this is from the loveday/cytherea fic entitled Exaltation of the Beloved Lady

Loveday wasn’t squeamish. You couldn’t be, if you were best friends with a prodigy animaphiliac. And besides that, she actually had a fascination with medical science. Cytherea had led her in dissections as children, guiding her hands and showing her where to cut, telling her the names of things. She loved to listen as Cytherea explained her research to her, referencing books of anatomy, pointing out what she was talking about. Loveday could hold an intelligent conversation about flesh magic by the age of eight, despite her complete lack of aptitude. Cytherea had told her, laughing, that it was a tragedy that she wasn’t a necromancer. That they’d really lost something when Loveday was born without aptitude. Loveday thought, privately, that Cytherea’s genius more than made up for it. 

And so it wasn’t squeamishness that made her uncomfortable with Cytherea’s studies. It was just that– Well. 

Cytherea hunched over a microscope, blood matted into the hair at her temples. Her hands were shaking, as they usually were, by that point. Her breathing had been getting gradually more aggressive for the past hour or so—she was recovering from a cold, and there was a dry, labored quality to it. She growled low in her throat, finally breaking concentration, and pushed away from the table. Loveday went to her, reached out, but Cytherea pulled away. “I’m alright,” she said. “I’m okay, but I can’t– it won’t–”

“I take it the samples are still dying?”

“It’s not only that they’re still dying, I could work with this if they were only dying, I could think of something else to do to them, but they’re dying at the same rate and showing signs of new growth.”

“Which is bad.”

“Which is absolutely terrible. I’m beginning to think I’d have better luck creating myself a new body wholesale than halting the decay of this one.”

“Rhea, that sounds to me like the scientific breakthrough of the millennium.”

“Oh, it’s fascinating, I could go down in history just for getting this far, but it’s not good enough.” These last three words were punctuated by Cytherea slamming the heel of her palm against the metal table, causing all the objects on it to jump.

“I need a living subject,” she said, speaking more to herself than to Loveday now, “One who’s healthy. If I could only see how cells respond when they’re not dying faster than they can be created, then maybe I’d have some good data to work with. That’s the problem with cadavers, you know, even the freshest ones produce no thalergy whatsoever, and my only ethical live subject is a dying girl. I don’t make for much of a control group, Lovie, let me tell you.”

“I mean,” said Loveday, “There’s always me.”

Cytherea looked up as if she’d forgotten that Loveday could speak. “What about you?”

“I’m healthy, and I’m still growing. I think. That means I’m producing more thalergy than thanergy, doesn’t it?”

“No.”

“Oh. But I’m still viable as a subject, right? I fit the profile.”

She blinked. “What? No, you produce quite a lot of thalergy, actually, you’re as healthy and vital as anyone your age can be. Exactly what one would hope for. I meant ‘no,’ as in, ‘no, I will not be using you for a live subject.’”

“But why not? I would work.” Loveday hated how petulant she sounded, how young. 

“Because it could be dangerous. New cellular growth occurring independent of your normal cycles of growth and decay—do you know what we usually call that?”

Pause. “Oh.”

“Mm. One cancer patient is enough for me, thank you. I will not have you on my conscience like that, Lovie, I refuse.”

Underrated JayVik moments/lines (13/∞)

"You should come up with me. We're partners!"

...This well-meaning, painfully oblivious himbo is2g.

Don't get me wrong; it's great that Jayce wants Viktor to be included. But that scene as a whole, to me, has always been one of the most brutal when it comes to the developing disconnect between Jayce and Viktor.

It's the most unguarded with Jayce Viktor will ever be about his anxiety regarding the precarious spot he inhabits in Piltover and society as a whole, his damaged self-image... and yet there is not a shred of recognition on Jayce's face as to why Viktor would decline to make a public appearance in front of "all of them".

After all, they're partners, equals (and in Jayce's eyes, Viktor was never broken), so where's the issue?

