BOS 17 / Ghost Stations / 2 – 12 September 2017 ∗ Brittany Brush, Mirja Busch, Bettina Cohnen, Jakob Dobers, Malcolm Green, Yuki Jungesblut, Eva Koethen, David Krippendorff, Cody Maher, Signe Mähler, Louise Manifold, Julia Mensch, Ann Noel, Mira O’Brien, Sharon Paz, Daniel Permanetter, Grzegorz Pleszynski, Verena Seibt & Clea Stracke, Wolfram DER Spyra, Craig Stewart, Lena Szankay, Anja Teske http://www.berlinopenstudio.com/ Berlin Open Studio (BOS) is a contemporary art event, organized for the first time in 2014 by artists, art theorists and art lovers based in Berlin. The event provides insight in the city’s exceptional infrastructure on the level of artistic production: Studios throughout the city function as participating venues, in which individual artists not only present their work, but simultaneously host that of other artists. This set-up is developed alongside with BOS’ sister organization YOS in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and allows for a semi-presentational mode, in which artists define the terms of interaction. The first edition BOS 14 presented the work of international artists within the theme of Hospitality. BOS 15 Double Exposure included the participation of 26 artists and, as a novelty to the event seven art theorists and a program of artists’ talks. BOS 16 Under Cover ran from 5–15 September 2016 in individual studios in the Berlin city districts of Mitte, Neukölln, Schöneberg, Friedenau, Treptow, Weißensee, Prenzlauer Berg and Kreuzberg. This year’s much smaller edition BOS 17 Ghost Stations explores the mysteries of both the unknown and the uncannily familiar. Like an underground station left in perfect condition but closed to traffic, the artist’s studio is a world with all the tools to create realities and interactions. It just longs for visitors. Studio Anja Teske and Studio Turtlelab have both invited artists to evoke ideas of urban spaces caught between past and present, closed-off possibilities and hidden worlds, missed connections and chance meetings.  On two locations, BOS 17 will open up to the potential, ghostly realities of the artist’s studio and encourage encounters with aesthetic realities and among visitors and artists. Artistic practice belongs to a world parallel to the mundane world of the bustling city of Berlin, and all its activities and interactions provide inspiration for artists here.
