Greetings! I've been listening to your wonderful podcast (love the characters, the editing, the music, it's all so cool!) and wanted to ask if there is a place where I can find official art of your PCs? If there is some!

#umineko #umineko spoilers #ikuko hachijo #ikukos turn for a more serious piece... the old man has reigned for too long #now. INCREDIBLY LONG INCOHERENT TAGS RANT INCOMING FAIR WARNING HAS BEEN GIVEN:#it makes me so so sad how little discussion there is about specifically ikuko because imho she fits so neatly into a lot of the more #overarching Big Themes of the game in a way that i have not ever really seen people take notice of or point out in a meaningful way #like even just off of the top of my head. the significance of names and what it means to go by a name that's Not Yours (she has like 4+)#what it Means to be a witch how it represents a person's deepest insecurities and flaws & how its at its core a coping mechanism #the fact that it takes two to create a universe and trying to do it on your own anyways has the capacity to bring you intense misery #^ (how she's shown to be extremely dismissive of her own work and skill until a collaborator comes into her life and helps/encourages her)#and even the family/patriarchy/misogyny stuff that is so prevalent in the rest of the game comes back around to her. even her Only Friend #(young&stupid atp to be fair) remarks that shes Weird for being unmarried + the little she does say about her past invites the question of #to what extent her self-image stems from her family deeming her a freak outcast & effectively disowning her while celebrating her brothers #and i have lot in my mind about the witch thing specifically because i think her particular situation is very reflective of what umineko's #entire magic system and fantasy facet as a whole is meant to represent for an individual. from what little we see of (what is presumably)#her Real personality she is shown to be deeply self conscious in a way that is JARRINGLY diametrically opposed to both 1.) what we see in #featherine and 2.) what we see when she is acting as a Public Figure. because both of the above are very much purposeful acts that she is #putting on in order to obfuscate her true self. and i have always been very resolute & adamant about not totally equating her to featherine #not only because im very firmly in the camp of “featherine is the avatar of the Pen Name & tohya is part of her too” but also very much b/c #i feel very strongly that the stark differences between the two are very centrally relevant to her character & her psyche. as is the case #with most other witches featherine's personality traits serve to reveal/magnify a lot of ikukos inner workings by playing on her #insecurities/reversing them e.g. ikuko being very quick to downplay her skill/achievements becomes featherine being the COMPLETE opposite #to the point where she barely registers even other witches as living beings rather than just fun touys. BUT even though i do champion the #ikuko/featherine separation so hard i ALSO think it is purposefully relevant that at first glance the line between them seems so blurry #her introduction implying a more nebulous separation between her reality/fantasy counterpart is i think is an intentional move on her part #like it is part of the front she is putting up when acting as the Author. as opposed to Ikuko the person who we (in a way ironically very #similar to the way that the Real Battler is presumably only shown during the boatscene) only very briefly get to see take up screentime #which even on a meta level lines up very well with her apparent underlying nature as a like. extremely private largely reserved/shy person #hit tag limit but if by some miracle anyone is still reading this thank you... please see ikuko with the love she deserves... ok ily byeee

The more confidently certain Murderbot is that no bots have genders or any interest in sex or romance the less likely it sounds. Really? None of them?

Like how bot pilots can only communicate in images?

Or how a human could never really be friends with a bot?

Or how SecUnits are never friends with each other?

It keeps making these sweeping generalisations about things it doesn't have a lot of data outside of its own lived experience to support, and its experience is not universal.

At this point I would not be surprised if Iris hit MB in the face with the revelation that ART hates Holism because they were involved before Holism fucked around and left it for Sum Total.

While I'm sure this is not true, I personally like to imagine the Genshin devs responsible for Alhaitham and Kaveh's relationship now locked in a silent but ferocious inter-office war with the Star Rail devs responsible for Phainon and Mydei's relationship, engaging in a third-party version of gay chicken to see who can sneak the most yaoi-tinged content past the censors the fastest in their simultaneous quest to win the official crown for the "Most canon MLM ship in modern Hoyo."

