New Moon Totem Animals
Tumblr media
Photo of the owl by Agto Nugroho on Unsplash
Roughly all nocturnal and watery creatures can be symbolically linked to the Moon in one way or another. But some totem animals reach their highest power precisely during the New Moon.
If your animal is one of those, New Moon may be the most resourceful time for you too, no matter how exactly you prefer to work with animal symbolism and spirits.
Here’s the list of "typical" New Moon Totem Animals.
FLICKER
Tumblr media
Flickers are known for their drilling behavior. They make holes in trees to extract food. During the New Moon phase, flicker’s energy can encourage us to persevere in our endeavors and to remain focused on our objectives.
In search of food, these birds also tap and drum. It connects them to new rhythms coming into our life with a new moon cycle. Flickers even have a black crescent pattern over their breast area. The black color of the moon reflects the New Moon phase and ability to experience emotions more intensely.
Keywords: initiation, renewal, persistence, new rhythms.
HAWK
Tumblr media

To the Ojibwa, the red-tailed hawk represented leadership, deliberation, and foresight. Just as hawks soar high above the earth, gaining a broader perspective on their surroundings, they inspire us to rise above our own limitations and see the bigger picture of our lives and goals. They remind us to trust our instincts and intuition as we set new intentions during the New Moon phase.
Keywords: intuition, insight, vision.
OWL
Tumblr media
Photo by Erik Karits on Unsplash
Owl is the bird of magic, darkness, prophecy, and wisdom. It is associated with «dark» feminine energies, Lilith, the first wife of Adam who refused to submit to him, and goddess Athena. In some belief systems, owls are seen not as evil incarnates, but as wise and knowledgeable beings. Much like the symbolism of the New Moon, which is a time for introspection, reflection, restrategizing and accessing inner wisdom.
Keywords: mystery, omens, wisdom, intuition, transition, renewal.
PANTHER
Tumblr media
According to Amazon legends, the roar of the jaguar is the roar of thunder, and the black panther is the god of darkness who can cause eclipses by swallowing the sun. Panthers are associated with the New Moon phase due to their nocturnal nature and their ability to move through the darkness with grace and precision. They are often seen as mysterious and elusive creatures, much like subconscious mind. Panthers symbolize the ability to dive into the depths of the psyche and uncover hidden truths.
Keywords: renewal, intuition, transformation, the mysteries of the unseen world.
TIGER
Tumblr media
Photo by Donnie Ray Crisp on Unsplash
In the Hindu tradition, the tiger was sacred to the goddess Kali, which is also connected to the New Moon. Mighty and resilient, tigers symbolize inner power and the ability to overcome challenges. New Moon is a time for turning inward, tapping into inner resources, and renewing one’s strength. Tigers are excellent swimmers, unlike other large cats, which connects them to water and moon even more. In China, the tiger is both a symbol of darkness and the new moon, as well as brightness and the full moon.
Keywords: inner strength, passion, power, devotion, sensuality.
SPIDER
Tumblr media
Photo by Dirk Ribbler on Unsplash
Spiders are associated with the cycle of creation, destruction, and rebirth. They are constantly building and weaving new webs, which is also a lunar cycle symbol. The act of weaving also symbolizes creation and manifestation of dreams and desires. Spiders are patient and persistent in building their webs. They encourage us to be patient as we plant the seeds of our intentions and persist in our efforts towards our goals, even when progress may seem slow or uncertain.
Keywords: creation, transformation, patience, intuition.
OYSTER
Tumblr media
Photo by Marcus Lange on Unsplash
Oysters reside in the ocean, which has a deep archetypal connection to intuition and the subconscious mind. These molluscs hold the potential to create a pearl. New Moon phase as well symbolises hidden potential and possibilities waiting to be discovered. Oysters are also constantly filtering water, which brings up the idea of New Moon cleansing rituals and «letting go» practices.
Keywords: hidden potential, the cyclical nature of life, renewal.

