Hi, I'm an ex swiftie and I have so much to say about taylor swift. I have a lot bottled up inside and this felt like a safe space to get it out. I hope you don't mind.
I feel like taylor as an artist doesn't have an identity of her own anymore.
like billie, lana, sabrina, ariana, beyonce, shakira, britney, avril, olivia they all make a specific type of music. Although many of them have made genre bending music but It's common knowledge that not everything is for everybody. Now this is where miss swift comes in.
she was going great with her first three albums but then the shift from country to pop to alternate to pop again and now whatever the hell the toilet paper department is supposed to be has lost her off the rails. Her albums are more suitable to her boyfriends than herself.
red- jake gyllenhall ( indie record that's much cooler than mine) but red is actually a very cool indie record
1989- calvin harris (or one could say harry styles), he is known for making upbeat electro pop music
folklore, evermore- joe (listening to his interviews and the type of intellectual, introverted personality he has, not to mention he actually worked on the albums himself with her seems like the type of music he would listen to).
and TTPD about matty healy ( which is not the most flattering album)
her dating life isn't about her finding a soulmate or true love. It's about finding a temporary muse. she sticks to them like a leech and sucks until she's done and then moves on to the next victim.
I was actually very excited about midnights because it was painted as her "seizing her own identity" and "returning back to pop" especially with anti hero, lavender haze, mastermind and yoyok I felt like this time it was about her and her demons. not some villain in her life. It felt refreshing after her constantly victimizing herself. I loved the stupid "I'm the problem, its me" thing.
Now, after every breakup, her latest ex boyfriend has to pay the price for breaking poor little taylor's heart. But since she had been with joe the longest and during that long period of her time, she never said anything bad about him, put him up on a pedestal, she was so in love and content that we, the audience who have been with her journey with her numerous boyfriends felt like he was the one. he's the best one. there are no more problems. but then this does not last either. At first neither of them revealed the reason for the breakup. which was fine and it probably should've stayed that way because when taylor started to reveal more about it, that's when things started to go south for her
she tried to paint him as the bad guy. like he was such a terrible boyfriend, he didn't want to marry her because he was depressed boo fucking hoo. being depressed is not as big of a crime as she tried to make. It also doesn't help your image when you confess to emotionally cheating on the alleged love of your life about a fucking nazi.
Miraculously this time taylor didn't get away with it. She didn't get to date the nazi. so she proceeded to throw a tantrum on her latest "masterpiece" about how she hates her fans and she's so miserable and depressed. again boo fucking hoo. dragging old drama with kim and kanye out of which she came out the winner but also dragging their child into this?? (like what did the kid do to you?)
I hate how everyone conveniently forgot that taylor dated connor kennedy when he was still a minor (she was five years older than him) and immediately after his mother died, bought a house in his neighbourhood to get in his circle and crashed his cousin's wedding and when the groom's mother asked her to leave, she ignored her??(what kind of psychopathic behaviour is this?)
Not to mention the lack of support for palestine, after wanting to be on the right side of history, per formative activism, fake feminism, stealing candy from olivia who's like half her age or something, using sabrina to rub salt on her wounds, blocking charlie in the uk charts, and now trying to re-write history like "I wrote folklore and evermore alone on the phone with aaron and jack" Does this woman ever stop?
She lost a lot of respect with that one. The excitement i felt for midnights is gone. she hasn't changed, she will never change. But I'm tired. I can't keep up with her anymore.
Now what's going to happen? I'll tell you what. she and travis will break up and then she's going to drop another "masterpiece" and bitch and moan about how much of a terrible boyfriend her was. And its going to be in the genre that travis likes because taylor doesn't make music about herself, always about her boyfriends. She's not going to grow up. But I have. I can't put up with her anymore.

