DC Artists Tournament - Round 8
We're into the semi finals! Today I'm going to ask you to pick your favourite between 3, to set up our finals and start ranking the top 6 against each other.

Fan submitted propaganda below:
Bilquis Evely:
For Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and her Wonder Woman especially
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow should be all the evidence you need. The art has all the romanticism of a fairy tale and the painstaking details that make any science fiction work sing... it's so gorgeous and so so good
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Particularly issue #6 where every splash page and spread is a new banger. Lopes' colours make her work sing.
absolutely GORGEOUS intricate linework and the use of colour is so warm and interesting to look at
Evely just has a really nice and unique style overall, but I do want to make special mention of the stunning art she did in Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow paired with Matheus Lopes
Todd Nauck:
His art is good, it's not my favourite in terms of quality but I can always tell when it's him doing the art
Jamal Campbell:
far fucking sector
I will let the current Superman series speak for me on this
I really love how he draws Lois, but also every character of color ever

Resenha do filme Coringa (sem spoilers)
O momento chegou, DCnauta!

. Psychology Around the Net: October 19, 2019
This week’s Psychology Around the Net looks at advice on helping your child cope with scary movies, a new study that shows men still feel judged for discussing their feelings, the most powerful obstacle standing between you and your goals, and more.
Psychiatrist Explains What ‘Joker’ Gets Wrong About Mental Illness: Even if you haven’t seen it, you’re probably aware that Joker, the psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, has a lot of people talking about mental illness. Dr Ziv Cohen, a criminal psychiatrist and clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at Cornell University, specializes in violence, predatory behavior, psychopathy, and other toxic personality disorders has joined the conversation stating the movie strengthens the incorrect stereotype that there’s a link between mental illness and violence. Cohen also says this Joker is probably not diagnosable at all: “Some of the greatest crimes in human history were committed by persons with no mental illness or evidence of psychopathy in their daily lives. I think the Joker character forces us to grapple with this innate human capacity for evil, which is ultimately unexplainable, and which is fruitfully explored in works of art.”
The #1 Obstacle That Prevents Positive Change: You might have many obstacles standing between you and your goals. Maybe you live in an unhealthy environment, or have no support system. Maybe there’s no room in your bank account for pursuing a dream, or maybe you wouldn’t have the time even if you did have the money. All of these are legitimate obstacles (legitimate, but not unconquerable), but chances are there’s a much bigger, more powerful obstacle standing in your way.
Introducing PEOPLE’s New Mental Health Initiative: Let’s Talk About It: PEOPLE is launching a year-long campaign to encourage the magazine’s readers to have important conversations about mental health. The Let’s Talk About It initiative will feature stories from people who’ve dealt with mental illness — celebrities and ordinary folk alike — and offer resources for getting help and supporting others.
How to Help Kids Get Over a Scary Movie: Spooky Season is here and no matter how diligently you screen scary movies to make sure they’re appropriate for your child’s age, personality, and maturity level, your offspring might still get their peepers on something no where near being on your approved list. Or, they might even become scared of a movie you do approve. Either way, here’s some down-to-earth advice on how to help your child overcome that fear.
Study Shows Men Still Feel Judged When They Talk About Their Feelings: A newly released study commissioned by the men’s health charity Movember shows that many men feel like they can’t be open about their feelings without facing judgment. The study surveyed 4,000 men from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia on emotions and masculinity and found that even though most men stated they understood talking about their emotions was beneficial (76% said they know it’s good for their mental health and 77% said they view it as an effective way to deal with issues), many of them still have reservations (58% feel like everyone expects them to “show no weakness” and 38% admitted to avoiding talking about their feelings so they wouldn’t appear “unmanly”).
Narcissistic Abuse Recovery: Healing from the “Discard”: Being “discarded” by a partner leaves you feeling wounded, confused, and unwanted. After all, you loved this person. You were vulnerable with them, trusted them, gave them your heart. Fortunately, you can recover and go on to fall in love again.

