Story Prompt 49
In a quaint little neighborhood, nestled among the trees and chirping birds, there lived a curious soul. This person, hidden behind curtains and peeking through blinds, found solace in observing the lives of others. Every day, they would watch from their window, unnoticed by the world outside.
One sunny afternoon, the mysterious observer spotted something unusual. Across the street, in a house bathed in sunlight, a couple engaged in an animated conversation. Their gestures were lively, their laughter infectious. But something about their interaction seemed off. It wasn't the typical banter of lovers or friends; it was tense, almost strained.
As the days passed, the observer became increasingly intrigued by the couple's peculiar behavior. They watched as arguments erupted and reconciliations followed. They witnessed tears shed and smiles shared, all from the safety of their hidden vantage point.
One evening, as dusk painted the sky in hues of orange and pink, the observer noticed a change in the couple's routine. They began to spend more time apart, their once animated conversations replaced by silence. It was as if an invisible wall had been erected between them, dividing their once harmonious relationship.
Unable to resist the urge to delve deeper into the mystery unfolding before them, the observer decided to take matters into their own hands. They ventured out into the twilight, their footsteps silent against the pavement.
Approaching the couple's house, the observer hesitated for a moment before ringing the doorbell. To their surprise, the door swung open, revealing the couple standing on the threshold.
"Can I help you?" the woman asked, her voice tinged with suspicion.
The observer hesitated, unsure of how to explain their presence. "I-I'm sorry, I couldn't help but notice… I mean, I've been watching… from across the street," they stammered.
The man exchanged a knowing glance with the woman before stepping forward. "You've been watching us?" he asked, his tone laced with curiosity.
The observer nodded, feeling a surge of embarrassment wash over them. "I know it sounds strange, but I couldn't help but notice… things seemed different between you two."
The woman's expression softened, and she exchanged a glance with her partner. "Come inside," she said, gesturing for the observer to follow.

sonic tma au? 👀👀👀👀👀
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S BEEN SO LONG SINCE I’VE POSTED IT ABOUT IT EVEN THO I HAVE SO MUCH STUFF ABOUT MY SONIC/TMA AU
Okay to start out with, I’ve been calling the “Primal Fears au” and it started out as a working title but I don’t really have any better ideas and the tag I have on all of my posts about this tma au is #primal fears au (idk how to imbed a hyperlink into text but like if you go into the search thingy over my blog and just type that tag in you’ll see all my previous posts about it that are from OVER A YEAR AGO IT’S BEEN SO LONG 😭)
Okay uhhhhh idk how to organize this so just get ready for a shit ton of sketches and art lol
here are some more fleshed out character sheets (than my very post about them) for Sonic and Shadow, they’re not final yet tho obviously

was fighting demons drawing Shadow’s main design for some reason

general sketch ideas for Sonic and Shadow

And my favorite part of this au is that I just get to categorize all the Sonic characters into which fear entity would they serve so here are some character sheet ideas:

Okay this last one is Infinite and I know he’s not everyone’s favorite bc he’s just so…..mid ig in the games but redesigning him as an avatar of the Spiral has been so fun. Also bonus points if you know what Doctor Who episode I stole this dialogue from lol:

and finally I thought I’d just share an idea I had of a “cover” for my Primal Fears au

Okay I think those are all the presentable sketches I have but there are so so so many more ideas I have and it’s not going to help bc I’m feeling the annual urge to relisten to The Magnus Archives again especially bc the new season of The Magnus Protocol comes out soon.
But yeah anyway feel free to ask any questions/share ideas if you’d made your own TMA/Sonic au I love yapping about horror and this au is like my child. Actually that’s not a very good analogy bc all of my sonadow aus are my babies. I just love sonadow sorry I will continue to be insane
#primal fears au#sonadow#sonic au#tma au#sonic the hedgehog#shadow the hedgehog#rouge the bat#infinite the jackal#sth fanart#tma fanart#tma podcast#the magnus archives#the magnus pod#my art#sketches#blatant doctor who dialogue copied and pasted#it’s doctor who season 5 episode 8?#it’s season 5 i know that bc it’s the first season with matt smith#the episode is called Amy’s Choice and that’s everything else i can remember lol#either way it’s a good episode i thought the concept was really unique and i kinda wish they would bring the dream lord back#avatar i hardly know her#<- sonic when he’s a kurtis conner fan#kurtis conner mention i hardly know her

