just had the thought "i don't care if you're traumagenic or endogenic you're a system and that's all i gotta know"
to clarify, if you’re a system, well. you’re experiencing system things. so what’s it matter to me how it all started? there’s a bunch of people in there to be respecting
#singlet speaking#mythyk chat#system stuff#i can understand it mattering to the individual#it is also none of my business#(unless you want me to know and i'll accept/respect that)#(it's like how being queer is something you only gotta share if you want to)#(and what 'flavour' of queer that is)#this is to any system that feels obligated in any way to share about themselves#you don't have to#it's okay to not share personal information#i am not going into any discourse#in fact it may be a block#just a warning#reason i made this post: one of them emoji blogs makin 'emotes' about system source

After 2 months of TSAMS mental health no contact, I FINALLY start considering going back to gameplay/reaction videos, and apparently I'll hafta deal with the shitty company killing their love even more and them acting out by guilt tripping the audience?
Yaaaaay......
I can only speculate.
But Davis and Reed don't say "watch this video at 2x speed" on their MAIN channels and they are talking strictly for monotization reasons.
So I don't doubt the company made them say this.
I've never liked the company behind tsbs and I have never trusted them.
They are hands off in terms with how they want them to tell their story. Which is great. They have real creative control to do whatever they want. Which is the appealing part of the company.
But half the time I feel they have too much control when they are only supposed to build their status in the algorithm. And tend to go beyond their duties of what a company like this does.
Like yes. Davis and Reed were asked to do tsams and hired by them to do it. And the company tells them what games to play sometimes and what things are trending sometimes. And there are lots of NDAs involved and ownership of fan characters. Which is normal (but is technically not legally binding at all because Solar and Lunar are not legally distinct enough for them to not be sued by Scott if he willed it. However the Astrals and Earth would be within their right to claim as their own copyrighted character.)
But here's the thing. Davis and Reed are NOT obligated to do what the company says. The company is there to offer GUIDANCE. And to help smooth over problems on the business side of things.
Such as when Ironmouse's channel got deleted due to malicious striking. She called her managment to help deal with it because they can then handle it with Youtube so she doesn't have to do the legal shit herself.
But I never see Blackshore do that type of thing. As when Laes channel got deleted I heard no word from the company and to my knowledge Kat, Reed and Davis had to navigate the YouTube system themselves. but there could things behind the scenes they do secretly we just will not know.
GRANTED please take everything I say with a grain of Salt. Because in all likelihood I could just be talking out my ass and sharing my bullshit opinion online like so many other people. I do not know Davis or Reed personally and have no affiliations with Black shore Company.
But everything I see on their website is sketchy and so non specific. And the fact that they have a lot of young people working for them.
And the fact that they are a YouTube Management company, yet they tell their actors to say to watch gaming videos at 2x speed. When doing this actually tanks you in the algorithm and sabotages your own videos. Because it counts as less watch time overall which means less monotization. Meaning less money, making them think the videos are preforming poorly. When they don't really get any more or less views then an average slice of life vrchat episode or a joke episode where nothing happens.
And when they cancelled MASM, all the videos were marked as private for a long while. Which nets them no benefits to do so. Because it means no one can see the old videos meaning they can't gain revenue off of them. They must have realized this because Femnights made the videos public again.
Again, for a YouTube Management agency they seem to not manage well or know how the algorithm works so I don't know what they are doing.
Again. I am not affiliated with the company or know any of the actors personally.
I am just sharing my thoughts and I ask don't go out of your way to harass people involved in tsbs.
I can only speculate and hope that everyone working for and with tsbs is having a good experience and isn't being taken advantage of.
Just sharing my thoughts about Blackshore that I've been sussing out for awhile.

Nine Sols' narrative themes inform every gameplay element btw. if u even care.
saw someone call Nine Sols' gift sysrem for Shuanshuan "too dialogue-heavy" and "pointless" and I went temporarily insane
if the quest moments with Shuanshuan feel "pointless", it's because they are meant to be their own reward and you did them out of obligation!!! why!!! nobody was holding you at gunpoint to MAKE you raise this beautiful precious forgiving baby boy who loves you and nursed you back to health—but like a deadbeat dad on a custody visit just to be compliant with a court order, you spent time with him anyway and you resented him for it. WHAT!!!
also can NOT overstate how the games' themes of revenge and redemption tie into these scenes. they are not by ANY MEANS pointless!!! the way Yi goes out of his way to preserve his culture, by sharing it with the APEMAN he's raising, speaks VOLUMES about Yi's character growth in the 2 years since he and Shuanshuan began living together.
I was personally endeared by Shuanshuan immediately, and was delighted I had gifts to give him—AND that they each had bespoke cutscenes that revealed lore information about Solarian culture, and background information about Yi and Shuanshuan'a lives together?? do you guys know how rare and special it feels to have a gift system that WORKS like this??? SO many games give you garbage trinkets to throw at your companions for a quantifiable affection boost, so I cannot overstate how deeply impressive and heartfelt and dedicated to their story Red Candle Games clearly was to have put in the time and effort to make their gift mechanic so deeply character-driven, with custom animations and environmental changes for every skill you teach Shuanshuan. 🥺🧸✨️
if you don't like social sim elements in games, or the characters didn't succeed in endearing themselves to you, that's fine. They're not for everyone—but I suspect my experience was the intended one! you're supposed to like and care about these characters enough to bring them the gifts you find on your travels of your own volition!!
if you DON'T care about the characters, you can skip their scenes, and the game respects your time by LETTING you do that, AND by giving you an ending that is less involved in the characters' lives. but if you resent these scenes because "ugh i HAVE to do this to get the TRUE ending 🙄" then idk!! I think you are playing the game wrong!!
I think RCG gave players an opportunity to not care, and a perfectly satisfying ending despite it all (THE BETTER ENDING AND LESS EMOTIONALLY DEVASTATING ENDING, IN MY OPINION, BECAUSE RCG IS SO MEAN TO ME 😭), and if you passed that up for completionism's sake... IDK!!
I genuinely think achievments have poisoned too many games that don't benefit from them! Gone are the olden days of playing your big sister's SNES games blind—no online guides, no guardrails, just getting lost and wandering around the overworld, just playing by vibes alone and if you get stuck u just have to take a break and come back later instead of looking up a guide online because there wasn't even a GameFAQs page for it yet—but on GOD we need to get back there. Play games blind. Don't look up guides. JUST ENJOY IT, JUST ENGAGE WITH THE MEDIA, WE DON'T NEED INSTRUCTIONS I PROMISE, YOUR INNOCENT NASCENT FUMBLING IS ENOUGH, YOU CAN PLAY THE GAME AND HAVE FUN WITHOUT SOME CHODE ON "HARDCOREGAMER" DOT COM GIVING YOU A DISRESPECTFULLY SPOILERIFIC BREAKDOWN OF A PATH OR BOSS FIGHT OR ITEM LOCATION THAT ROBS YOU OF THAT JOY OF DISCOVERY!!
anyway. yes, if you forced yourself to sit through the dialogue of character-driven scenes for characters you didn't even like or feel compelled by, just to get the "True" end, then I imagine it would feel "pointless" and like "too much text". But failing to catch your interest is not a failure of the game's storytelling if you only disliked it because you were forcing yourself to do it for the achievment, just to get an ending that wasn't made with your play style in mind!!!
"it doesn't even affect the game's ending :/" *LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER*!!! ALL the sidequests have the CUMULATIVE effect of changing the ending! this is because Yi is a ruthless, analytical scientist deposed from his seat of political power in New Kunlun on a quest for revenge—yet he spent precious time doing a bunch of "pointless" sidequests for his friends he's come to care about, which allowed the villain's brewing plot the precious time it needed to come further to fruition. Yi is on a REVENGE quest, and it is the very act of saving Shuanshuan (thus alerting the island's security systems to Yi's presence) that puts a timeline on that revenge. He exposed himself for someone he cared about, putting his revenge in jeopaedy—and he postponed that revenge still further to make amends to the apemen he once thought so little of as to be complicit in their heinous exploitation!!! YI IS GROWING HE'S CHANGING, SHUANSHUAN CHANGED HIS HEART, AND IT'S ONLY IN THE TRUE ENDING YI CAN COMPLETE HIS CHARACTER ARC BY REALIZING HE FUCKED UP AND ACTUALLY REPENT (EVEN IF I HATE IT BECAUSE IT'S THE SADDEST ENDING, FUCK YOU RED CANDLE GAMES 😭)
also combat is focused around the parry because this game's primary thematic underpinning is giving proof to the age-old adage "fuck around and find out" (it's revenge it's about reVENGE IT'S ALL ABOUT FORGIVENESS AND CHANGE AND REVENGE)

