The friend of his that his brother took the quirk from before murdering her in front of him. He seems like he would have so much baggage but also given the amount of repression and secrecy he’s got going on, i’m guessing none of the other users bar his husband and maybe third have any idea about the quirk’s origins

First has more baggage than the turnstile at the airport.

He thinks about his friend a lot. He doesn’t talk about her.

Second knows about her. Second knows about most things. He’s the only one who knows how exactly First ended up in the Vault.

Third knows a little. This is because when the resistance was trying to find out what First knew about his brother’s operation, they showed him his own goddamn wanted poster from his My Life As A Teenage Unabomber phase. Oh yeah throw back to when he was a “wanted terrorist.”

Apparently, from everyone else’s perspective, there was some guy and some girl ten years back who made a bit of a name for themselves. Everyone thought they must have had some kind of intel no one else did about all for one, because they hit places that no one even knew all for one was involved in yet. Not exactly the same style as the resistance—they exclusively did quick and dirty pipe bomb attacks—but they were weirdly precise in targets. Like, they got a manhunt after them a while ago after they pulled off a hit in one of the wards that still liked to pretend at society. A bit authoritarian, but given the chaos of the rest of the Japan, it was almost welcomed. They had introduced mandatory medical examinations for everyone. Swore up and down it was just to prevent accidents when meta abilities manifested. People had been disappearing in this ward, meta and non meta alike, but that was true everywhere now. And then a bomb went off in the office of a respected clinic, and some of the first responders saw their missing neighbors dead in the files when they rushed in, and also there was suddenly records flittering from the fucking sky—

It turned into a riot and a lynch mob. Not exactly a nice place to life after. Less orderly. Hanging political leaders in the city square gets so tetchy. But the experiments stopped, at least in that lab. It wasn’t until years after that that the resistance to realize all for one had set up the lab. Apparently he had anti-meta figureheads in the game and pro-meta figureheads. Like a third of the factions claiming to be Japan’s government and fighting each other for control was just. All for One fighting himself. He was just increasing the chaos and strain so people would eventually fight him less when he returned order at the cost of their freedom. And these guys seemed to know it before anyone. They disappeared a while ago, and the resistance always assumed all for one caught and killed them, but if first could confirm—

Why is he laughing.

It was just so goddamn funny. His secret intel was being physically locked in his brother’s central command center before the vault. He thought his brother missed that, sometimes. It was more convenient for him. If he wanted access to First, he could just go right down the hall. But in the end, that convenience was trumped by the assurance of the vault. It took longer to get to First, but All for One always was sure he’d still be there.

First’s relationship with the resistance was a little rocky originally. He made a lot of people nervous. His brother was threatening brutal death to all of them for this, and a lot of them suspected that First was really just… bait. A spy they had voluntarily brought into their organization. Here’s something to rescue—don’t suspect him of being on all for one’s side now. He was just. A big risk. His chronic need to fuck off didn’t help. But he passed the initial polygraph and their literal leader thought he was legit for some reason, so he was given leeway, but a lot of people were on edge with him at first. So he gets a lecture about laughing at people who his brother had more likely than not murdered

Oh.

Her, all for one killed.

Third just knew he had a partner in crime for a bit that his brother killed. First confessed to him, once, on one of the few times that he got drunk with Third, that the Quirk his brother had forced on him was really hers, and he hated it so goddamn much. He tried to dig it out from beneath his skin when his brother made him take it, but he just ended up strapped to that dumb fucking medical cot for for his trouble. He thought pain was supposed to get easier with time. It’s been ten years now and all he’s done is forgotten what she looked like. He’s just got these shitty fucking wanted posters that were missing most of her face and enough regret to drown in. The only reason why he knows grief can’t kill you is because he would have managed it by now.

He never talked about what she was like in life, really, or ever again. First didn’t like to talk about it. He didn’t like to talk about a lot of things.

He went looking for her when he found himself in One for All. He could never find her, or her memories, and he eventually accepted she wasn’t in there. He’s not sure why. Maybe it wasn’t strong enough when she had it to make a copy of her. Maybe when it combined with his quirk it reset it, somehow. His and her quirk had just blended in a way the others hadn’t. Every user could access stockpile and transference, after all. But their own quirks didn’t pass down to each user. So maybe when his fused with hers they made something new and wiped out the old. Maybe he killed her a second time.

He didn’t talk about her with the Past Users. It’s not exactly that he didn’t like or trust them. Trusting them (at least more than the average person) was actually a kind of easy decision—it’s really hard to sell him out to his brother when they’re already fucking dead.