I think depictions of Anya being cruel to Curly or drawing out his suffering are artful and chilling but completely miss the point of the story and her character.
I'm not saying she doesn't deserve to have that "I told you so" moment with him but not in something callous or cold. Even if that is how it happened, she'd immediately feel guilty cause at that point she's not tormenting her tormenter or even the person truly at fault. She's doing something cathartic, similar to how Jimmy likely hits Curly to release rage he can't against the rest of the crew. She'd see herself as no different when she'd come back from the moment and see Curly cowering at her. She wants someone to take responsibility but how does being cruel to the defenseless help? Why would she want the power Jimmy has over her over Curly?
The idea of her extending someone else's pain is just so against the struggles she already faces and how she can't even bring herself to cause someone pain even to help them. Her very desire is to release herself from her own suffering and I doubt she'd even fine some sort of guilty release in being cruel to another.
#anya is not a character i see taking agency or indulging in cathartic behaviors#not knowingly like i see her as a character trapped in her head and maybe in the scenario she's cruel to Curly she is envisioning Jimmy#in his place but its not a story about justice or those deserving of punishment and those not like its the opposite of people projecting#their issues on the wrong people and saying things to the wrong people and doing things they shouldn't but anya uniquely falls out of it as#she is subjected to a lot of it but it is also not something she wants to subject another person to like you are doing what Jimmy does and#placing ur rage into another persons and viewing their actions through your eyes like she'd more likely yell at him than do harm or#cause him more pain like at least make it in character#but also she clearly doesn't want to see jimmy or curly in the same light and doesnt because she still repeatedly goes to Curly for comfort#and protection and god there's like concepts that need to be applied to characters individually and then the story as a whole#we can not view the game through only one themed lens less we forget to inspect the compounding factor of Anya is so much more than girl#that needs to be allowed to go off but a woman that simply wants right to be done by her and no more harm like she doesn't want to be aroun#the suffering like idk but some of yall would just benefit from like understanding that people are inherently grey with the capabilities of#black n white thinking or actions#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#anya mouthwashing#i like her the most but then again i am defensive of all women in media and hate when people change the way the character would take agency#for themselves like yes I want her to tweak out but she just wouldn't and I like seeing realistic depictions of a woman suffering the way#she is like shes not the type at the end of the movie to have a one liner but feel a shallow freedom cause she needs to realistically heal#idk but its just like there is an obbsession forming with making her character her pain and not how she handles and navigates the issue

The silly stupid alien show about ghosts that steal your cock and balls just pulled the most gut wrenching, poignant shit possible and portrayed it so artistically and meaningfully what is even life.
This was MASTERFULLY done. The visual and environmental storytelling, the subtle foreshadowing, and inject those motifs into my fucking BLOOD.
Ho. Ly shit. Good fucking lord.
#dandadan#dandadan episode 7#ok so it should come as no surprise that i grew up on paranormal stories about ghosts aliens cryptids urban legends the whole nine yards#acrobatic sara sara is one japanese urban legend i don't see portyayed a lot. it's a bit nore obscure so when i saw they included her#i was IMMEDIATELY hyped.#but this episode#they did something so different#so unique#this is what i love about adaptations of urban legends you can do so much with them put so much meaning into something so underdeveloped#and what they did with that concept. holy shit.#they took a baseline legend about an underrated woman yokai - something that there are plenty of - saw her gimmick#and just shot it out of the motherfucking park.#it made me insane and then it made me cry so hard i gagged im dead serious.#the art in this show has been beautiful so far but never has it meant as much to me as it did here.#i love these characters so fucking much.#i need to read the manga. please dear god someone tell me where i can read the manga for free.#acrobatic silky#dandadan spoilers#dandadan acrobatic silky#dandadan aira#aira shiratori#if you hate aira shiratori genuinely fuck all the way off.

