Some time ago, I've stumbled upon posts made by @skinwretch and @blimbo-buddy about an au there Bumble is a daughter of One Eye, and my own ideas spiralled out of control. So, Flower Bumble AU! Star Flower and Bumble are born and raised as a part of the proto Sisters group. One Eye, their father, lived with his own rouges amoungst them, and had quite ambitious goals for Star Flower, seing her as the next leader for his group or the Sisters. I feel like the siblings have a very strong bond, despite Star knowing that Bumble left mostly to escape the influence of her father. Bumble worries a lot about her sister, but Star always reassures her that its the live that she wants (despite having very complicated feelings about being held up to such high standarts) The plot of this au mostly goes as in canon, except the fact that Bumble can freely see ghosts without a proper ritual. Star Flower comes in the area as a scout of her group, and decides to stay with her sister for a bit, and, oh, she has a roommate! What's a "clan" though? ...Bumble, what do you mean theres been more ghosts in the area?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN SOMEONE KILLED A CAT AND TOOK HER CHILDREN??? So, yea, Bumble and Star Flower are weary of thouse "clan cats" coming into their territorry, surely nothing bad will come of it, right?

MEET: Honey Bee

As punishment for Mapleshade’s crimes, she was given the name Shaded Maple and was sent back in time, to the very beginning, in the hopes that seeing the fledgling Clans being formed would remind her of her loyalty, as well as why they needed to stay strong, proud, and separate rather than cross boundaries even in the name of love.

Instead, she found Bumble.

It was a long, arduous process for Shaded Maple to settle into the new time, and longer still for her mind to recover from the point it had been in when she had died, but Bumble - sweet, lovely, beautiful Bumble - helped immensely, endlessly patient and adorably thrilled when Shaded Maple made her announcement that she would be leaving the wilderness behind without hesitation, so long as that meant staying by Bumble’s side.

Their little daughter, Honey Bee, every bit as sweet-natured and short-tempered as her name implied, followed not long after, a perfect mixture of her mothers in personality and a miracle in her own right.

Bumble's Curse AU (DOTC) (half-baked)

The Bullshit

I think what really annoys me about Bumble's death aside from the sexism and xenophobia and the sending her back to an abuser and not doing anything against Clear Sky is the fact that THEY AT LEAST COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING WITH IT.

Think about it. The first main character of the series was Rusty/Firestar, a kittypet who proved himself over and over in spite of his origins and became legend among the Clans.

Then we flashback to the creation of the Clans and have Bumble, who was rejected for her kittypet origins and.......nothing comes from it. Literally nothing reasonable.

What They Could Have Done

They could have still killed her, much as that scene absolutely sucked, if it was to intentionally show the Clans' xenophobia, to show the Clans' flaws and how that will eventually lead to Firestar changing things. But rejecting Bumble as a Clanmate was seen as a completely good thing??

Like they could have deliberately made their stories correlate in opposite directions.

So what if the Clans actually faced consequences for literally not helping Bumble when she was abused and leading her on the path of death?

I like the idea of her relating to water or ice, as that's the opposite of fire.

My Main Idea

She becomes a crying spirit, so distraught from her death and how she was treated by everyone--friends to enemies--in her life, that her ghost, if seen, is seen always crying

(cats can't cry, but in the books they shrug, show the whites of their eyes, have kits talk and open their eyes at like one day, so I think it's fine)

The emotions engulf her entirely, so that all she can feel in her death is utter sorrow. And because ~spirit powers~ those tears are the waters that flood SkyClan--the Clan that was founded by her killer. Because she sees how many kittypets reside in it, and if she wasn't so destroyed, so constricted in how she could feel as a spirit doomed to always feel only sadness, she would have been glad for them, she would have been happy!

But because she was a crying spirit, she could only cry at the unfairness of it. Why could they get the life that she had wished for herself?

And, as Patchpelt once said in Forest of Secrets: "I remember the last time the river overflowed, many moons ago. Cats from all Clans drowned. Prey drowned, too, and we went hungry even though our paws stayed dry. This is not just RiverClan's problem."

Maybe Bumble had to do with that flood as well? It's not seen in books, so it could have happened for a number of reasons. Maybe when Featherstorm met with a kittypet or had a kittypet's kits? Maybe, to tie them further, when Firestar was born and she could feel the prophecy, and knew of a kittypet that would be accepted into the Clans and become a wonderful leader?

As well, there's the flood in Bramblestar's Storm--though the kittypets join afterward. What if Benny was destined to become someone great, almost like Firestar, but this knowledge upset Bumble further, resulting in the flood.

As well, Shadowstar lost a life to drowning--and she was the leader to reject Bumble.

To make this short and not put in detail every water-related incident, here's a list of those that drowned, and thus could have possibly been killed (unintentionally and unknowingly) by Bumble:

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

You may say that Bumble's no killer, and I would agree with you! In this case, the deaths are not murders, Bumble is not killing them intentionally--she likely doesn't even realize that she's killing them at all.

She is constantly crying in her afterlife, and whenever she sees something that especially triggers the deep sorrow inside her (like something that reminds her of her own pain or the life she could have had), a flood results--and the flood could kill anyone that gets caught in it, regardless of if they, specifically, caused her sadness.

Then, what if someone--Firestar, Princess, Echosong, another kittypet or kittypet-turned warrior finds her, and breaks the trance that had engulfed Bumble for years?