Drabble-A-Thon Prompt 5
Pairing: Shigadabi
Rating: Teen
Prompt: From @dahvampire. Shigaraki is trying to play a new game when Dabi comes in and tries to annoy him, but he gets sucked in and Tomura tries to teach him how to play.
Contents: Mentioned gun violence against a child (in a video game)
The nice thing about both he and Dabi being incredibly independent is that the two of them have no qualms about not spending every moment of every day together, even when they don’t have work, treatments, or other obligations forcing them together or apart. They know when and how to seek each other out for quality time, and they know when they should leave the other alone and entertain themselves. Tomura thought that this would be an ‘entertain themselves’ kind of day when he came back to check on Dabi in the morning after his insomnia forced him from bed early, only to find that his firefly had already gotten up too, and that his workout clothes were missing. He hadn’t reappeared around breakfast, and Tomura figured that meant he wanted time alone. This was fine by him, because as much as he loves his firefly, they don’t actually have many hobbies in common that are completely outside of sex or work. Dabi reads a lot, always worrying that someone is going to notice that he has gaps in his education, and focusing on researching heroes. Tomura has done his fair share of studying and doesn’t return to that for fun, he goes to games. Especially now that he can have any system and play however he wants without his teacher or Kurogiri breathing down his neck.
He’s about an hour into playing the new RPG has been causing a lot of buzz when Dabi comes back into their room. He must have showered downstairs because his hair is wet and he smells like his soap and shampoo instead of smoke.
“Hey, firefly.” He expects his lover to get his book or phone and plop down on the couch beside him, but instead Dabi moves to stand directly in front of the TV.
“What are you doing?”
“Playing a game.” He says, immediately picking up on his lover’s attitude. Someone must have pissed him off, or he had a nightmare that Tomura wasn’t there to help with. Either way, he knows that Dabi is always angling more for a fight when things like this happen. “Come here, firefly.”
And the fact he’s willing to put down his game and give him the attention that he clearly wants is enough to make Dabi not want it anymore. He wants to start something, not be comforted or doted on, but Tomura is good about not getting into fights with Dabi when his mood is fluctuating like this. Besides, those fights aren’t even real. There’s no genuine animosity in them, it’s just Dabi looking to get them both riled up so they can have rough sex and the even softer aftercare when they’re finished which soothes the frustration and hurt feelings that made him lash out in the first place. Dabi still struggles to just ask for the things he wants, but Tomura will give them all to him anyway.
Dabi huffs and flops down on the other end of their couch, out of his reach, and pulls out his phone. “No. I’m still sore.” No he’s not. If he were, then he wouldn’t have gone to work out this morning, but Tomura lets him lie and pout. “I’m going to order curry for lunch.”
“Okay.” He doesn’t hate spicy food, but it’s not his favorite and Dabi always orders the spiciest curry that he can find. He’s not going to argue with him over lunch either, and he resumes his game. Dabi will either make himself enough of a pest that Tomura actually has to punish him for his behavior, he’ll burn himself out, or he’ll actually ask for the comfort and attention that he clearly wants and he can dote on him for the rest of the day. But until he decides how he wants to go about this, he’s going to enjoy his game.
Or he’s going to try to. Dabi sticks his feet right into his lap, making him misclick and lose his boss fight. “Oops.”
“It’s fine, baby.” Tomura says, shifting his hand to gently squeeze his ankle as the screen reloads. “I just hit a checkpoint.”
That only serves to make Dabi more obnoxious, of course. He starts playing news clips at full volume on his phone, shifting around on the couch, dragging his tongue stud over the staples on the inside of his cheeks to create a grating tinkling sound. He doesn’t pay him any attention. He keeps playing his game, getting up to the top floor and killing the villain who is holding the kid hostage. Dabi tries to distract him while he’s in the middle of the fight, but he doesn’t lose, getting past the boss, picking up his weapon, and going to find the little girl.
She comes out from underneath a table, excited to see a hero in person for the first time, and the character on the screen gets the order to kill her. Tomura has heard that the ‘villain’ track is much shorter and clearly the path that the developers weren’t that invested in creating, so he takes the order that the mock-hero agency gives and shoots the girl dead, though the game carefully cuts around the violence.
“What the fuck was that?” Dabi sounds genuinely curious now, sitting up from the couch a bit.
“What?”
“I thought you were a hero? Heroes don’t kill kids.”
“Not as far as the public is aware.” Tomura says.
“In games and shit.” Dabi counters.
“This is an American game. It’s inspired by a comic series and some cases about forty years ago where they found out that heroes who weren’t getting paid the ‘correct’ amount to save hostages would bump off or leave behind the ‘extras’.” The level finishes with a cut scene that shows that the PC was commended for his work, that people were sad he couldn’t get to the girl in time, but his public approval rating went up in the aftermath of the event.
The scene after that opens on the hub of the agency, and Tomura is able to put his points into his skill tree and pick his quirk: Fire, Ice, Mind Control, Super Strength, Super Speed, or Flying. Dabi is still watching over his shoulder so he asks.
“What quirk do you think would be good, firefly?”
“Wait, you didn’t already have a quirk? I thought it was like Snipe. Why did you have all those guns then?”
“It’s an American game, baby.”
Dabi rolls his eyes, but then says, “If you’re gonna be using people like pawns, you might as well go the whole way and take Mind Control.”
Tomura selects it, and then is dropped back into the gameplay, getting to see the different objectives and paths forward in the game. There are a lot of people to talk to within his agency, and he starts to move around the building and have different conversations with people.
“Wait, you can decide what to say?”
“Yeah,” he always got the sense that Dabi didn’t have any games growing up as a kid, even seeming confused when he and the others play simple racing or party games together when they’re spending time as a group, but he doesn’t mind explaining. If this can be a distraction from whatever is bothering his lover, then he’s happy to share it with him. “Come here.”
Dabi doesn’t protest this time, though he does tense a little when Tomura pulls him in close to his side and gives over the controller to him. “This is a role-playing game–”
“Oh you’re one of those players, I should have guessed.”
He nips Dabi’s cheek right above his staples in retaliation, but continues to show him where to rest his fingers. “I think there are romanceable non-player characters, but it’s not that kind of role-playing. It just means that you get to build your character and decide how they live in this world. Everyone who plays this game will have a character who is going to be a little different from another person’s. You get to talk to the other characters and that will change how they treat you in the future. RPGs are supposed to feel like you’re living through the experience of the game.”
“So you want to be a corrupted hero?”
“Know your enemy.” He wants to play this because it’s being banned in Japan, he wants to play it because it was banned on and off in America too. He wants to know if he should be having Skeptic online leaking and reposting free copies of it so that more people play it and find out what is so important about it. Media is one of the best places to strike at people’s beliefs. A game that focuses on the way that heroes have corrupted and broken this society could help them a lot. And he likes to play games. It’s a win-win.
As he shows Dabi how to navigate to their next objective, going to see a psychologist so he can be cleared for active duty again, and he hears Dabi mumble, “There’s no way that he wouldn’t be having nightmares after shooting a kid,” and selects the dialogue option that shows a flicker of remorse from their character, he knows that this may be a win on this front as well. He’ll take over for him during the fight scenes, but if this helps Dabi work through, or distract him from whatever was upsetting him earlier until he’s ready to talk, then Tomura will take this as an even bigger win.
Thanks so much for your support! If you would like to participate, consider checking out my ko-fi here!

MILLION DOLLAR BLOODLINE — Traición

Dealing with the case in hand, you come across with some valuable clues. Check my million dollar bloodline masterlist for general warnings.
Chapter 1 Chapter 2
pairing: Vampire/Agent Leon x Fem Detective reader
warnings: Sexism (from the press again) few mentions of gore and death, fucked up government, scent (First glimpes of Leon's vampire qualities yay)
author's note: hi... I'm writing this with one eye closed... exhaustion is taking over me and it may show in this chapter. as always, if you see any mistake, you don't. don't even perceive them. thank you so much and love yall.