hate brigade? I'm sorry but joe alwyn is directly responsible for a lot of the mental hurt that taylor will have to deal with for the rest of her life. I don't understand how people can hear sll, half the songs on midnights not to mention the anxiety ridden lover album and not see the emotional gaslighting joe was putting taylor through! Like that takes a toll and fans qnd the general public alike has a right to call that out. Now he's saying ish about tayvis when none of this concerns him?? Like if that's not manipulative, my name is Bennett cuz he's literally re inserting himself into the ex he resented' life. Unhinged if you ask me. So I don't think it's fair to characterize people as doing the most in this case. Alwyn could have just kept quiet and ate and ate food but now he deserves the dragging. Peace.
wowww wow okay so a couple of things:
we don't know much about their relationship. all we have is speculation based on taylor's lyrics, but we have to remember she is an unreliable narrator, so at best we can take them with a grain of salt. that is excluding how she might have modified certain things to present herself in a favourable light. I'm not saying she did or didn't, but it's a possibility. I say this because of how she's written music about her cheating. She very obviously focuses on how she was feeling and what led her to cheat, rather than her considerations of how it would affect her partner, which I think is yet another manifestation of how she perpetuates her victim narrative. I'm not saying all cheaters are villains, there's definitely some complex emotions involved, but she writes in such a way so as to encourage the reader to root for her by default.
This plays into her desire to be seen as the underdog or hero that everyone wants to support. She did this with Miss Americana too where she spun this whole standing up for women and other marginalised groups narrative, which I think contributed to being a swiftie becoming a trend, along with her whole 'relatable' schtick, fostering personal relationships etc.
There is nothing wrong with liking her music (I'm not gatekeeping), my issue is with people who treat becoming a swiftie as some girl scouts patch to earn by ripping into her 'enemies,' most popularly her exes. Naturally, he has been put through hell on social media since the break-up, up till ttpd dropped and the attention shifted to matty instead.
I agree that many of her love songs from as early as lover are anxiety-ridden, but I think that speaks more to her personality rather than his actions. Certain events may have transpired and he might have acted in a certain way which made her feel insecure etc but we have no reason to think he did it maliciously. What we do have is reason to think this is extremely unlikely. 2016 was rough man, no one knew if she would ever recover from #taylorswiftisoverparty, and yet he still stuck around. To me I think that shows he genuinely cared about her, something taylor has also thought.
Could you elaborate on the emotional gaslighting he has done, (and hence the "mental hurt" he has caused her) keeping in mind all those other reasons why her music is not an accurate source of info ^^?
getting more specific with sll, I don't see how he did anything wrong? I don't want to get too much into it but I know what it feels like to be burdened by someone else's mental health issues, and I do feel irritated by it at times, even though at the end of the day I know it's something they can't control. There's nothing wrong with creating art about difficult emotions, but I think she did not need to release it for the whole world to hear, knowing that they know who she is talking about. The song itself isn't too egregious, she just expresses her frustration with the whole situation ("you'll find someone," "I'm not the one" -> even she doesn't blame him for anything let alone the emotional gaslighting you're accusing him of anon what are you on 😭) the main problem is when people like you use it to villainise joe. like explain to me what part of it shows his gaslighting
For context here is what the whole deuxmoi thing is about, taken from this post:

You can clearly see that he was expressing an opinion on what he thought was a private enough setting. How could he have known he was going to be overheard and it was going to leak to the internet and eventually reach taylor (if any of this ie even true)? She is his ex of 6 years and it's only been a year since their breakup, I think it's fine that he's still somewhat emotionally occupied with her. We don't know if he obsesses about her every day and since the London travis thing is pretty recent, maybe it was just on his mind that day? Also why does he have to keep quiet? taylor can write whatever she wants in her songs, I think he is more than justified to have a conversation in public. We have no reason to think he meant for this to get out or to "[re-insert] himself into the ex he resented' life," as you put it.
to end off, anon I really think you should touch grass (and I'm not trying to be condescending here) because it feels like you're blowing up select details out of proportion to fit the narrative taylor has created through her music. We don't know how accurate that narrative is.
#had to retype all this when I was almost done 😭#hope i didnt miss out anything#anon#ask#joe alwyn#tayvis#taylor swift#discourse

