(already..)  On a day when I often feel insignificant,  I'm so grateful to you  for sending me your wishes, so full of sincerity.  I'm able to endure thanks to you.  You know that, right?  There is a saying in Buddhism.  'Be a lamp unto yourself, be a refuge to yourself.' Here, far away in Hwacheon, when my heart feels unstable,  or fills up with rage for no reason, I think of these words.  In this moment, there are a lot of things I want to just let out and say. But for today, I think I'll post a few pictures to Instagram instead.  Just like RPWP (or its documentary),  there will no doubt be a time and place for me to speak my mind in nicer, more beautiful ways.  A place that's not here or now.  I have now reached the halfway point of my military service.  It's just like the halfway point of the 3km run we do at the Nonsan training camp -the point where I'm gasping for air. “Is he hooked?”

Steve asked, as Darcy’s fingers flew as she texted with Tony.

“Yep,” she answered with a grin. “This is gonna be fun.”

Darcy and Steve were currently holed up in a cozy cabin, safely away from prying eyes while they started their unusual marriage. Thanks to Darcy’s careful planning and a little help from Pepper, the media was oblivious to Steve’s release and the circumstances under which it happened.

“What’s gonna happen when he guesses right?” Steve asked, as he sketched the deer head over the fireplace.

“Depends on how he reacts,” Darcy admitted, because honestly, she wasn’t sure at this point. “Either way, he’s not allowed to come without Pepper. She’ll keep him in line.”

“She will indeed,” Steve agreed. He was already looking better after just three days of freedom and it was quite encouraging to Darcy. He didn’t talk a whole lot, but that was fairly normal for Steve and the silences between them didn’t feel awkward.

“I don’t trust easily anymore,” he’d told her yesterday. “But I just knew right away when I met you, you were someone I could trustp.”

“I’m glad I made you feel that way, Steve,” she’d told him, feeling sad for him. “I’m a total Hufflepuff.”

“I understood that reference!” He exclaimed rather proudly and they’d ended up talking Harry Potter for hours. It Turned out, Steve had a lot of interesting insights on the series which fascinated Darcy and made her wonder just how many surprising things she’d learn about her husband.

Closing her computer, Darcy rubbed her forehead and sighed.

“Are you okay?” Steve asked, looking at her with concern.

“Time for a break,” she announced. “My brain’s about fried with science. How about a hike, hubby?”

Steve’s blue eyes lit up with that puppy-like eagerness she’d seen years ago and still thought was completely cute.

“I would absolutely love that, Darcy. I’ve been dreaming of the great outdoors for a long time.”

“I bet you have,” she said sympathetically. “There’s a great trail in the woods I love to walk when I stay here. It’s great for clearing the head.”

“Just what we need,” Steve agreed, setting down his pad and pencil and getting to his feet much quicker than any man his size should be able to.

“You’re ridiculously agile,” She said enviously.

“Only in certain situations,” he replied, causing Darcy’s brain to start imagining said agility in other, very different situations.

Now is NOT the time, Darcy! The voice in her head scolded.

It’s always the time! What’s the point in having a hot husband if you can’t thirst after him? Another voice said.

Steve was looking at her expectantly, so she forced her feet to move her to the bedroom to change into proper hiking clothes.

“So tell me, Steve,” she ventured, when they had started out on their walk, Steve looking blissfully happy in a way she’d never seen before. “What are these situations where you are not agile?”

“Ice skating for one,” Steve told her. “Bucky banned me from the rink before I broke a bone. Also, I’m afraid I can’t dance.”

He looked apologetic at the second admission.

“Can’t or haven’t tried?” Darcy questioned. She found it hard to believe he couldn’t master a waltz with how fluidly he moved.

“Haven’t tried,” he sighed. “I was going to go with Peggy, but….. you know what happened. I haven’t really had the heart to try again.”

Darcy nodded understandingly. Peggy had passed away at the beginning of the Accords mess and she knew Steve had taken it very hard. She was his first love and if life was fair they should have had a long life together.

“I never got to tell you how sorry I was about that,” she told him. “She was a Queen.”

“Yes, she was,” Steve said with a sad smile. “She would have really liked you.”

“I’ll take that as high praise,” Darcy said, giving a little smirk.

“You should,” Steve told her, smiling in a way that made her stomach flutter. She’d forgotten how endearing he could be with his simple, but sincere compliments.

They stopped at a well known look out spot, gazing out over the breathtaking view.

“Amazing,” Steve murmured. “Thanks for bringing me here.”

He gazed thoughtfully off into the distance.

“You know, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to never take any of this for granted: life, freedom, people,” Steve mused. “I hope I never cause you to regret this, Darcy.”

“I don’t think that’s possible,” Darcy whispered as she pulled him into a tight hug, having a hard time expressing all the emotions she was feeling for him. One thing she was sure of: Steve Rogers was a treasure and she would protect him at all costs.