This right here is a running theme throughout season 1 - time and time again, Jayce fully fails to assume Viktor's perspective and see what the world looks like through his eyes. Jayce knows he thinks the world of Viktor, but sadly, this blinds him to how differently they are treated, how broken Viktor views himself in anticipation of people's disdain, and above that, just how lonely Viktor feels.

How fully and truly forsaken he feels whenever Jayce fails to support him.

Jayce doesn't understand that Viktor needs him at all.

Once you recognise this, you see it in almost all of their scenes throughout acts 2 and 3. Even in some they don't share, such as, infamously, the sex scene.

(Even the one time Jayce appears somewhat close to this realisation, he says "now he needs me and there's nothing I can do" ...Jayce please. Even Mel understood that the only thing he would have had to do for Viktor was to not leave him alone, yet this pure-of-heart, dumb-of-ass boyfailure keeps wanting to do the most and thereby accomplishing the least. I love my man dearly but Christ alive...)

Thankfully though, it doesn't stay that way.

Because not only does Jayce eventually learn – in a very hands-on way – what the world looked like from Viktor's perspective by losing the function of his leg, clawing his way from the depths of the Fissures to the top of Piltover in maddening solitude (save for the gawking of unsympathetic entities). And not only does he learn that the „impossible dream“ as his mother put it, the beauty and the salvation he was chasing his entire life was Viktor all along.

He also learns that this same dream literally bent time and space solely to set Jayce on his path to Viktor. To save him from himself, to save him from loneliness –

because Viktor needs him.

"Only you can show me this." - Without you, I am lost.

And I believe the moment Jayce realised this, understood the depth and scale to which Viktor actually needed him, that's all there was. In the end, when given the choice, of course he was going to stay with Viktor over abandoning him ever again.

(Disclaimer: When I refer to Jayce as a himbo or a dumbass, I am not downplaying his intellect, only questioning why he's not using it sometimes.)

My siblings in Primus, holy fucking shit. I made an Optimus Height Chart. This took me.. SO LONG TO DO. Were y'all aware of how many Optimus designs there are?? Because I don't have all of them on this chart, and I still have TWENTY NINE (29, a 2 and a 9) out of the THIRTY SIX (36, a 3 and a 6) that exist. I didn't include the SEVEN (7) because either they were just a temporary upgraded form, or I already had multiple designs from that universe that were the same height and having all of them is redundant and repetitive.

40 fucking years and nearly as many distinct designs, I deserve a medal, honestly. Optimus has been in every single piece of media the Transformers franchise has ever made. Working on this in tandem with the Megatron one was a wild choice of mine, but I did it.

I included Optimus Primal on this chart. Both are named Optimus, I should not have to explain myself. Big Monkey and Big Truck are the same. No, your honour, I do not plead insanity; why do you ask?

G1 Beast Wars V1 - ~9 Feet (Primal. Straight from TFWiki, converted to feet and rounded, the tiniest baby man gorilla)

G1 Beast Machines - ~8 Feet (Primal. The wiki failed me, but I found a old forum discussion where they made a chart comparing all the BW/M characters. Glorious stuff, I commend their effort.)

G1 Beast Wars V2 - ~10 Feet (Primal. TFWiki with the clutch, I will not always be this lucky.)

Earth Spark - ~15 Feet (Prime. No official numbers have been given, but I have already figured out how tall Bee is, and I was able to compare the two and get a good estimate. This is the shortest non-animal universe to date holy shit. Look at this, I'm showing my work

RID 2001 - ~16 Feet (Prime. TFWiki once more, we love one source for everything)

Unicron Trilogy V2&3/ENG&CYB - ~16 Feet (Prime. For the uneducated, the Unicron Trilogy has given each of its 3 seasons separate names and 3 separate art styles. These are the designs used in Energon (S2) and Cybertron (S3). The Wiki had Cybertron's numbers but not Energon's, so for my own sanity, I decided the two were the same height. I could have done something in between Cybertron's and Armada's (S1) numbers, but there was a lot of float between the two)

