âSugar Rush Left Behindâ Chapter 2: âThe Players Love Herâ
Mr. Litwak had just installed the new steering wheel for Sugar Rush. The 9 racers chosen for the roster that day (at random, so everyone could have a chance) stood on the podium next to the race course. Dozens of candy characters cheered in the bleachers.
Also in the audience sat Tamora, Felix, and the security guard for Game Central Station, Surge Protector. The married couple had insisted on being there to support them for their first race after being reinstated.
âIâll get back to Heroâs Duty before any player can say, âLetâs shoot some cybugs!ââ said Tamora with unbridled enthusiasm.
âAnd the same for my game,â added her husband.
Rancis, standing on the podium, noticed the other racersâ elation at being back in business, and the similar energy from Felix and Calhoun.
âI should be happy too,â he thought. âIâm not game-less any more.â But he couldnât shake that empty feeling inside.
Suddenly, a familiar, booming voice came from the large screen listing the roster. âQuarter alert!â
âAlright, head in the game,â Rancis told himself.
Rancis climbed into his Reeseâs peanut butter cup-themed kart. Markers indicating the players hovered over Taffyta and, actually, him.
3 lights, and they were off.
Rancis let the player guide his kart across the track, around racers and giant gumball obstacles. He didnât need to concentrate much, but that only let him dwell further on the fact that Vanellope would neither be racing alongside him nor cheering from the audience.
His kart grabbed each power-up box it came across, and each item hit its mark. This caught his attention, as normally players would often run into at least the occasional obstacle. By the time they reached the jumping ramp out of the giant cake, his player had brought him to 3rd place. Only Taffyta and Adorabeezle remained ahead of him, and only by a few kart-lengths.
Shortly after they flew off the ramp, Taffyta threw an expertly-timed power-up at Adorabeezle, stopping her midair and sending her into the cupcake frosting below.
Taffyta laughed in her usual, haughty way. While Felix and Calhounâs teachings about being kinder seemed to impress on the other racers, Taffyta only seemed to be nice when Felix and Calhoun were watching.
It was player versus player now. Powdered sugar snow began to pelt Rancisâs face, he looked around for Taffyta, but no sign of her. Suddenly, she ripped past him, coating his kart in the snow before they plunged into darkness.
The sugar crystal caves glimmered at the kart headlights, and the roar of the engines echoed throughout. Taffyta still rushed ahead, but Rancis slowly gained. Back into the sunlight, and the race was almost over. Every second, Rancis drew closer and closer. The finish line came into view. Just a couple more kart-lengths. Taffyta hit one of the boxes from the last line of power-ups, and less than a second later, so did Rancis.
The other player launched the item at Rancis, but his player anticipated it and swerved out of the way. Then at the player's command, he launched his perfectly-aimed power-up, causing Taffyta's kart to spin out. Rancis sped forward, and before Taffyta could catch up, he crossed the finish line.
âWow, I finally won,â he thought, âafter so long.â Then he spotted Taffyta coming to a stop beside him.
Rancis knew what it was like to have someone just beat you at the last second at a race, so despite everything, he still felt bad for her. âOh, golly. I'm sorry you didn't win, Taffyta,â he said with sincerity.
Taffyta looked unimpressed for a moment, but as soon as she caught a glance of Felix and Calhoun, her expression turned nicer. âPfft! Our friendship is much more important to me than winning, Rancis.â
***
Rancis stood on the podium, trophy in hand. One of the players looking through the screen was whooping in victory. For the first time since he heard that Vanellope had left for good, Rancis smiled. He looked back up at Felix, Tamora, and Surge Protector. Oddly, Surge looked actually surprised. Could it be because of how he pulled ahead last minute?
Felix and Tamora waved goodbye to all the racers and left the stands for Game Central Station, with Surge rubbing his forehead, still apparently in shock. There were no more players for a few minutes, so the participating racers discussed the race with the ones sitting out for the day.
Then sounded another âQuarter alert!â The racers glanced at the screen and noticed 2 familiar faces, Swati and her friend Nafisa, the former of which had accidentally broken the gameâs steering wheel after Vanellope started going against her control. The 9 chosen racers went back to their places on the tracks as the players each opened the character select screen.
