Hopefully I am using the right term, do you think that minor houses, or vassals of the vassals like House Forester to the Glovers would have a shot at marrying the heirs of their overlords? We know the Starks typically marry into their vassal Houses but would the other Houses do the same or are they stuck marrying other minor noble houses like a vassal of the Umbers would marry into a vassal of the Karstarks?
I think I understand what you’re saying. (You can see my speculation on vassal of vassal Houses here.)
Anyway, while we have virtually* no examples of such, I would be frankly shocked if no heir to a lordly, but not paramount lordly, House ever married from among his (presumably his) family’s own vassals. Number one, the same geopolitical considerations that would motivate a paramount family to betroth its heir to a scion of one of its vassal families would presumably still exist, albeit in a smaller-scale or more localized form - and consequently, if many if not most marriages in paramount lordly families tend to include spouses from their vassals, I would expect some similar percentage of marriages in lordly vassal families to feature partners from their vassals. These lordly vassal families would, I think, be just as likely to eye territorial expansion, or wrestle with truculent bannermen, or reward loyal service, as their lieges, and so just as likely to use their heirs as valuable nuptial pawns with their bannermen.
Number two, we have a small, but I think nevertheless meaningful, number of examples of the reverse - namely, a woman from a family of such lordly rank marrying a man of one of her family’s sworn Houses. Rohanne Webber’s cousin Wendell married a sister of the Lord Rowan ruling at the time of “The Sworn Sword” (a dynastic marital arrangement I think was planned, but never executed, for Rohanne’s son Tion as a would-be Lord Webber); Cersei’s sometime childhood companion Jeyne Farman married one of her brother’s bannermen, Gareth Clifton; Harry Hardyng’s Waynwood mother married a Hardyng knight sworn to her father’s family. If the men of these vassal families were considered equal to their liege lords’ daughters for the purposes of marriage, and appropriate suitors besides, I cannot see why the daughters of these families would not be equally worthy of marrying the sons of their liege lords.
*While we don’t have what I would consider a specific example of this sort of marriage, it is worth noting that Wylis Manderly, heir to White Harbor, married Leona Woolfield, whose family I speculated may be sworn to the Manderlys. Likewise, while Lord Frey was obviously the lord of rather than the heir to House Frey at the time of his most recent marriage (and had plenty of extant heirs, and past wives, besides), his bride, Joyeuse, was from the Freys’ vassal House Erenford. (Walder’s bastard son Ser Walder Rivers also married a Frey vassal subject, from House Carlton, but given his extramarital birth and lack of legitimization obviously doesn’t provide an answer to this question either.)

Milgram Kinks & Headcanons (females)
mod's note: my interpretation / headcanons for the milgram girls; what they're like in bed and what I think they're kinks are
content: various kinks + smut. gn!reader. No Muu + Amane for obvious reasons. mdni
Yuno Kashiki
She's definitely a wild card when it comes to sex. Whatever her partner is open to, she has no qualms about doing just abt anything. And, depending on who you are to her, she'll suggest her own perferences. You never really know what mood she's into, but she someone happens to always know yours
Her 'default' is being on the bottom, but if you wanted, she can top. Even if she finds it 'kinda bothersome', she'll still go down on/overstimulate you as many times you want. A bit playful if she's feeling up for it + you two are in a genuine relationship. She'll feel a bit more comfortable being vulnerable with you, therefore a little bit of goofiness shines. She won't push any boundaries + limits, but she enjoys hearing you whimper for her and edging you. Not that she's sadistic, just loves teasing you
A bit of a pillow princess when she's on the bottom (which is most of the time, if you don't say anything). It's not.....hard to make cum, but it's not easy either. She lasts a pretty long time, and you're gonna have to step it up if you want to feel her squirt. Really, just do anything that might shock her (though, chances are, it won't. She's been with too many guys that she knows nearly every kink in the book). Tie her up, use a vibrator, put a collar on her, etc. Though it may cost you an extra 5000 yen! <3
Mahiru Shiina
Mahiru is the type of lady that dreams of her nuptial night with her beloved, screaming their name as she arches her back above the white bedsheets. She has a very romantic idea....well, everything. And sex is no exception. And when she's in the mood, she's ready to set the bedroom with soft, serenading music, rose petals scattered on the bed, and lit candles on the nightstands
Think the lady, who's whole world revolves around romance and a fairy-tale happy ending, wouldn't know abt different kinks to please her beloved? Think again! Mahiru is very eager to please you, especially during your first time. Please tell her what turns on on, ig she did a good job, how she can improve, etc. Like Yuno, she's willing to try virtually anything for you!
As for her own personal preferences, she has a very traditional view of intimacy. Nothing crazy, saved for praising and body worship. She wants foreplay to be akin to you revering every inch of her body, kissing her from head to toe. I'll be honest, it's not hard at all to make her cum. You're basically her biggest motivation. Just please....make her feel like a princess. When she says she's into body worship, she dreams of Haruka levels of worship. Oh! And breeding kink too! She really wants to start a family with you
Kotoko Yuzuriha
Kotoko doesn't have a strong sex drive. She can honestly go long periods without it, due to her....personal work and just a low libido. It's rare to see her wanting a stress reliever, and if you try to turn her on, well.....let's just say....good luck
You're better off just saying you want sex with her. She'll give you a look. A weird look that last about a good ten seconds. Before shrugging, either saying sure or no. She appreciates the honesty, and if she doesn't see a reason to refuse, why would she? So....congrats?
