I wonder when the Greek myths were concocted if the preachers was trying to make it as a cautionary tale about what happens if too much incest.

This is just idle speculation on my part anyway and not true at all, I think. It's just that the line I've always heard Greek mythology being the way it is because the Greeks themselves used it as an explanation of why life and the forces of nature are the way they are, right? Nature is crazy and capricious because the gods are crazy and capricious. So I end up thinking that, from a narrative stand point, that could've probably been fairly integrated with why the Greek mythological family tree is so rampantly incestuous; like I mean, what do we know of families in real life where this happens a lot? How is the the state of the mental health in those families? Or regular health? What happens to the mindset of people when their own family beds them? We get weird birth defects; repeated, compulsive, gleeful sexual molestation; sicknesses and mental health issues up the wazoo the further and more repeatedly ingrained it goes. And how is that in so many ways exactly what the Greek gods are?

the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

I know this is an incredible niche-thing to say, but I kind of really want a super-competent-soldier character of modern age to have gone really ham on like. Bayonet-fighting. But like OLD school bayonets, bayonets attached to actual rifles. He (could be a she, I won't judge, but in my head it's a he) would like do their own John Wick-like way of working through a room alternating between treating their gun as a spear and shooting people to their hearts content, just really making this stupid, long out-dated impractical fighting style REALLY their own and becoming so goddamned good at it the superior officers just give up on trying to point that out to him.
