Shanks wouldn't be interested sun as a teenager because he would be like in adult mode just protect and Stan and patting her head. It's not like he brought her up. She's just there. But when he returns she's a woman and she has changed. He's like wow. They're not in any kind of father daughter relationship so it's just natural progression of two people who were around one another
Ngl, when I woke up this morning and saw this -
Tumblr media
my first thought was "great, here we fucking go..." and was all ready to just go in there like (ąø‡'Ģ€-'́)ąø‡šŸ’¢ but OMG you get it!!!
Shanks saved her her, yes. He kept tabs on her, yes. Because he is a good man and because he had a very good reason that is super spoilery 🤫
But he is out there, living a whole ass life while Sun is waiting for him to come back. She's a tiny (yet undoubtedly important part) of his life while she makes him into her whole entire world.
Tumblr media
There is a bit before Shanks leaves where Ben basically tells him "it's commendable that you refuse to notice how much she's grown up since we've found her, but you're not doing her a favour by pretending you don't see the way she's looking at you."
Then ten years pass before they see each other again and they've both lived and grown and changed. And when they meet again and fall in love with each other, it's not just his feelings that are changing, hers are not the same as well.
Yes, Shanks "suddenly" sees her as a desirable woman and all that new and exiting stuff, but Sun is not a naive teenage girl anymore - she sees Shanks for who he is, not the hero fantasy she'd made of him when she was a girl and she wants him just as he is.
And yet, even though they both feel like this and even though there absolutely nothing wrong about it, there are still reservations about it that Shanks has to work through before he feels like he can allow himself to really fall for Sun.
And yeah... I don't know why I wrote all this when you were literally on board with this from the go šŸ˜‚
Anyways, thank you for not being mean ā¤ļø

ghost getting himself a cute, soft girl he doesn't talk about much but is clearly obsessed with and price just thinks it's nice he's finally settled down, approves of the home he's made for himself, definitely approves of the one he's taken for himself.
soap asks kyle if he's seen you and he says, "yep. lovely bird he's got tucked away in her little dollhouse. makes great food, too." soap swears there's a subtle shift in his tone when he says "lovely", a hint of something deeper that flickers in his eyes for just a moment. soap simply sucks on his teeth, letting it slide. (although he knows that kyle's always been one to appreciate the good things in life.)
interest gnaws at him, a persistent itch he can't scratch. price likes you just fine, as does kyle. well what about him? he decides to bite the bullet and goes to simon with a knot between his brows, the corners of his lips tugged downwards. they've shared clothes, bullets, beds. if the other two got to meet you, why can't he?
"ya can come over for dinner on tonight. she'd 'ave my neck if she didn't formally meet ya anyway."
soap then asks, out of genuine curiosity more than anything else, if simon would have kept you in the dark from him hadn't he brought you up himself.
"ya meet 'er when i want ya to, boy, and not a moment before." the tone he takes is unmistakeable. his words are a command, not a suggestion, and soap instantly knows to not push further.
soap nods. "ah'll be there."
"course ya will. she'd be terribly disappointed otherwise."
yeah, he'd hate to have that.
soap sits in the living room, the soft glow of the lamp casting a warm light over the cozy place. with a full stomach and an unfastened belt, nursing a glass of kentucky. he can't remember the last time he ate that well or that much.
maybe it's the alcohol that loosens his tongue, or the fact that he wishes he also had a sweet little thing to keep at his side just like simon's doing with you now, but the thoughts he's been mulling over all evening since he first saw you tumble out of his mouth.
"while ah can attest to yer taste in sweethearts, can't say much about your alcohol. bourbon, LT?" he says, chest warm.
simon's arm tightens around your hips, fingers splayed possessively over your thigh. he shrugs, completely unbothered by the backhanded compliment. "can't be perfect in everythin', can we, sergeant?"
soap's cheeks burn furiously hot when you come to his defense with a smack of your palm onto simon's chest. "be nice to johnny. he's got a face that make up for some of his other flaws."
the teasing lilt in your voice unashamedly gets his southern blood pumping. he can't help it if certain things stir when someone as pretty as you look at him like that. soap swirls the amber liquid gently in the glass while keeping his limpid eyes on you, not even trying to hide the fact that his gaze hasn't wavered since your cheeky little comment.
you then whisper something in simon's ear, your cupped hand not even half the size of his head and soap has to rearrange himself from the outside when your teeth catch your bottom lip. simon looks up at you then, eyes heavy and half lidded, and a smirk plays at the corners of his mouth.