TOP 5 the most famous comics.
1) Batman - The Dark Knight Returns (DC Comics)
Batman The Dark Knight Returns made almost every single "Best of" list I used. Consistently it was in the top five of every list out there and often at number one. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns was a 1986 four-issue miniseries by Frank Miller, illustrated also by Miller and Klaus Janson, and published by DC Comics.
2) The Sandman (DC Comics / Vertigo)
Dark fantasy, horror, surrealism- all these styles come together in the critically acclaimed The Sandman series from Vertigo Comics (a sub-imprint of DC Comics).  The Sandman was written by Neil Gaiman. Its artists included Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, Jill Thompson, Shawn McManus, Marc Hempel, and Michael Zulli, with lettering by Todd Klein and covers by Dave McKean.
3) Watchmen (DC Comics)
No surprise here.  Watchmen is either at or near the top of every single "Best of comics" list.  It is the best selling graphic novel in comic book history and spun off a major motion picture. Watchmen was a graphic novel published by DC Comics in 1986 and 1987.
4) Kingdom Come (DC Comics)
This was my personal pick for number one as I enjoyed DC Comic's Kingdom Come far more than Dark Knight Returns, The Sandman, or Watchmen.  Kingdom Come was a four-issue mini-series published in 1996 by DC Comics under their Elseworlds imprint. It was written by Mark Waid and Alex Ross and painted by Ross.
5) Fables (Vertigo)
Fables was a comic book series created by Bill Willingham and published by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. Willingham served as sole writer for its entirety, with Mark Buckingham penciling more than 110 issues. Fables was launched in July 2002, and concluded in July 2015.
TECHNOLOGY: Positive and Negatives things.
The simplest form of technology is the development and use of basic tools. The prehistoric discovery of how to control fire and the later Neolithic Revolution increased the available sources of food, and the invention of the wheel helped humans to travel in and control their environment. Developments in historic times, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale.
Technology has many effects. It has helped develop more advanced economies (including today's global economy) and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products known as pollutionand deplete natural resources to the detriment of Earth's environment. Innovations have always influenced the values of a society and raised new questions of the ethics of technology. Examples include the rise of the notion of efficiency in terms of human productivity, and the challenges of bioethics.
Philosophical debates have arisen over the use of technology, with disagreements over whether technology improves the human condition or worsens it. Neo-Luddism, anarcho-primitivism, and similar reactionary movements criticize the pervasiveness of technology, arguing that it harms the environment and alienates people; proponents of ideologies such as transhumanism and techno-progressivism view continued technological progress as beneficial to society and the human condition.
MUSICS: eletronics and coutry music.

