i cant help but look at ryuu’s theme as being unique in that it doesn’t always just get transposed from song to song, it changes with each song melodically. so, instead of the same intervals in each song, it’s sometimes just the rhythm itself getting recycled.
usually, when a character has a motif, it keeps the same intervals each time it’s used in order to be recognized. this is mostly true for the second part of ryuu’s theme (ex. bars 5-8 of objection), which I’m ignoring for now because it shows up in a LOT more songs than the first part. LOL
the title theme for dgs1 is the first time you hear this motif:
this song also doubles as an objection theme sometimes iirc. either way, it’s got his name in it, so i’ll just say it’s ryuu’s theme LOL. his actual objection theme is a bit different, starting out with a manipulation of the above motif. it’s the same rhythm, but it’s not the same intervals:
so, it feels the same as the title theme, but it sounds different. see how it’s structured to move up in the first half of the phrase, and then down in the second two bars? but soon after (after that part I mentioned earlier), it repeats this same rhythm again, but as an almost exact transposition of the title theme:
so, this time, it sounds more recognizable as the title theme’s motif. I wonder if it’s presented with both a transposition and just a recycling of the rhythmic pattern to get the player to associate both the melody and the rhythm with him? that’s probably overanalyzing, but that rhythm is pushed even further from the title theme’s melody in pursuit:
even though it’s in a different key than the title theme, you can see that it moves much more across the staff vertically, showing that it’s a grander variation of the theme. just looking at the first two notes, an octave jump has a lot more punch than just the single step shown in the first two notes of the title theme’s version!
i honestly don’t know what the intent was with this, but i still find it interesting and wanted to share. maybe i’ll go back to the second half of his theme and add on all those other songs one day, LOL.
i just think it’s fascinating that this one rhythm got used in so many ways! now that u know his theme by just the rhythm, i have one more fun thing to share. i think it’s likely this note pattern was based off of the beginning of apollo’s pursuit theme, which in turn sounds very much inspired by the rhythm in phoenix’s pursuit theme in aa1. the more u know =)
dgs2 songs under the cut:
i love that 2-5 has new arrangements and all that. it makes it so dramatic LOL. they even added ryuu’s motif into the courtroom lobby theme:
this one’s just a transposition of the version that opens his objection theme. fun! but it gets weirder in, again, a pursuit theme:
for the opening of great pursuit, this rhythm opens the song, but not in the melody. it gets passed around the lower voices doing things like the four bars above, while the melodic line alternates between what I think is a new phrase and ryuu’s other motif. since this bit is for the inner voices of the piece (all the parts except melody and bass), it is a bit more repetitive and doesn’t have much movement. it’s used as a driving force to keep the song’s energy up!
but it appears in the melody later:
*im not convinced this song doesn’t have a 2/4 section, so these might be the wrong measures LOL
and here, it looks to be more reminiscent of his objection theme again. maybe his objection theme was the first one that got written out of all of these..? or it was just used more in the making of dgs2′s music? i’m intrigued by great pursuit’s similarities to objection as opposed to pursuit, at least in this respect. maybe great pursuit is supposed to be more of a mix between objection and pursuit? who knows
#ok to rb!! let me know if it's hard to read tho.. it's almost 1am and i usually write this kinda thing for school LOL#so if it reads like theres a stick up my butt. well.#anyways. all comparisons and no answers.... maybe ill figure out the answer when i actually look at the whole motif (i am lazy)#dgs#dai gyakuten saiban#chitchat#long post#<- not really? idk#rhythm? more like ryuuthm *a hooked cane appears offstage and drags me away*

Potential Idea -
Boat Museum keeping with nortical theme
Aboriginal History Museum that would allow the traditional owners to share and teach their knowledge
Each would have inclusive and hands on activity’s
Similar to GOMA and Museum - New Activities every season potentially which would be good for children and parents during the week looking for activities.
Response to the Site and Client Brief:
My overall idea would be for this to be a day activity for families to participate in within the day and weekends. This would mean the activities within the site are going to aim to appeal to all different ages.
Public Transport
- Future building of apartments will increase activity on the south side directly across from the river, however current ferry stop closest to these apartments is currently very unknown. Propaganda of sorts could be included at the ferry stations, such as signs or billboards so that people know of Northshore and the entertainment it could provide.
Time Date: 9th of March 2021

