fluff and angst

when josh is with someone, he is touchy. one of his love languages is physical touch anyways - his hands on your waist, holding you hand, hand on your back, on your thigh. anywhere you let him physically touch. but he also respects your boundaries, like a LOT. i mean as he should but he would rather die than make you upset. he always wants you to be comfortable around him.

josh loves with everything he has, he gets you gifts, tries to make you laugh and smile. he loves seeing and hearing your happiness, it is him main priority. to make you happy. but he still understands to give you space in an argument, yes sometimes he will say things he regrets.. that happens, but he does immediately apologizes, and try to make it right. if that means giving you space he gives you space, letting you sit in another room in his house for a bit and later on he knocks on the door with flowers (your favorite) looking like a sad puppy.

he kisses on your skin like he is marking a map, he's gentle with it too. from kissing your forehead down towards your stomach. always making sure to leave kisses all over your face, and in between each kiss he whispers how much he loves you, how amazing you are, and so on. making sure each kiss and touch isn't to much - feeling like if he did kiss hard or something you would fade away .... and with each kiss, hearing your giggles and "josh oh my god" he would start to smile and 'kiss attack you'. this man wants to make sure he loves you and not just lust over you.

after his sisters passing he goes through a lot mentally and physically, he still loves you of course but he isn't all mentally there and he can't bring himself to have the energy to be in a relationship. and he knows he can't give you want you need, so he distances himself and he hates himself for it. even the days he can't get out of bed, or take care of himself and you are there to help him means a lot to him.

i feel like he was mute for a while, not talking to anyone. not even you, overall just not fully there and only giving small hums or nods.

he lays his head in your lap when he's sorry, kissing your hands, rubbing his thumb against your knuckles all like "baby I'm so sorry, please"

he also is a flirt yes, he can make you flustered and all warm in the face but he is scared of intimacy. he wants to make sure your first and his first time is the best time, wanting to treat you like a goddess. not wanting to be rough, taking it slow. making sure you both feel good. calling you beautiful and perfect during the entire interaction. asking if you feel good, if anything hurts. and after care is great to. he treats you with care, cleaning you up and probably having a bath together. kissing where he left hickeys. getting you warm and comfortable clothes, making the bed and cuddling you. asking if you need any water or something to drink.

Woah woah woah woah woah ..... say less. The underrepresentation of this ship in the fandom is cray cray so here are some more headcanons I have for them!!

My overall opinion, they are so lovely and have so much potential 🥺 I am simply a sucker for best friends to lovers and I'm sold each and every time it is fed to me. That being said, the complexity of Sam's feelings for the Washingtons is my personal special interest...

I like to think that some of these confusing feelings she held for her best friend may have transferred over to that friend's older brother following her disappearance.... thus birthing Josh/Sam.

God Hannah was SO excited for this trip. There wasn't anything especially out of the ordinary about plans for the gathering, but she just had this feeling in her gut. Something big was going to happen. It filled her with anticipation.

She couldn't contain her giddiness and constantly texted Sam about her excitement leading up to the day. It made Sam feel a bit better about the upcoming get-together.

Sam had been having some anxiety surrounding the latest trip. She had started to notice some... red flags, let's say; amongst some of the people in her friend group and worried about spending a weekend with them and the trouble that could arise.

She wouldn't tell Hannah these concerns, especially seeing her excitement at the mere mention of the get-together her and her siblings were planning. Hannah already struggled a bit in these larger social situations and seeing her light up at the prospect of one was a positive thing in Sam's mind.

Of course, 90% of the discussions about Hannah's excitement centered around Mike's presence and the things she hoped she would get to do with Mike....

Sam tried so very hard to shove a lot of those anxious heartache feelings away. She did not want to find out where they were coming from. Let alone threaten to entertain them.

She tried drawing and sketching the group to ease her nerves when simply partaking in the substances brought to the party wasn't enough to take her mind off things.