Scott Smajor (cc) is such a good story teller actually and the common themes he uses in his storylines captivate me. I think we should talk about how good he is at Themes more often. If I wasn't so tired I'd write essays.
#scott smajor#his use of *grief* specifically#how it's often framed as *the worst thing* one can experience#how his roleplay(tm) moments in third life + a lot of witchcraft smp explore this idea#that grief = a death of the self as well and is uniquely horrifying in how it robs one of agency and hope#and how heavily it interacts with scott's typical central thematic focus on hope through continuation#his stories often convey hopeful and positive endings- even to tragic events- through presenting a world that keeps moving#where you have a path forward. a will and ability to carry onward. and a non-negotiable continuous consciousness interestingly enough.#notably even when scott's endings include death they don't tend to be true deaths.#there is a confirmed afterlife in both empires season one and third life#and scott literally reverses death in witchcraft smp#the idea of true death and subsequent *loss* is the biggest thing you can clash against scott's main themes of hope+choice+moving forward#so it's very natural that frequently loss#and maybe even more broadly any form of true *endings* as a concept#are framed through such a lens of horror and unique despair within the stories#because the storyteller is juxtaposing it against their central themes as the most hostile and irreconcilable thing with them#maybe i'm hyping up my cc too much by implying the minecraft roleplay is.#a dialogue with- and grappling of- the mere concept of finality and endings#(usually through death because that's typically the most profound and unchangeable form of finality we have any grasp of)#like i'm probably giving “is the minecraft based commentary about the relationship between hope and mortality in the room right now?” vibes#but like.#you have to understand how many recurring themes he uses#and how interesting they are#i believe in my cc's storytelling capabilities because his themes blow me away.#and even if it's not intentional storytelling (which i think it is because the themes are very well used and frequent enough)#i still find it interesting regardless

There’s something incredible about your aus that they start out with fun characters and world building ideas and then we all start digging underneath. And inevitably end up with a story that, for me (and I’ll only speak for my own experience here), forces me to think deeply about the world around us and life in general. And that is powerful stuff. /pos
Thank you thank you
I’m kind of dooming my AUs into that every time because I have this imaginary rule to make every storyline .uh. unique? Like if I already have “a human who randomly befriended a mer” then all other characters has to be something entirely different. So I end up starting to dig out references and experimenting with contrasting concepts and genres. And usually it leads to everyone crying because nothing makes such a contrast with simple fun as complicated suffering heh?
#the apocalyptic au is kinda new#but if you look at mecha au you will instantly see what I’m talking about#this is also why it’s so hard to convince me to add a lot of characters in those stories#at least at once#I can’t just say ‘yeah there’s also dratchet’ for example#because I need to give both drift and ratchet something unique before I add them to the story#I can’t just go ‘human and mer started to hang out’#because Swerve and Blurr already got that spot#it might be annoying I just realised#for all the people asking who would character X be in the au#but it’s just how my brain works#I’m kinda favoring the asks that add something new to the concept itself over the ones that are like ‘please add megatron’#i dunno#I don’t think the story needs more characters. I think it needs more fucked up layers of moral dilemmas haha