"'m not sure, love. you'll just 'ave to ask 'im yourself. go on."
you open that sweet mouth of yours, but simon cuts you off with a decisive wave of his hand. "no. you know how to ask for things."
your reaction to that is visceral, and you're on your knees faster than his alcohol-muddled brain can comprehend. don't look down 'er shirt, don't look down 'er shirt, don't-
"johnny, will you touch my pussy?"
he splutters at your question, completely taken aback, but it seems you're not done just yet.
"hands to yourself, sergeant. tha' not all."
you pout at simon, one that earns you a look that promises consequence, but do as he says.
"will you touch my pussy, johnny? pretty please?"

When I was your age, I'd get angry all the time… you know?Ā  Kids thought it was funny, so they'd steal my things and push me around.Ā  I was kind of small.Ā  So I'd get angry and… and hit somebody.Ā  Teachers would get mad.Ā  You know, they never saw what the other kids did.Ā  Everybody thought I was… terrible, even Smurf.Ā  I guess maybe I was pretty awful.Ā  The only person that was nice to me was my sister.Ā  Your dad was the second.Ā  And then your mom.Ā  I promised them I was gonna take care of you and I'm gonna do that, okay?

Eddie almost becomes a 4th of July finger loss statistic and runs into a pair of sailors in the ER
cw: medical terminology, references to canon-typical gore
-
Eddie can feel his uncle’s glare from the seat next to him. He’s resolutely ignoring it and also attempting to ignore the pulsing pain in his hand, which he’s currently pressing a damp kitchen towel to.
Wayne, apparently, isn’t having it. ā€œYou know how many people blow their fingers off on this day every year, boy?ā€ He says slowly.
Eddie presses his lips together. When he can’t hold his thoughts back anymore he half-whispers, ā€œLast time I checked, all my fingers were still attached to my body.ā€
ā€œThey better continue to be that way by tomorrow morning.ā€ Wayne huffs and leans back in his chair. Arms crossed tight over his chest.
They sit in silence for about 5 minutes before the doors to the emergency room practically fly open. The sudden movement draws Eddie’s eye.
He’s met with possibly the last thing he expects. The first thing he registers is that two of the people who just entered appear to be dressed like cartoon sailors, and that one of the sailors also appears to have been recently hit by a car, then the car reversed, and ran him over again.
The second thing he realizes is that the roadkill sailor is the one and only Steve Harrington. Not only is he Steve Harrington, he’s Steve Harrington, clearly on drugs.
ā€œHopper, we told you,ā€ Harrington attempts to sound convincing while teetering precariously with every step, ā€œwe feel fine. I don’t even think this is as bad as last time. Nobody even… smashed anything into my head.ā€
The other sailor, whom Eddie has just identified as Robin Buckley, band kid and on Eddie’s short list of suspected fellow freaks.
ā€œNope!ā€ Robin giggles, ā€œjust ripped a few fingernails out.ā€ She wiggles her own fingers in front of Hopper’s face, which at the moment is locked in a simultaneously horrified and exasperated expression.
Now that attention has been called to it, and all of Robin’s fingers seem intact, Eddie sneaks a glance at Harrington’s hands, the left one of which appears to have bandages that are becoming soaked through with blood on the index and middle fingers.
ā€œMaybe nothing got smashed into you, but Wheeler mentioned something about you smashing a certain commandeered vehicle into a certain Camaro.ā€ Hopper leans in and speaks in a growl Eddie assumes he thinks passes for whispering, while directing Harrington and Buckley into matching plastic chairs to the one Eddie is currently occupying.
He gapes at them and blinks a few times before turning to see what his uncle thinks of this whole scene. He finds Wayne watching the newcomers with a slight squint to his eyes and a slight raise to his right eyebrow. A clear sign that he is equal parts concerned, Eddie would assume for the obvious poor condition of at least one of the teens, and intrigued, but not intrigued enough to risk intervening and complicating his already very mentally taxing evening.