âWhereâs Vanellope?â asked Swati.
Rancis glanced at Swati, who had a confused, almost concerned look.
âThe roster changes every day,â explained Nafisa. âSheâll probably be playable tomorrow.â
âOh, alright,â said Swati, in a disappointed tone.
For the next 4 days, Nafisa and Swati came at least once to see what the new roster was. Every time, whether from his kart or in the bleachers, Rancis noticed Swatiâs reaction to Vanellopeâs absence, and even Nafisa started to become visibly confused.
On the 4th day, Swati asked, âIs there a way to see all of the racers, even the ones not chosen?â
Nafisa typed something into her phone, most likely looking up Swatiâs question. âYes, if you go into settings, then characters, then list all.â A few sounds from navigating the settings echoed through the game. âHuh, didnât there used to be 15 racers? Now there are 14.â
Rancisâs stomach tightened. âStick to the program,â he remembered, so he kept an unemotional look.
âVanellopeâs not here at all,â said Swati. âCheck on your machine.â
âNot there either,â said Nafisa.
âShould we tell Mr. Litwak?â asked Swati.
âWell, the game was just fixed. Maybe we can wait until thereâs a factory reset?â
The 2 girls stood up and left for another arcade console.
Rancis couldnât stand it any longer. He bolted out of the stands and into the racer village behind.
âWhyâs he leaving?â said Citrusella.
âWho cares?â said Taffyta dismissively.
âIâll go talk to him,â said Swizzle.
He walked into the village and knocked on Rancisâs door, hearing a faint, âCome in.â
Swizzle found Rancis on his couch, his face in his hands.
âIs this about Vanellope leaving?â asked Swizzle, with a concerned tone.
âYes,â said Rancis. âAre Swati and Nafisa the only other people who are bothered by this?â
âItâs alright, theyâll come back and play eventually,â said Swizzle. âSugar Rush got plenty of quarters before Vanellope became president.â
âYou mean when Turbo had us all brainwashed?â snapped Rancis.
Swizzle stood in silence, looking tongue-tied.
âThe players love her, and for good reason. Sheâs charming, funny, and has those deep, hazel eyesââ
âWhat do her eyes got to do with this?â said Swizzle.
Rancis felt his cheeks flush a bit. He didnât mean to mention that last part.
He continued, âWe treated her like dirt after Turbo took over, but she forgave us and treated us like equals. She never did anything wrong to us. I made fun of her glitchingâŚâ
âExactly, she forgave us,â said Swizzle. âAnd we were brainwashed. And that was 6 years ago!â
âWere we boring her? Not giving her the life she wanted?â
âWhatever it is, sheâs happy where she is now. Itâs time we move on.â
Rancis raised his head out of his hands and looked Swizzle in the eye. âEasy for you to say. You have Sticky as a girlfriend!â
Swizzleâs eyes narrowed. âDo you have a thing for Vanellope?â
Rancis looked away. âI need some time alone.â
Nougetsia stood outside Rancisâs house. Swizzle came out. âHe wonât talk to any of us racers,â he explained.
âMaybe we should ask Felix and Tamora about this after the arcade closes,â suggested Nougetsia. âThey have great advice for these kinds of things.â
***
The California sunset shone through the arcade doors, partially blocked by Mr. Litwak locking up before he left for his car. Calhoun was high-fiving Markowski (he had become more adapted to fighting bugs over the past 6 years), and Felix was sharing cake with Ralph and the Q*bert characters when Nougetsia and Swizzle told them what had happened.
âI should have fixed the elevator faster. Then we could have gotten down before Rancis finished talking with Ralph,â said Felix, while he and his wife walked through the crowded Game Central Station.
âLook, you didnât know,â said Tamora, dodging around Dig Dug. âWeâll smooth this out faster than a torrent beating against an ancient igneous.â
As they came up to Rancisâs home, Felix asked, âShould you talk to him first, or should I? Or maybe both of us?â
âI can try first.â She knocked. âCan I come in, lamb?â
No answer.