Bulimba CityCat stop - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). (2021). Retrieved 17 March 2021, from https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2016-07-01/bulimba-citycat-stop/7547390?pfm=sm&nw=0
Current Ferry Stops that are closest to North Shore could be a potential ‘advertisement’ opportunity as the residents within the area are very close to North Shore and have ease of access. New apartment blocks are also proposed to be built beside an old army barracks close to the Apollo Road Ferry Stop which would increase activity within the area. Capitalising on this new development will increase stable and frequent activity and engagement within the site.
- Could approach Council on whether putting up a sign could be viable.
Time Date: 16th of March 2021
North shore - Very urban area with concrete and limited greenery

I would like to aim to bring more colour and life to the area. Paintings on the silo - preferably dreamtime art that could relate to the museum and interactive activities within the site. North Shore is including greenery and trees through the building of the park at the river front; refer to map. Leave this park free for people to sit down on - this could be cohesive for eat street as people may choose to sit on the grass. Previously Eat Street was included a open green area where people could sit, however whenever I have visited Eat Street since then I have found it difficult to find a seat, as well as very crowded. I don’t want to build anything on the park land as this could detract from the site.

Silo - Potentially could make it a “theatre inside”. I hope for this to be one of the most ‘known’ features of the site. Due to the feature being located inside the silo and unable to be seen from the outside, people will be curious to see what is inside. Change the activities every few weeks/months to generate more activity and to bring back others to the site. Silo has great acoustics as well, so sound will be an element as well.

Aim for the Silo is to be a relaxing place where people can go to feel connected to the land and to also learn of Dream Time stories, and making connections to the Traditional Owners of both Northshore and Brisbane. People can come here to when they need to relax and to also find meaning through how this land was created through the eyes of Indigenous Australians. Could also potentially have a link to one’s spirituality.
Aboriginal Art will also be projected on to the side of Silo so that during the night people can see the Silo and the art surrounding it. Potential for the Silo to remain open during the night however the museum aspect and activities will have to close during the night. My hope is that it will be a similar idea to when the Sydney Opera House displayed Aboriginal Art. This is a focal piece in Sydney, and I hope for this project to be a similar focal point in Brisbane, however it be solely focused on the Traditional Owners as currently Brisbane does not have a site solely dedicated to this.
Currently Brisbane lacks interactive learning activities in relation to the traditional owners of the land and the culture and practices that took place here. The idea of an interactive and informative museum to teach about the culture is something that Brisbane needs and North Shore has the potential to give.

Current Progress on Idea:
- Two warehouses next to the Silo; one that showcases
I will be looking at public transport as the main way to go into North Shore and capitalise on this through advertising as well.
Potential advertising opportunity on City Cats as this is the most accessible public transport option to North Shore.
Current Advertising company is RedTv, which allows for advertisements to be on screen. Has an outreach of over 4 million passengers with 92% of these passenger being 18-55.
Case Study Review and how we can relate this to the current site.
Time Date: 17th March
Updated Idea:
Using Shipping Containers instead of Warehouses; this would also link into eat street and make the site look more cohesive and as one site, implementing the core ideas of placemaking of introducing an idea that belongs and works within the current site.
This is taking inspiration and the idea came to me whilst looking at the Barangaroo Case Study.
Aboriginal History of the site:
- Traditional owners of the land --> Turrbal people
- Several camping sites throughout the area and surrounding areas including Bulimba and Hawthorne. This area was considered as the Heart, which could be in relation to a now lost dreamtime story. Previously, you could have walked across the River to either side --> potential to include this in a lifelike, smaller version, of this section of River.
Stakeholders:
This will include
- Community
- Owners of the site
- Businesses associated
- Northshore - Government
- Media; Social Media Presence; Triple Z
Mangroves on the site and link to indigenous people
Case Study Bangaroo project
- Can relate to the use of shipping containers and projections to my creative concept
- Showcases a “Symbitoic” relationships with market stalls
- Develops on the idea of looking at the history of the site

A particular focus on Dream Time Stories:
Dream Time stories are unique stories of how ancestor spirits created the land and everything on it along with the ideas they held about the Aboriginal world and how this is expressed through art ("Aboriginal Dreamtime Stories - Japingka Aboriginal Art Gallery", 2021).
Videos could potentially take inspiration from dreamtime story children books.
This includes
Girawe the Goanna,
How the Birds got their colour
The Echidna and the Shade tree.
Rainbow Serpant.
Artwork of Dreamtime stories that are are similar to what I’d like the videos to take inspiration from.