Before he can do anything about any part of this scenario, a nurse calls Eddie’s name and in a blink he’s being led into the next stage of the hell of his own making. At first it’s several minutes of answering questions, nurses looking very intently at the half burn/half gash in his hand, and antiseptic. Finally he’s left alone for a few moments while they let the topical numbing cream set in.
There are two other beds in the section he’s been taken to. One of them is currently occupied by an older man, accompanied by a younger woman in a plastic chair next to him. Both of them appear to be fast asleep. The other bed is empty. Or at least, it is until there’s a commotion from the hallway, and the sailors are being ushered in Eddies direction, toward the bed next to his. Eddie catches bits of the conversation that leads to the two-high-teenagers-for-one deal he’s about to get.
Robin’s almost frantic voice, ā€œNo! They can’t separate us! Last time we got split up-ā€œ
ā€œIt’ll be fine, Rob, these guys are probably American.ā€ Steve cuts her off nonsensically. Eddie kind of wishes he was on whatever stuff Steve was right now.
ā€œConsidering what you’ve tried to explain so far, I don’t know how much better that is.ā€ Robin says, giggling again.
Steve clumsily grabs her hand with his right one, reaching across is own body awkwardly to get to her, and missing on the first attempt. ā€œYou also need to get looked at, little miss ā€˜ask me tomorrow’.ā€
Robin cringes at him, ā€œOk now I will leave you alone so you don’t call me ā€˜little miss’ again.ā€
Eddie watches the nurses lead Robin further down the hallway, and Steve to the bed next to his own. They’re left alone briefly after Steve gets settled and the nurse has rushed off to find a doctor.
The other teen stares almost blankly at him for a long moment before he exclaims suddenly, startling Eddie, ā€œMunson! From Biology! That’s why you seem familiar.ā€
ā€œHarrington,ā€ Eddie replies, ā€œyou are aware we shared more classes than the one Biology period, right?ā€
Harrington blinks slowly with the eye that isn’t swollen shut. ā€œNo, actually, I dunno if you noticed, but I was sort of an asshole in high school, soā€¦ā€ he wobbles his head back and forth, ā€œI kind of only remember that time you passed out when we dissected that cow eye.ā€
ā€œAh,ā€ Eddie rolls his eyes and nods, ā€œso you were an asshole in high school, but you’re not anymore. Got it.ā€ He’s really going over the top with the sarcasm, but Harrington doesn’t seem to catch on.
ā€œYup. Earlier Robin said that I really was, but I’m not anymore, and she’s usually right about most things, even though it’s super annoying when she is right, because she won’t shut up about it, and she remembers stuff, like how many times I’m wrong and what I’m wrong about and what I ate for breakfast in Mrs. Click’s class and-ā€œ
He’s cut off by the nurse from before returning. ā€œSorry for making you wait, hon, it’s a real circus here tonight. While we wait for the doctor, I’m gonna get you set up with some fluids. The EMTs said you were pretty dehydrated.ā€
When she brandishes the needle in preparation for placing the IV, Eddie notices all the color that isn’t bruising drain from Harrington’s face. He tries to subtly scoot away from her, but the movement is a little too rushed to come from anywhere but a sense of panic.
ā€œO-oh, no that’s, I’m okay, no-no thanks.ā€ He stutters out, his breath coming in quick and shallow now.
ā€œOh, hon, it’s okay to be afraid of needles,ā€ the nurse says sweetly, ā€œjust look away and take deep breaths, and it’ll be over in a pinch.ā€
Harrington winces at that. ā€œI-I’m really- it’s- I’m fine, you don’t-ā€œ
He stops abruptly when what sounds like a screamed ā€œNo!ā€echoes from down the hallway. It takes half a second longer for Eddie to place the voice as Robin Buckley’s than it apparently takes Steve, because Eddie blinks and Harrington’s off the bed and rushing toward the voice with a half-shouted ā€œRobin!ā€
The nurse, it seems, is just as stunned as Eddie, and it’s a few seconds before she’s racing after him down the hallway.