Margot Robbie didn’t even know Joe was dating thee taylor until ages, maybe even after filming wrapped? On MQOS so I personally find it very hard to believe he was bitching on set lol. I could imagine him maybe needing to take 5 or something and saying ‘sorry, going through some stuff’…. But I can only imagine that ~extreme reaction if it was only a minute after tatty 2.0 breaking lol. His whole thing is being chill, sometimes too chill for some people, and very professional. I can fully see him using words like cunt casually with his mates, but can’t imagine he’d be overheard saying it in his trailer or dressing room on the phone ever considering how Americans recoil at the word lol
Idk that was a long way to say I agree with you lol but from a pr perspective, if anything was “leaked”, true or false, it’d be better to play the narrative he was cheated on after being loyal and credited as “saving her” in 2016 - unless he had skeletons in his closet that would prove otherwise lol. It’s pretty remarkable the shit he DIDNT pull (not surprised considering what we know about him), but especially after the hate train when she got with matty, any hinting that she in fact cheated and allegedly ended it over email (probably a really long one too so imagine reading that lol) - like if Joe were more like Calvin, who reacted publicly, the shit storm would’ve been soooo messy
Cheers to Joe being classy, and smart for not putting his shit out there lol
I mean I don’t think he was broken up with over email because that’s another very weird rumor and the origins of that have never made sense to me because Patient Zero was a Swiftie who goes to NYU and while I have no doubt she is friendly with or shares friends with Patrick Alwyn I’m not even sure Patrick Alwyn himself has exact details on how that breakup went down lol and I can’t imagine he went around telling super random people what he *did* know. It just seems unlikely.
I agree though that had Joe wanted to cause a PR shitstorm he absolutely could’ve but like… he didn’t lol. He literally j chilled.
And again that’s PUBLICLY because I am almost certain he told his mates nasty shit about her and Matty - otherwise he's a Saint and I don’t think he is - and he may well have eye rolled about Travis. But his mates are very protective tbh? So I doubt they share those thoughts. And also I genuinely imagine they would be NASTY and there are almost definitely specific things he’s bitched about rightly or wrongly but what I cannot imagine is self burns even where both parties actually were to blame. Like an example I gave was I can imagine he bitched about her drinking but that would’ve then been about her drinking lol not “we drink together and we fight” yk? Joke is I can even imagine him bitching about the marriage thing from his end and saying they couldn’t because of the tour and what a bitch she is for always picking her career over their relationship because again everyone has their own version of what happens and people tend to see themselves as the hero and the other people as the ones to blame.

I don’t know why maylors think things would be better a third time around. The GP still hates Matty. Tweets go viral every day calling him a Nazi or a junkie or both. Especially if this round 3 were to follow up Tayvis, a by all accounts beloved pairing, Matty would get skewered yet again. Taylor’s fame has actually only gotten bigger in the last year. Trust it would be just as bad. Maybe worse now that dropped an album airing his addiction which wasn’t a main focus of the hate last year.
I also think people underestimate how much 1975 fans would recoil at Matty dating someone who frequently behaves in complete opposition to his ethos regarding the environment and how you should treat your fans.
Yeah, idk that the last year has made anything better for matty and his public image. I’d imagine that this level of attention on him again a second time would only make things worse. I remember a specific day last year, when they were together, when random posts of mine from months prior, just gushing about how pretty he looked onstage, were flooded with hate comments about how he should OD. And swifties were reblogging my fics only to call him racist and Islamophobic. As if they couldn’t hate on him in the privacy of their own blogs. Which as a woman of color and a Muslim…..ooof that was tough. Ended up crying in the woods (no joke) by the end of the day cuz it all got so overwhelming.
I don’t wish to go through that again. Or wish for anyone else to go through it either. And the whole peanut thing….the backlash hurt HIM.
It’s ultimately how love life and I don’t think he should make decisions based on what anyone else wants but himself. But yeah it was a dark time last year.

Not to alarm you (and not sure if you have already seen) but Brad Troemel (look him up he is known for his work with performance art and generally being a troll - and also has produced commentary on “parasocialism”) is working with Matty to write and create the upcoming SATVB tour. He has recently been interacting with fans in the 1975 subreddit asking them for lore and info regarding the band/members. He has started creating a sort of drawing with a lot of references and inside jokes within the fandom.
The reason I am telling you this is because someone mentioned Ao3 and he responded to the comment asking “what types of fan fics were people writing?”. Mostly everything he has commented back to fans on within the thread he has incorporated into the picture so far… so it’s not looking good for fanfiction authors/readers 🫠🥴😂
On top of that, I have a looming feeling that fans are feeding into the ideas surrounding parasocial behaviour exactly as he and Matty have planned/hypothesised - as fans are basically divulging all this info about matty and the band when in reality the constructed images we have of the band members are exactly that - constructed… as we don’t actually know them. Although, fans should be allowed to enjoy and engage in the lore surrounding the band itself, when the line between art and artist becomes blurred (as it definitely has with matty being matty) things become more complicated. I am inclined to believe that Matty hates the responsibility of being a perfect, intellectual, liberal activist which many fans of artists (swifties are an obvious example) now uphold them to. I feel like that is why he purposefully pushes that label away from himself by openly acting in a way that may be controversial. Despite this, I do believe that matty feeds into this behaviour and it looks like he is going to explore it with the upcoming show which should be interesting 👀
God don't I love when something addressed to me starts with "not to alarm you".
This isn't against you in any way but dear god this gets a massive air wank gesture from me. I am marginally aware of what's going on on Reddit and can I just say I don't care? Like I don't. Care.
I don't write fanfiction for them specifically, I write it for myself and for whoever else happens to stumble upon it and is curious enough to actually click on it. If that's Brad fucking Troemel and The King Idiot himself, how is that my problem exactly. I am not shoving it down their throats, they are going looking for it. Matty won't be the first nor the last celebrity to find fanfiction about himself on the internet. This isn't on me, it's on him.
That being said, if he decides that he wants to incorporate anything Ross-related from the stories he does find online, I'm sure no-one will be opposed?
God I so wish this was a normal band with a normal frontman who does normal gigs, sometimes. Fuck me.