“Thank God a man stepped in!”
A new headline, a new story being told. It’s rather frustrating to know that no matter what, reality would be twisted to the journalists’ desire and let the only person who actually cares about the case burn in the flames of depiction and hatred just for the ‘sin’ of being a woman.
The same shameless and brutal words are printed in a bright red that resembles the fresh blood of those leaders of the city. In many readers’ eyes and minds, they were expecting to finally see a man taking the case and bringing ‘success’ even though it’s doomed to fail.
No one grieves more than someone who has lost everything—but your right to fight is still running deep in your veins. With a grunt, you throw the newspaper on your desk, almost spilling the black coffee you were previously drinking.
It’s been less than a day since the candidate was found dead. The cause of death? Suicide which was, in a way, surprising. From the number of politicians who have “left this cruel world,” Mr Clark's scene of the crime gave enough proof that you were facing a real self-homicide case.
In front of you lay countless folders and confidential documents that the police department has collected from the first victim to the last one. The only obvious connection all of the victims shared was that all of them were Tier A individuals. People who wouldn’t disappear to find ‘the real meaning’ of life and would surely not kill themselves without a murder weapon.
So, even a rookie detective could surmise that most of those crimes were the smokescreen of something way bigger brewing in the shadows of the city. A city whose beliefs and faith in the government are so cracked now that not even the most nationalist citizens could find peace in their hometown.
A sigh leaves your lips, one that shows the tiredness in your system and heart. Sometimes, the feeling of walking in circles clouds your judgment and overall sanity. In hindsight, a detective ought to be a rightful and morally white person who would walk on fire just for the sake of truth and justice. But each time your eyes land on the atrocious clues you have gathered, the desire to throw away everything gets harder to bear.
Next to the pile of documents and boxes, on your desktop, is a photo frame which shows a younger version of yourself. Beaming pearly white smile with shiny eyes that could blind the camera itself, saying that you were happy was an understatement, you were delighted.
Truthfully speaking, you were naive. You loved to tell everyone you were going to be different, the exception of the rule, the one and only, justice bringer. But in reality, the sole fact you didn’t feel sympathy for those rich people tells you that maybe you weren’t so different.
Or were you?
Fighting between your drowsiness and the obligation to continue working on this case, you grab the envelope Leon previously gave you. A yawn gets stuck in your throat, not allowing any sign of exhaustion to show in your face right now.
The first thing that greets you is a document you quite don’t understand at first. The black words are blurry, proof of how much you need to sleep. A body can’t function without resting but you can’t function if work is due. Soft slaps around your face and a long-needed sip of the black caffeine liquid will do for now.
“Life Insurance…” Your lips work on their own as you read the title, written in black ink. The font style proves the authenticity of the document. Dated July 1979, the legal paper started with the log of a woman’s name and age.
Patricia Clark Powell, 28. American, caucasian. Marital status: Married. Children: 2. Now this is something.
Reading each word carefully, leaving no detail off the table, a rather big number got your attention. After a long overview of this woman’s life details, you come across a table that shows the life insurance payout.
The main and only beneficiary was Robert Clark, he'd inherit the absurd and grotesque amount of 5 million dollars.
But the catch here was that the only requirement to claim the insurance was the death certificate of the insured party, meaning that Patricia had to pass away.
You set aside the document for now. Your fingers graze over the corner of the paper to turn it.
A picture, no, several pictures come into your vision. All of them are colored and clear as water. The shoot is not perfect, as if someone was hiding while taking those photos.
The camera is positioned on a table. Hence the awkward angle it shows, nonetheless the main focus is on two people sitting down.
The table, the walls, and overall decorations are an obvious giveaway of the place they were in. An expensive and pretentious restaurant that only the rich can afford. A stroke to their damned egos knowing that they could buy and eat a whole cow if they wanted to. Not before wiping any crumbs with a one thousand-dollar check.
You squint your eyes and even lean forward to try and inspect in great detail each part of the picture—detective skills kicking in, you may say.
The man on the right has a neatly trimmed mustache, and bushy eyebrows that match his hair color, black. He's wearing a navy blue suit with a gray tie. Very office-like and rather different from his counterpart next to him who wears a hoodie and a cigarette between his lips. The angle showing the faintest details of a tattoo on his right hand, which holds the cigarette.
Flipping through the pictures, you see many more of them but just from different positions. Yet the main highlight is the now obvious identity of the man who exposes himself to the camera's lenses.
Robert Clark.
The last document is a newspaper headline. “CRIMINAL FUGITIVES” it reads and shows several mugshots of criminals who escaped prison over these last five years. Under the pictures, a text box includes some characteristics of the ex-prisoners. Your attention falls on a specific name.
The picture shows a man with brown hair and brown eyes, a stubble growing on his jaw and cheeks. Why was he convicted? Organized crime and contract killing, a hitman in other words. The text described the man as a 5’9 male with no moles and no notorious scars.
But a tattoo on his right hand.
Before you can even process everything you have read and seen, the ring of a phone breaks the solemn silence that has set in your office. Sliding to where the phone was, you pick up the call.
And before you could even utter a word, someone started the conversation first.
“Hey there, Sherlock.” A man’s voice greets you. Deep but smooth tone, easy to distinguish.
“Mr. Kennedy.” You reply, brushing off the nickname he just gave you. “What a timing.”
“Why is that?” Playing dumb, Leon shoots his question.
“I just finished reading the documents you gave me.” A seed of confusion is planted in your statement as you try to make up your mind with the information you just registered. “Where did you get all of this?” You say pressing the speaker closer to your mouth, whispering the words.
“Feeling curious, aren’t we?” Mock oozes from his tone, but there is a hint of genuine playfulness in his speech, as if delighted to be the one providing the confidential information. “You know… As much as I want to tell you, I just can’t.”
“Why?”
“Oh? Am I being questioned?” If you were next to him, you’d see the smirk that has formed on his face. And if you indeed were, a slap would be planted on his cheek, for sure.
Leon continues being a puzzle you couldn’t solve. From the first (and only) moment you met him, his odd and shared disdain for the rich baffled you. You can’t seem to break through the world inside his head.
“Does it feel like I'm questioning you?”
“Kinda.”
“Forget it.” You shrug, leaving the topic as it is. There’s no point in trying to make Leon spit the truth. At least, not now. “But this is truly a key piece to this investigation.”
“That I know,” Leon replies. “But as I told you yesterday, don’t do anything stupid.”
Silence fills the call as you take in what Leon said, or rather, repeated.
“Oh?” Bitterly, you retort. “So you think I’ll do something stupid? It’s funny, all of my male colleagues always told me that.”
“I didn’t mean it like tha—”
“Oh course you didn’t.” Sarcasm was dripping from your words. “Nobody does.” You add with an exhausted sigh coming out from your lips.
“No, but I truly didn’t mean it.” He finally finishes his sentence as your pause allows him to interrupt you.
“Look, sorry… I’ve dealt with these people ever since I remember and It’s just so… fucked up.” He adds. “You’re better than those dickhead detectives. I assure you.”
Now that you think about it, you may have overreacted. But then again, it wasn’t your fault. Being surrounded by people who discriminate and minimize every hardship you face, built a hard shell no one could break through.
Instead of sticking to the awkward topic and Leon’s reassuring words, you decide to change the direction of this exchange.
“Why did you call, Leon?” You ask, a tear forming in your eye due to the lack of sleep and the imminent yawn that threatens to escape from your mouth.
The polite and tactful pattern was broken as soon as his name slipped from your lips. No agent nor Mr. Kennedy. For now, he is just Leon.
Carrying a hint of embarrassment given his previous poor choice of words, he replies to your question.
“Mr. Clark’s wife is holding a funeral for him. I was going to tell you in case you wanted to go.”
His words catch your attention, the funeral could be the perfect opportunity to secretly investigate Patricia. In hindsight, a hunch tells you she isn’t involved—at least directly— in the candidate’s death. But it could give you some clues you may have overlooked.
“Are you going?”
“I might.”
You absentmindedly nod, acknowledging his answer.
“Got it…” You play with the phone’s cord. “I’ll see you there, I guess.”

The chapel shimmers with almost blinding lights. Even though the nature of a funeral is dull and gloomy, the contrast is obvious. The whole setting is the perfect opportunity to show off, once again, the money that was being spent on it. The air is filled with raw indifference and overall pure narcissism.
The lack of mourning and tears throw you off, especially when you feel like an outsider, you don’t belong here. Besides the fact that, of course, no matter how much you worked you could never afford the type of brand every individual was wearing—there is this feeling you can’t brush off.
Your eyes travel over the room, searching for the wife now a widow. It is easy to get distracted by the mingling of certain guests and hushed laughs. Time and place… you thought.
What is supposed to be a thousand agonies and a sea of sorrow turns out to be the perfect act of grief. Let God be the judge of these people who surround themselves in the miseries of others.
Amidst your judgment of everyone in the room, your task of finding Mrs Clark comes to an abrupt stop as a figure you recognize makes its appearance. Now wearing a dark blue suit, Leon’s frame is unmistakable.
He’s next to a woman, brunette hair that reaches her back. A black fascinator is perfectly placed on her head, a wave of cringiness washes over you for the choice of fashion she went with. That must be Patricia Clark.
Confident but subtle, the cackling sounds of your high heels mix with the hushed chit-chat of those in the room. At last, it comes to a stop as you find yourself behind the widow and Leon who had previously acknowledged your presence.
And for a moment, your eyes lock with the agent’s who wears an expression that could only be described as an attempt to warn you about something. But for now, you drift your attention towards the task at hand.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Clark.” You extend your hand while you introduce yourself. “I’m so sorry for your loss.”
Manners, of course. You couldn’t feel sorry, especially now that you know that besides being an empty-headed politician, Robert Clark was an almost-murderer.
However, you regret the fact that you chose the polite way of approaching as soon as your hand reached the air instead of the brunette-haired woman’s hand. Then, you realized this wouldn’t be as easy as you had thought.
A bemused expression forms in your face but it fades rather quickly as you remember your objective here. Taken aback, you pull your hand away before bringing them both behind your back.
Leon doesn’t seem surprised by the blatant uncordial treatment Mrs. Clark just gave you. A sneer is present in his face as if he were saying ‘I told you so.’
“Don’t take it personal, darling.” Her voice tone reeks of arrogance and a know-it-all feeling. “I’ve been here for God knows how long. My hand may as well fall off if I keep shaking hands.”
There was no reason to feel amused by the whole interaction, you have dealt with these types of people before. But, the coldness and tactlessness of her words throw you off.
“I understand.” You feign agreement as if the fact that her husband is fucking dead is merely a minor detail. “But please, allow me to share my condolences. A woman as young as yourself shouldn’t be experiencing this.”
You resort to false praise words. There’s nothing else these fuckheads love more than people licking their shoe soles and acting like they are the only people living in the world.
“It’s indeed difficult.” The woman brings her hand to her eyes, wiping the nonexistent tears that were supposed to be there. “My husband preferred to shoot himself instead of continuing being the man of the house.”
What a bitch.
Glancing at Leon, you find him crouching down in front of an infant. Given his brown hair, he must be one of the two Mr. and Mrs. Clark's children.
“Is that your son?” You ask.
“Yes…” An exasperated sigh again. As if she doesn't want to be here. In a sense, it is comprehensible but her overall personality wouldn't allow you to feel an ounce of sympathy.
“How's he dealing with everything?” And after that question, you believe Mrs. Clark will snap at you any time now.
“Like every other kid would.” She replies, sparing not even a glance toward her own child. “He prefers her nanny anyway.”
Mentally cursing the mother, your lips tug a forced smile, one that doesn't reach your eyes but symbolizes the end of this meaningless conversation.
Your eyes travel until they land on Leon and the kid. The little one's eyes seem wet with tears that he so bravely holds back.
Talking to children and elderly people was always the most difficult part of this job. Ever since you took it, those were your soft spot and Achilles’ ankle.
Leon notices your hesitation and motions you to join him. Scooting a bit, he gives you some space for you to crouch down too.
Greetings haven't been exchanged yet, instead of a hello, Leon welcomes you with a name.
“Lucas.” He whispers as you lower yourself to be at eye level with the infant.
You nod.
Lucas looks no older than 5 years old. A mop of brunette curly hair adorns his head.
“Hi Lucas…” You give the little boy a gentle and warm smile. He blinks some tears that fall from his cheeks to the ground.
There's no response, which it's okay. Unlike his mother's behavior, you know this innocent human is actually grieving.
You take your time as tiny hiccups and soft sobs keep Lucas from forming actual sentences.
“Lucas, this my friend.” It was Leon’s turn to speak. His usual chatty tone was replaced by an almost fatherly voice. “You told me you like making friends, didn't you?”
You watch as the little one slowly nods and wipes away the tears that keep rolling down his face. But this time, his sobs are coming to a stop.
“Are you daddy's friend?” He finally asks. However, the question was one you didn't expect.
“Yes.” You lie, as a detective you are used to telling white and not so white lies just for the sake of finding a bigger truth. But lying to a child wasn't something you were looking for.
“Okay…” Lucas responds and looks at both of you and Leon. A flick of light between the living hell of those pretentious people who act like they care.
“Daddy must be proud to see how strong you're right now.” Leon speaks once again and you witness how he ruffles Lucas’ hair in an attempt to cheer him up.
“You think so?” Lucas’ voice, for one, is higher than just a whisper. And for the first time, you notice how he's missing one of his teeth. “Daddy always told me to be as strong as him every time he went to the doctor.”
The word doctor set both of you and Leon off. According to Robert Clark's medical history, he was a healthy individual. No illness and not even allergies.
“Doctor? Was your daddy sick?”
“Weren't you daddy's friend? You should know…” You didn't expect to be outsmarted by a kid.
“Your daddy didn't want us to worry.” Second lie on the day, you're keeping count. “That's why he never told us.”
A pause lingers in the air as you reply to the child. It takes a while before he can answer your question as if conditioned not to talk about his father's doctor visits.
“He sometimes went to the doctor,” Lucas explains after a few seconds of reluctance. “He told me not to tell mommy or nanny. Maybe he didn't want them to worry too.”
“Was your daddy sick?” Leon asks in the same gentle tone he has kept throughout the conversation.
“Dunno…” Lucas pouts. “Doctor was also daddy’s friend.”
The kid’s naivety is providing you with more information than his mother could give you. Of course, his guileless wouldn’t serve any purpose legally speaking. But, it can give you some insight into Mr Clark’s background and motive.
And once again, you don’t have time to process the information as the rumbling of a stomach guides your attention toward Lucas.
“Sir?” Lucas’ eyes meet Leon’s blue ones. “Mommy said she’s busy… But I’m hungry.”
Leon offers Lucas a kind smile.
“Tell you what, kiddo. There’s a coffee shop near here, I’ll buy you something to eat.”
Lucas’ eyes seem to get brighter at the prospect of eating, it leads you to think how long has it been since he last ate something.
When you are turning your back to follow Leon out of the chapel—because there was no way would stay there for a second longer— you feel a tiny hand wrapping around your sleeve.
“Miss.” A pause and a deep breath. “Do you think daddy’s in heaven?”
“...”
“Yes, he is.” The third and last lie.

