one thing i learned today about playing an instrument is that you can't force emotion with technique
i was having a problem with creating a dreamy texture on the violin while doing portato (for chopin's nocturne) and i was having such a hard time at the lesson cuz i knew i had to lighten up my bow. i knew my fingers had to stay strong. i knew i had to be relaxed. but my bow still shook like crazy and my portato was harsh and bumpy. but then i decided to listen to the piece and play it no matter what technique i had. i wanted to play it for the emotions chopin made it, and all of a sudden that dreamy portato section was a lot better.
so technique hints at and describes emotion, but knowing what the feeling and sound of the piece is what truly creates the emotion.
i suspect that if you have the emotion, you have the technique as well

He kept stumbling through the piece, and eventually Salieri decided he’d guide him through it
It went much smoother afterwards, and it was honestly a very sweet scene to witness
(Because of this, he gets a free pass for taking more than his fair share of the cake and sweets that were being served)

My God, I won back admission to the state exam upon graduation from Music college (in Russia this is not a stage of school education, but a professional one. First a music school, then a music college, then an art institute/conservatory and, accordingly,A very deep immersion in art, both in aesthetic-theoretical terms and in practical performance)). for context: I started playing violin when I was five years old. Am I great? Nah. Am I able to tell when an actor is phoning it in on violin playing? Absolutely.
aldis hodge actually played that piece. They definitely found a recording to play over him because that's what you do for TV but I rewatched that scene when I was learning that solo and got tips from his fingering. he has vibrato technique. he doesn't just pick a violin up once in a while, he's legitimately a skilled violinist who also does everything else he does
