I’ve been thinking about Ivypool and IvyFern through a different lense than most people.

There’s this sort of fandom assumption that Ivypool is this big strong girlboss who bravely conquered the dark forest that really acts like a disservice to her character. At the end of the day, she’s a victim. The dark forest exploited and groomed her, and basically took away her teenage and young adult years from her. She had to endure constant abuse almost every night in her sleep, barely without any moment to rest. She watched cats she trained with die, and even had to permanently erase Antpelt’s spirit, something that must now cause her even more grief after Bristlefrost’s death.

And after all the constant fighting, I do think that Ivypool deserves a sense of normalcy. She was targeted because she watched her sister be appreciated and loved by her clan, and she just wanted love and appreciation too. She looked for validation from Hawkfrost, and only found she was a pawn to destroy her home.

I don’t think she’s independent really. She’s someone whose character had a big focus on family, so it honestly feels realistic to me for her to find love with someone uninvolved with the dark forest. She can finally live the a calm life.

And of course by saying that I know that is not the authors’ intentions whatsoever. There is 100% a known misogynistic issue with warriors where female characters are constantly paired with male characters and have kits. So I do understand why many are so opposed to Ivypool having kits because realistically, it is the product of misogynistic writing.

But at the same time, you could say the same thing about other female characters. Dovewing, Violetshine, and Sunbeam were all suddenly paired with random toms (or in the case of Dovewing an ex with horrible implications in text) and randomly given kits as well. While the case with Sunbeam is just that many (me included) just do not like her relationship with Nightheart, I don’t understand why more people have an issue with them having kits as much as Ivypool?

But in the end, this is all just my own personal interpretation concerning a series with inconsistent character writing and it’s natural different people have different interpretations about the characters. This is not meant to be a jab at others with different opinions whatsoever as I am also a fan of interpretations where Ivypool and Fernsong are in a loveless marriage and headcanons where Ivypool is a lesbian or aroace.

also btw, re: that post from the other day where i say something to the effect of "i headcanon that none of crowfeather's love interests genuinely romantically love him for who he is", that is not even me trying to Epicly Dunk On Crowfeather Because I Dislike Him, it's genuinely just the interpretation of his arc and the arcs of the people around him i personally find most interesting and poetic. i think even fans of crowfeather tend to present him as a flawed, unpleasant guy who is deeply unhappy and mourning over his lost relationships to some extent, because that's kind of the whole appeal for his character. and while it doesn't work in canon for me, primarily due to the lack of narrative consequences he sees for his flaws, i do find appeal in the idea of this guy who desperately wants to be loved by someone but all of his relationships are doomed from the start in some way or another.