while how did it end is clearly about fans, media, just everyone in general who's parasocial, I think that even if but daddy I love him is her enabling a bad person, it's also about her personal life and every fan in general. Like yes that song was probably made because of the bad guy and the people who called her out for dating him but swifties don't realise that she's literally calling out every single person who cares about her personal life, even if they do it in a positive way. She's not just saying "fuck the people who didn't want me to date a terrible person" she's also saying "fuck everyone who ever had a personal opinion on anything regarding my personal life" and that's what they don't get. They love to call us out that she made a "diss track" for people like us but actually she made it for everyone and literally spells it out in the lyrics. Like the "no you can't come to the wedding" or even the "I'm having his baby, no I'm not but you should see your faces" is about everyone she doesn't personally know who doesn't have any right to think about her personal life in any kind of way. Doesn't make the song less bad but I think this is so important but swifties obviously don't get that it's a call out song for them as well
no exactly. it's so funny watching swifties be like 'haha you hated matty and she called you out for being so parasocail!!' and then they just completely ignore that it calls them out, also how did it end also calling them out specifically too.

I disagree with this for quite a few reasons. The first is the album has the same exact style as Midnights, you can't say she's trying to escape the brand she developed for herself while rehashing the same sound she did for her last album (it also sounds just like the new 1989 bonus songs). The next is the songs where she is directing her energy at her audience are about how she's angry they didn't accept her relationship with Matty Healy who's a terrible person. The parts that are a fuck you to them are specifically about them not wanting her to date a racist shit head. And mind you she's still doing all the same gimmicks to get her fans to buy several versions of the same album and maintain that bizarre parasocial relationship she has with them. Not to mention she baited her fans to harass her ex Joe Alwyn because he didn't want to marry her, she knows the power she has over her fans and likes it. Taylor clearly still loves being Taylor Swift the celebrity, she just has a chronic victim complex and hates when people don't accept every bad idea she has (like dating Matty). So this talk about her trying to break away from the image she created is something I don't buy because nothing has changed. It sounds like Swifties not wanting to face the fact that the album sucks and projecting something onto it that isn't there.

I cannot stress enough how embarrassingly dumb this album is.