TECHNOWORLD:
TOP 5 COMMOM COMPUTER PROBLEMS AND SOLUTION:
1. Computer speed and performance is diminished.
One of the things that computer owners usually notice this. There are several reasons why it happens to your computer. Lack of maintenance, fragmented data, corrupted registry, spyware and unnecessary burden on computer programs and services can certainly affect your computer speed and performance. Manage your programs and cleaning the registry can easily increase your computer's performance up to 30%.
2. Computer system freezes and blue screens of death.
You have to do some serious diagnostic procedures to effectively know the problem with your computer. Computer virus or spyware might be some reason why this happens on your computer. Update your anti-spyware immediately to avoid such problems and thoroughly scan your computer to see if it has any viruses or spywares. If you find that your computer is free of spyware, then update your hardware drive is the next step. Hardware-drive makes it easier for your computer to communicate with other hardware components. Without an updated driver CPU locks up and can cause problems when you use your computer. If it does not work try to increase your computer memory to avoid computer freezes. By increasing the RAM you get more use your computer's computing power.
3. Computer stops at reboot again and again.
This kind of problem is usually associated with hardware problem. Faulty power supply is usually the cause of this problem. Dirty or defective fan is another reason why your computer is rebooting spontaneously. When your computer tries to cool itself when the fan is faulty it automatically shuts off. Dust has accumulated in your computer that can capture the heat inside, making it warmer. What you need to do is clean the fan and make sure it runs properly. Do not forget to check your power supply.
4. Sounds and vibrations.
This one is almost certain that you have a hardware problem. High frequency noise can be caused by electronic components. Whatever the reason, you conduct a small study. Unplug your computer and remove the case and run the computer to discover the origin of noise. If a loose wire or bad fan is what makes the noise so it may be time to call a computer tech to help you with your problem.
5. Your browser start page has changed.
It is known as "high-jacking", which is also caused by a spyware is installed on your system. The spyware on your computer has installed a javascript in your web browser, which tells your browser to change settings, thus changing the default homepage in your browser. What you can do is to run an anti-virus or spyware program to remove spyware from your computer.
All the problems stated in this article can be avoided easily by simply maintain your computer. Do not panic when you encounter a computer problem with your PC, because the key to fixing that problem is to correct diagnosis to identify what is happening on your computer. Take a few minutes to run some diagnostic tests or seek help in computer forums, before you rush out to computer Technical Center.
 WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS DANCES.
Belly Dance: Dance uses trunk, hips and abdomen movements, also used elements such as swords, veils, daggers, jugs and bowls. It began very closely with the religion, being initially danced only in the temples by priestesses of Old Egypt.
Tango: Tango is a dance that has emerged in Argentina and is known for its tangosensuality. The most known steps of Tango are the "hook" and the "ocho", the hook is characterized by the raised of leg of the couple and they hook the legs. The eight is a step executed by the woman and she draws the number eight with her legs.
Bharatanatyam: this dance is traditional and one of the oldest Bharatanatyamda India, it is classic in style and contains many expressions of body and face. Dancers use soft movements and poses. The dance is accompanied by musical instruments such as the flute, the violin and tambura.

6. 'Café Terrace at Night' de Vincent Van Gogh.
4. 'Luncheon of the Boating Party' por Pierre Auguste Renoir.