She's a dom most of, if not, all the time. Kotoko doesn't feel comfortable being so vulnerable to be on the bottom, even if you ask. She sees sex as really just helping you relieve yourself. She doesn't care too much abt herself, but it's honestly kinda sweet when you think abt it. She'll eat you out, finger you, use a vibrator, etc. really, anything you want. And, once you two start becoming more sexually active, you don't even need to tell her what to do anymore. She's a quick learner and you're an easy read to her. She enjoys being the one to please you
The kinkiest thing about her is brat taming. You're in for a real treat if you manage to push her buttons and tease her in just the right way. If she's fed up enough....oh boy....I hope you like getting pegged and spanked afterwards. Heavy degradation too, especially if she was feeling really frustrated with you. Breath play too, mayhaps?
You won't be able to walk for days, but at least Kotoko asks if you need anything afterwards. She's not the best at aftercare, but not the worst either. At the end, she wants to make sure her partner feels safe

I've been thinking about colonialism in the Aeneid.
It’s fascinating the way Turnus is depicted as someone standing in Aeneas’ way, blocking his marriage to Lavinia and by extension the founding of the Roman empire. He’s the leader of a Rutulian tribe. The word feels pretty deliberate here. Very politically charged.
Which got me thinking about the colonisation of the Native Americans, and how strikingly similar it is to what the Trojans do to the Rutulians. The NAs were displaced so that the settlers could lay the foundations of a country that will one day become a global superpower. Just like the Trojans laid the groundwork for Rome to become a political juggernaut.
And then it occurred to me that Pocahontas and Lavinia play virtually the same role in their respective situations. We don’t have a first-person account of Pocahontas’ thoughts and feelings - she’s been talked over by imperalist voices, the same way we don’t know what Lavinia’s like as a character, since she doesn’t have any speaking lines in the Aeneid. Also, both women are used as silent bridges between imperialism and indigeneity. Pocahontas’ love affair with John Rolfe mirrors Lavinia’s marriage to Aeneas. They’re used as symbols of connection and add a touch of romance to justify colonialism. Myth became history - it’s almost like the Aeneid is a blueprint for imperialist ideologies!
What do you think? :)
Beyond a visit to Jamestown about a decade ago, guided by a historian friend, I really don't know anything about the American conquest, so I am very much not qualified to talk about that and any comparisons that could be drawn between that and the Aeneid, though I am struck by the fact that the American conquest very much did happen historically and Aeneas arriving in Italy and fighting the native Italians... almost certainly did not! I do not know how much the story of Pocahontas has been romaticised by later colonialists as a justification and how much is factually true. So I am very much not qualified to comment on the mythologisation of the American conquest.
I do have thoughts on the Aeneid however!
The "Aeneas as coloniser" interpretation is attractive in some ways and I do discuss it with my students - "Aeneas starts the poem as a refugee and ends a coloniser" but with several important caveats. Like all interpretations of a historical texts through the medium of modern theory, care needs to be taken lest a desire to impose modern values and interpretations on the texts obscures what the texts themselves are saying. (I've just marked a set of essays on women in the Iliad filled with such astonishing incorrect interpretations that I am still feeling extremely salty about this several weeks on.)
Virgil was not trying to write about colonisation because he did not know what that was. If he was trying to do anything along those lines, he was writing about the effects of war and how it can be the case that experiences of war and loss can lead even the best and most rational people to end up committing atrocities. One of the most heart-breaking moments for me in the Aeneid comes in Book 12 when Aeneas attacks and burns Latium in a way that invokes the destruction of Troy in Book 2. How could a man who escaped a burning city, saw his king slaughtered, become homeless and stateless inflict such similar suffering on another people? And yet we see continuously through history that such things happen. If we look at Homeric comparisons, since the second half of the Aeneid parallels the Iliad and therefore Aeneas and Turnus must parallel Achilles and Hector, then Aeneas was always going to end up as Achilles. How would he feel, becoming the bloodthirsty warrior of his city's great enemy? Not that great, I'd imagine. Aeneas' story is a tragedy.
But is he a coloniser? Well, I would say, "not really." That's a very loaded term and I think obscures what actually happens at the end of the Aeneid.
For a start, Aeneas has no interest in fighting the Italians. He says so multiple times. In Book 12 he continuously tries to keep from all-out war. The whole of Book 7 is an exercise in examining how war breaks out between two peaceful people who don't want to fight each other. It's an absolute masterclass and a chilling reminder of the arbitrary and manipulative ways in which conflicts can break out out. The marriage with Lavinia could have and should have happened peacefully - if Juno had not interfered. I also resist the idea that it is "romanticising" a political marriage because the ancient world at this point had no concept of what we understand as "romance". They understood sex and passion (and passion is always destructive in Virgil), they understood marriage (a political union in order to bring forth legitimate children to continue a lineage) and they understood close ties and bonds of love between men. But romantic love that is something more than sex between men and women and linking that to marriage? I am sure real human beings who were not upper class experienced these emotions but the only literary genre that explored that at this time was New Comedy which was a very low genre. I think it wouldn't even have occurred to Virgil to give Aeneas and Lavinia a love story, even if they did come to feel love for each other after their political marriage. (It's only in post-Christian literature like the Greek novel that men and women are allowed to have romantic love for each other as a motivation for their characters.) The marriage with Lavinia, however, is there to legitimise Aeneas' rule and join the Trojans to the Italians.