You tag along with Leon, both of you walking down the street until you reach a coffee shop. No words are exchanged and a rather awkward silence sets between both of you.
Your mind is somewhere else while your body works on its own. You don’t even notice when Leon asks you something, too worried about the case, too scared something bigger than you may eat you whole if you keep poking your nose where it doesn’t belong.
However, as stubborn as you could be, justice needs to prevail.
While biting the inside of your cheeks, Leon’s words bring you back from your trance. “Hey? I asked you if you wanted something.”
You come to notice that you have already walked towards the cash register. Both the cashier and Leon’s eyes fall on you.
“An Americano.”
You come up with the quickest answer you could think of. You watch Leon take out his wallet and pay with cash.
Eventually, both of your orders plus Lucas’ are called and you decide to take a break albeit your attempt at telling Leon there was no time to lose.
“So… any luck with Mrs. Newly Widow?” Leon asks as he takes a bite of his sandwich.
“Nope.” You stir your coffee and blow some air. “Didn’t know she would be so difficult to deal with.”
“Well, she’s no more difficult than you.” He replies jokingly with a feeble smirk on his face.
“Oh, you’re funny. How many times have you used that one with other people?” You retort, the sarcastic answer flying so gracefully out of your lips as if you have been ready for one of his remarks.
“See! That’s what I’m talking about.” He gestures at you. “I’m trying to be friends with you but you push me away.”
Silence dawns upon both of you as you exhale. Although Leon has been nothing but respectful—in his own way— the fear of looking polite and weak with a colleague is still very much present.
Dropping the act of being cold and emotionless isn’t something that you are looking for nor planning to do. Not until you could show the world that you are, in fact, as capable as any other man.
“Look, Leon,” You speak in a calm tone. “I don’t make friends, not in this field and especially not with men.”
As you say so, you reach for a sugar packet. No americano tastes good without sugar.
“Sorry.” You add.
There is nothing to feel sorry about. Your feelings and boundaries shouldn’t depend on someone else. Yet, a part of you couldn’t help but regret your bold choice of words.
“Hey, nothing to apologize for.” And even though he was the one who suggested the whole friendship thing, he is also the one who is soothing the waters. “I know men in general can be a pain in the ass.”
That causes a huff to slip out of your mouth. “Trying to win points?”
“Not really.” He says while chewing on his sandwich. “Besides, you’re too smart for that.”
You chuckle, finally ripping the material of the sugar packet. “Finally we agree on something.”
Drumming his fingers against the hard wooden material both of your gaze into the distance, not adding anything else to the conversation. The aroma of coffee fills the area where you are sitting with Leon.
“Lucas, Mr. Clark’s kid… you were good with him.” It slips off your tongue rather easily. A tinge of sincerity washes over your statement.
And you can observe how Leon’s face went from a resting and soft expression to a stunned one. However, after your previous comments, the awkward and uneasy feeling shifted into an amiable one.
“Was I?” Almost incredulous and even insecure. A slight trace of a vulnerable side you haven’t seen nor expected. “Thanks.”
Judging by his expression, Leon either had a soft spot for kids just like you or there’s something else you don’t know. Most agents show themselves as cold-hearted creatures who give no shit about anyone but themselves or their missions.
But it’s none of your business.
“What Lucas told us, about the doctor. Do you think it may be related to the case?” You ask, back to your normal and professional self.
“I believe it can help us to investigate further,” Leon replies. “but I fail to see how this doctor could be of any help in this case.”
“Maybe not on this one…” You murmur not even noticing the words that fell from your lips.
“What do you mean?” Leon notes your slight behavior change. Clearing your throat, you shake your head dismissing your previous words.
“Nothing.” For now, the missing civilians’ case doesn’t need to be exposed. You fear the government is behind it and the one you’re currently investigating. You don’t need Leon to follow each step you take, especially given his association with the nation’s leaders.
Taking one last sip of your drink, you raise your wrist and read the time. Going back to the chapel wouldn’t bring you more information. Not when everyone seemed more focused on their conversations rather than helping.
Searching through your wallet, you pull a 10 dollar bill and place it on the table, next to your empty cup of coffee.
“What is that?”
“For my coffee.” You respond, getting up from the chair and looking back at Leon. “I don’t like owing to people.”
“You don’t have to, you know?” Leon chuckles and shakes his head. “It’s on me.”
“Well…” You reply. “Then make sure to give it back to me one day.”

Ephesians 6:10-18
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness
Leon’s hands are clean, metaphorically speaking. But his mind is not.
He wasn’t directly involved in the numerous deaths of politicians and CEOs. He just provided the right amount of information for them to kill each other. Playing God amongst them, in a way only he could recognize and embrace.
Death has rejected him but he brings that destiny upon those who sought to destroy the peace settled in the city and therefore nation. That’s the role he accepted once the curse of immortality ran deeply in his veins.
It all started with hints he would drop in the middle of conversations. Twisted words that would seed doubts among elitists. Alliances were broken easily, that he needn’t worry about. But some partnerships were harder to break, sly statements would get him anywhere.
So, direct accusations were made. Obviously, under a fake name or rather an anonymous identity which would prompt people to feel paranoid even in their own homes. It took less than a week for lesser pawns to be found dead or disappear under odd circumstances. Of course, those who own the city would leave no trace of their crimes—so even for him, a federal agent, it was impossible to reach them without his mission being discovered.
So, as soon as he was assigned to help you in this mysterious case, he was delighted. He’d play his pieces right and boom, he’d wriggle his way into the elite that control the city with their tainted and bloody hands and root out the evil.
However, he wouldn’t have thought that his “eternal suffering” disease would act the first moment he saw you.
Ever since he was transformed, the adaptation path was rough and difficult to deal with. Nonetheless, he made a promise to never act upon his instincts, no matter how unbearable they could get.
When he first saw Mr. Clark’s body, it wasn’t surprising. He knew he would choose the path of dying instead of facing his crimes and past. They’re all like that. Cowards, good for nothing, worthless, usel—
A sugary and pleasant aroma flooded his senses which immediately put him at ease amid the gruesome scenario lying underneath his frame.
It wasn’t coming from the dead bastard, that he knew. So what is it? The smell was getting even more prominent each second that passed. It made him dig his short fingernails into the palm of his hand, forming tiny half-moons on the thin skin.
His senses were never that heightened nor his body was that sensible to even the softest of draughts.
And his body worked on his own as soon as the doorknob tweaked, he turned around and acted as if his work was the only thing on his mind.
As if his eternal life wasn’t about to change forever. When forever only meant pain and sorrow, at least for Leon.

