Iris woke up in a daze, and in the backseat of an unfamiliar vehicle.

She hadn’t slept that night. Management would have caught her if she’d been doing any streaming, even unofficially, but... they couldn’t catch her if she was playing games offline. And Mom wouldn’t notice anything if school wasn’t in session. She could just grab a Red Bull, or two, or four, and just power through the day, right?

Not for someone with a long history of fainting spells. Not for someone still recovering from surgery. And certainly not for someone who had a busy schedule of idol activities at Lemniscate.

Truth be told, she couldn’t remember anything about this morning. All she could tell was she was now in a car, in the backseat, and with... with someone really familiar driving it. She couldn’t see the face in the mirror’s reflection, but the hair seemed really familiar for some reason...

With her eyes still unfocused, she tried to put a name to this driver. “D....Date?”

It was nearing the end of 2021, and Tesa had some huge plans for her ShovelForge streams in 2022. She’d already made a private server, but she wanted to take it to the next level and make fully custom maps, emulating Shinjuku-ku down to the tiniest detail. While she hadn’t made any sort of public announcement, she was testing the waters with some of her superfans, messaging some names she regularly saw on her streams and gauging if her larger audience would be interested.

And, wouldn’t you know, that’s how she gallantly hopped into a certain someone’s DMs on To-witter, with zero inclination as to who was behind the screen:

And with that, the wheels were set in motion.

It was getting close to four in the morning. This was a stream to a select number of people - the super-dee-duper fans, as Tesa would call them! Not just the hardcore fans, but the people Tesa trusted the most, the ones who she thought had a good heart. Ota was in the chat, of course, but so was her new favorite ShovelForge comrade, ShuWin.

“I was just messing around, but... who knows! Maybe I could incorporate it into my next single! Ooh, and if it gets popular... I’ll give you guys all the credit!”