However, I think we need to examine the vital scene between Jupiter and Juno in Book 12.
Firstly, we need to acknowledge that Virgil has two pretty big problems when he is writing his epic about "Aeneas the Trojan is the ancestor of the Romans". Firstly, contemporary Romans are very definitely not Trojans. They are Italians. Secondly, I doubt they'd want to be Trojan. Romans were xenophobic towards non-Romans and they stereotyped people from the East as oily, effeminate, caring too much about their appearance, overly clever and sly and likely to trick you. As you can tell, the root of a lot of Oriental stereotypes which sadly persist to the day. This comes across in the Aeneid itself both in the characterisation of the Greek Sinon in Book 2 but also in the way that non-Trojan characters freqently talk mistrustfully about Aeneas and the Trojans as Phrygians (Phrygia is the area of Turkey where Troy was). So Virgil's Roman audience isn't going to be very happy if the conclusion to the Aeneid is "We are all descended from an Eastern foreigner who came over and defeated all the natives and imposed himself on them".
So we come to the speeches in Book 12 in which Juno is forced to capitulate to destiny and let Turnus die but at the same time forces Jupiter to massively compromise on what this destiny looks like for Aeneas.
This is what Juno requests:
'Yet I beg this of you, for Latium’s sake, for the majesty of your own kin: since it is not prohibited by any law of fate: when they soon make peace with happy nuptials (so be it) when they join together soon in laws and treaties, don’t order the native Latins to change their ancient name, to become Trojans or be called Teucrians, or change their language, or alter their clothing. Let Latium still exist, let there be Alban kings through the ages, let there be Roman offspring strong in Italian virtue: Troy has fallen, let her stay fallen, along with her name.’
In other words, this is truly the end of Troy. The descendants of Aeneas and his people will have Italian characteristics and they will not be called Trojans, they will not speak whatever language the Trojans speak, they will not change what they wear. (People from Turkey notoriously wore trousers which was seen as very weird to the Romans.) They will keep everything that made them Italian. It is the Trojans who must adapt to them.
Jupiter in his response actually goes even further:
'I grant what you wish, and I relent, willingly defeated. Ausonia’s sons will keep their father’s speech and manners, as their name is, so it will be: the Trojans shall sink, merged into the mass, only. I will add sacred laws and rites, and make them all Latins of one tongue.'
The only thing, Jupiter says, the Trojans are contributing here is their bloodline. Everything else culturally speaking is Italian. Again, from Aeneas' perspective, the Aeneid is a tragedy. He thought he was going to re-establish his destroyed city somewhere new and be able to continue living as a Trojan. In reality, he has to totally lose his identity and be subsumed into the culture of the place he arrives at - and he will only survive three years to enjoy the peace.
To me, this doesn't look like colonisation as we understand it in a modern sense.

IWTV INSP - MerMay Pt23: Armand
The creature moved towards him. He had a mass of black tentacles that transitioned from the waist into smooth brown skin, the ombre of it swirling across the creature’s skin.... His eyes, like orange-tinged amber, looked at him with bright interest.... Dark curls haloed his face, moving freely in the water, as he drew nearer.... “I mean you no ill will, little bride,” the creature said with a smile.... “My apologies if this is your territory,” Louis said politely and firmly.... “I meant no disrespect by my intrusion. I will take my leave if I may....” The creature smiled. His face lighting up with an amused glee, the grin showing off a mouthful of sharp fangs, and Louis steadied himself against the tremor of fear that went through him. “Such manners,” the creature said, looking at him with keen interest, “are you Made? Are you from the surface? Have I caught myself a little yearling siren?.... Tell me of the surface....”  “It’s… dry,” Louis said blandly. The creature laughed. It was a sharp and cruel sound despite the musical note to it. “Oh, I can see why you were Made,” the creature said, “Tell me, delightful thing, are you marrying your Maker?” “Yes,” Louis said.... “I am.” “....My name is Armand, so you may stop thinking of me as creature,” the creature--Armand--said warmly with amusement, “and what might I call you?” “Nothing. I’m nobody,” Louis said defiantly, “No one....” “I am many centuries old,” Armand said.... “Ask me any question your heart desires and I will endeavour to answer. Consider it a gift for you to celebrate your nuptials.....”

MY THOUGHTS & CC CREDITS
MY THOUGHTS
My only advice for Louis about Armand:
Tumblr media
CC CREDITS
- Mermaidia lot/world
- Armand's hair IDER, black hands by @venusprincess-ts3, claws at TSR, octopus tail by @niobecremisi
- Protip: When toggling the Black Lights on lots, your sims' skin with look darn near pitch black, and their clothes will glow white. To undo this, just activate the Vampire Virtual Override with Nraas' Debug Enabler (yes, even if your sim isn't a vampire). It will remove the glowing clothes effect and give your sims a matte, almost greenish color (which intensifies if you have EA's full moon lighting on from the SN EP, like I do). Something's better than nothing.