Whether in the books or show, didn’t Dany eventually try to prevent the pillaging of the Lhazareen village? So couldn’t her trying to protect the women from that village by claiming them as her own be all she could do considering the system the Dothraki had? Trading slaves is one of their ways of trading money. All she could do was claim the women as her own slaves, so that no harm could be done to them as they are Dany’s property. Dany obviously doesn’t share the same views but knew how to act because she knew the Dothraki ways. She cares about them and even her entire upcoming arc is freeing slaves. Dany wasn’t able to properly free them because she as a Khaleesi doesn’t have any worth without her Khal, in terms of power. But she still cared for those girls and even swore to avenge one of them. Why do ppl criticize her for that?
There are several reasons for this.
1. She burns Mirri.
Regardless of what she meant to do with her slaves, she owns Mirri. Mirri tells her what to do several times and her instructions are not followed. Dany acknowledges this herself when she thinks that Jorah killed her son, yet she ultimately makes Mirri pay the sole price for this. Later on, when a former slaver comes to her and asks for the newly freed slaves who raped his female members to be punished, she says she will not punish a slave rising up. There is no reflection here on her actions towards Mirri, there’s no growth, and it’s on purpose.
2. She doesn’t treat Irri or Jhiqui any differently
They still refer to themselves as slaves. Dany uses Irri sexually even knowing Irri feels obligated to do this, then has this weird power play moment where she implies Irri is not good enough to fuck one of her bloodriders. It is a valid point of criticism that you can say you’re a good person until you’re blue in the face but if you still see your former slaves as slaves, as beneath you, as worthy of fucking but not of marrying up - I mean what have you changed, really?
3. Regardless of her intentions, slaves were still taken in her name
This conquest is kicked off because she wants it. I get she’s not driving, she’s not even riding shotgun, and the initial fallout is out of her control in many ways because she’s literally giving birth. I also understand that she’s practically a child herself, and doesn’t quite understand what “sacking a city to build an army” actually entails until she sees it. I think you could compare the initial sack of the Lhazareen village as similar to Arya killing that stable boy, or perhaps Sansa’s actions after Ned is taken, Catelyn when she takes Tyrion to the Vale; as in, she just doesn’t have all the facts or enough agency to make this situation go the way she thinks it’s going to go, and it goes horrifically sideways.
That said, the issue here is she continues having to learn this same mistake over and over - she knows a sack is violent and unpredictable, she knows younger people often have very little control over their lives, she still sacks three cities in a row with orders to kill everyone over 13 and then doesn’t understand why they turned to hell and why the forces that sacked those cities are having a hard time taking control. Like, she hears and sees herself from the account of Eroeh AND Mirri’s own mouth that what good “freedom and safety” are worth if your home was burned to the ground before your eyes and still hasn’t made the connection here to her own actions. Tywin was mistrusted by the people of KL up until his dying day because of the brutality of the KL sack and his use of the Mountain to regularly sack & raid small towns has turned the Riverlands inside out, not dissimilar to Astapor and the Bay in general. It’s a worrying pattern that seems likely to really bite her in the ass if she still hasn’t learned this lesson by the time she lands in Westeros.
It speaks to a level of privilege, and dehumanization that puts to question whether she is capable or sincere in her quest to upend the system or whether she is simply a reactionary child grasping for the ability to protect herself at the expense of the slaves around her. I think she DOES believe what she’s talking about, that everyone deserves the chance to live a happy life (strictly in the book. i do not feel the same about her in the show). But I also think she is a child ruled by fear, with no knowledge of the context in which she exists as a valyrian and a targaryen, and actively avoids learning the truth about her family’s actions and the way she may be perceived because she ties so much of her self worth to her family’s legacy. if that legacy is bad, then she is bad, ergo her father can’t be bad. this is her constant struggle in the series - her compassion for missandei and care for the girl’s future and her complete dismissal of irri as a human being with dignity. her drive to fix injustice she sees and the idea that dragons plant no trees. all of that starts in the dothraki sea - but she never learns, even as she gains more control, she defaults to anger and violence and dangerous fire magic to solve every single problem she comes up against, and purposefully closes her eyes to the cost it has, because that cost is people like Mirri! Other slaves!!! Acceptaboe collateral damage!
4. Her actions are just kinda dumb sometimes?
Yeah, while she’s trying to stop the rape happening in Lhazar in the first book, her save for this is essentially “trap these women in hostage marriages, and sell their relatives for money and take their shit.” Even if she had said and been listened to by the time they got to another village (but they don’t bc Drogo dies), she’s still stealing their shit to fund a war of conquest with a group of Dothraki screamers? From a PR standpoint alone, that’s not gonna win her any friends, which is the same point of criticism with a lot of her alliances - she’s like tailor making an army that is going to piss off Westeros the most! She’s got Dothraki, she’s got ~freed Unsullied, she’s got a greyjoy in the works, she’s not paying anyone jack shit. Who in Westeros is going to ally with her here? I’m not even just talking about Westerosi xenophobia and racism here, it’s like. Sometimes it feels like watching Ned in the capital, to read Dany and see her make all the wrong choices. I get why she’s making them but my god they’re so bad. The Dothraki are near universally disliked for being a slaving culture! Armies that are wholesale bought somewhere else and brought to another place are not usually liked very much even just region to region - hello the riverlands mess! The Ironborn DO experience a level of social prejudice that feels xenophobic but there Is this element here that like,,, these bitches love to raid the coastline of their neighbors, a lot of people have legitimate beef with them! Take a step back from how much you love her and look at what she’s doing - half of the wars in westeros center around PR and her PR as of right now kind of sucks even internationally bc she’s got the crazy fire worshippers on her side who are about to have a big issue in Westeros with SOMEONE about to set poor Shireen on fire! I don’t think it’s bad to point out that she’s not gonna have an easy time getting buy in from the people of Westeros! People whack Rhaenyra for this point all the time, “she refuses to understand how she’s perceived” neither does Dany tho!!
5. She’s still in a place of privilege
This one is hard to get across and it’s the one that always annoys me most to explain. (not mad at u anon, you’re being perfectly polite but i just don’t know how to explain this without sounding patronizing and also like, rape tw here). But it’s like. I get she’s oppressed more so than the average Westerosi wife as a khaleesi. I get it. I understand this. She still isn’t a slave. She still owns slaves. When I say “she owned slaves” i’m saying THINK about this From The Slave’s POV, not from Dany’s!! Some slavers show up in your town and kill every man you know. Boys and men. Then they rape you, and your neighbor, and your niece, and leave you lying in the mud. Then another man comes by and rapes you. Then some girl comes up and says she owns you. You are exhausted and traumatized and now you’re on this long trudge so she can sell you or the other children captured into slavery somewhere else. Then the leader dies, and she burns a slave alive, and says you’re free. Yeah she doesn’t have a lot of control, but what about the control the slave has? Why should we not weep for Mirri Maz Durr? Why is her life and tragedy worth less than Dany’s and why is Dany’s story littered with women exactly like Mirri? Could it be that maybe there’s a theme going on here about the limits of power that relies on the subjugation of others and the consistent failures of Great Powers to nation build when they refuse to interact with their own complicity in violence or the harm done to the native population?
I’m not saying I don’t understand the limits of what Dany can do in many of the situations she’s in. I’m saying she is on this quest to free slaves while having no understanding and at this point is actively FIGHTING understanding what it is about slavery that is so evil and dehumanizing. I’m saying can we think about the PoV of the peasant child who is burned and eaten by Drogon? Can we think about the PoV of Irri or Jhiqui? If we’re freeing slaves and criticizing the system, why does Dany refuse to reflect on Mirri Maz Durr’s fate as a slave?

okay so obviously I need to hear everything about pride and prejudice fic !!! 😍💖🙏🏻
honestly it partly exists because your beautiful regency au is INSPIRING!!!
Okay so I guess I should probably explain the gender system I’ve worked out for this au because Pride and Prejudice relies so heavily on the Gender of it all… I have, in a way, reinvented mpreg/the omegaverse (it won’t really feature much in the fic it’s just so I can make things work)
Basically everyone has a primary and secondary gender. Your primary gender is either carrier (can get pregnant) or sire (can get others pregnant) and the secondary gender is male or female. DONT think too hard about the biology this is all just vibes. And carriers take the role of regency women whether they’re male or female (can’t own property, have to be married off, etc etc) and sires have the role of men. Hopefully that makes sense?
So Nico and Seb are the eldest of five carrier sons, which means they all need to marry well ideally, and their family home can’t go to any of them. Jenson is a rich sire that moves to the neighbourhood and obviously all the carriers are trying to woo him. He is immediately obsessed with Nico (if you know p&p you know that Nico and Jane are almost entirely opposites in personality, bear with me) and Nico is pretending that he doesn’t care for Jenson before of his Issues.
Jenson’s friend Mark also visits and completely snubs the neighbourhood and in particular he snubs Seb (“not handsome enough to tempt me”) and Seb is initially just really amused by this, but when Jenson and Nico start spending more and more time together, and Seb is forced into proximity with Mark, Mark’s pride and rudeness start to grate on Seb’s nerves…
and thus the plot of pride and prejudice ensues!!! I do actually have a snippet I can share of this I’ll stick it under the cut
~
Sebastian rolled his eyes and threw himself back to sprawl on his bed.
“My sincerest apologies, dear brother,” he said, insincerely. “Pray then, tell me what you really think of Mr Button. And do not tell me what you know mama would want you to say.”
At this, Nico paused in his reply for so long that Sebastian lifted his head in order to closely watch his brother, who had carefully perched on the edge of the bed. It was most unusual for Nico to not immediately have some acerbic remark prepared to whisper to Sebastian when no one else was listening. As Sebastian watched, a flush rose in Nico’s cheeks.
“Well, he is everything a gentleman should be. Perfect manners, a good humoured disposition, handsome. I am most sure that every young carrier in the neighbourhood will be tripping over themselves to win his admiration.”
“And does that include you, Nico?”
“It most certainly does not. Seb, you know how I feel about the ridiculousness of marriage. If someone of great wealth should make an offer then I would of course oblige out of the desire to secure a future for you and our family. But I will not demean myself by chasing after every charming young sire that graces me with his attention.”
At this, Sebastian grinned.
“Even a charming young sire that dances four dances with you, when he only danced one with everyone else?” he asked, attempting to provoke his older brother.
He was rewarded with the flush on Nico’s cheeks deepening.
“Even a sire such as that,” Nico replied. “Besides, I am sure he would grow sick of me in short order. Most sires do. I am not— demure enough.”
Sebastian pulled himself across the bed to wrap Nico in a swaddling hug, and refused to let go even as Nico attempted to bat him away.
#please I am SO excited about this au#it’s going to be SOOOOO much fun#I’m really excited to keep writing it hehehe#thank you for giving me an excuse to yap <3#bug answers#fic: pride and prejudice#<- might as well start a tag