G1 Beast Wars V3 - ~16 Feet (Primal/Optimal Optimus, this is the result of a fusion between Primal and Prime. The TFWiki says this design is like 40 feet tall, but if that is true, Rattrap, a character stated to be 1.8m or ~6f tall across several sources across several different languages, is actually not that tall. So I call bullshit, this guy is 2.6 Rattraps tall, making him around 16f or 4.9m tall. Checkmate, I win)

Prime Wars V1 - ~17 Feet (Primal. Slight spoilers for further into this chart but I decided that the Prime Wars Trilogy and the Netflix Cybertron Trilogy Optimuses were the same height as the Gen 1 design, because they're nearly identical. So comparing Primal to Prime, Primal comes up to about Prime's tits, bada bing bada boom)

Netflix Cybertron Trilogy - ~17 Feet (Primal. Identical explanation to above, don't want to repeat myself)

One V1 - ~17 Feet 10 inches (Prime. Okay, the Wiki says 32.534 feet, and I call Bullshit. A: These numbers are sourced from the Walmart Promotional AR Experience that came out before the movie. B: There are three decimal points, and that number does not convert into a whole number in meters (which is originally what I thought was weird about it). C: The director has said that this movie is both canon to the LA movies and its own separate canon. I already stated all of this in my Bumblebee chart post, and I will be dying on this hill. This is as short as we see OP in the movie, him at his tallest should match his KCV height, he's never taller than Megsy, so knock a couple feet off the biggest number and voila, my brain hurts)

One V2 - ~18 Feet 10 Inches (Prime. Same explanation as above, but taller than he was without his cog, because he got bigger)

Gen 1 - ~19 Feet (Prime. TFWiki has saved me the effort of figuring it out myself)

Prime Wars - ~19 Feet (Prime. As I said before, since this design is identical to Gen 1, it is the same height)

Netflix Cybertron Trilogy - ~19 Feet (Prime. I've said it twice now, identical, therefore same height)

Knight/Capel-Verse - ~19 Feet 4 inches (Primal. No Robot height given, I have his monkey form height from TFWiki, but comparing him to Optimus he's only a few inches shorter)

Prime Wars V2 - ~ 20 Feet (Primal. Compared to Prime, Prime comes up to about Primal's nose area, and we all know how tall I think this Prime is)

Animated - 20 Feet 6 Inches (Prime. This number actually comes from @phoenix-inanis and the glorious calculations they have done on the TFA Characters. Cyberverse - 21 Feet (Prime. Oh, shitty screenshot from a random Russian YouTube video; you treat me so well. I would adore a better scan of this if anyone has one)

Unicron Trilogy V1/ARM - 22 Feet 11 Inches (Prime. Technically, this number is for the Armada video game, which isn't exactly canon to the show. But I don't have any other numbers and my brain is tired, so CANON IT IS)

Aligned Cont. RID15 V1 - 25 Feet (Prime. I'm really proud of this one: I can already hear some of your questions. "But I thought his second form was as tall as his TFP V2 form, and this one was as tall as TFP V1," "but his V1 forms and V2 forms look like each other," You thought Wrong!! And I can Prove it!! Let's refresh ourselves on the height difference between TFP V1 Prime and Bee.

As we can see, Bee comes up to the top of Optimus's hips. Lovely. Now, let's look at RID15's height difference when Optimus first returns. Keep in mind that RID15 Bee and TFP Bee are the same height.

Look, Bee comes up to Optimus's chest in this form, not his hips. He comes up to a similar point on Bulkhead in the previous picture. Let's look at Prime's second form.