It isn’t until his stitches are almost halfway done that Harrington returns, now closely followed by Chief Hopper, and lead gingerly by the elbow by the nurse. The IV situation appears to have been solved, as he is now rolling a drip bag on a stand with his free hand.
Once Harrington is returned to his bed, Hopper leans over him slightly in what Eddie recognizes as his attempt to be intimidating. ā€œNow listen closely, Harrington. You are going to stay right there in this bed, and do whatever Annette here asks you to do until I get back. Do I make myself clear?ā€
Steve stares at him open mouthed for a moment, before he starts giggling. ā€œHuh, Mike’s right, you do have a little vein that pops out rightā€¦ā€ he reaches up to try and poke Hopper in the forehead.
Before Hopper smacks his hand away, Eddie notices a thick band of bruising around Harrington’s wrist, adding to the already massive pile of questions he has about whatever series of events led to those two landing themselves here.
Steve is still giggling when Hopper stands back up, dragging a hand down his face. ā€œLook. Just stay put for 20 minutes. Someone still has to call your damn parents.ā€
ā€œGood luck with that,ā€ Harrington says wearily to Hopper’s back as he retreats back toward the waiting room.
With all the commotion, Eddie almost forgets he’s currently getting his hand sewn back together. A distraction he’s secretly grateful for, since he was starting to get a little light headed thinking about it.
ā€œWell, Eddie, that should be it,ā€ the doctor says, patting the fresh bandage gently, ā€œI’ll get someone to take care of your discharge papers and you’ll be on your way.ā€
Eddie gives a thumbs up with the hand that did not get nearly exploded several hours ago. As the doctor leaves, Eddie realizes he is once again left alone with Harrington. He can only handle about two minutes of the silence before he blurts out. ā€œOk, man, I’m dying to know. What the hell happened to you? You look like you rolled down a rocky cliffside for like a day straight.ā€
Harrington chuckles, ā€œI feel like that.ā€ He doesn’t say anything for a long moment before he apparently realizes Eddie asked him a question. ā€œOh, uh, the mall burned down.ā€
ā€œStarcourt? The brand new mall?ā€
Harrington nods. ā€œYup.ā€ He pops the p.
ā€œWh-ā€ Eddie blinks at him in disbelief, ā€œand you and Buckley..?ā€
ā€œWe were there, yeah.ā€ He says it so nonchalantly Eddie almost thinks he’s messing with him.
ā€œRightā€¦ā€ Eddie starts, not sure where he’s going before one of the questions swirling around his brain tumbles out of his mouth ā€œso the mall was burning down and someone ripped your finger nails off?ā€
Harrington sits up straight, ā€œHow did you-?ā€
ā€œI was in the waiting room when you came in,ā€ Eddie answers in a rush, ā€œoverheard you and Buckley.ā€
ā€œOh.ā€ Harrington says, then blinks slowly a few times and Eddie can almost hear him thinking. ā€œUmm, no that happened… before the fire.ā€ He finally says, frustratingly vague.
ā€œRight, and theā€¦ā€ Eddie gestures vaguely to his own face in leu of actually asking.
Harrington hums. ā€œUhh, I think… falling debrisā€¦ā€ he nods to himself, ā€œyeah, you know, chunks of burning mall.ā€ He mimes something falling from the sky and makes a cartoon explosion sound. Eddie’s not totally inclined to believe him, especially since he just noticed the finger shaped bruising on Harringtons arms.
ā€œYou think?ā€ He presses.
Harrington huffs, almost like a kid throwing a tantrum. ā€œLook man, I’m like super ultra concussed and on some kind of mystery drugs so my memory is likeā€¦ā€ he flaps a hand around for a second, then lands on a thumbs down, ā€œat the moment.ā€
Eddie nods. ā€œRight, yeah, sorry.ā€ Eddie puts his uninjured hand up in surrender, ā€œJust, my curious nature, man.ā€
Steve shrugs, then winces. ā€œOkay, my turn.ā€ He points to Eddie’s bandaged hand, ā€œWhat happened there?ā€
ā€œAwesome firework experiment gone wrong.ā€ Eddie says, deliberately not elaborating. It’s apparently enough for Steve who nods knowingly.