THE LOST PRINCESS
Occupation: The lady of the court of Asteria
Name: Zhao Yan
Age: 24
Pronouns: she/her
Power: Necromancy, decay magic - currently dormant
IT BEGINS —
You don’t remember much of your early childhood - nothing besides your brother and the small family you’ve been raised in. But, you do remember the strange sort of mist, surrounding the house you’ve lived in ; the kind of mist that seems dangerous, hiding sharp teeth and malicious glares. For reasons unknown, you’ve always felt uneasy about it - always felt there’s more to it than just a natural occurrence. Your brother seemed immune to the fear which terrorised you, but being older by a few years, it was only natural that such things would virtually have no effect on him - in fact, he seemed rather unphazed by its presence ; and it was his calmness which soothed your own discomfort about it. As you grew, you started to pay less attention to the mist and more to the world around you - the trees, the people ; animals. You’ve always been a bubbly child, talkative and prone to making friends, and your sweet, kind hearted nature served as a magnet to the people in your vicinity. Still, despite having many acquaintances, you didn’t have as many close friends as you would’ve liked - perhaps only one or two ; and even around them you felt something… odd simmering beneath the surface. You can’t say they made you uncomfortable, but there was an air of insincerity about them that you didn’t know the source of - and it was the fear of the unknown which made you reluctant to truly share secrets with anyone outside of your little family - namely, your brother.
You remember the day your brother’s power surged - and you remember waiting for the majority of your childhood to taste your own - and yet, your veins remained barren of it. At first you admitted to everyone how it bothered you, complete dead silence in your bones and your soul, the lack of power which makes everyone in the kingdom special and unique. You feel like your uniqueness comes from nothingness - and you sense how most of the people around you look at you with either pity or thinly veiled ridicule in their eyes. You keep brushing it off, waving your hand dismissively and saying it no longer bothers you - that being fully, tragically and disappointingly normal is something you’re content with. Not even your brother knows the true extent of your displeasure with it - you keep hoping your power will one day awaken, so why bother him - or anyone else - with your woes and wailings? Instead of treating it like a tragedy, you’ve decided to treat it as a minor setback in your life - so what you’re normal? There are many others who had their power manifest late in their lives - and they’ve lived a happy, fulfilled life nevertheless. Deciding that the village you grew up in was restrictive to your general advancement, your parents arranged for you to join the court of the New King and, one night via carriage, transported you to the large, and quite frankly a little intimidating, palace of Asteria’s reigning monarch.
NOW IT COMES TO —
You still don’t fit in - being a Lady was not something you were prepared to become and now you find yourself a little confused with what to do. You’re supposed to wait on the Queen - but, the New King stubbornly remains unmarried, putting you out of your purpose. Still, you’ve made some connections at court, made new friends and for the first time in your life you don’t feel as tense as before. The King is treating you nicely and with the announcement of his upcoming nuptials to Sotera’s Spare Princess, you’re finding yourself giddying up - finally, you’ll have something tangible to do, rather than just lounging around the palace reading books, strolling the gardens and practising your dancing skills.
HEADCANONS.
character traits:  + traits loyal, gentle, kind, generous, friendly.  - traits shy, stubborn, lack of confidence, deflective. headcanons. she often has nightmares about a hooded figure calling out her name from deep within a strange looking, pale green fog. she often wakes up in sweat afterwards and has trouble falling asleep for the rest of the night. likes animals. upon arrival to the asterian court, she adopted a young, black kitten who got lost and couldn’t find it’s mother again. she calls it xiao hei. zhao yan is a night owl, she prefers to say up late, but also doesn’t like to sleep in late. she finds a day wasted if she wakes up too long after the sun has risen.
 POWER.
necromancy - dormant. tw decomposing. tw mentions of death. she cannot access her powers, but necromancy (once awakened) would become her core power. she would be able to raise the dead - any dead, but she is limited by the number of how many dead she can resurrect at the time. if she wants to resurrect a 'freshly' deceased body, it would take her under a minute, but would take her few minutes to recover. the more she uses the power, the longer is the period of recovery. if the body has been decomposing or is a complete skeleton, it would take her an hour to get them back to the original state (the power of reverse decay) and more than a few hours to recover - sometimes even days. she can use her power on more than one person/object/animal, but her recovery period would significantly lengthen in time. decay - dormant. her secondary power, she can use it in reverse form when practicing necromancy, but she can also use it to speed up the process of decay itself. just like her core power, her decay powers also have a cooling off period depending to which extent she uses them.

How is compatibility (Guna Milan) calculated for marriage in Vedic astrology?
It is said that marriage is definitely one of the biggest decisions any human being ever makes in their lifetime, and in most cultures of the world, it is more about the union of two families than it is about two people getting tied into the nuptial bond. Though unique in traditions, the country of India still holds a pretty special place with the matching of horoscopes or kundlis for assessment decisions relating to marriage. This ancient practice, Vedic astrology, became known as Guna Milan toward determination on how well two persons might harmonize in a marital relationship. But what is Guna Milan, and how does it work? First, let us break down this intriguing concept in both an informative and easily digestible way.