Her memory is so tangled up in so many of the worst moments of his life that he struggles to talk about it. Like, completely independent of trust issues, he just doesn’t like to tell people things. He doesn’t like how they look at him after. He doesn’t like how it dredges up all the old mess and feelings in his head. He’s not sure if it’s a side effect of one for all’s stockpiling or if he’s just never gotten over a goddamn thing in his life, but the emotions all feel just as fresh as they did two hundred years ago. He’d rather just. Not think about it.

Especially with how he doesn’t even feel like the same person as he was with her.

It was the last time in his life that he was really young. He never had a real childhood, but they were sort of babies when they were off trying amateur terrorism. He was seventeen when he ran from his brother the first time. He thinks he was maybe just barely eighteen when he met her. She was older, but not by a lot, and she’d gotten an actual childhood.

He wasn’t. He was fucked up when he was with her but he wasn’t fucked up the way he is now. He told her things. Telling people things didn’t feel like handing them a knife the way it does now.

They were a couple of kids just… pretending they could handle anything they were up to. She especially had a very young belief in the idea that they’d somehow make it through. She took First to his brother thinking he’d save First, and then she’d find a way to steal First back from him, and then this wouldn’t just end with her all alone and him gone. She never even considered it’d turn out the other way around.

First already sort of figured he’d gotten stuck with the casting call for a tragedy when he was born. He wishes he’d told her that. Maybe she’d have let this end the right way around then.

It sort of fucking hurts to look at Class 1-A sometimes. They carry on the way First used to with her. She was basically still a high school student when he knew her. She never even finished her last year. And they just acted so goddamn young together. And how Nine’s entire class have banded together to save him with this stupid, innocent, young assurance that the hero always won and their story would have a happy ending—

He thinks about her a lot when he’s at the school.

The Past Users find out a little bit about her. When they start using Shinsou’s quirk to work on getting Izuku back, the users also try to get dream connection working. It’s easier now, almost as if Shinsou showed them all a path hidden in the underbrush, but First ends up slipping a lot when he’s dreaming. No one had really expected that. He was always the best at not, is the thing. But he doesn’t remember that, and also he’s never tried to navigate one for all from the outside. So he slips and they have to scramble to find him.

Sixth ends up finding him in a memory of her, and his attempts at pulling First out accidentally slip him into a memory of her death. Sixth follows and sees it. It isn’t pleasant.

What's your favourite Citroën? I'm really partial to the 2010 era Picassos mainly because it was my first car.

INTRO - Citroën Makes a(nother) Cubist MPV

I'm also quite familiar with the C4 Picasso, as I've mentioned before, and its predecessor the Xsara Picasso, as I've also mentioned - the latter actually being the first car I was there for the purchase of! I remember it rather fondly, but looking back at it it was a rather cheap vehicle, with levers that snapped off, rear trays that popped out, and the overall feeling of being inside an electric toothbrush upon exceeding highway speed limits. And of course, the repeated engine failures that pushed us to update.

The C4 Picasso had its flimsy and questionable bits as well, but much less so - though, unlike its progenitor, it did once leave us stranded, the clutch living up to the C4 name. But hey, it was one time. And it had some cool features, even beyond the piéce de resistance brought up in that post. The little side pods containing the climate controls...

...the integrated perfume offered by a little capsule we definitely bothered to get refills for, as perfectly illustrated by this lovely YouTube thumbnail...

...a trunk light that detached to become a flashlight, a handbrake I once again dare readers to spot, gloveboxes atop the dashboard, and yet more still... including, perhaps most importantly, a windshield so humongous that it required a two-stage sun visor.

I am a big believer in the power of glass when it comes to improving a car's experience (see how hard I raved about a sunroof) and this really did do much more than give the car alopecia.

But it could only bring so much excitement to a cheap, anemic MPV in the famed grey I've gone over my distaste for and an interior color best described as "dirty interior".

The design of the C3 Picasso, which I seem to be completely alone in appreciating...

...was apparently inspired, along with Smeg fridges, by iPods (and judging by these pictures, the car's size seems to be somewhere between the two).

And, well, my hazy recollection of our C4 has it feeling a bit closer to an iPod bootleg - a funky, ambitious design writing a check that its build quality couldn't quite cash.

And indeed, that chapter ended when we weren't willing to fork over for the nth repair. But since the dealership offered us such a pittance to trade it in, family friends were able and willing to muster a better offer and so it lives on under their ownership. I'm happy about that - and, since we let it go before I began driving, I would be curious to give it a try. But it's no love of mine.

And not because it's too everyday a vehicle to be that - I don't need a supercar to get excited.

But, as we'll see tomorrow, it does help.

