Here's an interview with Toby Ascher where he talks about the production of the Knuckles series. Here are some highlights:
- From the beginning they made the decision to slowly roll out the game characters, so they could each be introduced in an organic way.
- One of their favorite things about the first movie was the "wild card/straight man" relationship between Sonic and Tom. With "Knuckles" the idea was to make a buddy comedy with two wild cards, where neither is necessarily the straight man.
- The series is inspired by 90's comedies like "Happy Gilmore" and "Kingpin". In the second episode Wade says "I'm Munsoned out here in the middle of nowhere" which is a reference to Woody Harrelson's character in "Kingpin", Roy Munson.
- They like showing how every entry in the franchise is affected by the events of the previous one. The destruction to San Francisco from the first movie led to GUN being created. And in the series we see how all the rings and quills that Sonic and Knuckles left around the world in the sequel are being collected and studied by GUN to make weapons.

Knuckles (prod. John Whittington).
Comedian Adam Pally and the voice of Idris Elba star in this amusing and entirely insubstantial Sonic the Hedgehog series spin-off of a road trip buddy comedy. Structured as basically a sidequest between supporting characters off on their own fun but unimportant mission, their wacky hijinx serves to mine deadpan humour between the mismatched pair, contrasting the ultra-serious alien echidna cartoon character with the dim-witted small-town deputy sheriff.

"The reality was they had to essentially animate three hours of story instead of two (like the films) in just a year" gives me the implication that each episode will be a half hour long, thus three hours from six episodes
Hello, my dear!❤️✨
All six episodes are roughly between 45 minutes to an hour (Entertainment Identifier Registry, 2024). We are definitely going to get some Knuckles content! Six hours worth is very, very generous.🤩

Chibi Sonic -- Hot Cocoa

Here we go with another chibi art! Just did Sonic, Tails and Knuckles with hot cocoa ❤️
They are movie versions, but it's complicated because of how my style is. I did the other one, but it didn't turn out to well, so I did chibis ^^
And also, I am going to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in the theater today :). I finished this this morning just before having breakfast and hopefully to get ready as soon as I get this displayed here before time runs out, maybe ^^
Knuckles looks so complicated how I drew him :p, and Tails is tiny, too lol. Welp, I hope the third movie is good ^^. Good way to start Christmas break!

Toby Ascher on more future Sonic spin-offs.
Also, Knuckles is the most watched TV show on Paramount Plus. It’s also look like the show will be available on Blu-Ray. It’s already available to pre-order it.

Also, I think Shadow might take Knuckles’ bike and turn it into the Dark Rider, since Wade and Knuckles ride the motorcycle to their home in the end of the show.

Knuckles live-action series premieres April 26, trailer
From Gematsu
The Knuckles live-action series will premiere on Paramount+ on April 26, Paramount Pictures announced. It will consist of six episodes all released simultaneously, and is set between the events of the movies Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Here is an overview of the series, via Paramount Pictures:
The new live-action series will follow Knuckles (Idris Elba) on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade (Adam Pally) as his protege and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior. The series takes place between the films Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3. In addition to Elba starring as the titular character, Adam Pally reprises his role from the film franchise as Wade Whipple. The ensemble cast includes guest stars Stockard Channing (The West Wing), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up), Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn), Rory McCann (Game of Thrones), Cary Elwes (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Paul Scheer (Black Monday), and Rob Huebel (Childrens Hospital). Special guest star Ben Schwartz will reprise his role as Sonic, as well as special guest star Tika Sumpter, reprising her role as Maddie. Colleen O’Shaughnessey will also return as a special guest star in her role as Tails. All of the key creative team from the previous films have returned for the series, including the films’ director/executive producer Jeff Fowler, who directed the pilot episode and helped transition the film’s signature cinematic animation style to television, as well as Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington and Toru Nakahara, who serve as executive producers along with Idris Elba. Additional directors for the series include Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone and Carol Banker. The series was created for television by John Whittington and Toby Ascher, who is showrunning during production. Whittington, who wrote Sonic the Hedgehog 2, serves as head writer and wrote the pilot for the series. Additional series writers include Brian Schacter and James Madejski.

This December, #SonicTheHedgehog 3 is set to introduce #ShadowTheHedgehog on the big screen.
If the movie performs well, #Paramount is considering a spin-off film for the character. Producer Toby Ascher hinted at ambitious plans for the future of the Sonic franchise. Sources like Daniel Richtman suggest that a Shadow movie may follow if #SonicMovie3 is successful.
With #KeanuReeves voicing Shadow, Paramount aims to leverage his star power alongside the Sonic franchise's strong track record, potentially overshadowing Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, which is releasing on the same day. While Disney's prequel/sequel may rely on nostalgia, Sonic 3 promises fresh storytelling and beloved characters, which could resonate more with audiences than yet another rehash of The Lion King.

MYSTERY BEN TALKS ABOUT SONIC 3

Oh, wow! Look at this! I’ll make a bullet point of the things that Ben talks about in terms of the film:
In terms of Sonic Cinematic Universe, Toby Ascher “has such a beautiful idea of what to do with this whole thing, so if you ever get little tidbits out of him you’re winning.”
Ben has played a handful of Sonic Adventure 2 levels in preparation of the film. He’s watched a play-through of SA2 (after getting stuck on Knuckles’ level on Switch) and was in awe of the story, even stating that he loved its cinematic feel.
Based on Ben’s gameplay and the play-through, he’s confident that the movie uses SA2 as the main inspiration. He also makes it a point in saying that other games are evident in the film as well.
Ben cannot talk about who voices Shadow, but guarantees that we’ll be very pleased.
Though he’s 100% with his scripted lines, he’s combing through footage to add some improved lines to select scenes.
Shadow’s intro—and character development—in the film continues to be Ben’s favorite. He finds it extraordinary and grew to love the character.
Ben’s very excited to bring more Sonic characters into the franchise. He loves to watch them grow up.
Ben is hopeful that the success of the third film will lead another film/spinoff. He also states that he will continue to voice “Sonic” for as long as the franchise is alive. He also shares his love for Colleen O'Shaughnessey as “Tails.”
Ben shares that the third film is enormous! He also states that he’s under a strict NDA (along with other members of the crew) and cannot talk about the film and upcoming SCU projects.
