Per Aspera: Chapter 2

In a world where someone can claim to be an angel, only to unleash unspeakable horrors onto the people, a world where the broadcast of the Pope's execution can be in the same place where one can watch a cooking tutorial, Thomas Lawrence had to figure out a way to hold onto what little faith he had left. Oh, and he will be the person in charge for the most important election in the religious world. What Joy.
Conclave (2024) in the universe of Warrior Nun: Chapter 2 is up!
Lawrence had one surprisingly pleasant conversation and the other one, predictably, not so much. As he sits in front of his homily, he contemplates Virgil, Benítez, and Limbo.
#conclave#conclave 2024#warrior nun#ingrid's writing#I spent the whole day thinking of a good cover but with my non-existent drawing skill and negative photoshop skills#oh well#this way people who watched the movie knows where we are#and people who don't gets the visual#but also no you don't actually know where this is going

Introduction and Current WIPs
Hiya! My name is Echo (@tousled-birdmad-girl is my main for those who care about such things) and I'm a writer. I've been writing in some form or another since I was about ten years old, but only recently plucked up the gumption and drive to attempt anything original, much less put it out for the world to see. Time will tell how this goes...
I love horror, tho I wouldn't consider myself a "genre" author, as I think horror, surrealism, fantasy and magic can be found everywhere if you know where to look, and the presence of fantasy elements does not necessarily mean you're writing a "fantasy" book. So, we'll call what I do "fiction" and leave it at that for now :D
Inspiration-wise, I draw from the works of Stephen King, everything Mike Flanagan ever put to Netflix and beyond, Paul Shapera and his ever-growing Shaperaverse, Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Palahniuk, and the Cthulhu Mythos as a whole (with a particular liking for taking the worlds, entities and themes first created by Lovecraft and using them to create something that'd make him spin in his grave.)
Below the cut: a list of my current WIPs and some general housekeeping information. If you see something that sparks your interest, please come sit by my hearth and pour yourself a drink <3
Original Works:
The Lost Souls' Revival: After a series of personal crises, struggling creative Amari Walker stumbles across a flyer advertising a strange carnival, offering "a total restoration of spirit" for the cryptic asking price of "3Y". With nothing left to lose, she attends, quickly becoming enthralled by the Revival and its colourful cast of performers, in particular its eccentric, nameless ringmaster. When her night of fun and escapism is over, she finds herself wanting more, and embarks on a one-woman quest to follow the ever-moving carnival wherever it goes, a quest that will drive her to the edge of sanity, and possibly beyond the reach of reality itself. (vibes: steampunk, dark carnival, mythology/folklore mishmash, fantasy horror, the Fair Folk, whatever the goblins were selling in Rosetti's Goblin Market)
Better To Reign In Hell: It's 1897. The world is changing too fast. Pastor Nathaniel Lawrence is dying, for all that he's trying to hide it. His daughter, Susannah, too old for rebellion and too young for spinsterhood, is content to follow in her mother's footsteps as the town's herbalist, but a bombshell marriage proposal seems set to destroy those plans. A chance encounter with a badly wounded man may offer her the escape she seeks, but at a price: Merritt Caine is not all he appears to be, and his dark past has an unbreakable grip. (vibes: southern gothic HEAVY on the gothic, small town horror, witchcraft (fictitious and real), Satanism (fictitious and real), corruption but in a good way, religious horror, the cycle of abuse, eventual murder (of the good kind) )
The Order of The Pallid Mask: In the corpse of a city at the centre of a dying world, a benevolent cult is working to restore their world to its fabled former glory by appealing to its retreated god, The King in Yellow. Sariann, the cult's High Priestess, is willing to sacrifice whatever she must to ensure a brighter future for the city's refugees; her body, her soul, her mind. Virgil, a lower-ranking member of the Order, her confidant, attendant and trusted friend, is willing to defy the Order and his faith to keep her alive. And the Yellow King has plans and desires of his own... (vibes: Cosmic horror, Lovecraftian but make it romantic, the beauty of the unknown, rituals, creating a religion from the ashes of an old world, post-apocalypse, ancient civilization (not of Earth), Eldritch love triangle) ***
Fan Works/Other:
As far as fanfics go, I don't have any long-form WIPs on the stove, more like a series of short (well, short-ish) form drabbles, headcanons and other assorted bits, which I might as well post here when I have them as proof that I do have a creative output that extends beyond Spotify playlists and Pinterest boards.