My brother and I watched Earthspark recently (we haven’t gotten around to Season 2 yet, my bad on that), and honestly, it was kind of hard watching Season 1 again for me because I know things get ruined, never answered/elaborated on, or concepts aren’t capitalized on

You can’t fully enjoy Starscream because you know the writers are going to ruin him, I feel like the war and Megatron in particular’s place in it should have been explored more, Schloder and Alex I feel like could have been an interesting dynamic given they’re both mega Bumblebee fans (and Schloder’s proven to be a good guy and there’s no threat now), and how Bumblebee deals with the fact that now there’s two of them

But I think the thing that pisses me off the most, at least right now, is that we never find out what Soundwave’s deal is, and we will never know, especially because I don’t think the show’s coming back at this rate

Like I get he’s mostly a one-off, most of the Cybertronian characters are; like Arcee or Grimlock or Tarantulas or Swindle. But like, most of them only needed that one episode to get their characters across or to deal with their arcs, they didn’t need that much more to explore them

But meanwhile Soundwave has this incredible grudge against Megatron, and we never get an explanation in his episode as to why. Yes, Megatron is a traitor to the Decepticons, but no other Decepticon reacts nearly as bad as Soundwave (though honestly his betrayal probably should’ve been explored more with them), and if they react badly, that reason is explained, like with Starscream or Shockwave. So why is Soundwave so different?

It feels like because his treatment of Megatron is so different from the others, there’s a special reason why he’s so mad at him. But what was it? I feel like there was a story there, we just never got it

I think Soundwave’s initial episode was good for showing the situation Megatron finds himself in in current day, and the disagreements between him and Optimus, as I’m pretty sure this was our first look at the complicated GHOST situation, the problem is it’s not elaborated on afterwards

And I wouldn’t even necessarily call it all Season 2’s fault, because I think Soundwave probably should’ve gotten another episode in Season 1 explaining him and Megatron. His episode was in the first batch of episodes, and then he’s just sort of standing around in then background for the rest of the season, and it’s very distracting

But that doesn’t really matter, because from Season 2 onwards Soundwave is yet again never elaborated on, and by this point I don’t think we’re ever getting that backstory, especially as they’re not even on the same planet anymore

Honestly at the end of the day, Frenzy and Lazerbeak were probably more important characters than Soundwave, since they at least had 1 or 2 more notable appearances

Like honestly, I don’t even know why Soundwave never really did anything after his debut. I don’t think it’s for the same reasons as someone like Grimlock, who has a likely more expensive voice actor in Keith David. As far as I’m aware, Soundwave’s VA, Sean Kenin Elias-Reyes, isn’t particularly famous, at least not to the level of other people like Keith David, or Alan Tudyk, aka the voice of Optimus, like the VA probably isn’t too expensive to not bring back. And I’m going to assume VA work is more flexible than live action work, so schedule issues are presumably not the problem, unless it was something else I don’t know about

I think I’m rambling at this point, I’m not entirely sure what I’m saying or how coherent this is, and I’ve probably repeated myself way too much. The point is, Soundwave seemed to have some sort of special beef with Megatron, or at least one not elaborated on in his debut, which makes it seem more significant (probably because he was the first of the Big 3 Decepticon Command that we met, though Starscream was also teased), or at least something we would learn more about. But then we never got that, Soundwave never did anything important again, and it really pisses me off because I have to know what happened, but the show didn’t tell me, and now it will never tell me

Smash cut to: everyone being strong-armed into a planet-hopping fetch quest across six wildly inconsistent episodes.

Highlights include:

– an ocean made entirely of acid – a bunch of brains in jars that can mind-control what you see—but only if they sneak into your room at night and tape tiny plastic pyramids to your forehead – a sentient forest that tries to kill everyone – Someone: “We should split up!” Everyone else: “What a brilliant idea, what could possibly go wrong?” Cue absolutely everything going wrong. Instantly. (x3) – Ian gets framed for murder – The Doctor volunteers as his lawyer – The Doctor then proceeds to be so bad at it that Ian is sentenced to death by extreme boredom in a room where the punishment is “stare at this clock until you die”

Eventually: “Hi Robe Guy! We got the keys!” Robe Guy: is now dead Everyone: “Oh no!” Also everyone: accidentally explodes the machine

Alphonso and Sloane both work for the Commission on spirit-wrangling or whatever it is the commission does. They're a bit younger than Five (Sloane is 22, Alphonso is 20), and are roughly equivalent to Agent Day, for anyone familiar with the original comic. Basically, theyre there to snoop.

Marcus has some kind of band kid rivalry with Viktor. I don't know enough about band to determine what it is, but rest assured that they are very passionate about it.

Paranatural has vampires in it! I don't know what the deal is with vampires in paranatural so i wasn't going to include any, but specifically Fei and Jayme as vampires won me over. They probably spend their time trying to kill sparrow Ben.

Umbrella Ben and Sparrow Ben are both in this au! They're twins :)

(okay, you don't actually think it's so bad. to be fair, he did plan this a year ago. and it did sound like a good idea. then. at the time. anywhere with the boys was always guaranteed fun―at least, until you and matsukawa broke up.)