My interest in gollums started with reading the Jewish mythos of the creation of the gollum. This was near the beginning of my spiritual awakening and I had some success with creating effective gollums.
I recently started practicing gollum Magick again and was told by a peer, a totem magic master, that she could see and feel the energy in him (pictured above)
So what is gollum magick anyways? You can find gollums made of a slew of varying media, such as clay, glass, metal, wood, etc.
What do they do? It depends on the intent of the creator. I have made gollums for a variety of purposes. One thing a gollum can do is be a vessel for a spirit, wight, deity, etc. They can come and go from it as they please. I use this variety for communing with different spirits. Then there is protection gollums. These ones are filled up with my own energy under the intent of protection. I typically place these in a line protecting my space. Even though they are my own spirit they still have some autonomy though much more limited then the vessel variety of gollum. This is not a comprehensive list, and you can make a gollum with any intent you would like.
What are the dangers? If you don't know where your energy starts and end you run risk of becoming the vessel yourself, losing your sense of self, and potentially leading into true insanity.
Who can make gollums? Anyone can! Some people may have a natural talent for it but it can be a learned skill. Like any other learned skill you have to practice to develop it
Let me know if there are any other questions!

The Opossum's Place in Witchcraft
Tumblr media
Opossums are often overlooked in spiritual and magickal traditions, but they possess unique symbolism and energy that can be harnessed in various ways. Their adaptability, nocturnal nature, and ability to "play dead" carry profound lessons in transformation, deception, and resilience.
Spiritual Meaning of Opossums
Survival and Adaptability – Opossums are highly adaptable creatures that thrive in diverse environments. Spiritually, they represent the ability to navigate challenges and make the best of any situation.
Strategic Thinking and Illusion – Their famous ability to "play dead" teaches the wisdom of knowing when to engage and when to retreat. This can be a sign to use strategy rather than direct confrontation in spiritual and personal matters.
Shadow Work and Hidden Truths – As nocturnal creatures, opossums symbolize a connection to the shadow self, secrets, and the unseen. They remind us to explore hidden aspects of our psyche and uncover deeper truths.
Protection and Warding Off Negativity – Opossums use their defense mechanisms to deter predators without direct conflict. They symbolize non-aggressive protection and the ability to repel negativity.
Resourcefulness and Cleverness – Known for scavenging and making use of whatever is available, opossums encourage creativity and making do with what we have.
Magickal Abilities of Opossums
Defensive Magick – Opossum energy can be invoked for protection spells, especially those involving avoidance, invisibility, or confusion spells to divert negative forces.
Shape-Shifting and Illusion Work – Their ability to deceive predators makes them powerful allies in glamour magick, invisibility work, or any spell requiring the manipulation of perception.
Shadow Work and Divination – Since they thrive in darkness, opossums can be spirit guides for those working with shadow magick, dream interpretation, or deep introspection.
Cunning/Trickster Energy – Opossums carry a trickster essence, helping with spells related to outsmarting opponents, negotiations, or getting out of difficult situations.
Rebirth and Transformation – "Playing dead" symbolizes symbolic death and resurrection, making opossums a fitting totem for transformation rituals and new beginnings.
Working with Opossum Energy
• Meditate on the opossum to understand when to stand your ground and when to retreat.
• Carry opossum imagery or bones (ethically sourced) for protection and strategic wisdom.
• Invoke opossum energy in spells where you need to remain unseen, trick adversaries, or adapt to changing situations.
• Use opossum symbolism in shadow work to uncover hidden aspects of yourself.

𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Wolf
Tumblr media
🎨Artist: Digital Darlings 🔥🖌️
Today is a day which focuses around those who are loyal to us, or not. Wolves are incredibly respectful of boundaries. One wolf pack will not cross over and invade the borderlands of another wolf pack, they keep to their own territories. We are being asked to evaluate who we wish to be around us and who we do not, who deserves our protection and who needs to be left behind.