The first portrait she drew from the group was Hannah's

She couldn't seem to get Hannah off her mind that night.... despite all of the shenanigans and craziness all around from everyone

The combination of nerves and seeking a distraction got Sam thoroughly sauced and out of it, keeping her glued to her sketchbook until she started noticing things happening around her... whispers and glances in her direction...

She finally picked up on the group's plan to pull some kind of "prank", catching a sly remark from Emily and Jess as they discussed the contents of their written note.

Sam's hazy mind eventually pieced together who their intended target was, trying to sort out her jumbled thoughts...

A/N: there is nothing i love more than doing hcs, tysm for requesting some!! i had a ton of fun writing this, so if you would like a part two, i'll do it! (i literally saw this req and immediately got up to write it) also i mentioned some poc things in here cuz i'm latino, soooo if anyone wants me to write any character x poc! reader, i am SO down.

mike is a very secure, confident partner. he's perfectly fine with you having male friends or spending alone-time with a guy.

but when another guy is clearly flirting with you?

oh boy.

he would go up to you and casually sling an arm around your shoulder, subtly hinting to the other guy that you are taken. if the guy doesn't take the hint, mike would butt in the conversation and would keep referring to you as his "love" or "beloved" until the guy leaves.

he isn't afraid of confrontation or anything, he just doesn’t want to waste time on someone like that.

if mike were to meet your parents, he would be confident and casual. he'd obviously hold back on the pda and profanity, but overall he wouldn't be too stressed about it. mike is very confident that he could win the approval of your parents. because of how calm he is, he'd probably treat your parents like old friends.

but if you're a person of color, he'd try a little harder. mike would present himself a bit neater, would constantly mention his successes, intelligence, job, etc. he'd even put in the effort to follow your family's customs. like if you eat with your hands, he has no issue doing so. or if you have a larger family, especially if they don't speak english, he would probably try to learn the language and get along with them all. he really wants to gain their approval.

these hcs make him sound like a saint... but the number one issue in your relationship with mike is that he tends to be a bit ignorant when it comes to your feelings.

for example, if you were at a party and you told mike you were uncomfortable and wanted to leave, he would be like: "what? why? this party's great! just go and talk to people, it isn't that hard."

he's nice about it, he just doesn't understand. he may even tease you about it.

"what? are you scared of social interaction? oh no, a conversation! the scariest of all weapons!"

but he shuts up immediately when he actually sees how uncomfortable you are, then he'd help you out. he's a nice boyfriend, just not the most understanding sometimes.

when you are genuinely in distress (emotionally), he would drop everything to help you and get rid of whatever is troubling you. if there's a chore you are too stressed to get done, he's helping you with it. if someone's messing with you, he'll have a... 'chat' with them. even though mike isn't too good with emotions, he hates seeing you stressed or sad. even if you're in denial or claim that you "don't need help" he isn't having it. he's stubborn, and he WILL help you.

mike's love language is probably either physical touch or quality time. if you're taller than him, he'd probably rest his arm around your waist. if you're shorter, he'd like to tease you sometimes by having his arm on top of your head, but mainly around your shoulders. he isn't afraid of showing off his partner to others, so he likes holding you at all times in some kind of way.

he also loves quality time. doesn't matter how. whether you're out at dinner somewhere, or just sitting in the same room scrolling through your phones in silence. he isn't picky, he just likes being around you.

mike strikes me as the type of boyfriend to always offer to drive you to places, even if you're a better driver than him. you'd be in the passenger seat and you get to choose what music to listen to, while mike has one hand on the wheel, and his other hand resting on your thigh.

when you're spending time with mike, you laugh a lot and mess around like kids, but after 3-4 hours of hanging out, you're suddenly talking about the meaning of life and your biggest fears and covering them up with jokes. he's versatile!😻

overall, he's a nice, funny boyfriend. even if he isn't extremely good with emotions, he tries his best with you.

I've been thinking a lot about Jossam lately, totally obsessed, and I've come up with some headcanons!