This is from the intro; yes, Bee is crouched, but look, if he stood straight he only comes up to about Prime's hips, JUST LIKE IN TFP!!! With this evidence, we can conclude that Prime's first RID15 form is similar in height to Bulkhead! I was so fucking excited to show y'all this, I was so proud of myself, I still am)

Bayverse V1 - 28 Feet (Prime. From the first 4 movies. Straight from TFWiki, because Mr. Michael Bay loves me)

i am by NO means a linguist, merely someone who took some college classes and thinks willmack are such funny sharks

vancouver -> bay area, ca @ 12 -> minnesota @ 14 -> chicago @ 16 -> boston @ 17 -> bay area, ca

most people say that the vancouverite accent is the same as a pacific northwest/northern california accent, and for the most part i think this holds especially true for macklin (and aiden - they sounds so similar it's crazy!)

while he may be a california boy now, he definitely does have still have some canadians in him still - especially prominent when back in vancouver:

"out" - in all the clips of him, his "out" is always pronounced like a canadian, with an e as in bet + oot as in loot vs the american pronunciation with ow + t. he also seems to do this with "about" and "house"

"the states" - when in vancouver, he explains that his family is going to be doing christmas "down in the states" but also refers to the us as going "down to the states" pretty frequently

"eh" - he for sure does not say this canadianism as much as others, but when with friends and/or chirping someone it does present itself

he's also adopted some weird midwestern americanism's, maybe from his time living at ssm in minnesota and then a year in chicago

one notable thing is his pronunciation of aunt. from my understanding, "aunt" is pronounced as "ant" by vancouverites (same as we do in northern california). yet mack, from what i've heard, pronounces it as "awunts", which according to extensive blog research and minnesota friend consultation, i think is something minnesotans feel strongly correct about.

in summary - mack is a diluted vancouverite, and blends in right at home in northern california

i'm going to be completely honest - will was incredibly boring (to me) linguistically. i watched hours upon hours of interviews of him talking but nothing stuck out like a sore thumb like some of mack's did.

coming into my research, i expected to pinpoint will's accent as a strong boston accent - his family has lived there since forever, etc, but i was finding it difficult (to my bad, untrained ear).

i think a reason for this could be the decline of the strong boston accent in younger generations, particularly surrounding the horse–hoarse merger (which essentially means that the "traditional" boston accent would pronounce the two separately, whereas now they're pronounced the same). also possible that he just never absorbed the accent because his mom is from chicago and not boston? uncertain

i tried to listen for a couple notable elements of a traditional boston accent

non-rhoticity (or, dropping the "r" at the end of words - think "pahk" for park). will really doesn't do it: when pronouncing "river" you can hear the r at the end, and when pronouncing "car" you can hear the r (although he is impersonating mack here - he has a specific mack voice which is funny!)

cot-caught merger. the "traditional" boston accent will pronounce the two differently, with "coffee" pronounced the same way as caught (think cAW-fee). will however, has merged, and pronounces "coffee" without an 'aw' sound, like toffee.

boston. will actually has quite a "modern boston" accent when pronouncing boston. it's not as notable as traditional (bah-stin) and not as far as "general american" (baw-sten), but is a "modern accent" (baw-stin).

why isn't his accent as strong? it's possible that his family is just too far from being working class (his mom barely has a "non standard" american accent), yet his dad does have larger traces of the traditional accent. in summary - he's a modern boy!

one thing that has been pointed out by even interviewers is how posed and confident will comes across in the media. will attributes this to "st. sebastian's in needham...which helped me off the ice in all aspects". st. sebastian's website lists the following as part of their academic pathway:

so i'm assuming even prior to doing media and getting pr training at the usntdp, will is used to talking to a big group of people - so he's right in his self assessment!

AGAIN, i am a historian and researcher by training NOT a social scientist or linguist --- i could be way off!! if you have thoughts i would love to hear them

6/11/25 - Ineffable Gravity (E) by @enderhuntresss elevates the Crowley/Aziraphale arguments to a whole new level in this human AU in which the rockstar astrophysicist has to learn to work with the creative writing prof.

6/18/25 - Still We Know Each Other So Well (E) by @paperclipninja answers the question, "what would happen if both Aziraphale and Crowley lost their memories?" Absolutely worth reading as a WIP to watch the story unfold.

It's a comedic, action-packed, heartfelt film from the wonderful and talented Animators in the Philippines, who've been animating American cartoons for years, but rarely get to tell our own stories.