The images above showcase how the videos of Dreamtime stories would be shown within the shipping container, vibrant and easy to follow. However my vision for the video within the Silo is a little bit different to this as I would like to generate a different mood.
I would like the main video to be like a snippet of a large sum of Dream Time stories and the creatures within them flowing and entwining them, to showcase how they all come together to create this land. My main objective is for the Silo to be a place of solitude where one can feel connected and find peace. My vision is that there will be pillows or chairs on the floor and people can lay down and let nature float around them, due to the circular shape of the room.
I’d like to imagine it would look something like this. With the video image flowing around the room and the people within, being able to stand still and view the images come to life.

Activities within the Shipping Containers:
Tow Fishing Baskets, made using reeds and branches. Could provide resources and diagrams so that kids could build them. Could also potentially use them as ‘bags’ to collect shells and things however have to look into whether this would be considered culturally insensitive to use the traditional fishing nets as ‘bags’.
Other activities could include making Australian native animals that are featured in the dreamtime stories using clay or paper for this. Dot painting and painting of boomerangs and or constructing smaller scale versions of traditional canoes that could potentially tie into the connection the site has with the river.
Costing/Budget:
Similar to GOMA --> Annual financial report listed that for the activities and services it would cost around $18, 533. This will most likely include all resources needed for the activities as well. I took inspiration from GOMA’s activities so I will assume that this will be a similar cost for this project.
NAVA suggests that an artists commission on a 2 year contract will cost $10,000 a year on a 2 year contract.
EXPENSE, EXPLANATION + COMPARISON, TOTAL
Silo
Approximately $15,000
- Including landscaping…
$15,000
Shipping Containers
Estimated around $3000 for one
6 proposed, therefore an estimated cost of $18, 0000
$18,000
Project Mapping
2D custom projecting mapping on large scale curved surface (Silo) and on a smaller scale (within shipping containers) is estimated to cost $5,000-$10,000 (“The Cost of Projection Mapping | ON Services”, 2021). This will include video, and instaling the projectors and necessary lighting.
$5,000-$10,000
Activities
Under the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustee’s Financial statement for GOMA, it states that for supplies and services in relation to activities, cost a total of $18, 533 in 2018. As the activates planned for my creative concept are similar to ones at GOMA we can estimate it will be a similar cost(Qagoma, 2018).
Based on the NAVA Code of Practise it will cost $600 for a half day workshop (NAVA, 2020)
$19, 000
Advertisement
$250 per fortnight for 15 seconds every 30 minutes on a 12 month contract (RedTv, 2010)
$6, 500
Artwork
My idea would be to hopefully commission an artist to paint on the side of the shipping containers. Based on the Arts Acumen website ("ARTS ACUMEN", 2021).
$7,000

