This is probably a question I shouldn't ask: Would the dying Gemini coven still bothered saving Lizzie and Josie in the womb if they had - somehow, theoretically - discovered they could both be siphoners?

The thought came to me in the midst of fanfiction planning (and one of my OCs having beef with the twins before their relationship gets better) and it dawned on me that while most can agree the Saltzmans easily took things for granted, considering how Alaric and Jo planned to run and hide from the coven during her pregnancy, I felt that maybe the Geminis overall deaths might have been an unexpected boon. Like fine, everyone loves Kai as a great Villain, but I never forget that he didn't get to that point alone. The Geminis had a history of discriminating against the Siphoners born into their community and the Heretics pretty much confirmed that running away and hiding was necessary because torture and death (and death threats) was all that waited them once their Siphoner statuses were discovered. Why Kai was kept around growing up, only the untold past of the Gemini Coven knows, but if Siphoners and turned Siphoner/vampire hybrids were big No No's to the coven, imagine what would have happened if they knew "the future of the coven" were born the very things they hated?

Don't get me wrong, I wanna have good faith in Josette that her trauma with her twin wouldn't affect her ability to raise the girls...but given TVD's track record, I have to get on the realistic side that having children with the same ability as the twin that tormented you and following the order of canon that they might end up over-siphoning & almost killing you - so the band of hybrid Siphoners have to use their power to save you?

(Alright, that last bit might be the thing to heal her trauma with siphoners, but you never know! Plus if you follow the narrative, outside of Tyler Lockwood, notice how Caroline never bothered with werewolves willingly yet lets them come into Salvatore, where she had better relationships with the vampire and witch species throughout the entire show? Food for thought in that.)

So, back to topic: Think the Geminis would have saved the twins if they knew they were Siphoners beforehand?

Photographer Tyler Mitchell returns to his home state of Georgia to capture images that hint at the past histories of the American South for his latest exhibition, Ghost Images at Gagosian gallery in NYC.

Engaging with Southern gothic themes, Mitchell’s new images of seaside leisure (all works 2024) are rooted in his Southern upbringing and explore the psychological space of memory, questioning how photographic tableaux might capture presences that are unseen but deeply felt. They also ask if photographs have the capacity to document memory and express self-determination in the light of history.

This body of work was shot on Jekyll and Cumberland Islands, off the coast of Georgia, when Mitchell returned to his home state in preparation for Idyllic Space, his 2024 exhibition at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta. The images are set among the beaches, dunes, estuaries, park structures, and ruins of these barrier islands—landscapes of natural beauty that are imprinted with significant human histories. In 1858, the penultimate ship known to have transported enslaved people to the United States landed on Jekyll Island, an event to which the toy boats in Gulfs Between allude. Now protected as national seashore, Cumberland Island is the site of a ruined mansion owned by the Carnegie family, who once controlled much of the island.

Old Fear and Old Joys and Buoyancy are scenes of leisure and evocative compositional suspension. In many of the works, Mitchell veils his subjects. Ghost Image features a boy peering out through a shroud-like net, while the figures of Convivial Conversation and The sky is cold but the wing blood hot are transformed by scrims of sheet and kite that channel the sunlight. The artist further explores layering and ephemerality by innovatively printing photographs onto mirrors, and onto sheets of fabric draped over empty frames. Inspired by photographers who were drawn to intangible aspects of space, spirit, and the human form, including Clarence John Laughlin, Frederick Sommer, and Francesca Woodman, Mitchell employs superimposition, multiple exposures, and fragmented composition to assert material presence while picturing apparitions of the past.

This exhibition closes 4/5/25.

I saw an awful ranking of tvdu witches recently where somehow Vincent was ranked last.

Curiously, if you feel like answering, who would appear in your top 10?

Vincent at 10 is insane! Power debates exist so heavily with the TikTok/Reddit crowd is because witches were so undervalued in general and for some characters while they have their power. It’s really their only character trait seriously.

I know you didn’t ask but the TO women (and characters in general) suffer from this the most. In TVD while the supernatural world leads all plots they still have a real life outside of that or plans despite bad writing imo. Elena was a vampire learning how to be a Doctor. Caroline a vampire learning Journalism. Stefan worked in a mechanic shop for months! Tyler did give up on the police academy training but the consideration was there! Then the TO characters: Davina was a harvest witch and that’s all she was. A career or education plan was NEVER mentioned for her. Hayley hybrid-queen and a mother but ambitions? Career goals??

Sorry, back to the point! I haven’t watched TO in years and my memory is blank on legacies but my ten witches not including the Bennetts(I’d feel a lil biased since I talk about them all the time) and Hope (I do like character but so many issues… see here for some thoughts!) This ranking isn’t about power though more on peaking my interests/creativity.

In light of recent events, my mind of course started putting together a Hosie AU of Suits 😂

Hope Marshall is Mike and Josie Parker/Laughlin is Rachel.

Caroline is Harvey, Tyler or Matt for Louis. Maybe Stefan as Donna? It’s hard to find someone who has/could have that mentor relationship with Hope, the friendly-and-sometimes-not-so-friendly rivalry with Louis, and also be the mentee/right-hand/fixer with Jessica… (Let alone that smoldering dynamic Harvey and Donna had…)

Which brings us to…Bonnie as Jessica. She’s one of the baddest witches out there (I thought of Vincent before I landed on Bonnie; he might be better as a pure Jessica, but he doesn’t have that relationship with Caroline that Bonnie does).

Alaric as Daniel Hardman (I always got the impression that he was a bit older than Jessica…and certainly considered himself superior to her). Alyssa as the associate who was Hardman’s mistress, because always run with the joke when you can 😂
