Starter for @luposcainus | Starter Call

Ever since she’d uncovered the connection between Meta’s ex-SHIELD targets and Hydra, Lucia had found herself assigned to a great many Hydra-related cases. It made sense, she figured: SHIELD didn’t want to trust anyone from the old guard to these missions, and Lucia had already proven herself against Hydra and other shadowy, sinister organizations of the type. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder if Agent Martin was purposefully volunteering her for so many missions just to keep her away from his Meta investigation and their increasingly frequent clashes over his methods.

Whatever the reason, here she was on another Hydra assignment, sent to recover an artifact of some sort that they’d stolen. That much, she was used to dealing with, as well as the scarceness of details until she arrived on-scene to be briefed.

She wasn’t used to the briefing coming from a werewolf prince.

“It’s an honor to be here, Your Highness,” she said with a quick bow of her head. She desperately hoped her efforts to hide how nervous she felt didn’t show on her face.

You’ve worked with Avengers. Get it together, Castillo, she scolded herself.

Then again, she’d freaked out when meeting them, too.

turnabout quiz aa5 dlc translation

Turnabout Quiz was AA5′s Japan-only DLC. In the DLC, Phoenix, Apollo, Trucy, Athena and Pearl are recruited onto a quiz show in which they visit various locations in pairs to solve quiz questions (ala Professor Layton). Perhaps because the quiz questions often depend upon knowledge of Japanese culture and the Japanese language (especially the final question), this DLC was never localized outside of Japan. It is probably one of the only Japanese-only DLCs, in addition to the two DGS DLCs that aren’t present in TGAA.

I highly recommend reading through the thread linked above. You’ll need to open the spoiler tags on each post to read through the translation (which continues onto Page 2 of the thread). The full English translation is there, and I recommend reading to the very end.

I think there are teamups of at least Phoenix and Apollo, Phoenix and Trucy, Athena and Pearl, Apollo and Trucy, and Apollo and Klavier. What’s cute is that each teamup spends some time bantering about each quiz question, and some of the banter is quite cute and funny / poignant. Like for example, Phoenix and Trucy come across a puzzle about a murder victim who knows his son is the culprit, and wipes the prints from the scene before he dies. Trucy asks Phoenix if he will protect her like that if she killed him, and his response is “you shouldn’t kill me at all”. And then when Phoenix is on a conference call, he remarks “Phones these days have such amazing capabilities” and Trucy says “Daddy, if there’s something you don’t understand, you can ask me” lol helping her old Daddy with his phone... they are everything to me!

The Apollo and Klavier investigation is also quite hilarious, as is Apollo and Trucy.

What’s interesting is that you later learn that Klavier himself was in on the quiz show (Apollo perceives him and his tic, which is brushing his hair to the side. This is something he does on his AA4 sprite as well as in the manga, where Apollo perceived the same behavior). The quiz show was meant to be unscripted which is also funny. Literally, they were on a reality show without knowing it.

It’s just nice to see the characters have a little time to banter and breathe without any huge stakes or other side characters hogging the stage. This is a cute DLC.

Now, why I bring this up right now is the upcoming 456 port. This seems like a great, and probably the last, opportunity to bring Turnabout Quiz stateside. Personally, I would like to see it. If TGAA can be localized, this definitely could be by just changing up some of the quizzes. And I really hope we get to see this content localized into English beyond just this (albeit great) translation.

Hi, I'm the same person who asked about angst. XD I guess the kind of fics I enjoy the most are ones that have "kidnapping/rescue" angst. There are already hundreds of these with Lance, but I'm looking for more of these kinds of fics that feature Pidge as the one in distress. Maybe I've already read all of them, I dunno, but I was hoping maybe you could give me something new to be invested in. Thank you for responding and helping me out.

Sorry for the late response. Your question inspired me to dig deep into Ao3 to see if I could find even more of these than what I’d already bookmarked. I’m still only halfway through the Pidge tag (excluding as many irrelevant ships as I could) so this is by no means complete, but I hope you’ll find something you might not have read yet!