Tumblr media
What is Guna Milan?
Guna Milan is one of the techniques in Vedic Astrology used for comparing the horoscopes of the prospective bride and bridegroom with respect to compatibility in marriage. Herein, "Guna" means "good qualities or attributes," and "Milan" means "matching." Therefore, Guna Milan primarily refers to the matching of qualities between two individuals for checking their compatibility with each other.
It is based upon the Nakshatras or lunar constellations in which the moon was positioned at the time of birth of both individuals. Vedic astrology places major significance on the position of the Moon because it shows the emotional and psychological tendencies of an individual's nature.
The 36 Gunas: A Cosmic Compatibility Checklist
The process of Guna Milan uses the Ashtakoot system of assessing compatibility. "Ashta" means eight, while "Koot" means categories or points. There are thus eight categories on which the Guna Milan system rests, and each of these categories is bound by a certain number of points. All in all, the total points which can be scored in Guna Milan are 36.
Herein is an overview of these eight Koots and what each of them represents:
1. Varna (1 point): This is for spiritual compatibility and ego levels of the couple. Varna Koot compares the caste or temperament of the individuals.
2. Vashya (2 points): This determines who will have a stronger influence in the relationship and how well the couple can balance each other's strengths and weaknesses.
3. Tara (3 points): This decides the health and well-being of the couple and strength to stand by each other through all odds in life.
4. Yoni (4 points): It is for sexual compatibility and physical attraction between the couple.
5. Graha Maitri (5 points): It looks at the psychological compatibility and mutual affection between the couple based on the relationship between their ruling planets.
6. Gana (6 points): It is concerned with the character and temperament of the two partners. In all, there are three subcategories for Gana Koot: Deva, Manushya, Rakshasa. This is based on the simple assumption that people of different Ganas will be of different natures and their priorities in life may differ.
7. Bhakoot (7 points): It checks emotional compatibility; that is, the effect of the relationship on both entities' prosperity and longevity. Many consider it one of the essential parameters.
8. Nadi (8 points): This concerns health matters, mostly those issues related to offspring or progeny. It has the maximum points in Guna Milan since it also establishes the biological compatibility of both entities.
Scoring in Guna Milan
The sum of the points in these eight factors is 36. Generally, 18 or more is considered an acceptable score for marriage purposes; the higher the score, the better. Briefly, here is what different scores suggest:
- 32 to 36 Gunas: Excellent match. It is virtually finding a match made in heaven. - 25 to 31 Gunas: Very good compatibility. The couple is likely to have a harmonious relationship.
- 18 to 24 Gunas: Average compatibility. This is acceptable for marriage though some adjustments and compromises might be needed.
- Below 18 Gunas: Compatibility is considered below average and marriage may not be recommended unless there are strong compensating factors in the individual horoscopes.
Beyond the Gunas: The Bigger Picture
While Guna Milan provides a structured way to evaluate the compatibility between two individuals, one should remember that it is not everything. A good guna score does not guarantee that a marriage will work out; likewise, a low score doesn't mean everything is gloom and doom. General chart analysis—including Manglik Dosh and strength of the seventh house, governing marriage—assumes gigantic proportions in determining marital harmony.
The Human Touch in Compatibility
That finally brings us to what overshadows everything the stars say: compatibility. Making a relationship work takes emotional intelligence, mutual respect, clear communication, and shared values. Guna Milan provides some insight and guidelines, but it is in the commitment and effort that two people put into tending their bond that the magic of marriage happens.
It is all about growing up together, sharing the 'tecups and downs' of life, realizing all those dreams, and being there for each other. So, as much as Guna Milan stands as an age-old tradition that brings a layer of cosmic understanding into this beautiful journey, the real essence of a contented marriage is simply the love and understanding between two hearts.

It opens with Hermione pleasuring herself to VR porn, reimagines Bohemia as a deadly video game and turns theatre’s most famous stage direction into the supporting character of a hot-headed panda.
Time’s “swift passage” speech, fast-forwarding 16 years in the plot, is just about all that remains from the original text, although Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116 (“Let me not to the marriage of true minds”) is shrewdly added and complemented by a scene featuring Leonard Cohen’s Treaty (“I wish there was a treaty / between your love and mine”). It ends with a full ensemble jig to Beyoncé’s Texas Hold ’Em. Did I mention the nuptials are officiated by a banana avatar?
...“What I am doing would be illegal in the UK,” says James with a laugh, a couple of hours before the show’s premiere on a sweltering May evening. Completely rewriting Shakespeare could well be met with frosty suspicion at home. Never mind setting half the play inside a video game filmed with characters wearing “beautiful, insane, faux heads” and shown on a huge screen which mostly obscures the stage actors who stomp around behind, their oversized red boots poking out underneath.

Wedding Trends & Transformations for 2024-2025
Tumblr media
Introduction
The global wedding industry is undergoing a seismic transformation, reshaped by evolving consumer behaviors, changing priorities of couples, and a burgeoning focus on experiential celebrations. With destination weddings at the epicenter of this shift, 2024-2025 promises unprecedented growth and innovation across the sector. This article delves into the changing dynamics of the wedding industry, the role of key stakeholders like hotels, wedding planners, and tourism boards, and how platforms like the Exito Wedding Planning Congress (EWPC) are instrumental in shaping its future.