At MBC Biolabs, an incubator for biotech startups in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood, a team of scientists and interns working for the small startup Prellis Biologics have just taken a big step on the path toward developing viable 3D-printed organs for humans.
The company, which was founded in 2016 by research scientists Melanie Matheu and Noelle Mullin, staked its future (and a small $3 million investment) on a new technology to manufacture capillaries, the one-cell-thick blood vessels that are the pathways which oxygen and nutrients move through to nourish tissues in the body.
Without functioning capillary structures, it is impossible to make organs, according to Matheu. They’re the most vital piece of the puzzle in the quest to print viable hearts, livers, kidneys and lungs, she said.
“Microvasculature is the fundamental architectural unit that supports advanced multicellular life and it therefore represents a crucial target for bottom-up human tissue engineering and regenerative medicine,” said Jordan Miller, an assistant professor of bioengineering at Rice University and an expert in 3D-printed implantable biomaterial structures, in a statement.
This real-time video shows tiny fluorescent particles – 5 microns in diameter (the same size as a red blood cell) – moving through an array of 105 capillaries printed in parallel, inside a 700 micron diameter tube. Each capillary is 250 microns long.
Now, Prellis has published findings indicating that it can manufacture those capillaries at a size and speed that would deliver 3D-printed organs to the market within the next five years.
Prellis uses holographic printing technology that creates three-dimensional layers deposited by a light-induced chemical reaction that happens in five milliseconds.
This feature, according to the company, is critical for building tissues like kidneys or lungs. Prellis achieves this by combining a light-sensitive photo-initiator with traditional bioinks that allows the cellular material to undergo a reaction when blasted with infrared light, which catalyzes the polymerization of the bioink.
Prellis didn’t invent holographic printing technology. Several researchers are looking to apply this new approach to 3D printing across a number of industries, but the company is applying the technology to biofabrication in a way that seems promising.
Holography-based 3D printing produces objects in seconds instead of hours
The speed is important because it means that cell death doesn’t occur and the tissue being printed remains viable, while the ability to print within structures means that Prellis’ technology can generate the internal scaffolding to support and sustain the organic material that surrounds it, according to the company.
The video above, courtesy of Prellis Biologics, shows real-time printing of a cell encapsulation device that is useful for producing small human cells containing organoids. The structure is designed to be permeable and the size is 200 microns in diameter and can contain up to 2000 cells.
Prellis isn’t the first company to develop three-dimensional organ printing. There have been decades of research into the technology, and companies like BioBots (which made its debut on the TechCrunch stage) are already driving down the cost of printing living tissue.
Now called Allevi, the company formerly known as BioBots has seen its founders part ways and its business  strategy shift (it’s now focusing on developing software to make its bioprinters easier to use), according to a report in Inc. Allevi has slashed the cost of bioprinting with devices that sell for less than $10,000, but Prellis contends that the limitations of extrusion printing mean that technology is too low resolution and too slow to create capillaries and keep cells alive.
Prellis’ organs will also need to be placed in a bioreactor to sustain them before they’re transplanted into an animal, but the difference is that the company aims to produce complete organs rather than sample tissue or a small cell sample, according to a statement. The bioreactors can simulate the biomechanical pressures that ensure an organ functions properly, Matheu said.
“Vasculature is a key feature of complex tissues and is essential for engineering tissue with therapeutic value,” said Todd Huffman, the chief executive officer of 3Scan, an advanced digital tissue imaging and data analysis company (and a Prellis advisor). “Prellis’ advancement represents a key milestone in the quest to engineer organs.”
Matheu estimates that it will take two-and-a-half years and $15 million to bring implantable organs through their first animal trials. “That will get a test kidney into an animal,” she said.
The goal is to print a quarter-sized kidney that could be transplanted into rats. “We want something that would be able to handle a kidney that we would transplant into a human,” Matheu said.
One frame of a 3D map of animal tissue from 3Scan .
Earlier this year, researchers at the University of Manchester href="https://newatlas.com/working-kidney-cells-grown-mice/53354/"> grew functional human kidney tissue from stem cells for the first time. The scientists implanted small clusters of capillaries that filter waste products from the blood that had been grown in a Petri dish into genetically engineered mice. After 12 weeks, the capillaries had grown nephrons — the elements that make up a functional human kidney.
Ultimately, the vision is to export cells from patients by taking a skin graft or blood, stem cell or bone marrow harvest — and then use those samples to create the cellular material that will grow organs. “Tissue rejection was the first thing I was thinking about in how I was designing the process and how we could do it,” says Matheu.
While Prellis is spending its time working to perfect a technique for printing kidneys, the company is looking for partners to take its manufacturing technology and work on processes to develop other organs.
“We’ll be doing collaborative work with other groups,” Matheu said. “Our technology will come to market in many other ways prior to the full kidney.”
Last year, the company outlined a go-to-market strategy that included developing lab-grown tissues to produce antibodies for therapeutics and drug development. The company’s first targeted human tissue printed for clinical development were cells called “islets of Langerhans,” which are the units within a pancreas that produce insulin.
“Type 1 diabetics lose insulin-producing islets of Langerhans at a young age. If we can replace these, we can offer diabetes patients a life free of daily insulin shots and glucose monitoring,” said Matheu in a statement at the time.
Matheu sees the technology she and her co-founder developed as much about a fundamental shift in manufacturing biomaterials as a novel process to print kidneys, specifically.
“Imagine if you want to build a tumor for testing… In the lab it would take you five hours to print one… With our system it would take you three and a half seconds,” said Matheu. “That is our baseline optical system… The speed is such a shift in how you can build cells and fundamental structures we are going to be working to license this out.”
Meanwhile, the need for some solution to the shortage in organ donations keeps growing. Matheu said that one in seven adults in the U.S. have some sort of kidney ailment, and she estimates that 90 million people will need a kidney at some point in their lives.
Roughly 330 people die every day from organ failure, and if there were a fast way to manufacture those organs, there’s no reason for those fatalities, says Matheu. Prellis estimates that because of the need for human tissue and organ replacement alternatives, as well as human tissue for drug discovery and toxicology testing, the global tissue engineering market will reach $94 billion by 2024, up from $23 billion in 2015.
“We need to help people faster,” says Matheu.