***This would take a longer discussion about queerness in the Philippines, but there's a lot of overlap between gay men, transwomen, and drag queens in the Philippines, under the term "bakla". Very often, this identity is attached to an expression of femininity by someone assigned male at birth. Because pronouns are not gendered in the Philippines, whether someone sees themselves as gay, trans, nonbinary, etc, is up to the person, even if they're all "bakla". Ada is, in international discussions, referred to as a gay man; but it's important to note he shows an adoration for his feminine body as Zsa zsa that may resonate with transfem readers. I'll continue to refer to Ada as "he" and Zsazsa as "she", but it's important to note that this is due to the gendered nature of discussing this in English, and culturally, there are nuances in the Philippines around the fluidity of gender as a result of our non-gendered pronouns. AO3 Phandom Stats - Top or Bottom?

As many of you may have noticed there has been a shift in the depiction of Dan and Phil in fanfiction over the past few months from previously predominantly Dan being written as the bottom to now largely Phil bottoming. This post aims to put that trend into numbers and visualise it in a few overly convoluted diagrams below the cut.

Does any of this matter? Absolutely not.

Is it interesting? Oh boy, it sure is!

Disclaimer: This is an analysis of the fanfiction writing and tagging trends within the Phandom. It's at most tangentially related to the Real People Dan and Phil and is not meant to spark any type of discourse. I am doing this as an avid fanfic reader and with the utmost respect and appreciation for the authors of these fics, so I don't want to see any negativity directed towards them. Above all this is meant to be fun and interesting.

Methodology

To get the numbers shown here I filtered the works in the Phandom/The Fantastic Foursome (YouTube RPF) AO3 tag by "date updated" from the Jan 1st to Dec 31st of each year and by the following tags:

Bottom Dan Howell

Bottom Phil Lester

Top Dan Howell

Top Phil Lester

Short excurse on AO3 tags for those unaware:

The tags I chose are canonical tags, which means other tags that mean the same thing but are for example spelled differently are linked to this tag by tag wranglers and appear when you search for the canonical tag (see example below).

Additionally, the "bottom x" tags are metatags for the power bottom tags, which means fics tagged with "power bottom x" also appear when you filter works for these tags.

It's important to note that not every fic where one of them tops or bottoms is tagged as such. That means these stats very specifically look at the author's choice to tag fics with these tags and not the overall amount of fics where one of them tops or bottoms. However, I would argue it's fair to assume that it's at least somewhat reflective of the general writing trends within the Phandom.

For simplicity's sake I will refer to these tags as e.g. "Bottom!Phil" (b!p) going forward.

Stats 2013 - 2024

Here you can see how many fics were tagged with each tag in the respective year and the amount of bottom!dan and bottom!phil fics relative to the total amount of fanfic written in the same time span.

As expected, up until 2023 the split was about 2 b!d to 1 b!p fic (precise numbers: 71% to 29%; see pie chart above).

In 2018 we can see a peak in both in the number of phanfics written and the relative amount of fics tagged as bottom!dan.

Starting in 2023 (more on that below!) this flips and in 2024 the ratio of b!d to b!p fics was 1 to 4 (precise numbers: 81% to 19%; see pie chart above).

Furthermore, making up 4,62% of the total amount of phanfics written in 2024, the bottom!phil tag is relatively speaking twice as popular now as the bottom!dan tag ever was.

Sidenote: You can see that generally the amount of fics tagged with b!d and t!p, as well as b!p and t!d correspond to each other for obvious reasons (they're usually fucking each other). This year however there's 16 fics more tagged with bottom!phil than top!dan, which shows that there's been a very specific interest in writing and tagging bottom!phil in the last year.

Here you can see the total amount of phanfics written by year because I already collected the data, so I might as well put it here:

Stats 11/2023 - 12/2024

Now I want to take a closer look at the past few months post hiatus.

You can see that there's been a steady increase in the total amount of fics written per month!

That's incredibly cool!! (Love to all the wonderful writers out there <33)

Before we get into the actual stats, it's important to note that we're working with very low numbers here, so don't be fooled by overinterpreting percentages in the first few months depicted and look at the actual numbers! In the diagram below I excluded September and October 2023 because there simply wasn't enough data to produce useable results.