Another silence settles over the room, this time less awkward, but Eddie still feels the need to break it. ā€œOkay this is my last question for real.ā€ Harrington sighs, but motions for him to go on. ā€œThe outfit?ā€
He squints at Eddie for a moment. ā€œDid you ever like, actually go to the mall?ā€
ā€œOnce. And it confirmed my suspicions that the whole thing was a capitalist nightmare that I in no way belonged within a thousand foot radius of.ā€ Eddie proclaiming proudly.
Steve looked at him like he was speaking Spanish. ā€œUm, sure. Yeah. That’s probably true.ā€ He picks at some of the blood that has dried on the collar of his shirt. ā€œRobin and I work, or, I guess worked, now that it doesn’t exist anymore, but, anyway it’s this ice cream place, and it’s like, ocean themed for some reason, so… sailors.ā€
The mood seems to have shifted slightly. Harrington’s no longer looking at him, instead focusing on his shoes, which also appear to be smudged with blood. No trace of the half smile that had been lingering from his random fits of giggles. With the way he’s fidgeting, it almost seems like he’s nervous.
Eddie decides the best way out of this is to pretend like he doesn’t notice and hope he can get the vibe back on track. ā€œThat sounds like the most ridiculous business I’ve ever heard of.ā€
Steve lets out a halfhearted chuckle. ā€œYeah, it was pretty stupid.ā€
They are both saved from trying to come up with a new direction for the conversation to go by the entrance of Robin Buckley, who is toting her own rolling stand of IV fluid with her.
ā€œDingus!ā€ She calls, and Eddie notes the way Harrington relaxes slightly at seeing her. ā€œI’m completely healthy!ā€
Steve mimes clapping and Robin bows dramatically. ā€œI… am not.ā€
Robin taps his knee. ā€œI could have probably told you that.ā€ Her gaze scans the room, then catches on him. ā€œHey, you’re the guy that runs the D&D group, right?ā€
ā€œIn the flesh,ā€ Eddie says, spreading his arms wide.
Robin cringes again. ā€œEw, don’t say flesh. I’ve had too much flesh for one day.ā€
Steve nods next to her. ā€œHe blew up his hand with fireworks.ā€
Robin gasps, ā€œReally?ā€ She turns to Steve, ā€œI totally thought we were gonna do that, butā€ she holds out her hands, and while they themselves seem fine, Eddie notices the bruising on her wrists that match Harrington’s, ā€œall my fingers. Intact.ā€
ā€œThat makes one of us,ā€ he smirks and makes eye contact with Eddie.
ā€œDid you know that on the Fourth of July, over 30% of hospital visits are related to injuries from fireworksā€ Robin says unprompted.
ā€œWhy would I know that.ā€ Steve says flatly, ā€œWhy do you know that?ā€
Robin shrugs, ā€œI read.ā€
It’s then that a nurse comes back to get Eddie out of there. As he goes, Steve waves a goodbye to him that he awkwardly returns. As he leaves them behind he hears Robin ask, ā€œDid Johnathan Byers cut open a girl’s leg, or was that the drugs?ā€
He shakes his head as he returns to the waiting room, resigned to never have answers to his mountain of questions.

When Batman ā€œabductsā€ Jason, he offers him a deal. Since Jason is concerned about staying with Bruce Wayne, and to show that he’s not abandoning the child to be trafficked, he agrees to a ā€œwellness checkā€ once a week, for an hour.
Anything that Bruce Wayne does that makes Jason uncomfortable, he can report to Batman. And if he does any of the things Jason’s worried about, Batman gives him a panic button.
At the first welfare visit, Batman asks about how Jason is acclimating to the manor.
It takes a lot of prodding for Jason to admit that he wants a lock on his door and that he likes Alfred. That he can’t tell what Bruce is thinking a lot of the time and he doesn’t like the ominous silences.
What’s truly crazy, is that after the meeting, Alfred asks him to help install a lock on his door that only works from the inside. And the next day, when he sees Bruce at breakfast, the man starts recounting some of his day at work, regardless of if Jason joins in. He lays out his plans for the day and his reasoning. Just, talks about innocuous things.