âI heard what happened,â she said. âYou must feel devastated. I know what itâs like to lose someone you love, and you ever want to talk about it, Iâd sure be happy to.â
Silence. Raising an eyebrow, Tamora put her hand on the knob and, to the surprise of both her and Felix, it turned easily. The unlocked door creaked open and the couple entered. Calhoun spotted a note on the graham cracker table:
âGoing to the Internet. Will be back soon.â
âOh my land!â exclaimed Felix.

âSugar Rush Left Behindâ Chapter 1: âA Letter from Rancisâ
Rancis Fluggerbutter sat on top of the main Fix-it Felix Junior building, wistfully looking out at the unplugged Sugar Rush arcade machine. The racer illustrations on the machineâs side, all with happy faces, contrasted sharply from its dark screen, which was usually alight with vivid color.
The silence was broken by footsteps behind him. He whipped around his head to see Felix walking toward him, who looked concerned. âWhat brings you up here, Rancis?â asked the repairman. âGetting some fresh air from all the bedlam downstairs?â
âItâs not that,â said Rancis in a faint voice.
Felix noticed where Rancis was looking. âYouâre concerned about your game, arenât you?â said Felix in an understanding tone. He sat down next to him. âI was horrified when this game was almost unplugged 6 years ago. Thereâs no shame in feeling troubled about it. For what itâs worth, Iâm darn tootinâ sure that Ralph and Vanellope will find another steering wheel.â
âIâm sure they will,â said Rancis. âThereâs actually something else though.â
âCare to share?â
âWell, thereâs this girl I know.â Rancis felt his face flush slightly.
Felix smiled with a knowing look. âAh, she gives you the honey glows!â
âYeah, but I donât know if she will like me back.â
âYouâll never know if you never ask,â said Felix. âYou think I would have ever ended up with Tammy if I wasnât honest with her?â
âI just donât think I can say it,â said Rancis. âI havenât been able to say it for 6 years.â
âThere are other ways you could tell her. Write her a song, give her flowers, write a letterââ
The heaviness in Rancisâs stomach suddenly became lighter than air. âThatâs a great idea! Thanks, Felix!â he said before eagerly running downstairs, leaving Felix with a stunned expression.
âHuh, maybe Iâm not such a bad father figure after all.â The mechanic smiled even wider.
***
âDone!â said Rancis in triumph. After agonizing over the exact words and crumpling up drafts for hours, he could at last put the final letter in an envelope. He had spilled all of his feelings for this special someone onto this paper, and felt ready to share it with her. Taking some water from his apartment sink, he sealed the letter.
Then, as if on cue, he heard a knock. He tripped a bit over all the crumpled up paper overflowing the nearby wastebasket on his way to the door, which he opened to see Candlehead.
âRalphâs back!â she said without hesitation. Rancisâs eyes widened and his heart began to beat rapidly.
âGreat! Iâll be right down!â he responded.
Candlehead nodded and went down the hall. Rancis raced to his desk, steering clear of the paper on the floor, and wrote the recipient name on the envelope. After briefly checking his hair in the mirror (perfect, as usual), he sprinted out his apartment to the nearest elevator.
âOut of order?â he thought in disbelief. Thatâs what the sign said, but it wasnât there an hour ago. Ugh, maybe Gloyd broke it for a prank again.
Rancis was not used to the stairs. Even though he was going down, it was still a lot of floors and he had to stop every few flights to catch his breath. Finally, he reached the lobby. Once out of the buildingâs front double doors, Rancis spotted a crowd of Sugar Rush racers next to the train station, huddled around the giant that was Wreck-it Ralph.
By the time Rancis got to the group, they were already starting to disperse. âTaffyta, what happened?â he asked.
âAsk yourself,â she said in her usual haughty tone and left without another word.
Rancis groaned in frustration. âDid they find another steering wheel?â he asked Adorabeezle as she walked by him.
âNo time, gotta go!â she said with a grin.