Changing Couple Behaviors: The Rise of Intentional Celebrations
Modern couples are prioritizing deeply personal and immersive wedding experiences over traditional grandeur. Post-pandemic, there’s a noticeable preference for destination weddings as couples seek to blend their nuptials with travel and exploration. According to industry reports:
Personalization: Couples are curating unique experiences for themselves and their guests, ranging from themed celebrations to multi-day events featuring local culture and cuisines.
Sustainability: Eco-conscious weddings are on the rise, with couples opting for venues and vendors that align with their values of sustainability and ethical practices.
Guest Experience: The focus is increasingly on creating unforgettable guest experiences, with activities like local tours, wellness retreats, and adventure sports becoming popular add-ons.
How Destination Weddings Evolved in 2024
The evolution of destination weddings has been shaped by shifting consumer preferences and external factors over the past few years:
2022: The rebound from pandemic restrictions saw couples favoring intimate gatherings, with a significant surge in “micro-weddings” held at picturesque destinations.
2023: Couples began incorporating hybrid elements, inviting both physical and virtual attendees. There was also a growing demand for immersive experiences, blending cultural exploration with the wedding event.
2024: Destination weddings have reached a new zenith. Couples are embracing larger guest lists, reflecting confidence in global travel. New regions have emerged as favorites, and there is heightened emphasis on luxury and personalization. The role of technology has expanded, with AI-driven tools simplifying vendor selection and planning.
Hotels and Resorts: Adapting to the Destination Wedding Boom
The hospitality industry is innovating rapidly to cater to the surging demand for destination weddings. Hotels and resorts are no longer just venues; they are becoming comprehensive wedding experience providers. Key adaptations include:
Customized Wedding Packages: Offering tailored packages that include event planning, accommodations, and guest activities.
Dedicated Wedding Planners: Employing in-house wedding specialists to manage end-to-end logistics.
Hybrid Event Capabilities: Incorporating technology to facilitate virtual attendance for guests who cannot travel.
Cultural Immersion: Partnering with local artisans, chefs, and performers to deliver authentic cultural experiences.
This evolution has not only increased revenue for hotels but also elevated their positioning as key players in the wedding ecosystem. Leading chains have reported double-digit growth in revenue from wedding bookings, with some destinations seeing an 80% rise in inquiries.
Destination Weddings: Growth, Revenue, and Economic Impact
Destination weddings have become a global phenomenon, driving significant economic benefits for host regions. The global destination wedding market, valued at approximately $21 billion in 2023, is projected to grow by 12% annually, driven by:
Emerging Destinations: Locations like Bali, Greece, and Mexico are seeing a surge in popularity alongside traditional hubs like Italy and Thailand.
Year-Round Weddings: Flexible schedules and climate-conscious planning have minimized seasonality constraints.
Extended Stays: Couples and guests often extend their stays, boosting local tourism and hospitality revenue.
This growth has cascading effects on local economies, generating employment opportunities, increasing demand for local goods and services, and showcasing destinations on the global stage. In some regions, destination weddings contribute up to 15% of the tourism GDP.
Strategic Moves for Wedding Planners, Hotels, and Tourism Boards
To capitalize on this momentum, key stakeholders must adopt a forward-thinking and collaborative approach:
Wedding Planners:
Invest in technology to streamline logistics and enhance client experiences.
Build partnerships with global vendors and local service providers to offer seamless destination packages.
Stay ahead of trends by attending global conferences like EWPC to network and learn from industry leaders.
Hotels:
Upgrade facilities to accommodate diverse wedding styles, from intimate gatherings to lavish celebrations.
Focus on sustainability by offering eco-friendly wedding options.
Strengthen marketing efforts targeting international couples.
Tourism Boards:
Collaborate with wedding planners and hospitality providers to position their regions as top-tier wedding destinations.
Launch targeted campaigns in emerging markets to attract high-spending couples.
Facilitate smooth regulatory processes for foreign couples planning weddings.
The Role of EWPC: Past, Present, and Future
EWPC has been a game-changer in the global wedding industry, fostering collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Over the years, it has:
Connected Industry Leaders: Brought together wedding planners, hoteliers, and tourism professionals to exchange ideas and form strategic partnerships.
Showcased Trends: Provided a platform to explore emerging trends, from tech-driven planning tools to sustainability-focused practices.
Empowered Growth: Offered actionable insights and networking opportunities that have directly contributed to business growth for attendees.
Looking ahead, EWPC is poised to play an even more significant role. As the wedding industry continues to evolve, the congress will:
Serve as a knowledge hub, helping stakeholders navigate challenges and embrace opportunities.
Introduce innovative formats and technologies to enhance planning and execution.
Expand its reach, bringing together voices from diverse geographies to shape a truly global perspective.