basically I'm having a gender/sexuality crisis again and it feels really stupid because I feel I should already have a theoretical basis for approaching this but I #forgor. ig also it's like. Very difficult for me to synthesize the notions of gendering as a series of violences that define a person with plurality.
And any time I look up stuff about how to deal with different headmates having different genders and sexualities it's like the people who write about this stuff already have a unified idealist viewpoint on gender btwn headmates.
Like, these people are not dealing with internal arguments on the definitions of terms and the implications of "identity" altogether, what they're taking themselves as reckoning with is like...that they share a body with a being that Has different expressions and Desires?
Or um, I mean essentially I have to reckon with that too. But I mean in the sense of that shit Foucault said on the difference btwn, like, desiring or acting sexually toward a given gender vs embedding oneself culturally in the incentives of, here, gayness. These people just aren't really thinking abt how this stuff is socially mediated they can just...interpret feelings as a notion of "attraction" that given headmates have or lack and then assign a label accordingly.
Another thing is like. People seemingly taking for granted the sort of...self-concept body mismatch. Body dysmorphia, potentially. How much am I meant to interrogate a decrease in dissociation on testosterone and, hopefully, with top surgery in a system comprised of several members who prefer to be conceptualized as stylized depictions of feminine women? Like, it can't be taken in a simple aspirational sense because I can't seem to just reconfigure my physicality to accept large breasts and hips, far easier to not be so distressed and clumsy would be to remove those traits (which has been done w the hips on T).
So it's possibly more about the difference in perception for the same behaviors in different embodiments. Is this like. Irredeemably misogynist.
Because like, given these physical changes are considered masculine, a neutral affect and subtler gesticulations will be taken as like, subscribing to manhood, no? Due to a lack of signifiers of patronizing a nonconforming sphere. And is it enough to conceptualize oneself as being involved in a sphere despite not ever fronting for an actual action?
idk I wish people would stop treating me like a man :( it's not like it's out of nowhere I did have a period where I identified as a trans guy but I've like, talked about how the moment I was idk, socially actualized as a Man (as opposed to merely aspiring to that acceptance) it was so horrifying and disgusting I wanted nothing to do with manhood anymore.
Like, it got to a point where I could not on principle accept any difference in treatment btwn myself and a woman. Which is kind of necessary for a gender identity to have meaning. I don't mean in the sense of explicit discrimination like I snapped at a guy for calling me bro because I assumed he wouldn't have done so for a woman. And btwn men who shave their heads there's a qualitative difference in how they talk to a fellow man who does and a someone who Isn't a man. And I can't stand it. I can't stand the way men get so pleased and approving when they think a fellow man is joining their no girls allowed gender expression club.
But it's like inescapable now. I feel like I've articulated a disassociation with manhood and a connection with gay womanhood to no avail. In the absence of anyone who can recognize me as a misogynized subject am I just obligated to be a man? Is this the case for all headmates? What does one have to do for their gender to be real?

So I have finally completed my first (of I’m sure to be many) complete rereads of Pieces now that it’s completed!! What a difference it is actually to read all the way through vs reading as it updates. I truly felt like I was in fight or flight whenever you released a chapter and read it with a resting heart rate of 92837383833 beats a minute. This read was much less stressful but I still caught myself holding my breath at some parts. The story is so amazing, it may be one of my favorite stories overall, not just one of my favorite fics! You are so talented I honestly don’t know how you are so funny one minute then making feel like I’m going to cry in another. I think my favorite funny line is Rose scandalized at Astarion not eating the muffins, it lives in my mind rent free. I’m so happy we still have An Honest Lie because I am now parasocially too invested in you and your updates for all of them to be gone 😅
I have rambled a lot now but I made a tumblr specifically to follow you and a handful of other writers because I loved getting to see WIP snippets and behind the scenes talk of stuff you all work on. Your posts about how appreciated comments are is the reason why I comment on all the fics I am reading, was always too anxious to do so beforehand. I had a baby in November so these fics have been with me while being awake at all hours of the night and kept me sane knowing I had something to look forward to reading while feeding the baby. I feel like they’ve been through the trenches with me and I will always be thankful for the work you do to give such amazing stories!!
PS one last thing I was never a big Hozier person but I finally listened to Unknown and I am VERY EMOTIONAL NOW 🥲
hey darling! thank you for messaging!!!
Unknown/Nth gets us all, eventually :') what a song! I had to write a whole fic about it and everything.
I'm really glad that you enjoyed Pieces on a reread. from my experience of posting with the full fic outline in mind versus the comments I was getting... I can definitely imagine the two experiences being very different!! Definitely easier to go certain places (and end chapters on certain cliffhangers lmao) when the end is in sight. I love seeing stories as serialised narratives versus complete wholes... one of the reasons I'm such a sucker for fanfic! I'm glad it still holds up as a story and I'm really pleased that you like it.
(Also, thank you for the comment about the muffins. It was just a silly bit but... Oscar Wilde would be so proud.)
And just generally, thank you! I often write myself through and out of tricky times in my own life, and it feels strange to know that someone else is going through much bigger changes than me (a baby! you absolute superstar!) and my writing is doing something similar for them that it is for me :) either providing comfort or just a way to relax or have a silly moment to themselves! anyway, I hope you know comments like these are literally the fuel that keep writers writing, and while we are not entitled to them and you are not obliged to give them, it is literally taking the time for messages like this that have convinced me that this is actually something I'm good at and that it is worth my time! I have a silly goldfish memory when it comes to my own talents, I can convince myself my writing sucks in 2hrs or less, and so I am unfortunately doomed to forever need positive reinforcement... and the thing is, I think most writers are the same!
so thank you!! you clearly have a busy life rn, and so spending any of your time talking to me is a massive compliment that I do not take for granted. readers and commenters are a vital part of this little eco-system and so thank you for sharing my writing with me :) you're probably one of the main reasons it happened at all :) xx

In which I have had it with disingenuous advice lauding rugged individualism
We often hear that if you truly and deeply want to create something—writing, music, visual arts, a company, an invention, etc.—you will find a way to do it. You’ll squeeze out the time between your other obligations; the muse and the passion will help you along, and you will succeed! I have said things like this myself in the past, meaning to be inspirational and encouraging, as people generally intend to be when they say such things. But as I’ve gotten older and met more kinds of people and looked honestly at society, particularly here in the US, it has become painfully clear that the above is an incomplete story.
The whole truth has to include this part too:
There are many people whose wonderful creations we haven’t yet seen, and might never see, because these people are not getting enough support in terms of basic needs: health, finances, family, safety, access. For reasons beyond their control—expensive chronic health problems, disabilities, neurodiversity, families who cannot or will not help them, unstable housing situations, and more—they cannot merely grab the muse’s hand and be pulled along a prolifically creative path to success. Their vision may be exactly as wondrous and world-changing as anyone else’s, but we might never know, because circumstances block them from bringing it to fruition.
We don’t hear enough about these people. Given the way social media and news are designed, we hear frequently and voluminously from successful people with vast platforms, and next to nothing from those who fell through the cracks.
I don’t know of any easy solution. All the solutions need to be huge and systemic, and they go against the stubbornly individualistic American mindset that we cannot seem to shake (a problem shared by many other countries too).
But those of us who have at least enough daily stability, peace, health, and support to have struggled through our own issues and created something should pause and realize that, although our own struggles were indeed hard, other people’s are truly insurmountable, the way things stand. It’s disingenuous to claim, “Well, I managed it despite all these hardships, so anyone should be able to,” because in truth, we didn’t do it alone. It’s almost a certainty that we had someone willing to give us employment. Friends or relatives willing to help us now and then. People providing medical care for us. People keeping our utilities running smoothly. People interested enough in our idea that they contributed helpful feedback and even money. People who told others about us and boosted us up.
No one accomplishes feats of creation entirely by themselves from start to finish. It is one hundred percent a myth. Yet the “you can do anything,” “follow your dreams,” “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality continues to thrive and is still viewed as a fully workable plan. It is, I have come to believe, one of the most damaging and pernicious myths in our culture.
Dreams and creativity are vital, and yes, they are also personal and individual, and everyone deserves to be free to pursue them. For that to happen, however, our societies need to support everyone at a basic health and safety level. Everyone.
Vote accordingly. It’s all anyone can currently do. But in the meantime, look around at everything that has gone well in your life, all the tools and resources that have helped you get where you are, and recognize the often-invisible fellow humans behind each of those steps and each of those items. Send those folks a bit of gratitude, and try to turn your habitual thinking toward the realization that you are not alone—not a rugged pioneer, no matter what the American Dream has told you—and that no one else ought to feel alone either.
And I will keep saying it in short form and long till the end of my days: talk up the small creators you run across, those who actually need word-of-mouth hype. The big names are doing just fine without you posting about them. Give some bandwidth to those for whom a praise post would make their day and possibly even boost their finances.