I can't deal with the two extremes at this point. I've seen some act like Matty is a godsend that never did anything wrong, because it was all an "act". I've seen the other side act like he murdered someone.
There is a middle ground. He might just be an immature asshole that made shitty edgy jokes. He wouldn't be the first. He won't be the last.
More than anything, and this is just my opinion, I feel like a lot (not all) of Swifties are upset, not because of what he said or did, but because he makes Taylor look bad and it calls her activism into question. Some of them seem to think liking an activist makes them an activist or morally superior.
This is probably all over the place, but that's kind of how I feel. Matty is an ass, as always. But Taylor was never an unproblematic champion of marginalized communities.
I think at this point, fans might just need to accept that maybe they aren't amazing people, and maybe it's okay to just like their music or...stop buying it. Taylor breaking up with Matty tomorrow won't make her a better person.
Sorry, that was longer than I meant it to be.
I actually love that my ask can be a place to vent and share opinions so no apologies needed for the length. But I agree, there are two extremes which kind of just seem to feed each other... and it's not constructive at all.
It also means that if you say something that disagrees with one extreme you are likely to be treated as the other. Though in this case I've gotta admit that I've seen more of it from the "hate matty" side than the defend side - though this could just be the side of the internet I am in.
And with that kind of mindset it means that people who are in the middle (which I think is the closest to the truth, not to idk pat myself on the head or anything) and recognise that Matty has fucked up, and that we should criticise some of his actions, while also maintaining that he is not actually racist/antisemitic/islamophobic/thedevil/etc... those people are being ignored. Or worse, they just get bunched with the other extreme side and called racists, white-feminists, and yknow the rest.
Not to mention that I do think Matty in his statement to New Yorker was onto something with how he said "let me get as close to X as possible, so you can see how good I am"... kind of like, look at me calling out what everyone else is calling out to prove how moral and good and worthy I am. When, in fact, all of those reactions are doing nothing because ultimately Matty (in this case) is actually not a racist, has stood for things that need standing up for, and is actually not actively harming people. Beyond hurting feelings of people online (?).
(and I guess here I understand the wish from some fans that he addresses things or apologises, but I can't speak on t1975 fandom account since I have not been a part of it for the many years they have been active)
Either way, to me it seems that people still have not learned to listen/read for themselves instead of reiterating the things they read without forming their own opinion.
@yallcantread has made a few really well written, well documented posts about this specific topic, which I would encourage people to read through.
#matty healy#taylor swift#if you want to vent and rant my ask is open af#i mean to anyone really#this is such a polarizing moment so idk

i'm literally just like ' this will probably be over in about two- three months. let her be messy.' lol but now that i said that, watch this relationship last for years lol. I do get people being upset cause i guess matty has done / said some pretty problematic things but for me personally, i just don't really pay attention to who she dates so i'm just going to choose to ignore this as much as possible and focus on her music/tour and not her personal life shenanigans lol
he's definitely said/done some shitty things (some are overblown imo but his racist remarks are NOT)... but yeah, i was able to ignore joe for years, matty won't be a problem. the biggest problem is that people will expect swifties to defend her choice to boink him, and the fans who use taylor as a political chess piece online are gonna be nasty about the fact that they shouldn't or can't. that's where a lot of the hate in my inbox is coming from.
so yeah, i wish taylor's wasn't doing this with matty specifically, but it's also a crash course reminder in why we can't really rely on celebs to reflect our beliefs or ethics or whatever. and also a crash course in how celebrities don't hold their friends to account the way people on the internet do (which i'd argue is normal) and why it's not realistic to expect them to do so.

So you are mad that people of colour and women are coming for Matty, the racist and misogynist?
No, I’m actually not, I don’t defend Matty for the misogynistic or racist things he’s said (the ones he really said, not the many ones that have been taken out of context), I’m mad at the swifties that criticize Matty for the way he looks, for his addiction and for basically anything he said that has been taken out of context.
Look, I am a woman of color but I have enough maturity to look past the surface, like, for example, I don’t agree with a lot of things Taylor has donde (ex: her carbon emissions, her white feminism, her lack of support in certain movements she’s supposedly part of, etc) but I also understand she’s a person and she doesn’t owe me anything, not music, not morals not anything.
With Matty; I have been q fan of the 1975 for a couple of years now and I’ve witnessed a lot of stupid stuff Matty has said, but I’ve also watched him grow, apologize for his mistakes and change as a person.
Mostly at mad at people (swifties) who feel that they can criticize someone for an addiction of the way they look, first of all, addiction is an illness, it has a genetic component and you can’t control it. This personally makes me so mad because I’ve had relatives and friend who’ve struggled with addiction to dr*gs and it’s so fucking insensible, people believe that because they are saying it online it gives them the right to say uneducated shit like “Taylor run his gonna rub his addiction to you” like if ir was some sort of joke.
And also, maybe I’m mad because were I live people don’t take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt, like, not everything is black and while, there’s nuances that people just don’t like to see. And that’s because it’s easier to hate than to educate yourself and admit you’re wrong (I’m not talking to you specifically dw)
Also side note, the rant was mostly about the way some swifties feel like they can dictate Taylor’s life as if she wasn’t entitled to her own decisions. The way they think criticize peoples struggles online is any sort of normal and also I was low key pointing kind out the difference between fandoms.
Anyways, you don’t have to agree with me, this is just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own 🫶🫶