Conclusion
The wedding industry of 2024-2025 stands at the cusp of extraordinary growth and transformation. As couples continue to redefine what weddings mean to them, the industry must evolve to meet these expectations. With destination weddings driving the charge, the potential for economic impact and innovation is immense. Platforms like EWPC will remain at the heart of this journey, empowering stakeholders to adapt, innovate, and thrive in this dynamic landscape.
For wedding planners, hoteliers, and tourism boards, the time to act is now. By aligning strategies with emerging trends and leveraging opportunities for collaboration, they can not only meet but exceed the expectations of modern couples, ensuring a thriving and resilient future for the industry.

There is a sense of historical parallel as well as irony in the stories of Shiera Blackwood and Argella Durrandon. Where once Lord Roderick Blackwood had attempted to use the Durrandons as a convenient shield against the tyranny of the Teague kings, three centuries later King Argilac Durrandon eyed Lord Aegon Targaryen to serve as a buffer against another marauding Riverlands king, Harren Hoare. Where Lord Roderick had called upon his nuptial ties to the Durrandons (specifically the marriages of his daughters to both King Arlan III Durrandon and his son) in order to defy King Humfrey Teague, Argilac offered a nuptial tie to Lord Aegon - specifically, the marriage of his daughter to Aegon himself - to bulwark his own state against King Harren. Neither Lord Blackwood nor King Argilac seems to have anticipated actually losing his crown (actual or expected) by utilizing such marital connections: Yandel cites epistolary evidence suggesting that King Arlan “planned to restore the crown to House Blackwood, in the person of his good-father Lord Roderick” after overthrowing the Teagues, while Gyldayn asserts that King Argilac “[p]lainly … meant to establish the Targaryens along the Blackwater as a buffer between his own lands and those of Harren the Black”. Yet in both cases, diplomatic unions resulted not in the strengthening of the native states, but in the annihilation of their independence and former political identities (following the deaths in battle of these respective aristocratic fathers): after Roderick Blackwood fell during the Battle of Six Kings, Arlan III assumed direct control over the Riverlands for House Durrandon, and after Argilac Durrandon was killed during the Last Storm, the former Stormlands kingdom became a feudal vassal of the new Targaryen domain. If both Roderick’s daughter Shiera and Argilac’s daughter Argella were briefly considered (or considered themselves) heiresses to their fathers’ geopolitical designs, Westerosi aristocratic misogyny lost the crown for each: “the riverlords spoke out against being ruled by a woman” when King Arlan contemplated acclaiming Shiera as queen, according to Yandel, while “the soldiers of the garrison” at Storm’s End, according to Gyldayn, “delivered Lady Argella gagged, chained, and naked to the camp of Orys Baratheon”. The very circumstances which had extended the Durrandon empire to its greatest reach had also marked its dissolution: just as Shiera Blackwood had received no crown and instead remained only a Durrandon princess by marriage, tied to the dynasty which had swallowed her father’s would-be dominion, so Argella found herself not the Storm Queen but Lady Baratheon, almost literally bound by marriage to the new lordly power which had assumed control of her ancestral inheritance.
At the same time, there is a meta tragedy to both the story of Shiera Blackwood and that of Argella Durrandon. In each case, the narrative importance, and indeed existence, of each woman terminates at the moment her proposed rule is rejected: Yandel only mentions Shiera in a few brief sentences following his description of the Battle of Six Kings, while Argella completely disappears from Fire and Blood following Gyldayn’s note on her marriage to Orys Baratheon. These women exist exclusively or virtually exclusively to be betrayed by their own neighbors and sworn men. Shiera could not rule as Queen of the Trident because the riverlords - at least some of whom had presumably fought beside Roderick Blackwood during his last battle - would not support their liege being a woman, while Argella was kidnapped, stripped, bound, gagged, and physically handed over to the enemy commander by the soldiers of her own familial castle - and this after Gyldayn had underlined the loyalty of King Argilac’s vassals. If Argella receives the barest characterization - in that the author actually gives her a few direct quotes - neither she nor Shiera have any real interiority, and certainly not after losing their kingdoms. How these women felt about not becoming queens in their own right, what their relationships were like with the husbands who had helped take over their own lands, what these women made of the conquests of their homelands, how they reacted to their respective betrayals - these and all other questions about them go completely unanswered by the author. Having introduced them as gendered victims turned dynastic conduits, the author disposes of each woman in turn; they seemingly only matter as characters to the extent they can be ignored.

Unveiling Tomorrow’s, I Dos: A Wedding Trend Forecast for Savvy Planners
The wedding industry is a constantly evolving landscape, a beautiful dance between tradition and innovation. As a Wedding Planner in Ahmedabad, you understand that success hinges on not just mastering the classics, but also staying ahead of the curve. Today's couples are more informed, more discerning, and more eager to personalize their big day than ever before. To help you craft unforgettable experiences, let’s dive into the wedding trends that are shaping the future of nuptial celebrations.
The year is seeing a shift in how couples approach their special day, and for a Wedding Planner in Vadodara it is paramount to be armed with this knowledge. Gone are the days of generic cookie-cutter weddings. Now, couples seek authentic, experiential events that reflect their unique personalities and values. This means a more collaborative approach between you, the planner, and the couple, ensuring their vision comes to life seamlessly. Understanding these trends allows you to guide your clients with confidence and offer bespoke solutions that truly resonate.