This is a list of fics in which Pidge is in peril. I’ve sorted them by romantic and platonic as well as a few that you’ll have to be mindful of the tags for at the very end. To narrow the focus a bit, I tried to make sure Pidge was the main or one of the main POV. This isn’t an all encompassing list. I’m sure there are some I’m missing. (If i’m missing one of your favs please tell me because I want to read it, I also just might have had a brain fart about it because I’ve been staring at the computer screen for too long)

By the time Lucia showed up at Agent Sterling’s office in the early hours of the morning, she felt a far cry from her usual perky, energetic self, and her appearance reflected that. She’d been up all night going over and over the mission report with her superiors, but the dark circles weighing down her eyes made it look like she hadn’t slept in weeks. At some point during it all, her hair had fallen out of its ponytail and was mussed from repeatedly running her hands through it. Her posture was slumped, almost hunched in on herself.

She knocked, not even considering that Agent Sterling might not be in his office so early until the door had already swung open. Doing her best to square her shoulders and look Agent Sterling in the eye, she said softly, “A while back you said if I ever had any questions I could come to you. Is that offer still good?” She swallowed. “Because they said not to talk about it with anyone involved in the op until the investigation is over, and I... I think I need help.”

“I... I know I may not look like much,” she continued, referring not only to her age and inexperience but to her short height and slight frame as well, “and I don’t have the powers or field experience that some of the other recent Academy graduates have, but I was recommended to SHIELD by Agent Coulson himself. I’m loyal and hardworking, and what I may lack in other areas, I make up for by training twice as hard.”

You’re overcompensating, she scolded herself. Just shut up and hand him the file!

Forcing her expression not to falter, she held out the manila folder in her hands. “Everything else is in my SHIELD file,” she said. Everything including the two years she spent in high school as an unregistered vigilante under the name Blackhawk. Given the illegality of it all, she tended not to advertise that time of her life at SHIELD. Or anywhere, for that matter.

Bridger stared blankly at the little TV above the bar for several seconds before she processed a word of what was being said on it, and it wasn’t only because the volume was turned so low. She’d already had a few too many to drink, and the alcohol was beginning to affect her senses.

The TV was tuned to one of those twenty-four hour Evangelical channels, and the current televangelist was spewing something about ‘abominations in the eyes of God’ and ‘a plague upon mankind.’ She didn’t have to listen hard to tell which so-called abominations he was referring to; she recognized the reverend’s face: Stryker, famous for his hatred of mutants. Men like him were what made Bridger almost wish she had the power to tap into apocalyptic fears and manifest a meteorite to hurl towards the Earth. The air surrounding her fists -- clenched tight around her beer bottle -- shimmered briefly as a familiar lethal fury flared up in her chest.

“Turn that shit off,” she growled at the bartender. He stared at her for a second before he shrugged and did as she said.

It was as she turned back to nurse her beer that she caught a second pair of eyes on her from down the bar, but they glanced away just as her own eyes landed on them. Had they caught her little slip-up with her powers? Did this mean she would have to move again, fleeing from the humans before they could think to make her their prisoner once more? Just the possibility raised her hackles again. If she were more sober, she might realize she was just itching for a fight.

“What?” she snapped at the stranger, clinging to her anger like a lifeline, “You agree with him or something?” She gestured at the blank TV.

Julie had to get away from the rest of her team for the sake of her sanity, if only for a few minutes. If she was forced to listen to one more second of Cindy and Martin’s furious bickering over their strategy in the next debate she would blow a fuse. And to think people said senior year was supposed to be the best year of high school.

She slipped unnoticed out the classroom door and retraced the path to this school’s cafeteria, where the tournament organizers had concessions set up. A few students from other schools milled around, but none of them looked familiar to Julie. Everyone she knew from her first three years doing debate had either moved on or dropped out after the Blip. 

Pushing those thoughts to the back of her mind, she slid in next to another girl in front of the coffee dispenser and grabbed a styrofoam cup to wait her turn with. Her eyes nearly passed right over the girl until she realized she actually recognized her, however slightly.

“Hey, you’re the photographer, aren’t you? From Midtown?” Julie said, “Your team’s doing really good so far.” She didn’t begrudge them that; STEM schools like Midtown always posed a challenge in these tournaments. She’d only hoped her own team could get over their petty feuds long enough to give them a fighting chance.

Lucia had often been accused of being in over her head—both as Lucia and as Blackhawk—but it was only on very rare occasions that she admitted that might be accurate.

She was beginning to think she was in over her head now.

She’d followed a shadow demon into an almost painfully sketchy warehouse, and before she’d realized there were five more hiding in the shadows, she was ambushed. When she came to, they surrounded her on all sides, cutting off any means of escape. And there was a man standing over her.

Lucia gulped.

