caterina's datamined character description calling her korean-italian and early lucanis designs having him look east asian . i'll just do everything myself i guess

assorted thoughts: caterina is fully 'korean' or whatever the thedas equivalent would be in this design, and clawed her way to the top of the crow food chain after years of work. their armor is something caterina forcibly incorporated to distinguish house dellamorte from the other crows, and a symbol of their status because they get it custom made or imported. of course race-equivalents do not really exist in thedas or this world but i also will never forget how gaider just implied (east) asian people don't exist in thedas because it just so happens that there are no asians on the continent of thedas (guy who forgot about boats) . explode and die. there's not the same kind of discrimination as exists irl ofc (and the dellamortes are actually treated fine, much better than a mage or elf) but a level of xenophobia against foreigners from a different continent. illario looks the least like her, and passes for being fully antivan, which changes how he is recieved by the other crows.

and sorry if the korean is bad please actually let me know if it's horribly translated i relied on google translate . if you are one of ten asian dragon age fans feel free to talk to me at any given moment.

Holy shit it’s been another year????? The hell?????

Also! Your art style is gorgeous and that being found in 2023 and then refined throughout late 2023 and the entirety of 2024 really shows, as does your growth in panel layouts, perspective, and — as you said — experimentation. If you ever post your animation or video game art I’m looking forward to it.

As cheesy as it sounds, being able to laugh at funny comics and look at all the details of your art really made my 2024 brighter, even when things were hard. Including looking at your older art— it doesn’t need to be new to be enjoyable! I’m glad your art is well loved and it’s a privilege to have been here since the (near) beginning. I hope you take care of yourself in 2025 and beyond!

Thank you so much for keeping up with my art journey throughout these last two years! Two years!!! I am baffled at how that feels both too long and too short!

Admittedly, my art summary didn't manage to capture the fact that I did a lot of comic layouts that I'm really proud of. I also drew more backgrounds and made some very detailed works (*Dungeon Meshi spoilers for these examples*).

The growth is lot more evident when comparing my 'best' comics of 2023 to 2024:

Sometimes the growth is vertical, sometimes it is horizontal - and damn, sometimes it goes out of sight into the Z-plane. But it is always happening!

sorry for still being on the PAX East ‘25 high, it’s the end of the month and I’m still processing that me actually going even happened in the first place >_<

genuinely not trying to brag or rub in people’s faces that I went or anything, I just. I just can’t believe that I was able to meet and talk to Failboat in person. I can’t believe that I met him around 20 minutes after entering the building on the first day while cosplaying one of his OCs and got mentioned on stream where he talked about how cool my cosplay was and how he considered meeting me as “one of the most honored moments he had at a con”. I can’t believe I got to see him and Jay’s Mario Kart Tournament live and directly contributed to a fan favorite stream gimmick and talked to JayMoji and had them both sign the Arson for Dummies book I made (I’m never getting over the “For Chi” /vpos) and GOD THIS EXPERIENCE WAS AWESOME. I CAN’T BE NORMAL AFTER THIS AND EVERY SINGLE FOLLOWER OF MINE HAS TO DEAL WITH THE CONSEQUENCES /hj

We’ve reached a point in media consumption where 9 times out of 10 instead of seeing people approach a piece of fiction asking “what story is this trying to tell me and how effectively is it telling it?” we see them approach it asking “what story do I want this to be telling me and how many ways has it failed my preconceived standard?”

And I just think that’s a real fucking shame.

Make more transfem characters, have some transfem headcanons about a character you like or find interesting, make it part of an AU whatever. Normalize the idea of trans women in narratives, that transwomen and their stories hold a space in society, that they can be seen and loved just as anyone else. 💖

Day 14: Inspiration

Talking about my inspiration makes my brain feel bad, but I got the balls for this one. Tokyo Ghoul ended up accidentally being a big source of inspiration for Primrose Path's story and a handful of the characters in it, so consider this an AU doodle!

i am not returning to this blogs mid-life state of being a topical discourse blog like i won't be constantly posting about AI... just to make it clear

but i do find it distressing that people will twist seeming innocuous arguments to defend ai like 'oh its ableist to be anti-ai'

what the fuck are you talking about? deaf music composers exist. blind painters exist. there are people who draw with colored pencils held between their toes. people who use up all their spoons finishing a crochet project that took them months. people who have thrown water balloons at canvases to depict what it's like to live with physical, mental, and emotional conditions. people whose shaky line work caused by their chronic fatigue actually emphasizes the emotional tension of their work.

maybe this is an issue of what art is valued--maybe you don't value art that is seen as less skillfull, less intentional when made by disabeld artists. maybe you are talking about that being a larger issue but that isn't resolved by just... letting computers do it instead

who are you talking about when you imply that disabled people cannot create art? who are you to devalue the art that disabled people have already made? like?

and then who are we all to say okay if you can't make something, it's okay to just steal from anyone who can do it? what if i told you generative ai also stole from disabled artists? generative ai is used to replace commissioning artists, including artists who use art commissions for income they cannot otherwise make, as disability makes other employment difficult or outright impossible

is that ableism?

like... what structural oppression is happening in opposing generative ai which destroys the environment on a scale no other computer usage reaches? what structural oppression is happening in opposing programs that are made to eliminate EVER paying artists for their labor? what structural oppression is happening in opposing the ACTUAL slave labour used by these generative ai companies?

if we're whipping out terms about structural oppression... generative ai a more likely tool of oppression than opposing it
