But also does reflect the best understanding of the time but also I know the history of these ideas anyhow