So, I have reached the final episode of season 6 of my Supergirl rewatch and I just have to reiterate: they did Nyxly so dirty.
I still don't understand what they were thinking. Nyxly is the first person to pass the Courage Totem's test, she's inundated with empathy from the Humanity Totem, she's completely open with the Truth Totem and is granted access to the Love Totem by choosing the life of a child over her own quest for power.
So, why did they just bung her back in the Phantom Zone!?
It wasn't a satisfying ending, it wasn't even a character arc - it was a circle! She ended up exactly where she started. Sure, Lex's hubris being his own downfall made sense for him, but him being in the second leg of season 6 at all felt so unnecessary that that wasn't satisfying, either.
Here's how I like to imagine this story arc going, because I'm never going to have the time or energy to do anything with this idea besides writing it down like this:
So, we've got Humanity, Hope, Courage, Dreams, Love, Truth and Destiny. 7 Totems. 7 Super Friends. Say, each Totem was tied specifically to a member of the Super Friends and so we're given an episode per Totem exploring a member of the team and their unique relationship to what that core element represented for them. (They sort of did this in the show but only for a couple of the Totems and they never really committed to it as a theme).
Narratively speaking, the Super Friends are working together to beat the trials, which is exactly what a superhero team should be all about. Together, they represent the best the planet has to offer.
Except, that's not the point of the trials. To gather the AllStone, you have to do it alone. And who's doing it alone? Nyxly. Nyxly bares her soul to these Totems, she gains most of them independently without cheating and the further along she gets into the trials, the more she's able to overcome the very reason for her pain and anger that led her down this path to begin with.
The Super Friends aren't looking for power, that was never their goal, and so of course they aren't playing by the rules to gain it, they're doing it in a way that everyone equally shares a part of the burden and so the effect isn't as intense. For Nyxly, though, by gaining all 7 Totems and going through those associated trials, I like to think that by the end of her arc, she willingly gives up that power.
And maybe that's the whole point of the AllStone. Only someone worthy of power should gain it, and the only people worthy of power are the ones that don't want it. The AllStone isn't meant to be a weapon or even a tool used by an individual, it's supposed to be for the whole world to share. And so the very mechanics of the trial will either fail those corrupted by their thirst for power long before they get a taste, or teach someone the true values of their own humanity by fairly passing every test.
I know the show wanted to go out with a bang and a big-stakes CGI battle with all the trimmings, but Nyxly was never designed as a villain. She was hurt and angry, but that never made her evil. She was a fifth dimensional imp, all she ever did was cause mischief, and so having her face her own reality through the trials would have been a major grounding factor for her.
To have the final villain of the show willingly give up their power not because it was beaten out of them, but simply because they decided to feels right to me. They built up the stakes so high in this season to make Nyxly out as the most powerful villain they'd ever faced -- and so maybe the only way to beat her was for her to decide that the fight was no longer worth fighting.
I dunno, it just would've been nice if the AllStone had actually meant something at the heart of it, and that Nyxly actually had a satisfying end to her story that made sense for her character.
Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A piece for a collaborative exhibition in Łódź
𖠦 My lifelong fascination with the psychological foundations of various belief systems naturally led me to create totemic works that emerged from my unconscious through the years. Many of them took shape as sketches on an iPad or small notepads—scribbled during long train rides, relaxed moments in cafés, while waiting at the dentist etc. Until now, I had never shared them and considered them more personal works or simply spontaneous expressions of free creation, without a specific verbal purpose.

A magic item for use in Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition tabletop role-playing game. This is a homebrew magic item created by Cloaks and Capes.
Monstrous Totem
Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement by a Druid)
“A wooden, carved figurine of some monstrous being. Even though the monster this totem is based on is dangerous and terrifying, the carving and depiction of it is oddly comforting.”
This magic item can be used as a spellcasting focus, and you gain a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls and to the saving throw DCs of your spells.
Monstrous Shape. Something about your Wild Shape turns monstrous giving you Advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks when you are in your Beast form. Additionally, creatures who have the Frightened condition from you, have Disadvantage on saving throws to overcome their fear. While in Beast form, your creature type counts as both Beast and Monstrosity.
Monstrosity Spirit (Circle of Shepherd). When you use your Spirit Totem Feature you can choose to invoke the spirits of monsters who have lived and died in the lands around you. These spirits grant you and your allies their terrifying presence. Each creature of your choice in the aura can use their Reaction after making an attack roll to force a creature to make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or have the Frightened condition until the end of their next turn.

Reference art of my sona, Niko Spirata + one of many monster forms (Spirit Elemental/Cat monster). As I am genderfluid, they have three references to reflect it (Feminine, Nonbinary/Both?, Masculine)!
The monster form is Undertale AU-related more than anything else (In the context of multiverse crossover happenings, however, this is something that becomes a permanence with Niko later in the timeline).
Regardless of form, they've got spirit-related abilities (hence the form in the second piece), which means they can see things unseen to the naked eye (with their third eye), call upon totems/spirit animals for support in various situations and look to various deities when meditating (for advice more than anything - it's comparable to a DnD session when a character calls upon their deity of choice). It's a more exaggerated, "magical" version of what some people can do with spiritual practices (combined with the more modern interpretation of a... witch, maybe?).
Quick edit: Reblog if you like my stuff! Please!!! (No seriously, it helps artists a lot and it gets their stuff out there to reblog)