objection themes!
Alright!!
1 - Apollo Justice ~ A New Chapter of Trials! 2013: ... they don’t call Apollo’s and Athena’s “Objection”s but we all know they really count, right? Anyways. Apollo’s Objection Theme is just very fun and nice to listen to. I put this particular edition above Apollo’s other Objection themes because of this part around 1:07 in the video I linked... I just think it sounds really pretty, and it’s not in the other two objection themes. But I’d say probably overall Apollo’s Objection themes are my favourites out of the main three protagonists - I don’t have the musical skills to exactly put my finger on why that is, it just... is.
2 - Phoenix Wright ~ Objection! 2016: this one goes above the other Phoenix themes for the parts around 0:40 to 1:20 -- particularly the last twenty seconds there -- which again I really enjoyed listening to. The only thing I’m not a huge fan of in this song is in the main part of it there’s this sort of... faint percussion sound that keeps making me think either my headphones aren’t working and/or a cat is rummaging around in something, I did actually have to take out my earbuds when I was first listening to this because I thought a cat was doing something haha. It’s very faint though so it doesn’t bother me too much.
3 - Phoenix Wright ~ Objection! 2013: a cleaner sounding version of the one in second place without the percussion part. It has the lower part around 0:53 that I think sounds very nice, but I like the part from the 2016 version a bit more which is why it is my favourite of Phoenix’s. ... really with the DD/SOJ objection themes it comes down to tiny details haha.
4 - Miles Edgeworth: Objection! 2011: I Love This Song. It’s on my list of songs to listen to while I’m working because it motivates me. A lot of it is that it’s from my favourite game so I’m more inclined towards it... even just listening to it it jumped up a few places. The saxophone solo is very nice to listen to. It all just sounds very... cool? It has some Great Revival elements in it but much less prominently than 2009, AND it’s also used for Gregory Edgeworth which is really nice. even listening to this after finding the link moved it up a few places... and I’ve got to stop listening to it or else I’m going to retroactively add it to first place.
5 - Apollo Justice ~ A New Chapter of Trials! 2016: ALSO very good, I just didn’t like the new parts they added in more than the 2013 version. like I said. very tiny details.
6 - Athena Cykes ~ Courtroom Révolutionnaire 2016: I like how Athena’s themes are a more intense version of her usual leitmotif. It’s very bright and energetic... and I like this 2016 version more for the additional electric bit to it that makes it sound more intense to try and show her growth. it sure would be great if we could ever actually hear this more often when Capcom remembers she’s supposed to be a protagonist... regardless...
7 - Apollo Justice ~ A New Chapter of Trials!: here’s the one from Apollo Justice itself. Like I said, I really like Apollo’s theme. It just has less interesting stuff in this one in comparison to his ones in DD and SOJ.
8 - Athena Cykes ~ Courtroom Révolutionnaire 2013: even brighter than the 2016 version, put down here just because it sounds much... friendlier than the 2016 version? Like where 2013 Courtroom Révolutionnaire would apologize after hitting me in the face, 2016 Courtroom Révolutionnaire shows no mercy.
9 - Ryuutarou Naruhodou ~ Objection! 2017: maybe the smallest of DGS2 spoilers in this one? I like this one because it has elements of Susato’s theme and her character in it... it’s softer and prettier than the other Objection themes, which is fitting considering her characterization, but it’s still an Objection theme and she’s still ready to fight. ... also I liked seeing Susato on the defense in this part a lot.
10 - Ryuunosuke Naruhodou ~ Objection! 2015: a very solid sounding Objection theme, it’s very determined. There’s no real particular part that stands out to me in this one, nor is there anything I don’t like. Technically Prelude of an Adventure counts as an Objection theme as well, but I wasn’t sure whether or not to count it... so it’s going to go in here as well. They’re both very nice themes, though.
11 - Miles Edgeworth ~ Objection! 2009: jazzier Great Revival, basically. This theme is good, it’s fun, it sounds nice... but I can’t say I get as excited hearing it as the ones earlier on the list. It’s calmer than some of the other Objection themes, which suits Miles because he is calmer than the other protagonists, but that subsequently makes it a bit less exciting.
12 - Phoenix Wright ~ Objection! 2001: That Classic Objection Flavour, which is only down here because I liked the other ones more...? am I going to be attacked for this? anyways. This is the quintessential objection song which wins it a lot of points, and it’s pretty relaxing to listen to, it just... doesn’t do much. It’s the 13 second line with a few different interesting things in the background. It’s very good for the games when you’re not focusing on the music, but listening to it on its own is a little bit lackluster.
13 - Phoenix Wright ~ Objection! 2004: the first version of what would later be Phoenix’s trademark Objection theme in the later games. It’s only down here because I personally prefer the more authentic-sounding instrument sounds, but that is 100% personal preference and why all the trilogy objection themes are down here at the bottom of the list haha.
14 - Phoenix Wright ~ Objection! 2002: like, I love this one too. just not as much as the others? I like how they change up the one line. It’s really only here beneath the other trilogy ones just because it lacks the Nostalgia value on it -- 2001 is the classic, 2004 is used for Phoenix’s later themes, so this one just falls to the bottom of those three. I do like the sound of it, though.
15 - Phoenix Wright ~ Objection! 2012: so these are from the Professor Layton crossover, and there’s two of these: The one for the English Court and one for Labyrinthia. They’re both remixes of the 2001 Objection, and I’m grouping them together because they both fell to the bottom. I feel like they just... lack some of the energy of the original 2001 objection, and it feels somewhat slower too? and they didn’t do anything too remarkable aside from being played by an actual orchestra. I’d put the Labyrinthia one above the English Court one, personally, I just didn’t feel like making two separate points on this one haha.
But really though, my rankings were going all over the place when I was listening to the songs and jotting down my thoughts, and then AGAIN when I was composing the actual posts, and I’m pretty sure if you asked again tomorrow my answers would change. at any given time my favourite Objection song is whichever of the first four I listened to most recently, pretty much.
This is also the last soundtrack ranking currently in my inbox, but please feel free to send in more and give me more excuses to talk about my unjustified music opinions!
