Figures the second I express public-ish confusion about this supposed 'let go of ur anger/ego yang' aesop someone pops up repeating it. And I mean…where? When? How was she somehow 'worse', 'less noble', 'cockier' or 'dumber' than any other leads in the Beacon volumes ('specially Weiss 'grouse about not being team lead & tackle tourney rival into a lava geyser' Schnee or Blake 'try soloing a crimeboss and run myself to near-death' Belladonna)? Do Angry Effort Noises alone mean a character ain't zen enough?? Gawd, I've even seen vintage reach-du jour-takes claiming she basically deserved Cinder's framing. I just don't see how any of this meshes with what we see onscreen or constitutes an Engaging Character Epiphany throughline (as opposed to Weiss escaping Jacques or Blake's trials in forgiving herself & reconnecting with her parents).

Some days it really is exhausting being a Yang fan.

I don't know what it is about Yang in particular that just deletes people's media literacy but they really do just make a sport out of it, don't they.

Like how Neo shifted from her original vengeance stance and or gravitated to Ruby post ascension and wat the relationship is like?

I don't have the mind to write a thesis rn, but now that you asked, lemme tell you about the basics LIKE, I got deep into this ship because I'm a RPer, and I wrote a development story with a Ruby and ended up here

It's all post V9, but once my Neo manages to go back to Remnant (with the purpose of trying to get to Cinder to try and take her away from Salem to show true freedom), my Neo is, well, lonely, like she literally has no one to go back to, or talk to, and the Ever After for her was already enough of a torture

So she's a little desperate for real human contact- she still remembers how Ruby looked at her with worry before Neo took her own life to reach a talk with the Tree, and later even the Blacksmith told Neo about how Ruby actually asked if she would be fine, showing some interest despite the fact Neo did such horrible things to her

So once in Vacuo, Neo decides to contact Ruby first, if only because she feels she would give her a second chance, at least to stay on neutral ground, so they meet up, and Neo tells Ruby about her plan, or why she came back

But, she's still lonely, Ruby becomes the only person she has reached out for in a long time, so she inevitably requests for them to hang out more often, and with Ruby actually treating Neo well and giving her a second chance, well, Neo's being treated well and like an equal again, instead of being discarded so easily like Cinder did (even if in this timeline, my Neo and Cinder previously had a complicated relationship lacking a confession of honest feelings), so Neo, inevitably, starts liking Ruby a bit too much

The fact Neo's still a complicated person because of PTSD and her own traumas is another story, but with Ruby also still suffering of PTSD as well, they end up helping each other

Neo left her revenge and hatred for Ruby behind in V9, so it's not a problem anymore, really, it's just really funny she didn't expect falling for the person she was so horrible with in the future

Low key very curious how or if the time travel involved at the start will come up again or if it is functionally the stories unicorn. Either way great stuff!

This might be an odd question, so feel free to ignore it, but I'm curious about your view on Chloe & Andre's dynamic, as a lot of stories are rather charitable with him despite Andre being the primary source of Chloe's problematic behaviors.

I think it’s complicated, because, yeah, most of Andre’s behaviors stem from his inability to say no- he was mistreated by Audry as well, so that’s probably where a lot of his behavior stems from. But frankly, in my personal opinion, Chloe is still suffering from how he treats her as well. Chloe doesn’t really understand how to treat others or act around them because she’s grown up seeing Andre and Audry’s dynamic (and imitating Audry as a result). Andre just encourages Chloe’s behavior, because it’s what he’s used to from his wife. It’s a vicious cycle. Honestly, Zoe’s people pleasing tendencies likely came from her growing up with Audry as well- in the episode she’s introduced, Zoe states that she felt like she had to reinvent her personality to match the preferences of those around her, and it’s heavily implied that she made some poor choices back in New York. This behavior likely stemmed from her trying to please her mom, who of course, is never pleased.

Where did the inspiration for the sheep and bear miraculous powers come from?

I had a very interesting conversation about kwamis with @tumblingxelian which lead to me thinking really hard about animals as symbols in different cultures.

My personal theory is that kwamis are the animal that they are because the person who crafted their miraculous and bound them to the physical world came from a culture that associated them with that animal.