Fandoms include:
Fallout (mainly New Vegas and the Prime series so far, but encompassing this universe as a whole)
Red Dead Redemption (particularly the second game as I haven't played the first one yet, £35 for a port of a PS2 game my *ass*)
the Flanaverse (Hill House, Bly Manor, TFOTHOU, Midnight Mass... basically everything bar The Midnight Club, which I have not watched)
the Cthulhu Mythos (if you can call that a fandom :D I was working on a queer retelling of Dreams in the Witch-House at one point, if I can *find* the notes I wrote I might bring that one out of retirement...)
plus one or two fandoms the content crucibles of which I would not subject myself to if you held me at gunpoint (iykyk)
I've also amassed a small collection of OCs from various TTRPGs I've been part of, a couple of whom still haunt my mind and may or may not be written about from time to time... (no DnD tho, I think it's safe to say we've reached saturation point with DnD-centric/derivative works) ;)
***
General housekeeping + other info: I am an adult and this is an adult writing blog by default. I will be writing smut/other sexual content and dealing with mature and dark themes throughout these listed works (and anything else I may write to post here.) I will tag for "main" triggers and give general content warnings where applicable, but I cannot guarantee to cover every single trigger a person may have, therefore, you read and interact here at your own risk. If requested, I will add more trigger warnings, but again, I can't fully guarantee to get everything.
I kindly ask that you refrain from reposting anything from this blog: excerpts, character profiles, moodboards (if I make them) etc. I also ask that you do not take anything for your personal use under any circumstances.
My inbox is open, so send me an ask if you have any questions or simply want to chat! But for now, I've rambled for quite long enough, so I'm gonna wrap this post here. See you! <3

Chapter eight of Lonely Remnants, “Hey, would it be so bad if I stayed? I'm just a ghost out of his grave”, is here! :)
Here are the extras for this chapter and the previous chapter!
Chapter Seven:
- The lyrics for this chapter’s title are from “My Body’s Made of Crushed Little Stars” by Mitski! It’s meant to be from the Shoggoth’s perspective, but it also really sounds like something Lawrence would’ve sang when he was part of a band, haha.
- “The Shoggoth sat like a kid outside the principal’s office, shoulders hunched and head hung low, waiting for a harsh punishment.” - The Shoggoth did genuinely expect them to hit it.
- “The Shoggoth let out a strange low whine, looking towards Adam and Barbara with pleading eyes.” - “It then looked to Lydia, as if for approval.” - “The Shoggoth lifted his head, staring up at her with big, dark, hopeful eyes.” - THE SHOGGOTH CARES SOOO MUCH ABOUT WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT IT GUYS. AHHH.
- “Lydia forced down the bitter taste of sarcastic irony building in her as she thought of all of the horror flicks and dramatic paintings depicting demons as fearsome monsters without remorse or pity.” - the last part is a reference to a line from “Aliens”! Also, Lydia is specifically thinking about the Deadites from “Evil Dead” and the one painting of Dante and Virgil.
- “I don’t… I can’t find it in me to forgive you yet.” - I DID NOT MEAN FOR MY FICS TO LINE UP LIKE THIS. WHOOPS!
- “… it’s no problem, Bug.” - this is the first time Lydia called the Shoggoth by it’s preferred name!
- I wonder if that dream is thematically relevant? ;)
Chapter Eight:
- The lyrics for this chapter’s title are from “Ghosting” by Mother Mother! Very literal, haha.
- Thank you to @ten-chocolate-sundaes for Adam’s nerdy autism rants about Klingon culture and such from Star Trek, I have no clue about most of Adam’s interests haha <3
- “The Shoggoth briefly bit his lip as it thought, it’s tail softly thumping against it’s seat. “… I guess. Sure.” Lydia raised an eyebrow. “‘Sure’?” “I, uh… spent a lotta time alone in the woods. But I’m sure it’ll be fun with you guys!” ” - The Shoggoth spent a grueling year wandering the woods up north. It sucked ass.
- “Mrs. D used ‘em only once.” - this is what Lawrence used to call Emily. The Shoggoth doesn’t even know her last name.
- “The demon suddenly seemed rather invested in staring at his arm, tugging the sleeve of it’s cotton sweater. (Funny, she could’ve sworn it was Adam’s.)” - It is Adam’s! :)
- “ “That’s.. from Lawrence’s favorite movie.” A bittersweet smile tugged at Adam’s lips. “‘Rule #32: Enjoy the little things’.” The Shoggoth’s head whipped up in his direction. “Oh! From… the zombie movie?” ” - This tattoo is referencing “Zombieland”. It is a sweet little reminder Lawrence wanted to give himself.
- “Lydia hadn’t seen any being look so starstruck before. The Shoggoth sat, eyes wide and full of wonder, mouth hung agape with the hint of a smile. It’s tail kept thumping against the seat as it wagged.” - Average reaction to listening to Chappell Roan for the first time.