He asks Batman what he shared with Bruce at the next meeting. Batman tells him that he spoke with Alfred about the lock but with Bruce about voicing his thoughts more. He asks if it helped.
Jason says yes, but he’s confused as to why Bruce would want to change at all. Or why Batman told him about those sorts of things. After all, they weren’t that big of a deal.
And Batman tries to explain that Jason shouldn’t be uncomfortable. That his goal is to make sure he’s not just safe, but happy.
Slowly, over the course of a few months, Jason opens up to Batman about different things. Everything he confesses is fixed, whether it be people he knew on the streets being arrested or helped out or even just small things about Bruce, like how he doesn’t make any noise when he walks and keeps startling him.
Jason feels himself relaxing around Batman of all people. He even looks forward to their weekly welfare checks so he can ask about the people he knew in Crime Alley.
He’s also making progress on the Alfred front since he’s allowing him to wash his own dishes and teaching him to cook.
But Bruce remains a problem.
He doesn’t know what it is. He’s really trying to trust the guy, he’s done everything Jason has asked of him through Batman. Everything, no matter how stupid Jason felt asking for it.
So he asks Batman what’s wrong with him. He tells him he wants to like Bruce, he really does, there’s nothing wrong with the guy. Batman was right. He’s just some awkward lonely dude in a giant house. So why won’t his mind let Jason trust him?
Batman tells him that trauma doesn’t work like that. That Jason may never fully trust Bruce, and that isn’t either of their faults. He’s trying, and that’s more than enough.
It all comes to a head when Alfred takes Jason shopping and their errands run pretty long. Jason just needs so much stuff, apparently.
It’s just starting to get dark out and he’s helping Alfred with the shopping by putting the cart away while he closes the trunk when he feels hands around his mouth.
He bites down as hard as he can against the gloves but it doesn’t help. There are two men and he can hear Alfred calling him, but he’s suddenly in another vehicle and he’s having trouble breathing.
He feels along the inside of his hoodie for his panic button and presses it.
There’s a lot of jeering and talk amongst his kidnappers, they’re excited for a payday. And Jason was easy pickings.
The ransom is a video where Jason is wearing a gag and told to briefly look into the camera while people talk over him, making threats and demands.
He knows something is wrong when all the lights go out in the room. He feels hands around him and starts to kick out until he’s face to face with a shadow he’s seen before. Batman is here for him.
Jason goes boneless in the hold and Batman gets him outside.
No one realized one of the kidnappers had made it onto the roof. Batman takes one bullet in the shoulder before they’re both in the Batmobile. Jason is crying and holding gauze to the hole in the armor while Batman talks softly and assures him he’s fine. Jason has no clue how the car gets them away but he’s thankful he doesn’t have to figure out what to do except put pressure on the wound.
When the doors to the batmobile open, Alfred is there and hauling them into what looks like a chrome emergency room. There are medical cots and equipment everywhere.
Alfred start pulling away the armor and Jason sits in shock as the cowl is removed and Batman sits before him as Bruce Wayne.
He’s gently shooed out of the medical section and sits down on what appears to be training mats. He doesn’t realize he’s crying until Alfred comes to fetch him and Bruce is no longer in danger from the bullet.
Bruce looks exhausted in the moment before he sees Jason and his expression clears entirely. Jason feels a numb sort of dread spill over him as he realizes the implications of what he’s seeing. All of the things he’d admitted. All of the things Bruce had done for him. That if the bullet had struck somewhere else he’d be all alone.
He’s crying again and finally Bruce’s face changes into something that isn’t that awful blankness. He looks like he’s in pain but he reaches his arm out towards Jason anyway.
And Jason practically folds into him, crying into the bandages Alfred had wrapped around Bruce.
Bruce is whispering things into his hair. Gentle things. Kind things. Reassurances and asking if Jason is okay, because he was the one who was kidnapped, the one who had been snatched from a parking lot.
But Jason can’t process it, any of it. So he stays there, crying into Bruce’s uninjured shoulder until he’s scooped up into the medical cot to cry into his chest too.
There will have to be several long conversations about everything that had happened, but they would have to wait until tomorrow.