Kingdom Hearts 2 - Bulky Vendor
#kingdom hearts 2#sora#bulky vendor#heartless#my gif#i love the concept of a little gachapon heartless that you have to chase down#and i've always been a big fan of the reaction commands in this game#having all of these unique interactions you can perform with an enemy is so cool to me#i appreciate the effort put in to each of them and i'd like to gif as many as i can someday#bulky vendor's hp continuously drops as it tries to flee from you. the longer you wait to use the reaction command will-#ensure you a better prize#this is me getting the 'prime capsule' which is the best prize and gives you the most orbs and the highest chance to get an orichalcum#also... there's a tumblr blog themed after this heartless that leaves little capsules in the notes of posts and i loved that so much it-#inspired me to make this post so thank you. idk if they'll see this but this one's for you

something about the raven cycle kids and the quest to be seen and understood and the physical manifestations they have of their inner selves. gansey and his eccentric camaro that’s always breaking down. ronan and his raven that’s almost literally his heart. blue and her old beech tree that’s with her through everything. and adam who doesn’t know his true self; adam who is the trailer, the hondayota, the st agnes apartment, the magician card. adam who has to remake himself.
#ok last trc musing im posting for the night#I’m actually shaky on what Adam’s version of this is and I think it’s because he is the one who does not know himself to start with#and I’m obsessed with that#I do think it’s interesting that each one I name for Adam isn’t a unique concept the others all have that#he’s identifying himself following their footsteps#Adam is the trailer/st agnes. gansey is Monmouth blue is Fox way ronan is the barns#Adam is the magician gansey is death blue is page of cups#Adam is the shitbox gansey is the Camaro etc etc#the raven cycle#trc#adam parrish#blue sargent#ronan lynch#gansey#richard gansey#richard campbell gansey iii#gangsey

The fact is that David Lynch treats the subject of evil better than just about anybody else making movies today—better and also differently. His movies aren’t anti-moral, but they are definitely anti-formulaic. Evil-ridden though his filmic world is, please notice that responsibility for evil never in his films devolves easily onto greedy corporations or corrupt politicians or faceless serial kooks. Lynch is not interested in the devolution of responsibility, and he’s not interested in moral judgments of characters. Rather, he’s interested in the psychic spaces in which people are capable of evil. He is interested in Darkness. And Darkness, in David Lynch’s movies, always wears more than one face. Recall, for example, how Blue Velvet’s Frank Booth is both Frank Booth and “the Well-Dressed Man.” How Eraserhead's whole postapocalyptic world of demonic conceptions and teratoid offspring and summary decapitations is evil… yet how it’s “poor” Henry Spencer who ends up a baby-killer. How in both TV’s Twin Peaks and cinema’s Fire Walk with Me, “Bob” is also Leland Palmer, how they are, “spiritually,” both two and one. The Elephant Man’s sideshow barker is evil in his exploitation of Merrick, but so too is good old kindly Dr. Treeves—and Lynch very carefully has Treeves admit this aloud. And if Wild at Heart’s coherence suffered because its myriad villains seemed fuzzy and interchangeable, it was because they were all basically the same thing, i.e. they were all in the service of the same force or spirit. Characters are not themselves evil in Lynch movies—evil wears them. This point is worth emphasizing. Lynch’s movies are not about monsters (i.e. people whose intrinsic natures are evil) but about hauntings, about evil as environment, possibility, force. This helps explain Lynch’s constant deployment of noirish lighting and eerie sound-carpets and grotesque figurants: in his movies’ world, a kind of ambient spiritual antimatter hangs just overhead. It also explains why Lynch’s villains seem not merely wicked or sick but ecstatic, transported: they are, literally, possessed. Think here of Dennis Hopper’s exultant “I’LL FUCK ANYTHING THAT MOVES” in Blue Velvet, or of the incredible scene in Wild at Heart when Diane Ladd smears her face with lipstick until it’s devil-red and then screams at herself in the mirror, or of Bob’s look of total demonic ebullience in Fire Walk with Me when Laura discovers him at her dresser going through her diary and just about dies of fright. The bad guys in Lynch movies are always exultant, orgasmic, most fully present at their evilest moments, and this in turn is because they are not only actuated by evil but literally inspired: they have yielded themselves up to a Darkness way bigger than any one person. And if these villains are, at their worst moments, riveting for both the camera and the audience, it’s not because Lynch is “endorsing” or “romanticizing” evil but because he’s diagnosing it—diagnosing it without the comfortable carapace of disapproval and with an open acknowledgment of the fact that one reason why evil is so powerful is that it’s hideously vital and robust and usually impossible to look away from.
-David Foster Wallace, "The Theme of Evil in the Films of David Lynch"
#lynch's “evil as haunting” as opposed to “evil as intrinsic to individuals” was so profoundly unique to his work#and it's part of his empathy I think - even for his most terrifying and terrible characters#there is exaltation and relief in just letting the darkness sweep in and overwhelm you#real joy in being its puppet#there is a hideous vibrancy and vitality in lynch's conception of evil#that's kept it crawling under my skin for decades#it feels something like the truth of the world#things to come