- “She’s a damn visionary!” - Hm! What oddly familiar phrasing.
- “Who knew a demon would be such big fans of Chappell Roan?” - thank you again @ten-chocolate-sundaes for helping me figure out Barbara’s music taste!
- “Lydia let out a little laugh as she turned her attention back to the minute-mystery she and Adam were solving together.” - These are phenomenal to do on road trips. Murdles are too. Adam loves his Murdles.
- “… I like… ‘they’. And ‘it’, still.” - The Shoggoth’s pronouns are now it and they! They were just it/its until this point. When I use ‘his’ while referring to a body part for the Shoggoth, it’s because the body part doesn’t belong to them.

more post session brainworms of the cowboy, things have not in fact gotten better and he's in fact more tired then he's ever been every single week <3 now with added trauma triggering!
Virgil Lawrence | He/Him | 212 Years Old | Ex-Sabbat Brujah Vampire
Session/Image Context below:
finally got his coterie mate's crazy tremere ex dead and gone, and then had to listen to a baby sabbat brujah's entire life and family collapse around her. also he got a new knife for free (by being stabbed)!
PoV you're the Boston Prince (who totally deserved this) and have been in office 100 years after your predecessor was also killed by being thrown off a building by the same cowboy.
PoV you're a coterie member who pissed off the already EXTREMELY on edge and furious brujah by rebuking his attempts to suicide bait you and he just drew his 10+ pool revolver.
damn hard to stay keeping it together when you see and hear the ghosts of your kindred loved ones all around you all the time and in the words spoken by those around you, without anyone meaning to do it
#my art#virgil lawrence#BRUJAHS CANT BE HAPPY IN OUR CHRONICLES#the boston prince showed him photos of his old vampire gang's skinned faces mounted in a museum somewhere in boston#and the photos had the prince giving HIS SIRE AND LOVER'S FACE bunny ears#so honestly kinda justified with throwing him out a window of a high rise#but then also he thought he was finally getting let go by the tzimisce and. turns out he's now part of the personal coterie of a fae lord#which means he's just in ANOTHER type of captivity now and won't be allowed to leave because he's 'property' of the fae now#and everyone is talking about how they're all bonded together now and a 'family' and#ALL OF HIS TRAUMA TRIGGERS ARE BEING HIT AT ONCE RIGHT NOW on top of general overstimulation and too many people and being in a city and#shoutout to my STs promising “virgil will have fun soon” and its been like 3 sessions since that promise and he still isnt having fun DFKHH#artists on tumblr#digital art#digital drawing#original character#vtm art#vtm oc#vtm brujah#vtm sabbat#vampire oc#vampire: the masquerade#vampire#cowboy oc#cowboy art#cowboy#tw: blood

Directory: 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞.
Name: Virgil Lawrence
Alias: Boothill
Age: “38”
Height: 6’9” (205 cm)
Species: Sineater
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐭, 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.
He’s no stranger to unfair circumstances, to tragedy. He’d already been separated from those he cared for with no knowledge of their whereabouts or condition. So when he finds himself in yet another situation that is terribly unfair, he is unfazed. Virgil looks death and danger in the eye with a laugh as he always does. He’s always been confident in his ability to make it out of any situation alive. How fortunate, then, that such confidence is not unfounded.
He lives, survives, but is forever changed. With horns resembling a ram and the tail of a lizard, he resembles the sort of devil he’d once been cautioned against. Virgil has become a Sineater, though he is yet to understand the gravitas of such a transformation. Even so, he feels that it’s only appropriate to discard all he had once been and take on the name Boothill. It’s better if no one knows who he had been before.
As for the future, he hopes he’ll be reunited with those he loves soon. Even if he’s uncertain if they’re still alive. Even if some part of him wonders if he’d be recognizable at all, given how much he has changed.
𝐀𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞.
#『 verse info. 』 — the path to hell is paved with good intentions‚ there exists more than one road to righteousness.#『 v: sineater. 』 — the devil of a foreign star‚ those he searches for near and far‚ that cruel forgery named hope.#[[ i'll eventually come up with an actual name for this verse but! even if no one else understands it's here! ]]

Happy March of the OCs Part 2!
okay, so I don't really write with OCs very often, but I do like thinking about side characters and giving them random backstories and families and things :) So here's some more sims posting, this time with all the characters I've pulled out to pad up the world!