on my second listen so here are my actual thoughts on TTPD:
The album got off to a shaky start sonically because the opening tracks are very reminiscent of midnights and I was just like "oh, god, not this again." I don't even hate midnights the way a lot of y'all do but I do honestly hope she moves away from this sound in the next album because I'm tired of it even when it's good, LOL. But the album definitely picks up, even though there are still songs I would make some production changes to. Someone described it as a love-child of midnights and evermore and I really like that description. This thing is gonna go CRAZY live on piano. I cannot wait for the tour to start back up again.
I've seen some people complain about the lyrics, but then the ones they quote as bad I disagree with because I'm the only correct opinion-haver and always will be, I suppose! Except the line about liking Charlie Puth -- the line in context is completely fine, I just don't care much for Puth as an artist, LOL. I'll need to actually get them in front of me before I say anything more, but all the promo of her leaving the glitter pens in the midnights room was right.
The leak I found was the black dog version, and considering the sheer fuckery on that song, I'm VERY anxious to listen to the other bonus tracks. It definitely feels like she cut this song from the standard because it's SO specific to her in a way that is not glossed over with metaphor. And it does make a lot of sense to keep the hottest goss on tracks that only the fans will really care about.
side note: a lot of the discourse going on right now from people who have heard the leaks is that "most of the album is about matty!" And there definitely are matty songs, don't get me wrong, but a lot of the ones I'm seeing being claimed for him are so obviously wrong it's shocking how you guys can call yourself swifties and forget BASIC shit about how Taylor has described joe and their initial dynamic. Hilariously, it's giving "reputation is about karlie kloss because joe couldn't have inspired such evocative lyrics!" -- whatever kind of person joe is IRL, he has such little stage presence and star power that people literally just forget what personality traits he allegedly has and re-assign them to matty because, for better or worse, matty has a very clear and public personality. but if this is gonna be the discourse tomorrow night I'm logging off.
I wonder, however, if many of the songs about matty are inspired not simply by the emotional intensity and the discourse around him, but by joe insinuating that SHE cheated on HIM when it's very fucking clear that he cheated on her and probably more than once. "guilty as sin?" seems to be insinuating she started feeling attraction to other men while her relationship with joe was on its last legs, since she asks if she's really guilty if she only IMAGINED fucking other guys and didn't actually do it. girl i've been there LMAO
EDIT: listening to the song again it feels more akin to songs like "gorgeous" and ESPECIALLY "high infidelity," since those are about leaving someone FOR joe because the current relationship is emotionally unsatisfying. The religion stuff towards the end also connects to songs like 'false god" -- so in this light, Taylor is reflecting on how, if joe cheated on her, is she herself also guilty? Didn't she fantasize about Joe while with someone else? The song ending on "Am I allowed to cry?" is sooooo brain-tickling.
so I gotta just wait for everyone else to listen to this thing huh

stop the nonsense really because NONEEEE of y’all know about these people’s personality 😭😭
ok but where this person is dead on is that people who hate Travis, same as people who hate/d Joe, are very weird. Specifically because we don’t know these people personally. What we do know is Joe and Taylor stopped working (fair enough), Matty hurt Taylor (horrible of him but Swifties were partially to blame there and I do think it would’ve naturally stopped working after some time anyway), and Travis seems to be making her very fucking happy (obviously this is real life so this may or may not be true in perpetuity but if it’s not that’s also ok and if it is they’re gonna… work on stuff… because I do not know a SINGLE PERSON married 20+ years who has ONLY EVER BEEN HAPPY and DESPERATELY IN LOVE. Not to say they ever wanted to leave, but tbh with all of them the thought apparently crosses their mind at some point and they did have to sort shit out to be proper happy again?)