What is Form C in Singapore?
In the bustling metropolis of Singapore, where economic dynamism blends with the serenity of well-ordered governance, businesses find themselves navigating a maze of administrative processes. Among these, Form C stands as a crucial document that businesses, particularly corporations, cannot ignore. This form is far more than a mere sheet of paper; it is the embodiment of Singapore’s tax system, a reminder that every business is an integral part of the country’s socioeconomic framework. But what exactly is Form C, and why does it evoke such importance?
In essence, Form C is an income tax return form used by companies in Singapore. It is submitted to theForm C: The Foundation of Corporate Tax Filing Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS), detailing a company’s income, expenses, and any tax obligations for the financial year. What distinguishes Singapore’s approach to corporate tax from other nations is its efficiency and transparency. Form C is a testament to Singapore’s commitment to a streamlined tax process, ensuring that both local and foreign corporations adhere to the regulations while contributing their fair share to the country's prosperity.
But It’s More Than Just a Form…
For business owners, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Form C can feel daunting. It requires meticulous attention to detail, capturing all facets of financial data that reflect the performance of the business. It’s not just about stating how much revenue was made or how many expenses were incurred; it’s about painting a clear picture of the company’s financial health.
Imagine a small startup, just beginning to blossom in Singapore’s fertile entrepreneurial ecosystem. The founders, filled with passion and vision, might feel overwhelmed when confronted with Form C. It’s not just the numbers—it’s the realization that they are now part of a system that demands accountability. Filing Form C is more than a tax obligation; it’s a rite of passage. It marks the company’s formal entry into the nation's fiscal and regulatory framework.
And for many businesses, that realization comes with mixed emotions—pride, anxiety, and a sense of responsibility. Pride, because they have grown enough to be on the radar of the tax authority. Anxiety, because even the smallest miscalculation in the form could lead to penalties or audits. And responsibility, because tax revenue, in a way, fuels Singapore’s infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social programs. Every company, big or small, contributes to the building of this nation.
The Legal Backdrop: A Tax Obligation Enforced
Under Singapore law, every company—whether it made a profit, loss, or had no business activity—is required to file its taxes. This underscores the significance of Form C. It is a legal obligation. While failure to file might seem like a minor oversight, it can lead to hefty penalties and even legal repercussions.
For corporations that operate across borders, this tax filing becomes more complex. A company’s international dealings, assets, and financial transfers need to be disclosed with full transparency in Form C. In a world where financial regulations are tightening, Singapore remains firm in its stance on transparency, aiming to combat money laundering and financial fraud. Form C, in this context, is not merely a form—it is a shield that protects the integrity of the nation’s financial system.
Types of Form C: Not One Size Fits All
Form C-S: This is a simplified version of the standard Form C. It was introduced to reduce the filing burden on small companies. To be eligible for filing Form C-S, the company must meet certain criteria, such as an annual revenue of no more than S$5 million and deriving income taxable at the prevailing corporate tax rate. For many SMEs, Form C-S is a welcome relief, simplifying the tax filing process while still ensuring compliance.
Form C: This is the comprehensive form required for larger companies or those with more complex financial structures. It demands detailed financial information, including income, tax adjustments, and deductions. For businesses operating on a larger scale, Form C serves as a detailed report card that reflects every corner of their financial dealings.
The introduction of Form C-S demonstrates the IRAS’s understanding of the challenges smaller businesses face. By offering a simplified version, the government sends a message of encouragement—helping companies comply without unnecessary strain.
Filing Deadlines:
One cannot discuss Form C without mentioning the importance of filing deadlines. For most companies, the deadline to submit Form C is on or before November 30 for paper filing or December 15 for e-filing, after the end of the financial year. These deadlines are crucial. Missing them not only risks fines and penalties but also signals to the tax authorities that a company may be negligent in its financial responsibilities.
For many companies, the lead-up to the filing deadline can be a time of tension. Accountants work late hours, meticulously going over financial records, cross-checking numbers, and ensuring every box is ticked. It’s a period where precision and accuracy take center stage. It’s not just about avoiding penalties—it’s about maintaining the company’s integrity in the eyes of the law.
Form C and Corporate Responsibility
Beyond the legal obligation, filing Form C is a company’s opportunity to demonstrate corporate responsibility. In an era where companies are increasingly judged not just by their profits but by their contributions to society, taxes play a pivotal role. The taxes collected through Form C filings go toward building public infrastructure, funding social programs, and ensuring the continued development of Singapore.
When companies pay their taxes, they are directly contributing to the betterment of society. They help build schools, hospitals, roads, and public amenities. They support the government in creating a more inclusive and prosperous Singapore. For many business leaders, this understanding brings a sense of purpose to the otherwise mundane task of tax filing. Form C is not just about fulfilling a legal requirement—it’s about playing a part in the nation’s progress.
Challenges in Filing Form C
While the process may seem straightforward, companies often encounter challenges. For newer businesses, understanding the nuances of tax adjustments, recognizing what qualifies as deductible expenses, or properly documenting capital gains can be confusing. Large corporations, on the other hand, face the challenge of consolidating financial data from different departments, subsidiaries, or even countries. Any discrepancy in these numbers can lead to audits, further complicating the process.
This is where the role of tax professionals and accountants becomes invaluable. Their expertise ensures that the company remains compliant while taking full advantage of the tax deductions and incentives offered by the government. But even with professional help, the responsibility ultimately rests with the company’s leadership. Filing Form C is not just about the technical aspects—it’s about upholding the values of transparency and accountability.
The Future of Tax Filing: Moving Towards Digitalization
Singapore is constantly looking to innovate and improve its systems. Over the years, the IRAS has pushed for digitalization in tax filing. E-filing of Form C is encouraged and is now the standard practice for most companies. This move towards digitalization is a reflection of Singapore’s forward-thinking approach, ensuring that its tax system is not only efficient but also environmentally friendly.
Conclusion: Form C as a Pillar of Singapore’s Corporate Landscape
In conclusion, Form C is much more than just a tax form. It represents the responsibility of corporations to contribute to the nation’s growth. It is a vital link between businesses and the government, ensuring that everyone plays their part in maintaining Singapore’s economic stability.
For businesses, especially those just starting out, the task of filing Form C may seem intimidating. But it is also a reflection of success—the company has grown enough to be part of Singapore’s formal economy. As companies file their taxes, they become part of a larger narrative—one where businesses and government work hand in hand to build a better future for everyone.
Filing Form C is, at its heart, a statement: We are here, we are thriving, and we are contributing to the fabric of Singapore. And that is something every business, big or small, can be proud of.

While the immense place of privilege is definitely true for some of them, I think it's more commonly that they've been made to feel the guilt they spread. Someone convinced them that Feeling Bad All The Time somehow helps people who are suffering (it doesn't, in case anyone reading this needs to be told that) so they make themselves feel bad and they try to make everyone else feel bad.
It functions similarly to how certain groups of Christians think that it's their job to convert everyone else because they believe they have a moral obligation to save everyone. If someone is stuck in that hole it can be very hard to even see the walls around them, let alone consider that there's a hole to get out of.
Which certainly doesn't excuse the behavior, but the people who are doing it for this reason can't change until they at least start to process that they're even doing it.
I'd even argue that you don't inherently have to pick one or two things, but you have to still manage how much time you spend focused on all of the Bad. And maybe sure at least some of the bad things you're focused on have ways that you can help. And spread more about what people can do to help than you do just sharing the news. Spreading awareness has its place, but if you don't channel some of it into something actionable (even if you can't do it for everything you're focused on) then you're digging yourself deeper into the hole.
None of us can singlehandedly change systemic issues and we do nothing to help others by getting more upset. Do what you can when you can, but spend time taking care of yourself and your loved ones too. You're not personally committing genocide or causing climate change if you take time out to focus on a hobby for a little bit or watch a show or go for a walk. You're not ending any of those things by screaming at others to focus on it 24/7, either.
“But the people affected by these issues can’t just turn them off! Why should you get to decide you’re not going to look at that stuff while on the internet?”
Because I can’t take on the world. If I try to focus on every single issue out there, then I’m going to burn out and not have anything to offer.