The bear : there's this fascinating theory about the Proto-Indo-European language that suggests there has been such a significant taboo about discussing bears it caused most of PIE's linguistic descendant's word for bears to have roots in epithets ! (The brown one, the honey eater, shaggy furred, ect...) I really wanted to try doing an ancient looking kind of unnerving kwami and the bear the obvious choice.

the lamb: @clemnoir suggested a kwami of sacrifice and i asked what animal it should be and we simultaneously went "LAMB". Adrien's version of the lamb is leaning more Adrien/catwalker than chat noir because it's really bringing out his booboo baby-ness.

That Duke & Tim swap is fascinating to consider. What's kind of neat/interesting to me is that Duke is actually a lot closer to the kind of Robin the writers probably wanted.

IE, they disliked Batman having allies and Robin in general. So Duke, a Robin who doesn't need Batman and operates more solo, would suit their preferences more character wise.

But this would also potentially lead to a very different dynamic and relationship. Duke isn't donning the Robin suit because Dick wouldn't in order to save Batman from himself.

No, Duke is donning the Robin suit because he thinks Gotham itself needs a Robin and he wants to take direction action to solve the problems he sees choking his city.

Likely leading to a cat and mouse game with Bruce and later Dick where Duke very much demonstrates that he's "Got what it takes" and likely leads to aa more... Distant mentorship. Though be it one that would get closer and more distant depending on arcs and writers, ETC.

Yep you get it also the idea that Bruce will be in the middle of his breakdown about Jason dying when he suddenly hears about a kid running around Gotham in a robin outfit

I also think if Duke was introduced at that time he would have been more formally adopted by Bruce since I can see a writer killing off his mother proper like they did with Jack in a similar story line considering Jack and Elaine were both sick/in a coma

Ruby HC: After waking up post Silver Eyes, the person Ruby went to for comfort and guidance was Yang. This is less a HC and more my interpretation of how she interacted with Tai & Qrow respectively, as well as her expression of confusion over what to do to Yang.

Yeah tbh, Tai and Qrow aren't exactly great at comforting people. Maybe a product of their own coping mechanisms.

And even if Yang wouldn't know what to do, I think Ruby would still go to her first.

Y'know what I'm still headscratching about? The so-called fndm experts who insist Yang had an arrogance problem (what, expressing confidence WRT a tournament=crippling character flaw??) and/or psychologically/physically neglected Ruby all the way up to V9. I've even seen one putz go off about her 'abandoning' Ruby during the Fall of Beacon by looking for Blake (I mean, Ruby was seriously lone-wolfing it from the moment everyone assembled to evacuate Amity). Like, what would it even take to shake peeps out of this...baked-in contempt they keep retroactively justifying with her dad's V4 lines?

Honestly it’s not much of a head scratcher. These are the people that don’t like that Yang (or any of the female cast) is actually a three-dimensional character and that she’s a title character. These are the people that are so upset that Yang isn’t just the blonde, vapid, party girl they were “promised” when the show first started (even though I could go on for ages about how even in her trailer we were told she was more than that). These are the people that are so upset that she dares to be in a sapphic relationship with almost ten years of buildup.

And honestly, these are the people I block and ignore because it’s just not worth the headache. It’s bad faith, and I have no patience for it anymore.

The Akuma City AU comes from a prompt by @natedogx15 in which Nooroo, in a poorly thought attempt to escape from Gabriel, uses his powers without him and accidentally unleashes thousands of butterflies all over Paris, creating hundreds of Akumas who begin causing havoc all over the city. To make matters worse, Marinette, Adrien and Master Fu are amongst the victims of Akumatization.

Months later and the entire city has been quarantined by the army, which managed to (barely) contain the expansion of the butterflies, and is a battleground between them, the so called independent Akumas and the subjects of the Akuma Queen, Princess Justice (aka Marinette), who managed to rally together all the less destructive Akumas and proclaimed Paris as her kingdom.

Things look pretty dire, but there’s a glimmer of hope in all of this… sorta.

See, when Master Fu was Akumatized he managed to resist long enough to tell the Kwami to run away and hide because he was afraid of what his akumatized self would do with them. Some of them eventually decided to come out of hiding in order to find wielders that could help them stop the Akumas and save Master Fu… but unfortunately they were forced to settle on whatever they could find: four teenagers with their own demons who, with the exception of one, wouldn’t have been considered good wielders of their powers in any other situation.

Now, these four teens, Crimson Bug (Luka Couffaine), Ashera (Chloe Bourgeois), Hamelin (Sabrina Raincomprix) and Volpina (Lila Rossi), will have to learn how to work together and face their own demons in order to save the city… if they don’t kill each other first.