Contrary to what I expected, the increase in fics tagged with bottom!phil does not coincide with gamingmas 2023 (pour bot hem and top bunk kind of guy), nor phil's birthday live stream (topped by kakuna) but only really starts in June 24 and spikes in August for reasons I'm not fully sure about.

If I had to pin it on one thing it'd be the precious baby angel picture, which was posted in mid August.

Much more likely is though that this was simply a dynamic that built over months and had a wide array of reasons mentioned above and could very well be a self-reinforcing dynamic of more and more people looking for that tag and also writing for it.

If anyone has more insight on this, please share your thoughts :]

this one about family stuff. to be clear: these are some theories ive had, and they probably will be made null and void by future chapters. (though the more data ive collected to throw this post together is just solidifying these way further into my mind. they just make so much sense.) but thought i'd share them anyways!!!!

so. i believe grian and jimmy's parents are these three individuals. florencia and sparrow are grian's mom and dad (sparrow is the only avian mutant listed in the parent references, and florencia's design is very purple and we keep seeing doodles of her that just feel very watcher-y and ominous.) and canary is jimmy's mom (i mean come on her name is CANARY)

grian states in chapter 9 that he and jimmy are cousins when jimmy refers to the pair of them as "the great witch brothers," but then in chapter 16 they seem to refer to the same person as "dad."

aaand here are a few doodles from the parent reference image post that i think are of note

SO. MY THEORY.

sparrow and canary are siblings. sparrow at some point had a kid with florensia (but i think they probably split up pretty early on). canary was a single mother, and she and sparrow teamed up to raise grian and jimmy together. meaning sparrow is teeechnically jimmy's uncle, but he just calls him dad. and i dont think grian has ever mentioned his mom in any of the comics?

and like it could also be that sparrow and canary are a couple instead of siblings... but both of them having bird names and jimmy and grian being cousins makes me think that they're both single-parent siblings who raised their kids together.

NOW THIS LEADS INTO MY SECOND THEORY

yeah the brain is working overtime today

so, assuming that florencia is grian's bio mom. for her power it's listed that she's a prophet.

now based on the other parents and who they correspond with (and i think this was mentioned in a worldbuilding post) powers are genetic. like, tango's dad is a fire elemental and his mom has red eyes. jimmy's mom is an empath, which matches up with jimmy's powers of mind reading.

now grian has avian mutations from his dad, but. not really anything obviously from his mom. he can heal super fast, but i dont really think that being able to tell the future translates into speed healing very well.

AND THEN.

in chapter 14, when gem is questioning grian about if he has any other notable mutations, both he and mumbo get VERY visibly nervous. and he brushes off the question by going "uh duh i've got wings"

i didnt notice this my first few read-throughs of this chapter, but now that i have noticed it i think it is very much so obvious that he is hiding something.

almost like... grian has a secret third power... that he doesnt want to reveal to anyone...

Overanalyzing the extrajackets in the pilot locker room scene

With background characters they tend to be really inconsistent with numbers, especially with the pilot since so much wasn't set in stone yet but it's still fun to try to guess who

The numbers do help a lot. I looked around online and found that other people were able to cross reference the numbers 16 and 18 to Gen and Melissa respectively with the pictures below. Melissa is a little tricky since she was more of a rotating character until Jenna was cast and she was given lines in S2, but the physicality is similar enough to comfortably say that's her

The girl on the back left is the hardest since I couldn't find anything about number 12. We can see her again in the pic below.

My theory, that's Robin. She's the closest we get to 12's appearance. Also out of personal interest, here's a girl who looks similar next to Gen at Doomcoming

Anisa wasn't cast until S3, which is also when Robin was given her name. I think if we can cross the unnamed blonde extrajacket to Melissa, we can do the same with Robin

A secondary possibility is that it’s Crystal. She would also match that physique, and also doesn’t have a canon number, but I lean just slightly on Robin since Crystal is shorter (or they put her in the wash before leaving)

Or I'm overthinking all of this and they're just randos meant to fill in space until they became more important later and got permanent castings, but I like this because it creates continuity through those shifting characters. It also answers a complaint from early S3 which was "where did Robin even come from? Where was Melissa?"

