How do you keep writing even when nobody gives you kudos or comments? I struggle a lot but sometimes when your fics get not much you keep going. I don’t mean that to be mean. I just think you’re amazing for keeping on even when some fics don’t get a lot of visibility.
hello sweet anon! don’t worry, i dont think you’re being mean. of course it can get disheartening!
imagine yourself in a room of a thousand people. it’s hard, i know, because that number is insane. you get ten kudos. imagine those ten people around you, excited about the fic you’ve just written. perhaps one of them leaves a comment and is talking your ear off. the rest are just storing away the fic for future reading. they’re not vocal, but your fic has meant something to them, however small, and maybe it’ll be read again, maybe it’s just something they’ll think of fondly when they leave this room. in the grand scheme of things, perhaps your fic hasn’t resonated with the wider gathering, but these ten people have taken something you’ve read, something you’ve put time and effort into, and have loved it.
if just one person sees my fic, reads it, and likes it enough to hit that kudos button, i feel fulfilled.
we all look for different things in the content we consume. some of the most kudosed fics in fandoms don’t resonate with me. sometimes they’re just what i needed and wanted and adore. some of my most kudosed fics have been written at the height of fandom, when everyone is reading and kudosing. sometimes they have been written in a fandom long since abandoned and they get next to no visibility but a dedicated cohort of relentless fans. sometimes it’s about the quality. sometimes it’s about the content. sometimes it’s just not going to work for you, or for them.
there are a series of novels; one may be a bestseller, but the rest are lacklustre. that doesn’t mean the author is bad, just that circumstances (timing, content, word of mouth, quality, quantity) conspired to make it popular and the rest not so. there are so many factors that make a fic popular. sometimes it’s the fic you like the least that becomes popular. sometimes it’s your best work. my most kudosed fic isn’t my best, but it contains elements that resonate with a wider audience in the fandom than some of the works i think are better (in my own limited opinion).
write for yourself; think about what you want to see, what you want to explore, what you enjoy. write for your friends. if you ignore everything I’ve written here, take that away. i have a small cohort of fellow fandom people that get me, get my writing, and like the same things i do. if just one of them says “omg” to a fic i’ve written, i’m satisfied.
write because you love it. write because you love the characters, the world, the idea that’s actually made you sit down and WANT to write.
don’t write a fic because you want it to be popular. write fic because you want to. kudos, comments, and bookmarks will happen by accident or by design.
have faith in yourself, anon. if you have faith, love what you’re writing, have enthusiasm, someone out there will consume your writing and love it, and you. perhaps just one person, but the fact that you’ve touched one person is amazing!!!
(imagine if that person reached out, spoke to you, shared ideas with you, you formed a relationship and you’ve now been friends for ten years or more. that fic still has only one kudos, but you have a solid decades old friendship that wouldn’t be if you hadn’t written it. that’s the impact fics can have, regardless of popularity).
and if you ever find yourself worried, shoot me links. i consume so much fandom content and will always leave kudos when they resonate ❤️

weird and strange swap au would just be me putting Kronos in Situations for fun. oulixes trying to convince Kronos to spend time with him or get drinks in a way that verges on slightly creepy and Kronos says “uhhh sorry my wife doesn’t like me speaking to anyone else at all” And oulixes immediately switches to the “what the fuck why is your wife entirely controlling who you talk to that doesn’t sound healthy.” in my mind oulixes just randomly meets Kronos possibly at some kind of business meeting where dalilah brought Kronos with her like a purse dog. I’m just finding this really funny.
OHHHHHHHHH . Honestly a better situation than before . Is Oulixes up to nefarious stuff or is he just having fun being a scamp .

