Everything around him were just dark shapes that were almost unrecognisable. ‘There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so…’ He read aloud, tapping his pencil to his head. His hands tightened around the pencil, trying to replace the sounds of his nightmare with the distraction of Hamlet. ‘To be, or not to be: that is the question…’ Jamie, how could you have done this? I’ll never talk to you again. He bit his lip. ‘To die, to sleep - To sleep, perchance to dream - for in this sleep of death what dreams may come…’ Jamie, help me, please help me! Jamie frowned deeply, ashamed at the feeling of tears and fear swelling in his throat. ‘Um… uh- though this be madness, yet-‘ ‘Yet there is method in it.’ The pencil snapped in two.

Jamie whipped around, ready for combat with whoever had just spoken. There was no one to be seen. The ominous shapes of the room started to look like people. His eyes focused on one object after the other: Raphael? No, bookshelf. Saskia? No, stack of chairs. Lottie? No, plant. He froze. Directly opposite him was a shape he recognised too well. But surely it wasn’t? Surely it couldn’t be him? He had seen him for years. ‘Kermit?’ Confirming his worst nightmare, the object twitched, and a laugh broke the stillness of the dorm. ‘Together again, oh, it’s good to be together again!’ Kermits sickly sweet voice sang as he slowly sauntered towards the light.

Jamie’s face was unreadable. He was still poised for battle, assuming Kermit came to fight. ‘What are you doing here, Kermit? I thought you were in prison.’ Kermit learn casually against a bookshelf. ‘I’m out on bail.’ He said. Jamie shivered against his will. Kermit didn’t look any different to the last time they met. He was still as green as a fresh lime, his eyes were still dark and inviting, his hands were still soft, he still walked with a bounce and talked with an accent no one could place. Despite the history and the arguments, Jamie found himself lowering his guard. He sighed and stepped back towards the desk, packing up his things. ‘You need to leave. This isn’t a place for you.’ Kermit chuckled again. ‘I believe we have some unfinished business, Jamie.’ ‘I’m not going to fight you.’ ‘That’s not what I meant and you know it.’ Jamie turned to face him with a look of outrage. They stared at each other, electricity in the air.

‘Not. That.’ Jamie said with gritted teeth. Kermit nodded, placing his hands behind his back. Jamie couldn’t contain his rage. He turned and kicked the wall, leaning his head against it and trying to breathe deeply. ‘I told you I’d never do that again. I told you I would only use my partizan training to protect my princess. Then you- you- I don’t know what you did but next thing I know, you were in prison,’ Jamie turned to face him, about to continue his rage, but Kermits expression caught him off guard. His lips were curled in a frown that was unlike him. He was twiddling his thumbs and not keeping eye contact. Jamie sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, wondering if he wanted to ask h. ‘What did you do to end up in prison?’ Kermit shifted anxiously. ‘I… I kermitted a murder.’ He looking away. Jamie’s heart sped up. He was surprised that he felt sympathetic towards Kermit. He knew what it felt like to be forced to hurt someone when you don’t want to, and he could tell Kermit didn’t want to talk about it any longer. Jamie reached out towards him but thought better of it and snatched his hand back again. He shook his head. ‘So why are you here then?’

Kermit stepped towards him. ‘Famous animals have gone rouge. I need to find them all and take them back to where they belong. And I need your help.’ Jamie frowned in thought. ‘Which animals? You mean like zoo animals?’ Kermit shook his head. ‘I mean, the most feared animals in the world. I’ve tracked most of them here, at Rosewood.’ His last words rang out in a sinister echo. Jamie considered them with fear. He thought about his duty as a partizan, about Ellie and Lottie. He thought about his nightmares, and Percy, and Raphael. Jamie clenched his fists. ‘Alright. I help you. Where do we start?’ Kermit grinned.

In the distance, an owl hooted.

online creative workshop: clitbait’s creative collective

I participated in this workshop last night and this was the second week of their ongoing weekly sessions. I was interested to learn about the charitable cause the workshop donations was going toward, and also to know what intersectional feminist themed prompts they will be asking. The session began with the tutors, also the creators of Clitbait, introducing themselves before a team member from The Refugee Women’s Centre spoke for a few minutes about what TRWC do.

The tutors took it in turn to read out prompts themed around arousal, physical features and aspirations, and encouraged participants to create a poem, illustration, a song, or an angry rant in the given time. I liked the idea of giving prompts and illustrating my response, but I was disappointed that the questions were rather vague and not themed around intersectional feminism, and there was not an opportunity in the period of time following the prompts to open up any discussion on the topics. It would have felt more purposeful if a connection was made with the prompts to the cause they were raising money for.

Participants had the option to have their video on and audio was muted until the end of the prompts. The tutors would ask the prompt, and then wait for participants created their response. When they had finished asking the prompts, participants were encouraged to share their creations with the rest of the group and the individual was unmuted as they fed back. Some participants shared so many poems whilst another had composed a song and performed it on the piano. 

Although I was able to finish this workshop with artwork that responds to the given prompts, the experience enabled me to reflect on how I would have lead the workshop by encouraging participants through the creative process and giving them confidence to share what they created.

This took place on Zoom, with the link provided on facebook, lasted approx. 1 hour 45 minutes and a donation was recommended, paid via Paypal.

It was a really hectic weekend for me since yesterday was one of my friend CAS, I could not get any proper rest at all as I had a run event in University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Okay, now I would introduce what’s OGA. OGA is old girls association in which involves the alumni of Tunku Kurshiah College. Truthfully, I was not an athletic and active person in school. I was seldom enjoying sports competition but for the cross-country event, I never missed it in my previous school for five years.

During that day, the run event started at 7.00 a.m so my friend and I had to wake up early to prepare and check out from the hotel. It was so thankful that everyone got up at 5.00 a.m. I was quite surprised when I needed to run 5 kilometers to complete it to the finish line. At first, I thought it was fun run only, so it was unexpected actually, hehehe. I jogged a little bit and I discovered that the track was not flat at all. It was up and down because the area of University Malaya was quite hilly. I needed to boost my stamina up to finish the track even though I was so devastated in 1/3 of the track. At one point, I stopped walking and my friend gave the support to continue the track. I took up this as challenge and I told myself that there is always a finish line in doing something. I learned to push myself as hard as I could although it was difficult to maintain the pace.

Apart from that, I felt excited because I could get an opportunity to sight-seeing this university as actually, I should further my studies in physical science in University Malaya but I got a better offer from Tunku Kurshiah College to further my studies as IB students. As I reached the finish line, it felt very nice to end something you started. It reflected me the feeling of happiness when you got something that you worked hard for. And yet for sure, the activity was short but it gave a lot of meaning. Getting to be surrounded by the college alumni and few strangers, getting free drinks, I did not think this was an experience that could be obtained anywhere.