obviously i have my biases, but i'm just curious.
a bunch of knights go through grail quest, but what i want to know is your preference for the GRAIL HERO specifically. bonus points if you tell me why!
as a refresher, here's all of the relevant texts they show up in and undergo grail quest
Percival
Peredur (Welsh) Y Seint Greal (Welsh) Perceval + Continuations (French) Parzival (German) Parceval (Norse) Perchevael (Dutch) Prose Perceval (Middle English) Perlesvaus (French) Merlin and the Grail by Robert de Boron (French) Le Morte D'Arthur by Thomas Malory (Middle English) The Quest for the Holy Grail (Vulgate) (French) The Quest for The Holy Grail (Post-Vulgate) (French) La Tavola Ritonda (Italian)

Lancelot and Arthur
Perlesvaus (French)
links are supplied by the Arthurian Preservation Project!
#arthuriana#arthurian mythology#arthurian legends#sir percival#percival#sir galahad#sir bors#sir gawain#sir lancelot#king arthur#percival in everything its absolutely ridiculous lol#also i don't have a link to dutch percy (YET.) but i know it exists its basically another translation of chretien#anyways should go without saying that percival is my favorite grail knight. just look at how many texts he's in#he's also the original ; the grail quest and even the concept of holy grail itself would NOT have existed if it weren't for percival#like the holy grail has become a part of english vocab and is so massively influential in soooooo so many ways#like IMO if you ask me; galahad may have replaced percival (very loaded topic that i'll get to one of these days) in lancelot traditions of#the grail quest ; he would not have existed if it weren't for percival#perlesvaus percival is pretty much protogalahad tbh#even didot percival as well the whole prophesied good knight and descending from joseph of arimathea and specific plot points#such as the mending of the sword etc etc#all came from percival directly those are not unique to galahad#but those are my reasons as to why i think he's the best and my favorite i do think all of them are interesting and unique#and have serve their own flavor of the narrative#even arthur lol like arthur is so good in perlesvaus its crazy

you know im unable to shut up when i have any opinion on zelda (though i try and have thus far succeeded at not commenting on any other concept from the darn book)- i find most totk ganondorf concept art worse than what we got to insulting even (of those i have seen) ..... this one though

much more the one in the background than the one up front, still at least he has the collar and the weapon we saw in the first trailer of things that never happen in the end (like so much else)
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#it looks like he got actual shoes in the bg one#which i like#also the big flowing robe is jsut cool as fuck#i like old japanese aesthetic but i still dont think it fits at all in totk#like its so clearly done to other him from the gerudo despite wearing their symbol all over#idk it looks so much more unique and memorable#sorry but totk gan normal looks a lil boring though i like the pattern in the robe#and his deeeemon form looks more like they tried to do demise again but not quite#like yeah lets use the design things on the uncool and forgotten and possibly retconned villain#and staple it too the much more known one :)#like yes he looks different from the gerudo still and very much still japanese in this concept#but it .... just kinda looks more unique and interesting to me#like in an either go all the way or leave it kinda way#yes i am biased#i love both demise and gan#anyway- i am still a prisoner of art (cant draw weeeee)#(plus IRL stress with my parents and weather change thus migraine yippiiie)