Raised by a toxic mother like I was? Let me share this with you on Mother's Day then.
Wishing you strength and comfort if you're not a parent but someone who's experienced a toxic mother and are just trying to get through the day.
Wishing you strength and comfort if you've experienced a toxic mother, and also wishing you a Happy Mother's Day if you're a mom or a day of celebration still if you're a single father fulfilling both roles.
🌺 Simple Truths for Those of Us Raised by Toxic Mothers
1.) You are not alone.
Hundreds of thousands of people have also been raised by toxic mothers like us. Support groups are one of the good starting places to find them if you wish to meet people outside of your circle.
2.) There's nothing wrong with you.
Ask your significant other, ask your loved ones, ask your friends what being around you is like in order to see all the great things our toxic mothers never wanted us to see.
3.) You are good enough as you are.
We need to hear this from someone! Since we never heard it from toxic mothers, we can say it to each other:
You're enough! You're strong! You're resilient! You're wise! You're intelligent! You're beautiful/handsome! You're resourceful! You're creative! You're brave!
4.) Don't try to change your toxic mother.
Ever try to drive a car that doesn't have keys to it or gas in it? Useless, and a waste of effort right? Toxic mothers won't change unless they change themselves.
5.) Appreciate life.
We both know finding out we don't have the loving mothers that other people do is hard. Coming to the realization that we had to survive our childhoods instead of just growing up is hard. Trying to cope with the fact that we lost a portion of our lives to abuse is hard. But, we were smart and strong enough to make it through and we should celebrate ourselves and how far we've come.
6.) Work toward and achieve your goals.
As someone with Sicilian ancestry, I feel like I know a thing or two about revenge. And the absolute best way to get back at your toxic mother or anyone that hurts you is to thrive, to get bigger and better than ever. Your success will be like a straight shot of an arrow right to the center of a target. And, you know, there's also the sense of accomplishment and the boost in self-confidence which helps to feel more valuable and fulfilled as a person, and all that too.
7.) Worry less.
As soon as I saw this one, I wasn't too sure if those of us with anxiety should laugh at it or get frustrated with it. Maybe a little of both? Getting to the point and it's a good one: don't sweat the small stuff and just focus on what you can actually change.
8.) Learn to trust other people.
Any of us raised by toxic mothers and/or having toxic families need:
Chosen Family
These are the people that love and care for you because you're you, and not toxic family publicly pretending out of obligation from DNA in hopes to preserve their image and reputation. And a...
Support System
These are the friends that are supportive and there for you no matter what. Also the fellow survivors you can vent to virtually anytime.
We can't acquire these things without letting others in and trusting them. I know it's hard, especially for those of us that this didn't work out for in the past. But good people are out there!! We only need protection from bad things, not everything.
9.) Distance yourself emotionally from your toxic mother.
Squeeze a rock as hard as you can and try to get water out of it. Impossible, can't be done, no matter how hard you try. We may need to come to terms with the fact that we will never get the love and nurturing we need from them. Best to distance ourselves and invest in those that will.
10.) Protect yourself by thinking for yourself.
Toxic parents send their children out onto the battlefield (real life) with no sword and no shield (life skills) to guard themselves with. If anything were to happen to us, this is their opportunity to gain attention and sympathy, many times our own mothers using our hardships as excuses to throw us under the bus and make us look like bad people. Don't give them the satisfaction. Think for yourself in every way but listening to your instincts and not doing anything that may be detrimental to your emotional, mental, or physical health.
In conclusion, a few tips to help us cope.
*can't always make it work, we all need to know it's okay to walk away.
*we need to be brutally honest and real with ourselves about the situation.
*we should drastically reduce the time we spend with them if it's bad for our health.
*we have to be careful of old patterns when we are around them, continuously reminding ourselves that we are now beyond their grasp.
*we can get professional help by seeing a therapist if we feel we need a helping hand beyond ourselves and our tribe.
*we should establish boundaries and refuse to accept disrespect and discomfort.
*we should work on our self-esteem because confidence is paramount when dealing with them and/or moving on from them.
*introspection and self-evaluation is necessary in the aftermath to identify any negative perspectives or behaviors we may have as a result.
*we need to brace ourselves and prepare to learn just as much as we have to unlearn.
More thoughts later.

Letting Go of Guilt: Embracing the Choice
As a working parent, it is crucial to let go of any guilt or self-doubt that may arise. While it is natural to feel torn between work and family obligations, it is important to remember that you are making a conscious choice to provide for your family while pursuing your career aspirations. "Timely reminders about how you are doing it for the well-being of the family will go a long way in preventing you from making rash decisions." – Haebix
Embracing Imperfection: Finding the Right Balance
Striving for perfection in both parenting and work can be overwhelming and counterproductive. Instead, allow yourself to be human and acknowledge that some days will be better than others. It is essential to set realistic goals for yourself and accept that achieving the perfect work-life balance every day may not be feasible. Focus on finding a healthy work-life integration over a reasonable period of time rather than expecting perfection on a daily basis. Embracing imperfection will alleviate unnecessary stress and allow you to give your best in both personal and professional realms.
Seeking Support: Asking for Help
One of the most important tips for working parents is to recognize the value of seeking support. It truly takes a village to raise a child, and reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness but strength. Utilize your support system, whether it be family, friends, or a trusted Playschool & Daycare near you, to share the responsibilities of caregiving. Effective communication and delegation of responsibilities with your partner are also crucial in maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Remember, asking for help is not a reflection of your abilities as a parent or employee but a strategic decision to ensure the well-being of your family and career.
Mastering Time Management: The Power of Planning
Effective time management is the key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Utilize calendars, planners, and digital tools such as Google Calendar to stay organized and keep track of important dates and commitments. By proactively scheduling and prioritizing both work and personal activities, you can avoid scheduling conflicts and reduce unnecessary stress. Setting aside dedicated time for specific activities, such as quality time with your children or focused work sessions, allows you to be fully present and minimizes distractions. Remember, a well-planned day sets the foundation for a productive and fulfilling work-life balance.
Staying Connected: Quality Time and Communication
One of the challenges faced by working parents is the limited amount of time they can spend with their children. However, it is essential to make the most of the time you do have together and prioritize quality interactions. Use your lunch break or other breaks during the day to connect with your child through video calls or phone conversations. Engaging in meaningful conversations and actively listening to their experiences can help foster a strong bond and make them feel valued and connected to you. Hearing your child's voice in the middle of a busy workday can also provide a much-needed boost of motivation and joy.
Carving Out Me Time: Self-Care for Working Parents
Amidst the demands of work and parenting, it is crucial for working parents to prioritize self-care. Taking care of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being is essential to maintain a healthy work-life balance. It may seem counterintuitive to take time for yourself when time is already limited, but self-care is vital for your overall happiness and effectiveness in all areas of life. Whether it's enjoying a hobby, practicing mindfulness, or simply taking a few moments to relax, make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup, and by prioritizing self-care, you are better equipped to meet the needs of your family and career.
Establishing Boundaries: Creating a Supportive Work Environment
Creating a supportive work environment is crucial for working parents to thrive. Employers should recognize the unique challenges faced by working parents and provide flexibility whenever possible. Offering flexible work schedules, remote work options, and generous parental leave policies can greatly enhance work-life balance for employees. A supportive work culture that values work-life integration and understands the importance of family commitments can boost morale and productivity. Employers should also encourage open communication and provide resources for working parents to navigate the challenges they may encounter.
As a working parent, best to find nearby play schools in your location can be immensely helpful in managing your child's education and care while you focus on your professional responsibilities.
Nurturing Professional Development: Continued Growth
As a working parent, it is important to continue nurturing your professional growth and development. Many working parents fear that starting a family may hinder their career progression, but with the right support and strategies, it is possible to excel in both realms. Seek out opportunities for professional development, whether it's attending conferences, enrolling in online courses, or networking with like-minded professionals. Communicate your career goals and aspirations to your employer, and explore ways to align your personal and professional objectives. By investing in your professional growth, you not only enhance your career prospects but also set a positive example for your children.
Celebrating Wins: Acknowledging Achievements
In the journey of balancing work and parenting, it is important to celebrate achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Recognize and acknowledge the milestones you have reached, both personally and professionally. Take pride in the hard work and dedication you put into your career and family. By celebrating wins, you cultivate a positive mindset and boost your motivation to continue striving for balance. Share your successes with your loved ones and seek their support and encouragement. Remember, every step forward is a testament to your resilience and commitment to creating a harmonious life as a working parent.
Embracing the Journey: A Continuous Process
Balancing work and parenting is an ongoing journey that requires constant adaptation and recalibration. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, and what works for one working parent may not work for another. Embrace the uniqueness of your situation and be open to experimenting with different strategies and approaches. Be patient with yourself and allow room for flexibility and growth. By adopting a proactive and resilient mindset, you can navigate the complexities of work and parenting with grace and confidence. Remember, the journey towards achieving a harmonious work-life balance is as important as the destination itself.
"Strive for progress, not perfection. Embrace the journey of balancing work and parenting, and celebrate the small victories along the way." – Haebix
As a working parent, you have the power to create a fulfilling life that encompasses both professional success and a nurturing family environment. The Benefits Of Modern Slavery Training
Modern slavery is the behaviour or practice of using threats, coercion, or deception to exploit people and their freedom. It can happen to people of all ages usually belonging to socially or financially deprived communities and prevails in major economies around the world. Examples of modern slavery include child labour, debt bondage, human trafficking, forced labour, etc.
Since the victims of such abuse and exploitation are incapable of fighting for themselves due to unawareness or lack of resources, it is the duty of all businesses to check their operations and supply chain for potential modern slavery risks. Unless all organisations engage their employees and suppliers to identify and report modern slavery, it will continue.
The first step for businesses towards staying compliant with anti-modern slavery laws is to provide competent training to their employees and all concerned personnel in their supply chain. Training can help curb the exploitation. Let’s look at some other benefits of training.
The Benefits of Modern Slavery Training
1. Increased Awareness
The most important purpose of modern slavery training is to increase awareness and share ways of identifying it within their organisation or supply chain. If employees do not know what to look for, they are likely not to raise any concerns they may have. Proper information helps them identify right from wrong. Also, modern slavery training helps employees know when and how to report such incidences.
2. Keeping Up to Date with Changing Laws
Modern slavery and compliance laws keep changing regularly. Continuing operations and activities based on obsolete laws can decrease their efficiency and increase the risks of malpractices and non-compliance. Regular training can help inform employees and suppliers of the changed norms and clearly state the standards of behaviour expected from them to comply with these laws.
3. Relevant Course Content
Online modern slavery training programs help design and impart relevant information to all employees. Providing the same information to every level of the organisation might not produce the desired results. As employees’ responsibilities and roles change, so must the information being provided. Online modern slavery training is the best way to fulfil this requirement.
4. Enhanced Learning and Engagement
Every employee is entitled to appropriate knowledge enhancement opportunities. Training is the right way to help your employees brush up their knowledge about modern slavery and the ways to avoid it. Including them in such training activities can also enhance their participation in finding any case of exploitation in your organisation. Better learning opportunities gives rise to better engagement as employees feel valued.
5. Increased Compliance
Modern slavery compliance requirements not only hold an organisation responsible for checking exploitation in their operations and supply chain, compliance laws also require businesses to train their employees to fight against this social evil. High employee engagement can only be attained through proper guidance and training. Hence, by implementing training, organisations may also fulfil their compliance obligations.