• Josh is a film enthusiast, and this is clear as a crystal. Just like that fact, he loves Sam. They say every artist has their muse, their inspiration—and for some, it's distant people, historical figures, or even actors or musicians. Josh is no different; he has his muse, and luckily for him, it's his sister’s best friend.

• Josh is an artist. He loves working on small film projects to tell little stories he's written. Of course, he always finds a way to get his friends involved, whether it’s Jess playing a Carrie remake or Emily as a masked killer... But none of them came close to being in as many projects as Sam. Josh always put Samantha Giddings in his films. She was always the lead, the final girl, the one who gets the guy at the end, the princess, the superhero—because that’s who she was and always had been to him, the protagonist of his life.

• Sam loved being part of those amateur films. She always thought Josh's artistic vision was beautiful, even if that wasn’t the reason she kept doing it. She loved listening to him talk about his ideas, loved how focused he became, loved hearing him go into detail about every little thing he had in mind. His mind fascinated her. She was in love with everything he did, in love with him, which, on its own, made everything he had to offer—even the "little things"—feel magical.

• One time, a town fair caught Sam’s attention. It was an animation competition, and when she read about it in the paper, the first person who came to mind was Josh Washington. Well, she was the girl who did the drawings, but he was the guy who handled everything else. Maybe it was her way of trying to spend more time with him. POST GAME DARING DUO i am so sorry for the late reply but i'm here and i'm filled with Thoughts - i think they move in together and i don't think they really plan it out - actually, to me, sam dips for a few months post game and doesn't respond to anyone while she's trying to figure shit out - during this time matt and emily break up and so do mike and jess - mike and jess are amicable they just. every time they touch, glass shatters. they need time alone and all mike sees when he looks at jess is snow and steep falls and not being fast enough - just as much as mike feels guilty about jess' injuries, jess feels sick about him having to hack his own fingers off while looking for her - they care so deeply for one another, but not romantically - this is going to be a long post why am i talking about mikejess - OKAY ANYWAY. after him and jess break up mike misguidedly buckles down to finish the college semester and it almost kills him - he can't sleep, his mobility is down, he's smoking and drinking to try to distract himself and to feel better - mike is the only one who gets any texts from sam, which is funny because he's ignoring everyone else for completely different reasons - she shows up at his apartment and finds him passed out in the kitchen. she doesn't really leave again after that - he hates the loss of independence but she isn't really taking care of him that much, she's just. there for him. they understand each other - she sits outside and waits for him when he's at physical therapy and helps him remember his stretches, he tells her what people are saying if she can't hear - they take turns picking movies until one of them falls asleep - he puts a blanket over sam if he finds her sleeping on the couch and carries her to bed if he finds her sleeping at the table - sam keeps up her gym and rock climbing habits and mike goes with her as soon as he's able - being able to climb saved lives. sam is not going to let herself lose that skill - mike just needs to be as prepared as possible, so he learns climbing and trains endurance and overdoes his physical therapy - they go grocery shopping together and bicker over mike's junk food vs sam's "vegan shit" - (mike researches vegan brands and keeps the pantry stocked) i have more to say about this if they fall in love. if anyone wants this part 2 drop an ask lol

Hii!! Just saw one of your posts so, how do you think that the ud characters would be postgame?? Like, how do you think that the Blackwood events affected them?? (I hope you understand what I'm saying)

Omg hi! So, really I haven't got any solid postgame hcs, but I have a couple-

Jess and Em get past their arguement and become friends again. I think this a pretty common one but I can't imagine continuing to hate ur friend after going through all that.

Jess never turns her back to windows anymore, and generally keeps her distance from them. She slowly gets past this but it takes years.

Emily doesn't like the dark anymore and refuses to go into rooms without the lights on.

Emily mostly tries to keep on but definitely struggles, she goes to therapy.

Sam straight up disappears for a while after Blackwood, just goes away for a few months. She does come back, but most of her friends don't know where she was for that time. (Got this one off a friend I was talking with).

Sam is mostly deaf in her right ear after Hannah screamed right into it.

