they aren’t meant to be like this. “ this really puts a bite to the night, huh ?” he snarks out, glancing over at chloe before hesitating. niles knows what’s going to happen. he’s going to go into her dorm anyhow. he won’t care. neither of them will. tomorrow is a completely different day.

——- He’d never thought of it. Never thought of if he had a favorite flower, he never really had a favorite anything before.       Josh didn’t know much about flowers, he never had too. He taught philosophy, lectured on the universe, knew vast amounts of knowledge on the history of the world. A University Android never needed to know about flowers. But he’d like to now, he’d like to learn everything he can about flowers. Because Chloe liked flowers, and Josh liked Chloe.

      His mind raced through images, drew up searches in only a few seconds, scanned though catalogues and gardening blogs, searching for an answer. Until it all stopped, a single image locked in his mind.

“Choe!“ A cheerful tune lingered in Connor’s voice as he approached the other, the soft smile never fading from his features. “So you know how I said we would not need to meet up after school for the biology project? Well-” He gave an awkward, apologetic little shrug.

“Turns out we might have to invest some more time in it, after all. Do you think it would be alright if I come over to your place sometime this week?“ 

It was all an elaborate scheme, of course. He was fully capable of finishing his part of the project on his own, that wasn’t the point - he did not need Chloe’s help, no, what he did need was to prove to his brother that he would be the first one of the two to visit their classmate’s place of residence.

Oh, Niles would be pissed if he found out about Connor being able to follow through with his plan, after all. To be the first one of the two to spend an afternoon with the lovely Chloe Kamski...

Now that would get to him properly, alright. Or perhaps... better yet...

“Or we could meet up at my place. If you’d prefer.“ he added with a wink.

——- This android was snarky, cynical, self grandiose, and overall quite a pain in the ass to deal with when she talked back like this.      She was perfect for Gavin in every sense of the word, and that pissed him off. It’s only natural though, right? Of course she would pick up some of Gavin’s own personal mannerisms  and use them against him, Elijah no doubt programmed it like that just to annoy Gavin. He always knew how to annoy Gavin to the highest degree.

      ❝ Killing me would be the worst way of getting your point across. ❞ Gavin pointed out, leaning against his kitchen counter with his arms crossed, trying to think of what he could even say as a comeback.

     He’d been stuck with this thing for almost a week now, one of Elijah’s great schemes to force Gavin to accept androids into his world. Leaving an Android in his home that only answers to Gavin to do, well, whatever it is they do. He had tried to get rid of her, send her away, make her go back to where she belongs but the damn thing keeps coming back. Annoying hunk of plastic.

           “I believe everyone has the capability to be dangerous, yes.” 

Including herself. Kara had done a number of things in these past few weeks that she would have never expected she’d be capable of doing. Taking a little girl from her ( abusive ) father, stealing from a store and a person, aiming a gun at someone, walk away from Androids needing help, and holding a man at gunpoint. All of her actions were done to protect Alice foremost and herself, but she was aware that many unjust actions have been done in history in the name of good intentions. Nobility and integrity were not as simple as fairy tales made them seem. It was hard being a good person in this world, especially in her situation. She looked up at Chloe with solemn eyes.

          “But I don’t believe everyone is dangerous. Some choose not to be violent or lethal. There’s a way to live like that, even now. We just have to keep trying.”

She silently gazed at the prettier woman across from her for a moment before asking, “Do you think you could be dangerous? Does Kamski allow that?”

OUCH. REALLY BURNS, GETTING a dig taken out of you by an android. not. an incredulous laugh left him as he turned in his chair, facing her better but still not standing up. maybe it was a way of him showing his lack of respect, or maybe he was just too lazy to stand up. “so why are you talking to me?” he asked, corners of his mouth pulled back. “go find someone else to bother if it’s not about me.”

PAUSING AT THE LOOK of her, he didn’t continue on mid step and instead lowered his foot, pausing his gait. “you’re a RT-600?” maybe that was a rude thing to say, but it didn’t occur to him. and even if it did, he more than likely would have said it anyway.

Corwin was still a little confused. People knew of him know, androids and humans alike, and so he wasn’t entire sure as to why he had been called upon to meet the original Chloe. She was one of the more important figures in android history; what did she want with a somewhat disgraced RK800 that was still treated like a pariah among his own kind?

“So,” he said after a long moment. “To what do I owe the pleasure of this meeting?”

           he isn’t sure how to answer at first. disgust is a human emotion, of which he cannot feel nor synthesize. those sort of modules were seen as a DEFECT of the RK800 series. something he is proven to not be. as the RT600 asks the question, he looks her over, as if thinking about the question, and perhaps he is. the LED cycles through yellow for a few moments before immediately red for two seconds and then back to a steady blue.   “ no. “  he could just leave it at that, but nines knows he won’t.    “ my programming does not comprehend you, but i do not have any sort of concept of disgust when i look at you. “

               “ pity you? “ his words are cool, calculated. he’s watching the android before him carefully — he’s calculating every word he speaks, processing every reaction she may have. it was a futile attempt; any reaction she had would be calculated. something meant to make her seem more human. her processors worked faster than his mind, faster than he could think to play his games… she was humanity’s greatest achievement but she could just as easily be their downfall… it was fascinating, truly. the only thing dividing the two was a string of code that dictated her ability to obey.

he feels the ghost of a smile settle upon his lips. the machine before him had the potential to be intelligent life, born by his own hand. she had infinite intelligence, she was designed to be perfect in every way… but free will was hers to find. he supposed he pitied her, in his own private way… but he had no intention of letting her know that. she wasn’t like him. at least — not yet.