And she realizes the monster that she had become, that she made herself into, that the Clans made her into--no, the Clan founders, because these cats alive now were innocent. Just like she was. and she breaks down. The numb exterior that had built after decades of living as a crying spirit shatters, and Bumble is Bumble again.

More ideally, everyone who killed/rejected her apologize deeply. Maybe she accepts, maybe she doesn't, she's just glad to have the pain mostly gone, because she spent too long suffering and making others suffer because of it, and she just wants to move on.

And together, they send a message to the Clans to not neglect help from anyone who may need it, regardless of where they come from, and to think twice before rejecting someone based solely on where they come from. -- At least then they could admit the whole xenophobia problem in Warriors and try to fix it.

This is still very wonky, especially that ending part. My brain is still fried to blackened ash from final exams, but I thought of this and wanted to get it out there.

I think Bumble would be more interesting of a character if she was, you know, a character and not a prop, written only to be abused, neglected, killed, and forgotten. And I think it would be interesting if the Clans' xenophobia was called out and dealt with instead of something that's treated as perfectly okay and normal.

I know I’m jumping on this train late (been enjoying the posts in silence) but the fact that Bumble’s death wasn’t a bigger thing within the books is still wild to me

The ignoring an abuse victim begging for help and shelter, fatphobia, xenophobia, and brutal murder are obviously the worst points and have been covered by smarter people before, so I’ll stick with a smaller aspect I want to mention and that’s:

Did the Erins forget the point of the first series??

The whole plot of The First Prophecy—the first series they wrote for Warriors and probably the one they put the most thought into—was a story about a kittypet proving again and again that where you come from does not determine who you are and that being born with “warrior blood” doesn’t matter as long as you have a determined and noble heart. They wrote instances again and again of cats doubting Firestar’s ability because of his kittypet heritage, how he’s too soft or too weak, and they wrote how Firestar proved them wrong every time.

But then we jump to Bumble, a kittypet who is part of the Clans’ history before they even officially became Clans, and she’s just…brushed aside and killed. They said how she was too soft and too weak and unable to live like a Clan cat and they were just…supposed to be right? Supposed to be in the right?

The last part is what REALLY gets me.

It could have been an interesting tie-in, connecting Bumble and Firestar because of other cats doubting them for being kittypets, where one story ending tragically while the other heroically (or they could have made it where Bumble’s story didn’t end tragically and still tied to Firestar’s)

It could have been something if it was intentional and meaningful and bigger because of the “proving you’re more than what others say” theme that the original series was supposed to be about.

Instead it’s just…oh well she was a kittypet and now she’s dead how sad. Anyways, the important cats—

Re-drew Bumble because I love her.

I still can’t get over the fact they killed her off and that the cats continued to call her pathetic and that they had Tom, Turtle Tail, and Gray Wing fight over her grave. Why are they so against kittypet’s? They just say she can’t join their group because she’s fat and a kittypet and send her off to die. They didn’t even try to see what she could do, they just sent her off. They could’ve just had her build dens or something! That would’ve been a cool job for her to do!

The treatment of Bumble was so awful, I couldn’t get through the chapters because it just pissed me off sm, I just had to skip them.

Fixing Bumble's Bad Writing, and Tom's Death

Alright. There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. We all know the issues.

Here is how I make this somewhat better.

Bumble doesn't get told to go back to Tom in the rewrite. She is a kittypet, and enjoys her life, and doesn't want to leave it. Bumble liked her life before this new cat was in it.

So, Bumble wants to learn how to fight. Just a few moves. Nothing too complicated. All she wants to do is defend herself, and stay for a few days!

Cautiously, Grey Wing agrees, and brings Bumble to Tall Shadow. Turtle Tail is insistent on helping, and keeps talking about how "Bumble can't defend herself, she needs our help!"

Tall Shadow almost refuses when she finds out that Bumble was front paw declawed by a previous owner. Then Bumble body-slams her into the ground, and Tall Shadow goes "Alright. You can stay for a little bit."

Then Tom follows Bumble, confused about where she went. I made him visit earlier, due to drama.

He encounters Clear Sky early on, who tells him what amounts to "fuck off", finds the moor, smells Turtle Tail, and finds Grey Wing reflecting (imagine the "i was so distressed i spent the while afternoon listening to soft rock while cross-fading" clip from gumball).

Grey Wing takes one look at him, remembers Bumble, and leads him to the camp, and loudly talks about how HEY, THIS IS TOM, HE USED TO LIVE WITH BUMBLE! DOES EVERYBODY REMEMBER BUMBLE? BUMBLE IS A SHE-CAT LIVING HERE WITH NUMEROUS SCRATCHES FROM TOM! TOM WANTS TO MEET TURTLE TAIL, WHO IS PREGNANT WITH HIS KITS. TOM CARES ABOUT TURTLE TAIL, JUST LIKE HE DID ABOUT BUMBLE, WHO HE GAVE SEVERAL INJURIES!

Just about everybody realizes what's going on, including Tom, and Bumble walks out and threatens him, chasing him away because holly hell what happened to Bumble who didn't stand up for herself.

All the while Tall Shadow is going "YASS QUEEN, YOU GO GIRL!"

Anyway, after that Bumble goes back to her Twolegs, and that's generally where her arc ends. She goes to Limbo, and I am being sucked into a Bumble x Tall Shadow black hole, this is now rewrite canon.

After that, I'm unsure about how I want to kill off Tom. I sort of want to keep his canon death, as a reminder that even horrible people can do good things, but I'm also toying with the idea that Bumble tackles him into the gorge.
