Something something Fitzjames and Hodgson are two of the most dandy-ish characters in The Terror but they're also two of the most dangerous; they've both been to war, both do the greatest damage to Tuunbaq using the weaponry they were trained in by the navy (Hodgson with the cannon and Fitzjames with the congreves), and Hodgson is also the one to kill the Inuit family, directly connecting the violence of imperialism with the gentlemanly facade it likes to use.

Hi so in case anyone was dying to know, this is what i think some of the cast of the terror would look like as animals :3 notes under cut

From left to right:

Crozier- Irish Terrier

Silna- Polar Bear

Goodsir- ryeland sheep (known for tasty mutton ;3)

Hickey- red fox

Franklin- old english game rooster

Fitzjames- red deer

I had fun coming up with them :) and I kinda wanna doodle some screencaps but with like a lil short sheep goodsir and his bestie the giant polar bear lady silence whom he thinks would love England. Or like hickey on his bullshit but with more flair bc he would have a fox body and tail to really fuck up that line of action

so i rewatched episode 3 last night. and anyway it’s a lot of fun watching it through a fitzfranklin shipping lens.

man the scene where Francis comes back into the cabin following Sir John’s death is one of my faves.

it’s just. almost comedic that everyone seems highly uncomfortable with James openly crying

Blanky looking at Francis and then side eyeing over to James, like please Francis do something about this hysterical bitch.

and poor James, he really feels like he’s the only one who’s actually grieving his daddy Sir John

Asking someone to eat your body so they and the people they are responsible for don't starve to death in the barren wilderness is probably one of the most romantic things I can think of superseded only by Crozier refusing to do it and also insisting Fitzjames be buried well enough that the others can't dig him up if they find him.

HELLO???#but also. i wonder if fitzjames' final thoughts were that at least he'd be able to keep crozier going a little longer in death #and like. crozier burying him probably Is keeping him going longer than eating him would have #carrying the whole and unsullied idea of james inside himself taking the place of necessary physical sustenance #how hope keeps them going even in the worst conditions. love.#anyway.
