Xander usually spent his day off getting to all of his errands. Laundry, cleaning the house, calling his siblings to let them know he was still alive and okay. But he had been up since earlier than expected and had checked off his list pretty quickly. And he knew Devin was probably at home working so he figured he could swing by and hopefully get his friend to enjoy the day with him. His sister had encourage him to try to do it more often. To let his friends know he liked spending time with them so he made a quick stop and by the time he was standing at Devin's door, he was holding up a six pack of diet cokes and large cup of ice from the gas station. He was smiling when Devin opened the door. "I came to bribe you to come take a drive with me."

WOAH BROSKI ! So, I hit a mini milestone a little while ago but we all know how I am with doing things on time ( wut? katie? do shit in a reasonable amount of time? bruh ). Anyway. I thought it would be a nice idea to make a cute, lil’ tiny ‘follow forever’ to express how much this lazy bish appreciates and loves all of the people that put up with her very unimportant ooc posts and very slow replies.

❝ listen. We have about three-hundred ships together ( reality; there’s only twelve but I’m just preparing because we’re always talking about adding more ). Basis, we both suck at limiting our number of threads together and we always say we’re going to finish the twenty-something we have before starting anything else and then — BAM — these magical threads just appear? Out of nowhere? It’s far from a bad thing considering I suppose I love ya’, sometimes, when you’re not being an evil angst genius. Though I suppose I like you to some extent during that too. Your muses are filled with glitter and gold, except Kat, she’s a nut but we love her anyway. Bread thinks you need to make her cakes in cups or she’ll break your window but that’s normal. This is getting long and really, I’m just rambling at this point ( ha, rambling Alas ). Anyway, to sum it up, you’re one amazing Turtle and you’re stuck with me just as much as Ella is stuck with the Big Blonde Teddy Bear. ❞

Except Blaise and Melody because she’s going to strange my poor boy in his sleep one of these days if he doesn’t take the foot out of his mouth. Which will probably never happen SO, yeah. "I don't know man, I think you're selling yourself a little short here," he told him in all honesty. "Plus, I'm a fan of yours so me and your mom, that makes two. And I'm pretty sure the number is more than two," he added, wanting him to know that he was there to encourage this confidence. Even when Devin wasn't receptive. Xander's smile faltered at Devin's comment, feeling a little embarrassed and a bit misunderstood but he felt like he was wrong for even feeling it so he stuffed it down and filed it away. Maybe he just didn't see it the way Devin would but hopefully he would one day. "Nothing crazy. no jumping out of planes or anything, just a small gift. Gesture, really If you hate it you can throw them away," he said with a shrug, hoping that didn't give off too much of a hint. "Or I don't know, I'll just have an excess of this thing and a funny story to tell. Maybe."

"No, they aren't in the newspaper they got their own comic book series and have for decades," Devin stated. "I don't read 'em or anything but they're an example of a comic that isn't all about superheroes," he explained. Even if Devin wasn't a fan it had quite a large fan base to be in publication for as long as it had been. Devin scoffed at the thought of someone giving him cookies for no reason. "I highly doubt that. I don't think I have any fans outside of my mother," he exaggerated. He certainly didn't have the sort of success his father had seen though. Devin knew what it was like to have lived with someone who's work was held in quite high acclaim with the right people and even then Devin couldn't think of a time anyone made his dad cookies. "Yeah, I'm sure it's really tough to be attractive," Devin said unable to not laugh at Xander's comment. It was sentiment Devin couldn't relate to but he'd gone through a lot of work to get to be someone he was somewhat comfortable being. Devin would've killed to have just been born a conventionally attractive man that would've saved him a lot of steps in life.

Devin grabbed one of the cookies from the tin and continued to hold it in his lap. "Uhhh, what kind of surprise is it?" Devin asked. Truthfully he wasn't a fan of surprises and Xander showing up and taking Devin away from his day was already a pretty big shake up but it wasn't a question you actually could be honest with.

"The one that's in the newspaper? Yeah I guess now that you mention it, I've seen those. Always get a kick out of Dagwood." He smiled for a moment to himself as he thought about mornings at the Young dining table. His parents exchanging newspaper pages while he and his sisters fought over eggs and bacon portions. It was enough to almost make him tear up but he shook the thought away like he did every memory lately. "Hey well there's still time. I'm sure one day a very big fan of yours will be giving you cookies for no reason." Xander was sure of that and he grabbed one before handing the box to Devin so he could help himself if he wanted one. "I don't mind it," he admitted, "But sometimes it kind of feels like people are just looking at me like I'm some guy on a poster," he admitted. "Not to sound ungrateful but being the hot guy was kind of who I've been most of life. Gets tiring after a while. That probably sounds silly," he ended with, momentarily regretting opening up that way so he just kept his eyes on the road as he signaled to turn onto the next block. "So, before I get too excited, I should probably ask, how do you feel about surprises?"

"Yeah, I don't mind not being busy," Devin said. He was financially pretty comfortable and his main source of income didn't really even come from his own artistic pursuits so not having anything to work on for a while wouldn't have much effect on the operation of Devin's day to day life. While Devin had faced more than his fair share of heartbreaks and struggles money had never been an issue for him and likely never will be due to the legacy his father left behind. "Yeah, there's tons of comics that aren't about superheroes. Haven't you ever read Archie Comics before?" Devin asked. He wasn't a reader of those really but they were located at nearly every register and magazine stand he's ever come across nestled up by the TV Guides. Devin was used to seeing that ginger and his gang of friends all over.