Rancis spotted Gloyd and without thinking, he glared at him and shouted, âDid you break the elevator again?â Gloyd just gave him a smug look and shoved past him. The last of the other racers disbanded, leaving Ralph standing in front of the little railroad tracks. Focused again, Rancis came up to the Goliath-sized man.
âSorry, the elevator was broken. Can you fill me in?â asked Rancis.
âSure can,â said Ralph in a lighthearted voice. âWe got another steering wheel and itâs being shipped here.â
Rancis gave a sigh of relief. âGlad to hear that.â But then he noticed that no one was in the Nicelander-sized train. âWhereâs Vanellope?â he asked.
âOh, while we were out in the Internet, we found this game called âSlaughter Raceâ,â explained Ralph.
Rancis cringed a bit. âGruesome sounding name.â
âYeah, I thought so too!â said Ralph, sounding validated. âBut anyway, she made some friends and she decided she wanted to stay there. Despite the gameâs name, the people can be quite nice once you get to know them, as long as youâre not one of the players.â
Rancis smiled at this. âWow, sounds cool!â he said. âSo, when is she planning on getting back?â
âWell, thatâs just it. They added her code to the game.â
Rancisâs heart sunk. âShe isnât coming back then?â
âAh, donât worry,â said Ralph in a matter-of-fact tone. âAs she put it, she was one of 16 racers, so no one would miss her.â
Rancis hung his head.
âYou feeling okay, Rancis?â said Ralph.
Without replying, Rancis started to trudge back to the apartment complex. The envelope slipped between his fingers onto the ground, and he didnât bother to pick it back up.
The light from the arcade illuminated the recipientâs name: âVanellope von Schweetzâ.

Snippet for a one-shot
Normally, whenever Vanellope got off the phone after she was done talking to her friends in the arcade, the atmosphere would be full of cheer and nostalgia after finishing up their playful banters and catching up with one another. But this? This was different... Because the moment she signed off, her face was pale and filled with horror

Vanilla Storm
"Dang! The storms really kicking today isnt it?â Thought Vanellope Von Schweetz, President of the famous arcade game Sugar Rush. Winter Break has just hit the real world, and Litwak just left the arcade for a few weeks to visit family. For the residents of the arcade, this was a long waited vacation. After coming back from Wreck it Ralphâs game for their weekly annual "Who can pull the better prank on Geneâ contest, she was hit with the biggest storm Sugar Rush has had since it was plugged in. âCitizens ask for a snow day I give âem a storm, god I suck.â Vanellope thought. âAt least we donât have to race for 2 weACK!â She was cut short by a sudden burst of wind. It pushed her body right in the snow. She got up and rubbed the snow off her face. âUgh, I need to find shelter fast, or Iâll be out here all night, but where?â She searched for any sign of life, thinking sheâll probably find Adorabeezle, she was obsessed with the cold and is usually seen hiking in the snow, but alas, even this storm was probably too much for her. Before Vanellope gave up she suddenly saw lights. Not just lights, a house! She sprinted towards her savior, not caring who the owner was. Luckily the door was unlocked, but being an example for all Presidents, she knocked first, waited 5 seconds, then burst through. âWhoa, that was close!â she yelled. âHello? Is anyone here?â She looked around the house trying to guess who owned it. âAll this furniture looks like itâs homemade. Plus there are a lot of mirrorsâ She suddenly started to blush realizing she just broke into the home of Rancis Fluggerbutter. âUh Rancis? You home?â Vanellope shouted, but no reply came. âWhere is he? Oh Namco, I hope heâs not out in the storm!â She was getting ready to go out and look for her friend, but she heard the front door open. Being a 9 year old, she instantly glitched behind the couch to avoid getting in trouble. She heard the wiping of shoes and someone cursing under their breath. âFreaking snowstorm almost killed me! Thank god I left my lights on.â It was Rancis, but Vanellope still hid, not wanting to freak out the peanut butter racer. Vanellope suddenly felt the urge to sneeze âAchooo! Bless me!