"can you pass me the flashlight?" he points at the backpack behind you. when you hand it over, your fingers brush over his as he takes it away from you.

and you hate it, because―

lesson #2: you should never be alone with your ex when you still have feelings for them.

you'd agreed to take two cars to the camping spot: iwaizumi's with oikawa and hanamaki and matsukawa's with you. there was no way you'd fit in one, and hanamaki ultimately decided to ride with iwaizumi because, "you and mattsun have shit to sort out," he'd said.

with night setting and the two-hour headstart they managed to get ahead of you, the best thing you and matsukawa can do is to set up camp temporarily and wait for them to come back for you come sunrise.

you sigh.

leaves crack underneath your feet as you maneuver around your camping space. the light from matsukawa's flashlight tells you where he is, just a bit deeper in the forestry as he looks for wood to help set up the fire.

you unload the car in the meantime, bringing out some snacks and sleeping bags while waiting.

matsukawa eventually comes back with arms full of wood, and you help in whatever way you can, clearing the space and fetching more twigs when needed.

the entire car ride here had been quiet, so it's not surprising that this entire process has been equally as silent. until―

"did you already pull out your tent?" he asks, half of his body disappearing into the trunk of the car.

"huh?" you go closer, "i only brought out the sleeping bags."

then he sighs, ducking out from the trunk with a hand on his hip, "we only have one tent."

"what?"

"makki must have gotten yours with his when he decided to move cars."

his hand runs through his hair, a habit you know well. it lights up all sorts of weird feelings in your tummy

you don't know how to feel―

"i can sleep in the car."

―but you know that you definitely don't want him to do that. all things considered, you were friends first. and you've both been trying to be friends again since the breakup. you wouldn't want to cause him discomfort like that.

so, with a deep breath, you say, "it's okay, we can just share."

"are you sure?" he stares at you.

you nod.

after setting up the tent, you eat a few energy bars and clean up from the day's events. the campfire provides ample enough heat, but with how fast the flames are burning, you're doubtful it'll last the two of you the entire night.

it’s much later on, past midnight, that your doubts are proven right when you and matsukawa are cramped together in a tent made for one. it started to get cold a few minutes ago, and you've found yourself inching closer and closer to the warmth you’ve gotten used to laying against for the past two years.

he's only pretending to be asleep, you know that much, too. the rise and fall of his chest is hardly there; you can see it, how he's holding his breath being this close to you.

"issei," you whisper.

he opens his eyes, eyelids lifting lazily as he meets your stare. the vibration of his hum reverberates to you.

"it's cold."

for a moment, your stomach drops at the thought that he could ignore you; how it would make perfect sense for him to. you broke up with him after all, and he doesn't owe you anything, much less favors as intimate as this one.

but he closes the already dwindling gap between you, wrapping an arm around your waist as he pulls you closer. it's near, far too near for exes to be―noses touching and all.

"warmer?" his voice comes out hoarser through the whisper.

you nod, your head shifting up and down—which, truly, is where you ultimately fuck up. you feel it, a little chapped but still pliant against your lips.

in your carelessness, you accidentally brush your lips against his, the sensation alone surprising you enough to inch your head back as you mutter your apologies.

"sorry? really?" he asks, eyes half-lidded still as he chuckles.

his question settles into the small space you're in.

your vision trails from his eyes, down to the slope of his nose, until it lands on his lips again. a little split like you've always known, but still your favorite. still the only lips you want against yours.

when you lean in again, you know you're fucked, because―

so that's what i've been working on for the past 2 weeks! i wanted to draw something for this intro ever since i first listened to it (as a companion piece to my other gur drawing, though it of course ended up being way bigger in scale), but it only really gripped me about halfway through PALISADE ep 18. the next morning after that i listened to this narration on repeat for about 45 minutes and then made a big sketch on 4 sheets of paper at my desk at work.

anyways, i haven't listened to the new episode yet but i think i'm probably ready for whatever they're gonna throw at us with the next sortie. i'm gonna believe, against it all, in millennium break. for gur

if we assume that each of the three pillars comes exactly three times for a total of nine times, and we know that the 7th time it was the 40-year guardian, and if we assume that was her final visit and the last two visits will be split between the 30-year guardian and the 8-year guardian, we can calculate how long ago the miharu family made that deal: (40x3)+(30x2)+(8x2)=196 years. 196 years ago it was 1828, but i think this is supposed to be set in the 1980s or 90s, so call it the late 1700s. that's the kind of thing matoba as the head of the matoba clan has to concern himself with - deals with youkai made by people 200 years ago from families that don't even exist anymore. it's an interesting contrast to the thing he says to natsume at the end of this arc, about the 9th visit, which is 30 years away, being someone else's problem. he's embroiled in the past but doesn't even think he'll get to have a future.
