Q&A with the Creators of @TrendyProblems
Tumblr media
A trendy problem is better than a regular problem, right? According to some trendy twins, that's how it is. The Twitter account, @TrendyProblems, has garnered more than 40,000 followers and has none other the iconic trendsetter of the 90s, Cher Horowitz (photo above) as its profile picture. Cher is known to all 90s kids as the blonde, Beverly Hills socialite with the most fashionable wardrobe as made famous by Alicia Silverstone in the 1995 movie "Clueless." Every trendy problem that you can have is tweeted, from pledging allegiance to Ryan Gosling (that's definitely not a problem at all!) to thinking that Pinkberry is one of New York City's five boroughs (as Cher would say, "As if!") to wanting to build a treehouse inside Bloomingdales. Meet the creators of @TrendyProblems: Q: Who are the people behind @TrendyProblems? A: We're twin sisters who recently graduated from college and now work in media. We currently live in Manhattan but we grew up in the suburbs of DC. Q: Who started it and what was the inspiration behind it? A: We started our account together during our senior year of college. It was a spin-off of White Girl Problems and the other problems accounts on Twitter. Q: Your tweets are always so true and are always so hilarious! How is it you always tweet what many girls are thinking and feeling? A: When we're writing our tweets we try to channel characters like Kelly Kapoor and Cher Horowitz. Our account is more of a parody than a true depiction of our personalities, but that's what makes it so fun. Q: Assuming you don't get paid to do this, why put so much effort into it? How long do you spend managing @TrendyProblems everyday? A: It's just a fun and casual way to channel our creativity and engage with the digital space. Q: When did you realize that @TrendyProblems was becoming popular? Was fame the goal? A: We've never really looked at ourselves as a super popular account, as we religiously follow other parody accounts who have way more followers than we do. That's the great thing about Twitter though - anyone really has the opportunity to put their ideas out there and go viral. Q: What makes @TrendyProblems so appealing to your many followers? Do you feel that a lot of girls can relate to your Twitter in one way or another? A: We try to maintain a sense of humor in everything we tweet. Most people can probably relate to our humor even if they can't relate to our content. Q: How long do you plan on doing @TrendyProblems or have it exist for? A: Trendy Problems adds another dimension to our lives and it's something that we really enjoy, so as long as that continues we will definitely keep maintaining it. Q: What's next for @TrendyProblems? Perhaps a book (like "White Girl Problems"), a website or blog, or another Twitter? A: We have a couple of exciting projects in the works!