I'm conflited about this whole thing. I believe she's been planning this collab for awhile but the fling with MH is still makes me unconfortable and upset with taylor. I think she'll get her number 1 and she doesn't need my support but i won't stick around for this one, sadly
I want to start this by apologising for taking so long to answer it. I always try to answer asks as they come in, but have been preparing for or in legal meetings most the day and wanted to give you respect by giving any response I have to this my full attention rather than a quick 'agreed' and that's it.
I definitely do agree with you that the Ice Spice remix specifically has me very conflicted, and have mentioned so here, on other social media I'm on and to my friends. And it's rough because there's a lot of nuance here.
Like on the one hand I do not want to take away any agency that Ice Spice has because she has every right to say yes to this collaboration, and as someone who hasn't listened to her music, I'm excited for her to get her name out there with such a big opportunity.
But there's always going to be a little voice in the back of my mind that's praying that this is still what she wants and she doesn't feel like she had to be silent at risk of losing opportunities or, given this collaboration seemed to have happened pre Taylor and Matty getting together, feeling like she signed up for something different than what she actually did. Now I want to make it clear that this is not me being like "Taylor is a heinous witch who is silencing Ice Spice", but we've heard from just about every artist in the industry over the years about how the industry is very good at coercing decisions and silencing clients, even in situations where career based anxiety is the main barrier. And I hate to say it, but given how Swifties have dealt with Taylor's missteps in terms of race issues over the years, but I cannot see a situation where Ice Spice says anything less than positive about this without getting mountains of hate.
I've heard a lot of people say that they think this is all a PR stunt to make Matty look good. While I unfortunately think it will have the added benefit of that, given how long this has been in the works for, I don't think that was the initial intention. But in some ways, that makes it worse for me. Like again, if Ice Spice is fine with all of this that is the main thing, but I just cannot imagine being in Taylor's shoes and respecting someone enough to asked them to collaborate just to date someone who did what Matty did to Ice Spice, especially so soon after, and I also cannot imagine being in Ice Spice's situation and not feeling uncomfortable at the circumstances this collaboration is now being released under. Like at least if Matty and Taylor had been a thing before the collaboration, I could feel more sure that Ice Spice was definitely down for all of this in context.
Ultimately though I've never been one for Taylor's remixes anyway so like you said, I'm happy enough to sit this one out or give it one listen and that's it, especially because I'm barely listening to Taylor's stuff atm (mostly just tuning in for the tour surprise songs each week and that's it).
As for the more generalised two extra versions stuff, I've always made it clear that I hate the idea of deluxe CDs that are sold after/aren't available at the time of the album's release date, but like that's just capitalism. Most artists do it and I don't have specific thoughts on it past the fact that I'm not gonna buy the new versions lmao. I do find it kinda weird that she's only selling it at her show for now but I imagine they just didn't get them mass produced in time and eventually it'll be sold in at least her store if not all stores and be put online. And I know people are clowning about Glitch and Paris not being on the CD, but I imagine she wanted to limit it to one disc and they were the least streamed songs. So yeah again, no specific thoughts negative or positive about that side of things.
When it comes to Taylor in general at the moment, I'm still very much in the process of figuring out how and if I want to go forward being a fan of hers. I've mentioned a few times that people of colour who I love have been threatened and attacked throughout this process and more and more tiktoks and posts are coming out to show that this is more universal than it should be and than I originally thought. Because of that, this is unlike anything I feel like I've been through in this fandom and has made me feel the most negative I ever have about Taylor, which anyone who was here in 2015/early 2016 will tell you, is saying something. I'm not going to go over all the ways I feel hurt and have changed how I engage in Taylor's content + feel like I'm here more for the community we've built than for her again, because tbh not only do I feel like I'm beating a dead horse at this point, but as a white person, I don't feel like my voice should be the loudest or most ongoing seeing as a lot of the talk about him has been in regards to the comments on race he's participated in and the ways that Taylor's fans of colour have felt let down over the years. In all honesty, I've only really felt okay to take up the space I have because fans of colour have impressed onto white fans that they want us to in this instance. But yeah I will just leave it with reiterating another ask I answered a few days back that overall, even if I ever do go back to being as big a fan as I was at the start of the year, it's going to take a very long time and a lot of healing to say the least.

This is not exactly about the Matty situation.
Just need to point something out -and i don't want to sound condescending or be all like "ugh, youths"- but i feel like a lot of baby swifties don't remember how bad 2016 was for her, even before, when she was doing everything "right".
As loved as she is now, she understands how fast the public can turn on her.
She's not untouchable.
But i feel like that comes with a sort of "idgaf" attitude... because she knows how fame, social media and reputation are something to be played with, you know? Cause they're all bullshit. That's how I perceive it.
At the end of the day, she's just a person. A very privileged one that wrote my favorite songs, and I love more than some family members, but just a person. She doesn't owe us perfection or being a good role model.
She's just gonna be and it's up to every single one of us to decide if we can support her or not. Same with everyone else, artist or not.
when i was growing up (specifically throughout middle school), it was trendy to hate on taylor swift, to make fun of her for having so many exes, etc. and like.. in retrospect, maybe we should've been focusing on the older man taking advantage of such a young girl and Not condemn the girl herself, but that's a different topic for a different day.
anyway. i agree that taylor is very well aware of how finicky her reputation is perceived in the public sphere (specifically among people who aren't fans of her/indifferent to her). but i also think she knows how large her fanbase is and how a majority of them will love her no matter what she does. at a certain point, she does sort of become "untouchable"
but yeah. taylor is super famous, but at the end of the day she's a person and people can be disappointing sometimes. it opens up a very interesting conversation about idol worship, in that we need to stop putting celebrities on pedestals they have no business being on just because they're celebrities

