just read your post about Dumbledore where you mentioned him not knowing about the potters' actual secret keeper. I do suspect, based on nothing, he did know or found out and then let an innocent man go to Azkaban so Harry will stay with the Dursleys because obviously Sirius wouldn't approve of their treatment of him and Harry wouldn't stay with them if he thought he could go live with his cool uncle. How probable do you think it is?
Doylist answer: nah, that isn't the read intended by the books.
Watsonian answer: you could write a 100% canon compliant fic where that was the case, and I would read it. I think there's a case to be made that Dumbledore just doesn't trust Sirius because Sirius (beautiful, brilliant, dark magic background) reminds him of Grindelwald. I think you can say the same thing about why he has such a knee-jerk aversion to Tom Riddle
Personally, I love making Dumbledore smart but shady in fics. I spitballed out Dumbledore's very lax protections of werewolf!Remus while he was at school into something he did on purpose, and had a ton of fun folding that characterization into Prison of the Phoenix.

What’s your favorite part of writing The Prison of the Phoenix so far? Any particular quote or phrase? A scene? Some dialogue? Maybe a small minute detail that you liked? Details encouraged 👀✨
Ooh yay! I love that I'm getting an ask about The Prison of the Phoenix. The easy answer to this was always going to be that my favorite part is getting the chance to write with @wisteria-lodge. But that’s hardly unique to this fic and doesn’t feel like it’s really in keeping with the spirit of the question. But I wanted to say it anyway.
My real answer is that there have been a few favorite parts about it.
In a lot of ways, this fic has been a long term dream of mine. I remember reading long Snape POV fics when I was younger and wanting to write something like that someday. At the time, I didn’t have the skills and it seemed like such a far away impossible goal. But now I’m at a point where I can write the kinds of stories I dreamed of.
I really love the way Severus POV lets you talk in narration. It let you phrase things in certain ways that other characters we've written don't. Like calling academic articles he disagrees with “rank absurdities,” or letting me casually drop in words like “hematemesis”.
I also really enjoy every time this man is wrong about something. It’s often a reasonable conclusion or prediction based on what he knows at the time, but we know more about the situation than he does. He’s a very fun man to put into situations.
One fun detail we included was the way that one of the first things Dumbledore does in our fic is call Severus “dear boy”. The same as he calls Harry. We wanted to subtly connect the degree of control he has over the two of them, and their lives. They’re two of the people he has in his collection.
#the prison of the phoenix#prison of the phoenix#Harry Potter#tpotp#hp#hp fanfic#severus snape#nichewrites#nichepastiche#I’ve also enjoyed the chance to give Severus an entirely one sided academic beef with Damocles Belby#Then there’s the always delightful former fuckboy turned wife guy Lucius Malfoy#There's honestly so much about this fic I'm happy about

my unhinged commentary here
Spirk shippers ahoy!
You're probably already aware of this book, but HOLY SHIT, have you actually read 'The Price of the Phoenix' by Sondra Marshak and Myrna Culbreath???

Rambling review with passages included below (mild spoilers)
I heard this was gay but I really had no idea. This is GAAAAYYYY. A big Strong man has kidnapped and cloned Kirk to use/sell as a punching bag/sex slave and Spock must rescue him with the help of the Romulan Commander from 3x02.
I really love the way the Romulan Commander was portrayed, let me say. She deserved to get to kick some ass after being screwed over in The Enterprise Incident. She gave Kirk and Spock so much grace in this book while maintaining her authority and I loved it!
Now, on to the good stuff:
If you like erotic mind melds, whump, hurt/comfort, and Kirk in skimpy outfits, this book is for you. It's very romantic and almost overtly sexual.
It was suspenseful and enthralling.
At times the writing style could leave something to be desired, but mostly in differentiating between the POV of original Kirk and clone Kirk in one particular fight scene. It gets easier when clone Kirk starts being referred to as James.
Here are some of my favorite passages:
Here, Jim Kirk's body has just been recovered (seemingly)

Oh god my heart

Yes. Kiss him awake, Spock

Spock is Heaven to Jim. Canon.

THIS WHOLE SEXY ASS MIND MELD (during which, Jim is completely naked btw)

Spock is the best man in the Galaxy to Jim

Kirk on his knees for Spock

Jim flirting with Spock psychically and picturing him in a sexy outfit (also calling him his Vulcan)

Eyes only for each other

In conclusion: Get thee to a used bookstore and find a copy.
You can find most Star Trek books on thriftbooks.com

Hey guys. Winslow/The Phantom from Phantom Of The Paradise is, in fact, a digimon, and needs to be put back in the digital world where he belongs.

It's going to be so fun because your feelings about him pretty strongly mirror my own when we wrote that chapter.
I'm working on a drarry fic right now so I haven't had time to reply to your wonderful comments yet but I am loving them and rolling around in them. I especially love how mad you got at Sirius since I know he's one of your little guys.
This made me super happy to read. 💝 So glad my wailing and rambling is giving you joy.
Sirius is my little guy but I'm not fond of his fuckboy version at all. Not only because I like to imagine him as pretty inexperienced (because he was too focused on James) but also because he has the potential to be SO HORRIBLY TOXIC and my whole body wants to puke and grow spikes and run away. Like he reminds me so much of so many guys I've met and who just destroyed my friends'lives.
I was so excited to see him in your fic and when he came I was like 'NOPE NOPE NOPE I've changed my mind PLEASE GO AWAY and go back to the den you crawled out of thank you no thank you ew ew ew you're everything I hate about you BYE.' It was very visceral. And the way he wasn't listening to Remus was so ICKY EW. Ew ew ew.
Curious to know how this is going to evolve.

hi! I've been reading your fic (it's really good btw) and I'm curious, how would you sort Remus Lupin?
I write him as a Lion Badger, with a pretty banged-up primary.
I think his Badger secondary comes through loud and clear. Remus caretakes, he's a good teacher because he's aware of what each individual student needs (Neville to feel competent, Harry to feel protected.) He knows his stuff in a mild-mannered, dependable sort of way, and has a very Badger-flavored weaponized kindness that he wears as a defense. He is also easily at his best and most effective when he's part of a group. Being a werewolf, then... is tough, because it forces him into this permanent position of outsider.
Remus associates his Badger secondary with his humanity, and there's a part of him which would *just* like to live out his days in that Badger secondary and be done with it. Because the Lion primary is the Wolf. The wolf wants things, it makes snap judgements based on vibes, it feels very, very strongly and carries a lot of anger. Remus knows that the Wolf protects him and has kept him alive... but he's also spent most of his life deeply distrusting and hating those instincts.
Sirius' arrest hit him incredibly hard, because if Sirius betrayed James and killed a street full of people, and Remus didn't see that coming... that's enough to Burn his Lion primary to the ground, because that means he was wrong about literally everything. He spent a long time in pure survival mode, and is only coming out of it because he's learned that actually his initial instincts were right. He's learning to get much more comfortable trusting his Wolf.

😊 I was really inspired by John Austen, Aubrey Beardsley, E. Mars - all those fairytale illustration black-and-white composition guys. Their stuff is designed to look really good in a printed book... so I guess I have them to thank.

Why is this so pretty? How dare you be this good @wisteria-lodge xD