While we're on the subject, one of my favourite random fun facts about oliver is that he works with a charity that takes care of firefighters' health. He pays for their workout equipment for example. ...it's hard for me. because I came out of the NCIS fandom (into the 911 fandom, I mean) as someone who joined in at 19, and fell in love with Michael Weatherly. I loved the show so much that I enjoyed the features on the DVD sets (yes, I'm showing my age, but shut up 😂), and I remember him specifically talking about how the show used to be a popular thing for people of a certain age (read: people in their 30s and 40s), but by s8, 9, 10, people had been watching the show so long that their kids had grown up on it, and now these 15, 16, 17 year-old's were into the show as well. 911 is nearing that area, and we also have the issue that those who create for the BoBs are often sharing stuff that suggests the two are together without actually confirming that it is in fact a fanon ship. so then you have young people entering the fandom, seeing what they're reading as queer storytelling that simply hasn't been acted upon, only for characters like Ana, Marisol, and Taylor to come into play and frustrate them. But at the time, that's okay, because they're all women.

Like, it's not lost one me why all shit went to hell in a few weeks back in April 2024. for an entire class of fans of this show, buddie was always the answer. even when Tommy was first brought in, it was celebrated because "holy fuck, Evan Buckley is canonically bisexual. they finally pulled the trigger!" further, as a fandom member (and especially if you're in the "other" fandom, as I so lovingly refer to them), this is a pawn you have to play. you have to have a bad hand that you lay down so that you can get in the door, right? someone you get to throw on the sword so that you can come out the other side and achieve the point of "we're here. we made it. now lets get down to real business".

except. people like LFJr. fans like Tommy. if you're someone like me, who was GA right up until then, you had no reading on buddie, never shipped it, but then came in with the pilot and said "let him stay, we like this one". OR, maybe you were already here, and you never shipped buddie. OR maybe you had shipped buddie at one point, but something about Tommy (or the toxicity of the other side, or a million other reasons), pulled you into this side of the fandom. either way, twice now, both GA and fandom have told TM & Co., we like Tommy and we like Lou, and we want him to stay. further, we like bucktommy, and we want to keep them. that's a big threat to those in the buddie fandom.

you know what's even harder to contend with?

when you're 19, and you think the love story you've been following for years isn't going to be given to you. I've said a lot recently, I was in the Ezria fandom. I did NOT like RG coming into that ship and disrupting things. (I didn't like any of the others either, but the spurious connection between both shows still makes me laugh). I was the 19 year old in 2012 when 2b aired for PLL that was like "Fuck you mean Ezria is gonna break up? that her parents won't support it?" let me be so for real too by telling you that I never watched PLL LESS than when they were broken up in seasons four and five.

I know I've taken this conversation so off the rails in a completely different direction 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 but I say it all to make the point that, I understand the BoBs. but that doesn't mean I support what they've said or agree with it. I definitely don't agree with the bullying, because I was never a part of that crap when I was watching PLL. ship what you want, absolutely. but keep it to the fandom spaces. your posts don't belong on OS, RG, or LFJr's instagram/twitter/bluesky, etc posts, telling them that you don't like one of them or that you think they should die or that you're coming for them.

also, kids, as an elder(ish) millennial, let me remind you that what you put on the internet is out there forever (or at least until a server crashes 🤣). maybe think about that the next time you wanna tell an actor to go off themselves (or that you're going to do it or them).

i saw a pb x cb post so i got curious, is it ok to ship them? i tried to find out by myself with searching but all the thing of pb being an adult but young adult/late teenager mentally and cb being a 10 year old but a mid teenager/late teenager mentally gets me a bit confused

im gonna use this post to talk about the characters ages again! (no shade to this person in particular, ive just been getting a lot of questions abt it recently.)