Ten minutes into what promised to be a long wait, Julie frowned at the map on her phone screen. “I swear, she should pass through here any minute now,” she said, which was the same thing she’d said five minutes ago.

A few weeks ago, Lucia and Julie had noticed a new player on the NYC superhero scene cropping up on the internet. A new player who, rumor had it, went by Hawkeye.

Lucia had to meet her. So she and Julie had scoured social media for every known sighting of her and logged the date, time, and exact location of each of them to create a tentative map of her patrol route. And now here they were, standing at a corner that provided an excellent view in all four directions, but no Hawkeye.

Unless… A flash of red hair the same shade as the blurry Instagram photos caught Lucia’s eye, and she spun around.

Most of Lucia’s teachers eventually learned that she and Julie were a force of nature when paired together, and in classes they shared, the teachers gave up trying to pair them with anyone else. Mr. Hendricks was not one of those teachers. Mr. Hendricks was what Julie liked to call “a raging pain in the gnaester,” and he still assumed that because they talked, and laughed, and goofed off (quietly, of course) during class they weren’t also working their gnaesters off. After their first project together, they were forbidden from working together for the rest of the year.

Unfortunately, Mr. Hendricks assigned a lot of group projects, and Lucia didn’t work well with any of the other students in history, so when a new student moved into the class and Mr. Hendricks announced a big timeline project, Lucia was determined to befriend this new kid.

“Hi!” She plopped her binders onto an empty desk next to Francis’. “I’m Lucia. Wanna be partners? I’ve got a few ideas already; I was thinking we could do the rise of superheroes for our topic. It’s got to be a popular one, so if we’re gonna do it, we’ll have to nab it quick,” she said, launching right into it.

A Wronski Feint. At age thirteen, on a Cleansweep Six, Lucia Castillo had attempted a Wronski Feint, and at age thirteen, Lucia Castillo had crashed her Cleansweep Six into the Hufflepuff stands.

Adrian could kill her, but Lucia didn’t care, because she had won her game of chicken against the Hufflepuff seeker and had been the last to pull out of the dive. The problem was, in the aftermath of the ensuing concussion, she couldn’t remember if she’d caught the snitch.

“So…” she said to the rest of the team assembled around her hospital wing bed. She ignored Adrian’s scowling face on her left, choosing instead to address the Chaser, Cassie, on her right. “Did we win?”

This wasn’t a bulk supply run, this was just Steve getting a chance to be away from the kids for a bit. Not that he didn’t like them, God no he loved those kids. But they could be a lot, and there were a lot. He also wanted something different for dinner than was being prepared for the kids, so that meant he had to get his own supplies.

So he was on his own in the grocery store browsing the shelves and refrigerated cases. Maybe he should’ve brought Jamie, the kid could’ve split up into five of himself and found everything within ten minutes. But then again that would’ve defeated the purpose of coming alone.

But then Steve felt it. The feeling of being watched that had never failed him before. He glanced to the side, seeing the young man there. “Sorry, am I in the way?” Was his cart too far into the aisle instead of to the side? He scooted it over a bit just to be safe.

Adrian glanced down at the grocery list Jackie had handed him before he left home, as if it might have grown longer in the two minutes since he’d last looked at it. Nope, it still read, “tampons, Advil, CHOCOLATE!!” and nothing else. He shook his head fondly and dropped the list back into his cart, which already had copious amounts of all three items in it, deeciding to supplement the list with the ingredients for his mom’s famous risotto, Jackie’s favorite from his culinary repertoire. The situation definitely warranted it.

He had just turned his cart into the aisle for rice when Adrian saw him. At first, he assumed it was just his overactive imagination seeing things that weren’t there. After all, Jackie had quizzed him on the the man just two days ago for her latest Youtube video. On second glance, he would probably turn out to be a seventy-year-old woman, not Captain Freaking America standing in the middle of the grocery store like just another guy.

Nope, on second glance, he still looked like Captain Freaking America.

Holy shit.

Holy -- Shit, he’s talking to me! What do I do!? Wow, he’s even hotter in person... Wait, what did he say? Shit! Quick, respond!

“Hi you Adrian?”

Fuck.

“I mean -- I’m Adrian! You... are standing right here in front of my eyes.” Adrian’s entire face felt like it was on fire. If this man wasn’t actually Captain America, this would be the most humiliating encounter with a stranger he’d ever had. Actually, if he was Captain America, it would still be that. Worse, even.
