okay so i got a really weird anon the other day and, after chewing on it for a while, have decided to put this on the table. i will not be answering the anon because i feel it would not be beneficial nor helpful to anyone in the slightest, and am instead putting my thoughts here:

easy co. was a real company. these people were and are real people. band of brothers, the pacific, and masters of the air were not solely created to satisfy what a fan would want in a series, it also serves as dramatized documentation of what real people went through.

the fact that all people shown in these shows are real people leads to a strange surrounding of ideals that they can only be worshipped, not criticized on the basis of modern day ideals.

which is true, and always will be: historical perspective in all things is required to better understand the past and the world around you.

but when it gets to the point that you can take well thought out criticism and turn it into an attack against a favorite war blorbo of yours; willing to send anons or get overly distressed over a well thought out argument or even just another fan stating one of their ideas, that’s when it’s time to step back.

it’s important to realize that these men were all men in the 1940s. they had layers, beliefs, and thoughts that may not line up with those of today.

people addressing this is not disrespectful.

people stating that made them uncomfortable is not disrespectful.

bigotry in all forms was, at times, mentioned, used, or talked about by these veterans, and it should not be ignored on the basis of preserving the memory of a real person as a perfect individual when no such thing exists.

what is disrespectful is belittling or mocking what these men went through in the war; trauma is not, and never will be, funny. it is disrespectful to compare, call names, or say things about these men in regards to certain things: in band of brothers, comparing liebgott to a rat is one of the biggest one. that is disrespectful.

it is not disrespectful to be addressing certain things said in interviews or memoirs after the fact, surrounding race, gender, politics, or more.

people are complex, and jumping immediately to defending a man you never met or knew personally by sending hate, anons, or having a wildly overbloated reaction is not defending them. it’s just feeding into a perspective of a characterization of what people want a real person to be.

this goes both ways btw. hazel was more explicitly hesitant and reserved with her feelings but she always thought that frank was cute. something about that clumsy probatio knocking over every piece of equipment in the armory was just kind of hot I guess

it's so cute to me that frank had a crush on hazel since the beginning because what really was it that frank liked about her back then. like yeah she's nice and she's pretty and sometimes romantic attraction really is that simple but I like to think about how hazel was just so creepy and depressed back then. like she was passing out randomly (her blackouts) and trying to play it off like it was nothing and accidentally summoning gems out of the ground when she got nervous and screaming when people tried to pick them up because they were cursed and she wasn't getting anyone's modern references and she would have had old-fashioned gestures and sensibilities and she was trying her best to Act like a normal person whilst haunted nonstop by a pervasive sense of dread and alienation from those around her. she must have been So strange. she was masquerading as a Moden Alive Girl instead of the undead ghoul from the 1930s that she really was with enough emotional baggage to capsize a cruise ship

and frank was just kind of into that??? there must have been so many distinctly unnerving and bizarre aspects of that girl's behavior and he's just like Omg.... . her vibes are Terrible. god I want her

Hi I've been kind of angry with some things happening lately irl, which in turn have caused me to be unmotivated to draw (or. Physically incapable to draw.) </3 so I'm gonna take some time to cool off and fix these issues

thinking about rin having a girly girlfriend who's obsessed with adorable pastel-colored things .. he'd look so out of place inside your bedroom, it's filled with cute posters, mini and big figurines of sanrio and your favorite fictional characters, pastel colored clothes, and your bed has your beloved stuff toys at every corner.

his backpack would have cute keychains and plushies hanging on them, some were a gift from you and some are yours that you just wanted to him to have on his bag (your bag is heavy from all the keychains you have, plus there's no more space).

just imagine him looking intimidating and scary, but then you hear the loud clinking of pastel colored keychains hanging from his bag. he doesn't mind having them, sure it's a bit loud and distracting, but it prevents girls (and sometimes boys) from approaching, asking him for his number.

he calls it a repellent of some sorts.

and !!!! he also has a bracelet that you gave him, a pink colored one with an owl charm. if he has a clear phone case, then a polaroid photo of you (or the two of you) would definitely be in it. if not, he'd have a picture of you as his lockscreen, specifically a photo that you don't know about.

people who seem him for the first time in campus think “oh .. that guy definitely has a lover.”, and give up the motive of asking him for his name or number.