Does anyone know any fanfics where Ellie finds out the truth, her and Joel are estranged (for a short period of time) and then they talk it out? And he doesn’t die :)

I know he's a minor character that doesn't really matter but... poor Timothee 🥺 How come Astarion didn't kill him?
Also what did he do to get sentenced to the gallows?
So much like Raphael, I'm going to leave it up to people's imaginations.
What I will say is that no one deserves to be tortured to death by a devil even if they did something awful.
And that Raphael would have likely said whatever made Astarion the most upset or the most likely to do what he wanted. He was prepared to tell Astarion that he was completely innocent, or that he'd like killed children, based off Astarion's responses. He was playing a game.
Timothee didn't deserve the death he got, even if he did do terrible crimes as a human. That's kind of the ultimate point, really, no one deserves that.
Astarion didn't kill him because it's not in the contract that he has to, and he was asserting power in his own right to still make his own decisions. I think as well, he was sticking by his own inner compass, that has prevented him from killing people in the past solely for feeding. He's gone out of his way to avoid that for a year even though he doesn't have to, and he realised he still wants to avoid it.
I definitely think he saw through Raphael's game and kind of had serious disdain for it, like, I think a part of him was like 'do you really think I care what this man has done? I'll feed on him regardless, darling. And you can deal with the disposal like you intended to all along.' He was kind of demonstrating that he wasn't particularly bothered by torture (i.e. Raphael torturing him to death) - which is true, Astarion finds that kind thing of fun and interesting to think about. And he was demonstrating that he also doesn't see the point in giving a human a 'merciful death' while being manipulated at the same time.
I do think one of the reasons Raphael turns on him that same night only a short time later is not just that Raphael's turned on and has just tortured someone to death and Astarion goads him, but also that Astarion shows the most power he's shown at any point during this whole story, and walks away from Raphael in the process, which is the first time we've ever seen him do that.
Astarion made a few points in that chapter with his actions. In both...not genuinely caring to find out what Timothee had done before feeding from him, so not playing into Raphael's game where Raphael was trying to make him feel guilty or vengeful. And also in handing Timothee over to prove he didn't care about Raphael disposing of him with torture and that he wasn't going to kill a human even if that might threaten his future blood supply, or if it might provide a quicker, merciful death than what Raphael would.

These all sound awesome but I’m hugely interested in Gollum’s Song 👀
Ohh, this is one im actively working on. Bilbo is recovering at Beorn's the Grief of Thorin's death wegihing on him heavily. At the back of his mind is the thing, the creatur. The one he was going to ask Thorin to help him figure out, but now he supposed he would have to do it on his ow. His own side quest, and if it killed him, well at least his heart wuldnt break every time he woke alone. Snippet:
“Come now Master Bunny, it is cold out and you will get ill again.” Beorn said in his no nonsense way as Bilbo allowed himself to be ushered away back into the house.
Bilbo decided to move his bedroll to the same alcove he and Thorin had shared and curled up together in, sleep was a long time coming, this night and many more after. It was a long, dark winter, with more waking hours than sleeping ones that grated on Bilbo’s thoughts and feelings.
This meant that Bilbo had a long time to think about things, things he had put to the back of his mind, what with the Quest, things he hadn't had the time to worry over.
He decided he needed the rest of the winter to get strong again, to eat well and heal as well as he was able, he had a new Quest to go on when the land thawed. A Quest he felt close to his heart, one he did not want to fail. Not like he had the last one."

Bro absolutely COOKED with this.
EDIT: Y'all OOP is not whitewashing and brushing past the crimes of the fucking Taliban, they're simply pointing out that unlike the American elite- who have never suffered a day in their lives- terrorists like the Taliban usually go through some radicalizing event caused by poor life circumstances. That absolutely does not excuse or condone the horrible things they do, of course.
Also, Somali pirates and the Taliban were explicitly mentioned because this comment is in response to a couple of their former hostages saying said groups supplied them with soap and toothpaste, which the US government refuses to give to migrants. You can stop misinterpreting and derailing this post now, thanks.

a lot of media assumes robots would be immortal but i think its a lot more interesting to explore robots dealing with their parts wearing down and battery life shortening and all the horrible little failings that come with being a complicated machine. sure they can replace parts but you'd assume you cant completely ship of theseus them, or it'd have pretty big rammifications on their sense of identity. idk. give me robots with distinct, unique signs of aging. as a treat.