Sara Cavanaugh
Sara is Kat Cavanaugh's sister, and they love each other a lot but cannot stand to be together for longer than approximately four hours. Kat thinks Sara is materialistic and vain, Sara thinks Kat is pig-headed and selfish. They're both right and they're both wrong, as often is the case when it comes to people. Sara does appreciate material things and takes pride in her appearance, and she can be quick to judge based on appearances, but she also works hard for very little thanks and cares very deeply about her community.
Eleanor Rigby
Eleanor is about eight years old, and she's Captain Wayne Rigby's daughter. I picture him as a single dad, and someone he worries about a lot and that a lot of his grouch with Kayo was misdirected anxiety about having to constantly leave Eleanor behind while he was working overtime. Eleanor's super resilient though, and mostly saw bouncing around her friends' homes as a bit of an adventure. She love love loves the outdoors and is a huge 'Into the Unknown' fan. Her biggest dream at the moment is to become a vet at a zoo.
The list continues under the cut ><
Aidan Hawkins and Theo Hawkins-McCready
I imagine by the time Virgil meets Cass, she's a single mum with two very rambunctious sons, but for my sims save, I'm playing a little further back in the story haha, so meet her fiance, Aidan, and eldest son, Theo. Aidan is a very romantic and outgoing person but it's paired with intense insecurities and poor communication that creates a very tumultuous relationship for Cass. They both love each other, and Cass gets swept up in his grand gestures, but they struggle a lot with co-dependency and trust issues. Cass sacrifices a lot for Aidan at the expense of her career and eventually they split. Theo right now is just super cute lol <3 He's about three or four when Cass meets Virgil, and his younger brother Jordan (not pictured) is two.
Lesley Hoffman, Franklin Hoffman-Casey and Dante Hoffman-Casey
This is Colonel Casey's family :D Lesley is her wife and they have two children, Franklin and Dante. They're good friends with the Tracys through Val of course, and although they grew apart a bit after Jeff disappeared, they're still considered family friends. Lesley and Val met through a mutual friend and connected over their shared love of music and breakfast foods. Franklin is about Kayo's age, just a little younger than John, and Dante is between Alan and Gordon. Lesley "and the kids" get a brief mention in this story here :)
The Patterson Family (aka Space Controller Conrad's Family)
Conrad's family are ultra high-achievers and high-expectations and they expect big things from Conrad - he's the youngest and as he says in the episode Long Haul, his siblings are heroes in his eyes (a fire-fighter, a police officer, and a paramedic) and he feels the pressure. I kinda roll with the idea that he's several years younger than his siblings, similar to Alan being several years younger than his brothers, and so here they are. Anyway, this is them in the sims world! From top left to bottom right: Daphne and Ed, then Lawrence, the fire-fighter, Raelynn, the police officer, and Quentin, the paramedic. I have more thoughts, but they're mostly about Conrad so I'll move on for now ;D
Joanne and Walter Hackett
Joanne and Walter are Madeline Lemaire's parents :) I put the Lemaire's in a big giant house, and then made myself sad by headcanoning that they wanted kids and couldn't have them, and so I moved in her parents to make things seem a little less lonely. They're much more sensible than their son-in-law, but mostly see him as harmlessly eccentric. Walter is really into fishing and constantly taking Lemaire out on the boat for a boys day (which he hates lol), and Joanne is very into throwing dinner parties and trying out new cocktail recipes for her guests.
David Reeves
David is Tycho's twin brother purely because I think I'm funny xD He's a bit geeky and works as a primary school teacher, coaching a kids' football team and things. Because Tycho's busy jetting off around the world, David keeps a guest room for him and takes in his mail and things (I know paper mail probs won't exist but SHH). Their parents died when David and Tycho were in their twenties still, so they make sure they do Christmas and birthdays and things together and catch up as often as possible.
Gregory Moffat
This is Gregory, who is Moffie's teenage son (and also my son) and I am extremely fond of him <33 He's pretty quiet really, and plays bass guitar in a band with his friends. Moffie was a little exasperated, because he learnt the cello first and she had visions of seeing him play in an orchestra and things, but he got into an argument at the first practice and ultimately ditched it. He also like art and architecture and is very loyal to his friends.
The Taylor Family
I love the headcanon that Lucille and Lee are siblings, and I also love that she came from a large family as well (it makes sense in my head) and also I stole @avengedbiologist's idea that all the siblings have L names because I love it. I aged up the family to show you what they look like, but I haven't fixed them up fully so it's just a general idea :D Anyway, here we have Connor and Payton Taylor, and then Leonard, Laura and Lily. Leonard is the oldest, then Laura, then it's Lucille and Lee (twins for maximum ow), then Lily is the baby of the family.
I have actually written them into a story (veeeeeery loosely) here :)
#march of the ocs#and now you know ><#I'll add more sooner or later haha I just like filling up the world
