[TW] death implied The trifle that started and never resolved for 100 years..
I like how they don't shy away from death in the game, getting bitten by a snake after having an argument with your bestie? Oof

Part of me really liked @schneiderenjoyer's addition to my last post about the argument that Ezra and Spathodea had and how the idea that not making any safety changes to the stadium is ableist and the whole "They can get themselves out if anything happens" angle isn't very helpful advice considering there ARE arcanists who just aren't that great at Arcanum, but another part of me also just understands where Spathodea is even coming from. Like yeah it makes sense to try and make the games "safer" from a humans point of view and for Arcanists and Humans to come together for some fun games, but the last time humans were allowed to see the games they did indeed change everything T_T. And it did start off as simple "safety" concerns that ended up with The Foundation full on banning entire games because they weren't safe for humans, even though humans aren't the ones participating and are just in the audience. It went from a way for Humans and Arcanists to enjoy something, to another way for The Foundation to control Arcanists.
I'd like to believe that Ezra would be different, and that he truly just wants to improve normal things like the integrity of the walls and the ceiling beams above them, but Spathodea is kind of valid in saying "Humans have literally every other sporting event in the entire world, and this is the ONE sporting event that caters to Arcanists, and I don't feel comfortable with you trying to change things all over again etc etc." That's just something I can personally relate to a lot, especially since the Uluru games seem less of a business thing and more of a cultural exchange between humans and arcanists.
I do think however that Ezra is right and that the stadium needs to be upgraded just so everyone is safe Human or not. But I understand why Spathodea would have this reaction as well.

if necro was with vertin during the uluru games event
vertin:it seems I'd never understand the complicated relationships between a man and women :(
Dessert flannel: eh it's alright mate who'd want to be in a relationship with a man anyway *shrugs*
Necro:yes especially since sir vertin likes only women instead
Vertin: I do?
Dessert flannel: oh so that's why? Wait what do you mean you do?
Ezra: wait how do you know miss necrologist? But miss vertin doesn't?
Necro: well vertin asked me to burn so-
*Vertin immediately slaps her hand over her mouth incredibly embarrassed and red*
Vertin: I told you to keep that a secret! And there's children here!
Spathodea: huh? I don't get it?
Ezra: neither do i?
*Dessert flannel suddenly realized what they meant*
Dessert flannel: oh... OH ummm you'll get it when you kids are older...
Ulu:well this is a delicate subject

Y'all I'm not even far into the Uluru Games story and I already enjoy the charm of it all. This is technically the first time we're seeing Human Foundation members interacting with arcanists and how much tension there are.
Ezra is so sweet, but clearly dense and lacks the understanding of the greater picture that even if his actions come from a good place, he does still talking like arcanists are meant to be a research study than actual people with sensitivities to being generalized in a blunt scientific way.
While Spathodea's disdain for humans (and the Foundation's oppression) has her perception be defensive and emotional. Even when all her points are understandable, it's sad to see her be just as standoffish to humans as any human would be to arcanists.
The underlying tension is so real here and the fact it's just casually never brought up too much in the story and all in between chaotic humor makes me laugh at how dark and grim things really are for the state of r1999's world. With just how much the Foundation has done everything to contain arcanists in a bubble only meant to serve humanity and how that causes even humans with the best intentions to be viewed as insensitive and unknowing (in a sense, the Foundation also influences humans to be ignorant on just how bad it really is for arcanists)
Also are we going to ignore the fact that Ezra literally used a tranquilizer potion while casually stating it's meant to neutralize both animals and arcanists during hunts in the same breath? (and I'm not just tripping, it's implied that the "hunt" part isn't exclusive to just the animals. Wtf Foundation)

Part of me wonder if Vertin didn't brush away the Kangaroo because she thought it was neat or cute, like the Shamir worm. You can see her arcanist come through in these absurd moments– irrationally calm.

It's one thing to be unbothered, but it seems like she's looking at the little roo doing his best. At least, until Desert Flannel burst into flames anyway. Then they fight our anime protagonist of the day. A hot blooded yet naive adolescent who fights with fire (i mean this affectionately btw in case it comes off as sarcasm).

Thoughts on the Revival of the Uluru games event
Alright, first of all, I'd like to start by saying that I did like the event. It was a fun little adventure, with interesting characters and complex interactions, and it actually made the laugh at some parts. Plus, it's a nice breather from all the angst of the main story. That said... I also think it's very weak on some parts and it could've been better done. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that The Theft of the Rimmet Cup (my least favorite story event) had slightly better writing than this.
(Spoilers under the line!)
The story itself has many problems, but I think the main one is the lack of a proper villain. Sure, we have Mr. Papparazi (forgot his name tbh), but his connection to the story is only with Dessert Flannel and his motivation is rather vague up until the very end of the last episode. Imo the story would've been better if we didn't have a villain at all and we instead focused on the conflict convincing the foundation to bring back the Uluru games and getting people exited for them again or something. We didn't need Mr. Papparazi and the story suffered a lot because of his existence.
Then we also have the ending... and, well... I don't dislike it? I think the message of "humans and arcanists coming together to compete, not to fight" is a nice one, and very needed in this universe. That said, I actually hate the execution. Let me explain.
So, we had Flannel telling Ezra about how Arcanists get injured more easily than humans, but because they heal fast, what they do is take an unhealthy amout of painkillers to bare with the pain until they get back to health like 15 minutes later, and they do this to be able to compete against humans in contact sports. It's even implied that Spathodea herself has likely done this as well, since she practices boxing, and it's obviously a metaphor for irl drug abuse in athletes.
Now, my problem is that the above stablishes the need for an arcanist-only sports festival, and the importance of the Uluru games... but then they say humans will be competing in the Uluru games as well! Do you see the problem?
Imo if they wanted the message to be "humans and arcanist should do sports together", then the problem with arcanists in human sports should've been different. Like, idk, arcanists having to hide their identity in order to not be disqualified from human sports, or maybe not being allowed to compete professionally because they're viewed as "too volatile" or something. But the problem they presented goes against the message of the ending of the event.
Idk, maybe I'm being a bit too harsh on it because it's a clear drop of quality compared to 1.2 and 1.3, but please let me know what you think!