Jess was really injured, and she spent a while in hospital. She sometimes uses crutches. (Again, a kind of common hc but I like it alot).

Sam had some burns from the lodge exploding.

Em (if bitten) has to go to hospital as well and is on antibiotics and all sorts because her bite gets infected. (I dread to think how much bacteria and filth was in Hannah's mouth considering her diet). Em's bite becomes a scar eventually. (I have a few thoughts abt Em's bite, I might talk abt that some time).

Ashley struggles to sleep, and barely leaves her house for the first few months after. She spends most of her time in her room writing in notebooks, trying to process what happened and venting. She also draws a lot, again to try process what she saw.

Mike tries to keep on as normal- goes to college, gets himself a job and tries to stay in contact with everyone. He never lets himself be alone.

Mike does get a dog eventually.

Matt becomes much quieter, but kind of like Mike he just tries to keep going. He does stay off college for a while though, and goes to counselling. He mostly hangs out with Mike and Em and Jess. He also checks in on Ashley alot when shes still at her worst.

Matt becomes very afraid of heights.

Matt spends a lot of time with Jess while she's still in hospital, usually with Em there too because she's always there.

Chris' sprained ankle takes a while to heal, and acts up easily even when it is healed.

Chris spends most of his time sleeping so that he doesn't have to think.

Ashley is the first person to visit Chris and he only really hangs out with her for months before he speaks to anyone else from the group.

JOSH HEADCANNONS - ANGST

for a long time josh's parents didn't let anyone over, for their sake and josh's. he wasn't stable enough by himself, let alone anyone else. after the incident on the twins passing a good portion of the group went silent, or sent "pity sorry's" because of COURSE they felt bad. they were the cause of his sisters running outside.

most of the group was quiet except for sam, and chris at least. trying to convince his parents to let them talk to him, help him. it took months maybe for them to let the two talk to josh. and when they finally did they saw how much pain he was in, his room in disarray, clothes pilled up on the floor and he was rotting away in bed. chris would talk to him, and so would sam. she would help clean his room, get him some food and help him clean himself -- because he didn't listen when his parents tried to help, slowly but surely he started acting fine, he was on medication and had two people that actually cared for him - not pity him. of course they didn't know what was going on in his head, but they were there for him.

and the months leading up to the prank josh was going to make, to hurt the others - he was finding ways to hurt chris and sam, the closest to him, the ones that cared. because if he was going to hurt the ones that caused the death of his younger sisters, why not the ones that didn't?? the ones that were there for him in the aftermath?

if he was going to lose all his friends why not go all out, in his mind they probably didn't care for him anyways right? push them all away so they didn't have to care for him anymore, so he could be alone.

That being said, here are some self-indulgent platonic headcannons about the early stages of their friendship….

They met in middle school early on, probably in 6th grade.

Hannah and Beth were popular in school, in the sense that everyone knew who they were (due to their parent's notoriety/fame), but they tended to keep to themselves

Sam was a quiet kid who didn't really have friends to speak of outside of the hallway acquaintances here and there

They met at lunch period towards the beginning of the school year when they were assigned tables

Sam was wearing a Justice esc. T-shirt with a sparkly horse graphic and Hannah couldn't help but instantly NEED to gush over the design.

Yes they were all 3 horse girls

They also bonded over not being fans of the school lunch, Sam in the early stages of her decision to become vegan started being unable to stomach the thought of meat and Hannah simply hated the slop-like appearance of the sloppy joes being served that day.

Beth may or may not have called them picky and offered to eat their leftovers

From then on Sam was invited over to the Washington’s nearly every other weekend

Also introducing Sam to Josh and Chris as their sleepovers tended to overlap

Sam got to go horseback riding for the first time when Hannah found out she had never gotten to and offered to take her to their family's rented stable one day

There is a photo of the day in question with Sam riding the sisters' shared horse and Hannah holding the lead, both with the biggest smiles on their faces, hung up on the Washington’s fridge