Devin didn't mind waiting in the car as Xander completed his first errand. He wasn't completely surprised that Xander got special treatment. He was objectively a very fit and handsome man in a profession that people revered. "She must be," Devin confirmed. "I've never gotten cookies from someone just for showing up somewhere."

"Don't worry about it, if we spend money then it's my treat," he promised, stepping back to allow Devin space to walk out when he was ready. "And uh, a couple places. I have a few quick pick ups. Hardware store, Windsor because I need to pick up an order of basketballs. I volunteered to help coach the elementary school team. And also I told my neighbor I'd pick up her order from the antique store. And that after all of that fun, I was thinking we either hit the diner or see a movie. Or both. We can be spontaneous people, right? I'm trying to be at least."

“Sorry, Mom, I gotta go. Someone’s at the door. I love you,” Devin said into the phone after hearing the knock at his door. He’d been in the middle of his daily phone call with his mother that was cut short by the unexpected guest at his door. Devin wasn’t expecting anyone so it was quite the surprise when he was greeted by Xander and one of his favorite sodas. He took the sodas from him. He already had a couple cans in his fridge right now but he would never turn down more. “Where are we driving to? I haven’t been to the bank in a while so I don’t have any cash right now,” he explained though he wasn’t turning down the plans. Now that his phone call was over there wasn’t anything else Devin was in the middle of and considering he set his own schedule he could up and leave his apartment when he pleased most of the time.

"I hear you. The waiting game can be nice some time, little calm before the storm and all of that." Not that Xander could relate to a creative pursuit like that. He admired people who could be so imaginative, he felt like his brain just had a block that only let him focus really on the material things right in front of him. He was better at dealing with reality. It was everything else that scared him. "Wait there are non superhero comics? See, I didn't even know that, I feel like I have so much to learn," he admitted with a bit of a nervous laugh. I'll take whatever you wanna recommend man. I'm totally new to all of this to consider me a student." He started to slow down as they got to their first stop, a quick pick up and Xander put the car in park but left the car running in Devin in the passenger seat as he ran inside. When he came out, he was holding a bag full of basketballs and a white box in his other arm. "I think the lady from Windsor is kind of sweet on me," he explained as he got back into he car, put the balls in the back and handed Devin the box. "She said she knew I was coming for the pickups today and so she baked me cookies. That's kind of like overly generous, don't you think? Or am I just not used to stuff like this?"

"Not working on much of anything this week," Devin confessed. He was in between jobs right now and waiting back to hear from others so there wasn't anything he was actively working on even though his still drew every day in some capacity. Nothing he'd created this week was worth speaking about in his opinion. "I'm just waiting to hear back about some projects so nothing exciting at all." He appreciated the break. Devin hated deadlines and it felt good not having anything looming over his head for a while. That was part of the reason he was able to just up and leave his place today if he was in the middle of a painting or a particularly time consuming sketch he would be hard to move. "Oh, yeah? Watchmen is good. I've read them a couple of times," Devin said though he wasn't usually a big superhero fan he did have an appreciation for comics of all types. "Are you just looking for superhero comics? I don't read a ton of those if I'm being honest but there's a couple of fantasy comics I really like."

Xander was most excited about the antique store because it included a pick up of a gift he had arranged to get for Devin. He usually wasn't good with surprises or gift giving or even including people in his life but after two years in Cardinal Hill, he had to admit that something was starting to rub off on him. "What have you been working on this week? Something fun?" The more that Felix taught him about all the things he considered nerdy, the more Xander enjoyed it more and more. He wondered what it was like to be someone whose imagination was so expansive that they could create other world and dream up some many ways to engage with things considered mystical. "I started reading some comic books, trying to expand my horizons and all of that. You have any recommendations? Andy favorites? Right now I've got some X-Men and Watchmen stuff. I haven't..started it yet. But I will. This week probably."

After recently learning just how much firefighters made while risking their lives he knew that Xander could certainly cover him. Still, Devin had his card on him, it wasn't like he was completely without a way of payment there were just plenty of places in town that operated primarily cash only. Hearing the laundry list of errands he was asked to tag along with didn't sound all that exciting. Truthfully, Devin had his own list of things he should be doing today as well but he was not feeling particularly motivated to accomplish much. Besides, he was his most creative in the evenings anyways so it wasn't like he'd be tackling much of his tasks for a while. "Uhh, yeah, sure. I'll just put these in the fridge and grab some shoes," Devin answered. Even though he hadn't done much with his day yet he had actually gotten dressed that morning so he didn't have to waste time getting ready. Devin brought the soda into his kitchen and quickly tucked it away in the fridge next to the already chilled variety of diet sodas Devin had on hand. He did keep one out that he poured over the ice so he had a drink to go. Caffeine was needed to do anything and while he'd already has a can of Tab with breakfast this morning he was due for more bubbles right about now. In the kitchen he grabbed his keys and wallet, double checked the stove was off and headed back to his foyer and slipped into a pair of Vans he kept by the door. "Alright, I'm ready to go," Devin said as he closed the door and locked it.
