Nefertiti: A Beautiful Pharaoh with a Hidden Legacy
In the annals of ancient Egypt, one figure stands out not only for her breathtaking beauty but also for the profound impact she had on history. Nefertiti, the queen consort of Pharaoh Akhenaten, remains an enigmatic and mesmerizing figure, her legacy shrouded in mystery.
A Spiritual Shift:
Nefertiti and her husband, Pharaoh Akhenaten, dared to challenge the established Egyptian worship of Amon. Instead, they embraced the radical idea of monotheism, turning their allegiance towards one God. This courageous departure from traditional beliefs marked a significant moment in Egyptian history, one that would leave an indelible mark on Nefertiti's story.
The Vanishing Queen:
As a consequence of their religious revolution, Nefertiti's name mysteriously disappeared from the records of pharaohs in the Valley of the Gods. The erasure was a testament to the drastic shift in beliefs and the powerful forces at play in ancient Egyptian society.
The Rise and Fall:
Despite their efforts, the religious reforms initiated by Akhenaten and Nefertiti did not withstand the test of time. Following their reign, King Tutankhamun reverted to the ancient traditions, leading to the destruction of Nefertiti's temple and the restoration of the old order.
The Controversial Bust:
Surprisingly, the most iconic representation of Nefertiti didn't surface until centuries later. Her exquisite bust, a masterpiece of ancient artistry, was discovered during excavations and subsequently found its way to Germany. This masterpiece, now residing in a museum, has become a point of contention between the Egyptian government and the German authorities.
The Modern Controversy:
The debate over cultural heritage and the rightful ownership of ancient artifacts has intensified in recent times. The tension between Egypt and Germany regarding Nefertiti's bust adds a modern twist to an already intricate tale. The question of whether such priceless relics should be returned to their country of origin echoes through museums and international relations.
In the heart of this captivating narrative lies a powerful woman who defied conventions, challenged beliefs, and left an enduring legacy. Nefertiti's story continues to capture the imagination of those who delve into the mysteries of ancient Egypt, reminding us that even in the sands of time, the echoes of her reign linger on.

No Sleep: NYC Nightlife Flyers 1988-1999 / Available at www.draw-down.com / A #visualhistory of the halcyon days of #NewYorkCity club life as told through flyer art. Spanning the late 80s through the late 90s, when #nightlife buzz travelled via flyers and word of mouth, No Sleep features a collection of artwork from the personal archives of New York City DJs, promoters, #clubkids, nightlife impresarios, and the artists themselves. Club flyers, by design, were ephemeral objects distributed on street corners, outside of #nightclubs and concert halls, in barbershops and retail shops, and were not intended to be preserved for posterity. Through the 90s, they became both increasingly prevalent and more sophisticated as printing technology evolved. Overnight, however, with the birth of the internet, the club flyer essentially disappeared, and despite it being common at one time for promoters to print thousands of flyers for any given event, they are now hard to come by. Take me back Tuesday: Meet me in St. Louie❣️...where you can find the World’s Largest Amoco Sign!!! ps. Throughout this quarantine, I’ve really been struggling with artist’s block. It’s hard to make art when there’s so much sadness going on in the world, but those are also the times when it is needed the most. Naturally, it took me ‘til I was supposed to be preparing my taxes for inspiration to strike. While reminiscing about my awesome childhood in St. Louis, MO & how much I miss my family, I began to try to visually tell a story of my colorful youth & a nostalgic view of life in my great hometown. The ideas began seeping out of me and I can’t stop!!!! I am loving every minute. So, this summer I’m launching #saraphiaXstlouis ...”a trip down memory lane”. What I’ve found is that visual evidence of bygone era places is exceedingly {surprisingly so} hard to find, even out on there on the ol’ interweb. Some of my favorite establishments of yesteryear are almost impossible to find images of! So, I’ve decided I’m going to devote my summer to creating them. To all of the places and things that are most vivid in the corners of my mind. Cheers to finding comfort in what surrounded you growing up! {Swipe➡️ for a sneak peak of the collection, which will all be mixed media/screened on canvas, accented with glitter & lacquered.} #stlouis #takemeback #stlouie #takemebacktuesday #tbt #amoco #stlouisart #stuffilove #rightbyhome #missingthelou #retroartifacts #matchbooks #memorylane #visualhistory #retro #oldtypography #neonsigns #popart #mixedmedia #saraphia #saraphiaXstlouis (at St. Louis, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAq_biilkhh/?igshid=3azy0v9h9l3f

TOO MANY have paid WAY TOO MUCH and recieved WAY TOO LITTLE for WAY TOO LONG for YOU to do them, our children and YOURSELF wrong...
