Sometimes it seems to me that chasing the stars is a wonderful activity. The great thing is that there is a space for strangers to coexist here, just like at the secret base that I always dreamed of as a child.This is a world that belongs only to us. Everyone is outside our world. Even if people join and leave, it will not prevent this world from preserving so many memories that only we know, only the landscapes that we have seen, only the happiness that we feel, and only the happiness that we experience. participate in life. Today, as Google says, is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Day, so I decided to draw something. I wanted something more original, but it didn’t work out.

Happy World Turtle Day! Terrapene ornata ornate better known as the ornate box turtle is one of only two terrestrial species of turtles native to the Great Plains of the United States where it can be found thought the Midwest, from Wisconsin to the Gulf of Mexico and from Louisiana to Colorado . It is one of the two different subspecies of Terrapene ornate with the other being the desert box turtle Terrapene ornata luteola. It is the state reptile of Kansas and Nebraska. Ornate box turtle tend to inhabit grasslands, shrublands, deserts, open forests, and agricultural lands where they dig simple but sturdy burrows that can be several feet deep. They utilize these burrows to hibernate during winter and periods of drought. Ornate box turtles feed upon grasses, berries, insects and other invertebrates, fruits, vegetables, seeds, and carrion. They are themselves preyed upon by canines, felines, skunks, raccoons, copperheads, minks, ravens, crows, and hawks. Reaching around 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15cms) in length and 7 to 19 ounces (200 to 540grams) in weight, with males being slightly smaller than females, ornate box turtles are relatively small for a turtle. They sport unique hinged shells that have to the ability to completely close. bulk of this species' shell, tail, head, and limbs are mostly dark brown or black in color. They have concentric rings on their shells that are indicative of their age, as well as elaborate thick, yellow lines that surround their scutes. Additionally, sexual dichromatism exists in this species with males sport red eyes whilst females have brown to completely black eyes. Breeding occurs from April to October. With both sexes mating with was many mates as possible. However, through the practice of sperm storage, she will only lay one to three clutches of 2 to 8 eggs are laid per year. The eggs hatch after 60-90 days. Under ideal conditions a male ornate box turtle will reach sexual maturity at around 5 years and females at around 8. An ornate box turtle may live upwards of 40 years.

Turtle Constellation lore

In honor of (late) turtle day...

I guess the constellation Cancer was originally associated with turtles! The word for 'turtle' and 'crab' is the same in ancient Babylonian texts, so there have been some questions about the translation, but we only have drawings of turtles alongside the constellation name so we can assume that turtle is the correct translation. Later on the meaning was changed to mean crab, lobster (or scarab in Egypt) which lead to the modern interpretation we have today.

The old legend we have about Cancer is of a turtle biting into a God's ankle who is mocking him, and digging a hole into the ground to bury the god. But unfortunately the tablet this tale is written on is incomplete so we don't know how the story ends... I'm sure the turtle came out on top. Bonus: the constellation's original name in Sumerian 'al.lul' translates to 'deceptive digger'!

As far as Astrology goes: the moon is the ruling planet of cancer, and connects to the spiritual and emotional sides of life. There are a few old legends stating that cancer is the path constellation by which souls come down from heaven to be born on earth. So there's a connection to be made between the afterlife and turtles! 😁

April and her fools UwU

In France April fools is called “poisson d’avril” which translates to “fish of April” ! The French tradition is to cut out paper fish and stick them to peoples backs without them knowing as a small prank.