when discussing ages, a lot of fans refer to this post i made a while back:

i'd have no problems with this but a lot of people who use this image seem to disregard/forget the bottom paragraph? its mainly my fault for not being good enough while explaining, which i apologize for. but i want to use this to better explain what i meant here:

charger block and crown are NOT actual 10 year old children; when i say that they are 10 and 9, i'm saying that they have EXISTED for 10 and 9 years. even when they were 0 years old, their mannerisms and such were the same as they are today, and may even remain the same when they reach the age 500+.

for example, a character that was created yesterday is only a day old but they may still have the resemblance and maturity of an adult. this is how it worked for michael and sean: since their creations, they have always resembled adults. the characters in LOTS do not age the same as actual people do.

with this in mind, ever since their creations, cb and crown have always resembled teenagers! so while not real children, they're still a bit on the younger side.

so, use this for a better reference:

charger blocks maturity resembles that of a 16-17 year old.

crowns maturity resembles that of a 18-20 year old.

michael, sean, and pipe bomb are fully adults!

this does not mean that a characters mental age WILL stay the same forever, however! it's possible that we will see maturity in cb and crown as the show goes on; don't forget, theyre stuck with a job for 500 years!!! but for now, this is who they are.

so what about the actual question above? well, i anticipated seeing a ship of pb and cb rise after 1C. it's not one i exactly look forward to seeing like many others, so i'd prefer people take a different direction when it comes to that relationship.

and please please, if you see someone who enjoys the ship but is possibly unaware of the ages, DONT get upset!!! it's not their fault that they haven't seen a random post clarifying the ages that only 5% of LOTS fans see!!! if you want to, politely inform them. if they don't care, leave them alone and move on!! they wont change their mind as you won't change yours!!

so theres that! i hope this doesn't leave more questions than answers like last time, but dont be afraid to ask for further clarification!

Still thinking about how The Umbrella Academy gave us a couple that fully matched each other's freak, was fun but also had serious emotional stakes, and had so much genuine relationship conflict they could have easily explored that would have been interesting to watch them navigate and especially see them succeed at reconciling and instead of doing that in the last season they just tore that away for the sake of- I'm gonna coin a new term here- creating what might well be the world's first incidence of Cinematic Grooming. Yes, Aidan and Ritu aren't dating in real life, but they had to kiss on screen and act a whole romance arc. Yes, Five is "technically" much older than his body, but that is icky for the same reason "this 1000 yr old woman looks and acts like a toddler/8yr old" is icky in anime and I would argue considerably WORSE because those characters are fully animated pictures voiced by ADULTS. Aidan was like 15 when he started acting Five, maybe 16 when he met Ritu and started acting alongside her. She's in her 30s (and was at the start of TUA). The fact that they waited til the second he was 18 and then put him in a romantic pairing with an actress who worked with him directly as a minor is disgusting. We got to watch him be groomed via a fictional character and scenario that was fully dreamed up and forced by the twisted mind of Steve Blackman. Then you go back to season 2&3 and see the sexual references/implications they set up between him and The Handler and Lila which we all collectively were like, "okay, ew, but they're referencing things he did when he had a grown up body" (in the handler interactions case) or the extremely weird naked fight with Lila in season 3 where he makes it clear he has no interest in her (very much seems that is how Aidan and Ritu interpreted it by their acting) and you realize this absolutely was not a last minute decision. Steve PLANNED for this to happen since Aidan was a young teenager, they just weren't expecting David and Ritu to have so much chemistry and talent at acting that they would fully sell their relationship. It just drives me nuts. There was so much else they could have done with Diego and Lila's relationship even if they didn't end up together. Even if they wanted more angst of Five having feelings for Lila he knows she will never reciprocate due to his body and her love for Diego. They fully went OUT OF THEIR WAY to write that in. And the female writing just took such a nosedive overall that it really hurts looking back. It was such a good show with so much potential and they managed to MANGLE it in that last season so hard.