â Looking up she met eyes with Rancis. He started to scream, making her scream. She glitched away from the couch in fear, and suddenly felt herself in the air. She had glitched herself onto the chandelier above Rancis. Freaking out she let go and landed on something soft. She opened her eyes and met the blue eyes of Rancis. Both of them blushing redder than Jubileenas hat, Vanellope scrambled off of Rancis. âUh hey butterfingers, quite the storm weâre having isnât itâ Vanellope said, trying to break the tension.  Rancis was still blushing, surprised at his cute guest. âWow, never thought this would happen.â he thought. âUm Vanellope, why are you in my house? Not that I mind!â Vanellope then told Rancis a slight exaggerated version of her time outside in the storm. âAnd the wind pushed me, like 500 feet away from the entrance, luckily near your house, so I had to come in, or I could have frozen to death!â Rancis chuckled at her tall tale, but was glad she was able to get out of the cold. âWell it looks like weâre gonna be hanging out for a while, got anything to do around here?â Vanellope said, breaking his train of thought. âWell I do have a television, we can watch the weather channel to see how bad itâs gonna getâ Rancis answered. âOh, TV! I love watching the one at Ralphs, wait how come you have one and I donâtâ Vanellope said, pouting. âWell, Ralph was actually giving an extra one he had away, and I asked him if I could have it. Iâm not sure why he had 2 TVs thouAh!â He was cut short by Vanellope jumping on the couch and scooting close to him. âI donât really care butterfingers, just turn it on!â Before he could even grab the remote, the power suddenly shut off. Scared by the sudden darkness, Vanellope grabbed on to Rancis. âItâs ok, itâs just a power outage, let me find a candle.â Rancis said soothingly. Not wanting to be left alone in the dark Vanellope held onto his hand, making him blush. After a few minutes of running into diffrent objects, they were able to find a candle. Tired from their little adventure, Vanellope began to nod off. She almost passed out on the couch, but Vanellope felt someone lift her and plop her onto a extremely soft bed. Realizing that she was still in her clothes, but in someone elseâs house, her crushes house, she wonder if he had anything soft to wear âUm, do you have any extra pajamas. I donât like sleeping in my day clothesâ Vanellope asked, shyly. âYeah, I do hold on.â Rancis left her on the bed for a few minutes and came back with a large shirt and pajama pants. âThis is all I got, sorry forâŚ.â Vanellope glitched out of her clothes and into the pajamas, leaving Rancis surprised at what she had just did. She was sitting on the bed, wearing the pajamas, and with her hair down, which was a rare sight. âShe looks pretty adorable tonight. Rancis thought. "Hey butterfingers! Where am I gonna sleep tonight?â Vanellope asked. âOh! I guess you can sleep in the bedâ he said shyly. âBut what about you? Itâs your house, Iâll just sleep on the couchâ she said, feeling that she needed to act like a proper guest. âNo, no itâs fine Iâll sleep on the couchâ Rancis said, blushing. Vanellope noticed Rancis didnât have a night light, and she was terrified of the dark. âActually Rancis, Iâm afraid of the dark, and I donât want to sleep alone, can youâŚ.. Can you sleep with me?â Vanellope asked, trying not to make the situation more embarrassing. âUh, yeah! I guess I can sleep with youâ Rancis said blushing harder before. After a few minutes of putting his own pajamas on, he climbed into bed with the president. Right when he got in, she grabbed onto him, and didnât let go the rest of the night. Not that he minded anyway.

TW//Pro shipping (Not sure if I would call it that-) + Rant
What the shit- đ

Well I despise Vanellope x Ralph, isnât Ralph like VERY old, like an adult, and Vanellope a literal kid? Thatâs justâŚvery disgusting-
I never really make rant posts here but this is something that quite literally bothers me, like, A LOT
I rather ship Vanellope with any one of the racers than a wrecker whoâs an adult-
Vanellope x any racer is completely fine, and I respect those who donât really ship her with anyone, as for me, I ship VanillaButter (Vanellope x Rancis), but Iâm ok with any ship, I wonât stop you ^^
Iâm probably gonna make a post about my page thatâll have rules and such cuz, why not? .3.
Ok thatâs it-