dude I just wrote out a whole long ask about the Black Dog and the Tumblr app ate it. I'm annoyed. TLDR I'm so glad we have this blog, because while maybe 30% of the interest in a song comes from Taylor's life and who the muse is, the other 70% is in the incredible art she creates, and the feelings she captures in her lyrics. I wrote out a beautiful thing that I'm so pissed that Tumblr deleted, but essentially I can't believe that so many Tumblr Swifties AND reddit Swifties are all about muses analysis or dick powered jukebox and trying to convince others of their view, when really it's like, what about that feeling when someone you loved screws you over so badly you want to set fire to everything you used to use to identify yourself. I'm trying to move on, but you're inadvertently piercing holes in my heart. I will never open up to someone else the way I did for you. Old habits die not only screaming, but rattling their chains. Do you really not miss me? Do I really not cross your mind? You convinced me you were strong enough to stand with me, and you convinced me I needed you. God, you must hate me. God, you must not think of me at all. You slinked off and never have me a second thought after that. You used to share everything with me. We used to share a magic dreamland together. I hope you're aware of every single bit of pain you caused me. I hope it's shitty in the Black Dog.
Idgaf if it's about Matty, or Joe, or Jake, or fuckin Alexander Skarsgard (I made this point so much better in my original ask)!! I love this song and I love what this song means to me and I am so grateful for Taylor the artist. I'm not discounting the gossip part of it at all cuz God knows I love this shit but I really feel life Swifties did TTPD a disservice by being like "it's about Matty, ew, next". Like shit, pretend it's fictional!
See, this is something I strongly agree with and feel very passionately about across HER WHOLE body of work. Firstly, because as much as very specific incidents DO inspire her, I don't for one second believe that the exact events directly = the song. I think the *feeling* she experienced is what inspired the music. And that's why folkmore is so good, because that's what that boils down to - NBNC is a silly song right but it's also a topic Taylor understands emotionally and feels passionately about: revenge on bad men who she feels deserve it. But while it's most obvious on folkmore, there's elements of that in all her work. As funny as it is to joke about how OCD it is of Taylor to say "we can leave the Christmas lights up till January" like... realistically Taylor's staff sorts that out lmao so it's more about the vibe of "this is our place" than Taylor taking Christmas decor down on 10 Jan. And this is true for TTPD. Like yes, it's about what happened to her (so.... Matty) but it's also about all the feelings you talk about. I think, perhaps, that's why it's not really my favourite album of hers. Idgaf about it being about Matty but nothing quite like that's happened to me lol (sorry to Tay that it did to her, seems hella shitty) and the reason she's my favourite artist is that I apply her songs to my life and connect to them really strongly. I like music *I* connect to. Obviously not only music I connect to, but for the most part like if I'm listening to heavily lyrical music, I like to be able to connect to it personally idk. And I *will* say when I was going through my last serious breakup, I would've LOVED SLL. I fucking wish she had more like that because that whole "you'll find someone, I'm not the one" and even "and I'm pissed off at giving you all of that youth for free" stuff I *do* connect with. I've never hated someone I dated enough for TSMWEL lol and I'm not sure I've been sad enough about someone for The Black Dog lmao but I do think those are also great songs? When I was in my chaos era in my early 20s I def felt very ICDWIABH like "I'm so depressed I act like it's my birthday - every day!!!" idk. Anyway, I do think the beauty of Tay's music is in the lyrics and connecting to those lyrics and while the biographical stuff is interesting it's not (for me) the point.
It's also like why I personally prefer The Beatles to The Rolling Stones (although I like both) because The Beatles - especially the early stuff - wrote a lot of things semi-autobiographically (I don't think the Stones ever really did but I've never read a Mick biography so maybe but the songs are so vague that I don't really think so?) but it's about the VIBE. Like shit would happen to them but then they'd distill it into a vibe.
