it’s okay ! i don’t exactly have many rules for my fanfictions. i enjoy creativity whether it be dark or funny, so i’m always open to even the most unexpected of requests !

regarding genshin, though, i may be a bit OOC with some characters yet i’m willing to write anybody !! i will still write genshin !

As if his chronic insomnia wasn't enough, Azriel had taught his body some additional bad habits. He had succumbed to his whims, had given in to the allure of spending the nights atop the roof. The complication was that he had created a nightly routine of those visits to the training ring, and any deviation from that routine made him restless from his toes to the claws at the apex of his wings.

Stretching was his first order of business. He stood at the center of the training ring, rolling his neck as he extended his wings to their limits. He then lowered himself to the ground to continue stretching and finish his warm-up. He was almost finished when his shadows broke into a very familiar chaos. At least they were warning him these days.

He turned around to greet his visitor. "Up late again?"

Gwyn looked at the very obviously dark sky. A smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. "It would seem that way."

"Right." Azriel gripped the back of his neck, telling himself it was to massage the tension from his muscles.

"It's been almost a week since I've run into you up here."

Your absence distressed the priestess, his shadows said.

"I'm sorry. I should have mentioned I would be away for a few days. Court business," he lied.

In fairness, he had been on court business each day. His nights, however, were spent staring at the stone walls of his bedroom. Berating himself for his dependency on the new, accidental routine he'd established on the rooftop was his usual focus. Gwyn seemed skeptical, but she didn't push it.

"I understand," she murmured.

The apprehension in her voice was understandable considering he had all but fallen off the face of the planet. She saved him from having to make any excuses and moved to grab a training weapon. Azriel couldn't ignore the contrast of Illyrian steel next to the bright copper of her hair, the way her turquoise eyes glowed beneath the starlight. He shook his head to better concentrate, hoping she hadn't caught his admiration.

"I've learned a lot in your absence. Tonight may be the night I best you."

Azriel's competitive instincts roared. He leveled her with a look as he gripped the hilt of his weapon and widened his stance.

"Interesting. Perhaps I'll spar with both hands tonight, then," he goaded.

With an irritated growl, Gwyn rose to the challenge the way she always did. Azriel deflected her initial blow, and the two of them fell into a rhythm as if they hadn't missed a day. Despite the disparity in their experience, Gwyn was a refreshing partner. He still couldn't figure her out, and if he was honest, that was an exceptionally rare trait. Teaching her was refreshing, and Azriel wouldn't complain about that change of pace.

They continued until their muscles burned and the constellations shifted in the sky. Once the training ring was tidied, they collapsed side-by-side on their backs, both of them taking in the stunning Velaris starlight.

"I needed that," Gwyn admitted, rolling her head lazily in his direction.

Azriel met her gaze but promptly looked away. Being this close to her was overwhelming him in ways he had yet to process. "Me too."

"You're still not sleeping, are you?"

Was he so obvious? "No, not really. Why do you ask?"

Gwyn shrugged her shoulders and stretched her long legs. "I can just tell. Is everything alright?"

A humorless chuckle left him. "That's a loaded question. We don't have enough time to get through it all."

Her worried eyes made his chest tighten. "I wish there was something I could do to help."

Azriel thought for a moment. "Do you remember one of the first times I found you here, several months ago? It was only the third or forth time, and you were singing when I landed."

"I do. I hadn't even realized until you pointed it out."

"Yeah," he murmured. "Well, maybe it's coincidence, but that night, I slept better than I had in years."

Gwyn blinked, hanging on each of his words. He glanced back at the sky.

"Will you sing that song for me again?"

It was so quiet that he thought she would refuse. Moments before he stammered through a dismissal, he heard the initial notes in her delicate voice. So, she had remembered that night, too.

Moment later, straddling the edge of consciousness, he felt a soft touch moving his hair away from his brow.

"I don't really know how this works, but could you take him to his room? I don't want him to sleep here alone," she whispered.