From intimate gatherings to grand affairs, the desire for unique and memorable moments remains consistent across the board. For a Wedding Planner in Gujarat, understanding these shifts is not just about following trends; it’s about anticipating the needs of your clients. As the wedding landscape continues to evolve, the need to master these trends to provide unique and personalised weddings to your clients is vital.
1. The Rise of the Micro Wedding and Sequel Weddings:
The pandemic undoubtedly influenced wedding styles, and the popularity of the micro-wedding isn’t fading. Smaller guest lists (typically 50 or fewer) don't mean less celebration; instead, they allow couples to focus on quality over quantity. Think luxurious details, gourmet meals, and deeply personalized experiences.
Why it matters: Micro-weddings offer a chance to showcase creativity and cater to a more intimate and meaningful celebration. It allows for a bigger budget per guest, focusing on creating extraordinary experiences.
How to adapt: Showcase your ability to create highly personalized and detail-oriented experiences. Highlight intimate venues, bespoke menus, and unique entertainment options.
Trend Extension: 'Sequel Weddings' are also emerging. Couples who had a small ceremony earlier on are now planning larger celebrations with a renewed sense of freedom and joy.
2. Sustainability and Eco-Conscious Celebrations:
More and more couples are prioritizing sustainability and eco-friendliness when planning their weddings. They are seeking ways to minimize their environmental impact while still having a stunning celebration.
Why it matters: This is not just a trend; it’s a reflection of growing awareness. Clients appreciate sustainable practices and will be more likely to hire you if you can demonstrate your commitment to eco-friendly options.
How to adapt: Research local and sustainable vendors, source eco-friendly decor, suggest digital invitations, and offer catering options that prioritize seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Think biodegradable or reusable options for disposables.
Trend Extension: Upcycled or pre-loved wedding dresses are gaining popularity. Encourage this practice.
3. Immersive and Experiential Entertainment:
Gone are the days of standard DJs or bands. Couples are now looking for interactive and immersive entertainment that engages their guests on multiple levels.
Why it matters: Entertainment is a key component of any memorable event. Couples want their guests to feel involved and have a truly unique experience.
How to adapt: Explore options beyond traditional music. Think live painters, interactive art installations, personalized cocktail crafting stations, or even virtual reality experiences. The goal is to create unique touchpoints throughout the celebration.
Trend Extension: Personalized experiences are very sought after, so think of adding a guest book with a twist, like a polaroid wall, or a wish tree.
4. Color Palettes That Tell a Story:
While classic white will always hold its place, color palettes are becoming more expressive and reflective of personal taste.
Why it matters: Color sets the mood and tone for the entire wedding. Couples are moving away from generic palettes and want something that truly embodies their style.
How to adapt: Stay abreast of the latest color trends, but also be able to guide your clients in choosing palettes that resonate with their personalities and the venue. Expect to see bold jewel tones, nature-inspired earthy hues, and even playful pastels that evoke a sense of fun.
Trend Extension: The integration of metallic accents is still prominent, but it is evolving into mixed metals instead of just gold or silver.
5. Destination Weddings Redefined:
Destination weddings are still popular but with a twist. Couples are opting for destinations that offer more than just picturesque scenery. They’re seeking experiences, cultural immersion, and adventure.
Why it matters: It’s about making a wedding a memorable vacation for both the couple and their loved ones. The focus is on creating shared experiences that extend beyond the wedding day.
How to adapt: Be prepared to plan not just the wedding ceremony and reception, but also excursions, cultural tours, and other activities that enhance the overall experience.
Trend Extension: Destination weddings are now also increasingly focused on local impact. Clients are keen to contribute to local businesses and communities at their chosen destination.
As the wedding industry continues to evolve, embracing these trends will be crucial for any successful wedding planner. By staying informed and adapting your approach, you can continue to create unforgettable experiences for your clients. Here at Brothers Events and Entertainments, we believe that understanding the ever-changing landscape is key to providing truly exceptional service. Choosing the Perfect Short Bridal Dress Selecting the ideal short bridal dress involves considering various factors, from your personal style to the wedding theme. Here are some essential tips to guide your decision-making process: #1. Consider Your Wedding Theme The dress you choose should align with the overall theme of your wedding. For a beach wedding, opt for lightweight fabrics and relaxed silhouettes. Conversely, if you’re hosting a formal event, consider a more structured mini dress with elegant details. #2. Think About Your Body Type Understanding your body type can help you choose a dress that flatters your figure. Here are some common body types and suitable dress styles: Pear-Shaped: A-line or fit-and-flare dresses can accentuate the waist while providing balance to the hips. Hourglass: Sheath dresses or fitted styles can highlight your curves beautifully. Athletic: Look for dresses with embellishments or ruffles to create the illusion of curves. Plus Size: Empire waist or A-line dresses can provide comfort and style while flattering your figure. #3. Fabric Matters The fabric of your short bridal dress can significantly impact the overall look and feel. Consider the following materials: Lace: Adds a romantic and vintage touch. Chiffon: Lightweight and flowy, ideal for a soft silhouette. Satin: Offers a luxurious and polished appearance. Tulle: Creates volume and a whimsical feel. #4.