No one had tried to ask his shadows for a favor, and it was so wholesome that he almost told her as much. Before he could get a word out, he felt the soft fabric of his bedsheets gliding against the membrane of his wings.

Azriel was asleep before he could ponder what it meant that his shadows complied.

✿。 malleus — when he found out you were ace, it didn't bother him at all. although he would probably ask for some clarification on what exactly that means. he's a little bit confused, but he wants to be a good ally nonetheless, so if you're comfortable with it, he would ask questions. — just to be sure, he'd want to talk about your boundaries again. he listens earnestly to what you say, making sure to take mental note of it. in general, malleus is supportive of your asexuality and doesn't want you to feel uncomfortable.

— he's very calm when you tell him, yet it could come off as disinterest. that disinterest immediately is pushed away when he began asking questions. albeit, still maintaining calm. ✿。 kalim — kalim is really happy that you told him! he just feels really honoured that you trusted him enough to tell him. although, much like malleus, he's confused. but, unlike malleus, he doesn't have much prior knowledge about asexuality. — he'll ask a lot of questions, and be very excited while doing so. he's just happy to learn more, so he hopes you don't find his energy annoying. once you're done explaining, he'll be overly joyed, saying things like "wow, that's so cool!". — overall, he's extremely supportive and he'll also ask what your boundaries are. the last thing he'd want to do is make you uncomfortable.

Aw, non. You know I'm always down for some Nessian HCs.

- How do they fall asleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals?

• Nesta and Cassian always go to bed at the same time, even if they don't fall asleep together. Nesta reads every single night -- whether it be a page, a chapter, half a book -- so Cassian eventually convinces her to start getting into bed earlier. That way, she can read until she's ready to sleep without staying up way too late. If she waits until she's tired to get into bed, she will still forego the needed sleep in favor of her bedtime ritual.

• Sometimes Cassian reads with her. Sometimes it's camp reports, sometimes battle strategy. Every now and then he indulges in a novel that Nesta has gifted him. It's usually true crime or a thriller of sorts, and she huffs her annoyance when he always figures it out before the end.

• Cassian stops reading before Nesta, but he's a snuggler. Even more so when he's really tired. Nesta always scoots down the pillow to accommodate him, wrapping her arm around his neck as he eases his head to her chest and throws an arm over her waist. She holds her book in one hand, splayed open with her thumb and pinky, as the one wrapped around Cassian draws idle circles on his shoulder. If not his shoulder, she runs her fingers gently through his hair.

• He twitches a little, his wings especially, as he drifts off into a dream. Without taking her eyes from the page, she grins and holds him a little tighter. In response, his wing closest to her settles across her lower half. Her own warm, weighted blanket to settle her nerves and ease her into sleep with him.

• They wake up one of two ways. Either they haven't moved an inch, Nesta's nose tucked into the hair atop Cassian's head. Her book is open, face down on the bed next to her, and that hand drifted to his bicep in the night. The alternative is Nesta wiggling lower in her sleep. Cassian half-rolls away to allow her to adjust until she settles beneath his chin. He grips her tightly against him with his arm and his wing alike, and they wake up wrapped tightly around each other.

• Cassian is an early riser, so part of his morning ritual is gingerly peeling Nesta away from his body without waking her. The first thing he does is start water for their tea, and he wakes her by sitting on the edge of the bed and kissing her temple and cheeks once its ready.

• They have tea together each morning in comfortable silence, taking in the morning sky from the windows of the House. They part ways after that to get their days started, but their night time ritual starts in reverse.

• The night sky from the house window, Nesta brews their bedtime tea. When they've drained their cups, she picks up their mugs by the handles with one hand. She walks around the back of the chair and wraps her free arm around his shoulders and chest. Kisses his temple once, twice, three times.

• She deposits the tea mugs into the sink, he grabs her book from whatever countertop or table she's left it on that day. He carries it upstairs with Nesta's hand in his before they settle into bed.