Phaidei devs came on strong and got that doomed yaoi on their side, but Haikaveh has the benefit of time on their side...

i'm kind of late to this but i just finished reading the scholomance trilogy by naomi novik and i feel like it is such an underrated urban fantasy?? taking the chosen one trope and turning it on its head with a fmc who has been prophesied to bring death and destruction, who is imbued with terrible power, but cannot even properly use said power to solve any of her obstacles because it would obliterate them and her soul. it takes a tired trope and the idea of an 'overpowered mary sue' and throws it back in your face by showing how all the power and destiny in the world is useless against a system filled with corruption that has burdened you with an easy way out (evil/destructive magic) that you can't take so now you have to work twice as hard as everyone else just to do simple, constructive spells instead of flicking your wrist and being done with it.

Can I just say, if you read or hear some wild version of a greek myth that you're already familiar with, there's no reason to come on here and make a post like "was no one going to tell me ___?! This changes EVERYTHING!" Chances are what you heard is simply some obscure version of the myth or a crazy tidbit about a well-known character that's only found in some forgotten scholiast's note on Pseudo-Apollodorus or some shit, a thousand years after the Iliad was written and any of that stuff was even relevant.

No need to get all up in arms about it. No reason to make that specific version your entire personality. Very, very few things in greek mythology are set in stone, there's always someone making stuff up, and especially when it comes to extremely popular characters like Achilles, every area in Greece likely had their own version of their myth. So take everything you hear with a grain of salt! Have fun, make stuff up yourself! That's literally the whole point

#it's great when ppl get excited about this or that myth but i feel like they often take them waaaay too seriously #“was no one going to tell me that patroclus and poseidon were lovers????”#“was no one going to tell me that thetis had six kids before achilles and killed them all???”#like no babe this isn't some huge part of the lore that was purposefully kept hidden from you #it simply isn't part of the big well-known sources we have #it's probably a throwaway comment or line in a work that was written a dozen centuries after the fact #also there's so many versions of myths sometimes it's hard to keep track #love thinking about that paper i read about achilles #where apparently he was so popular as a character that most areas in greece had their own myth about him marrying a princess #from that area #so yeah. impossible to reconcile them all or Achilles would have a thousand brides #you just pick and choose the stuff you like! that's all #greek mythology fuckery

#man I have just been really upset lately actually #late 2024 to now has just been the mask I didnt know I had was slipping #and me going “oh actually I'm pretty miserable and I was just trying to hide it from myself. what the fuck.”#and keeping those bad feelings away is getting harder and harder #i broke down completely a few days ago and had to leave dinner so my dad checked on me because I left my plate and i just. unloaded on him #I didn't even get to say everything because there's so much and im still learning how to articulate what makes me mad about my situation #he said that he can get me to see a professional (I was like LMAO FIRST TIME I SOB IN FRONT OF YOU UNPROMPTED YOU GET PROS INVOLVED?)#<- to be fair both my sisters asked for professional help and have been medicated before and he's on mental health meds too #he said maybe me talking to someone will make things better (I agree because maybe they'll help me be able to make a change in my house)#<- (cuz some stuff is just. unfair actually. and makes me super mad)#(like wdym the only minor works WAYYY more than half the house. wtf)#and also. since my social anxiety has been acting up lately and so has my paranoia. he said maybe medication would help #my social anxiety was so bad before school ended. whenever my Spanish teacher mentioned talking with people i felt sick #I've also hit my limit lately where if I'm having a bad day. one mildly annoying think makes me freak out and spiral #Like having to get toilet paper for the upstairs bathroom bc we ran out made me crash tf out #seeing people get paper plates made me so mad & complained to my sister who called me hostile for some things I said #<- And I started sobbing which was when my dad checked on me and i told him everything #man. being constantly environmentally conscious is so annoying when people in your house don't fucking care sometimes. i get sad #i feel like im personally being punished for needing to see people be wasteful because omg it gives me such guilt #sorry. tangent #i'm just really tired #of everything #I've felt like I've been annoying lately. that im not cool or funny or enjoyable #that I'm a burden you tolerate out of the goodness of your hearts or out of pity #I've felt like that for so so long #It's hard. realizing that being proud of my abilities was what kept me happy for so long. I’m posting this here now in case I’m right because the more I analyze the Leverage: Redemption season finale trailer the more I’m wondering how noir this noir looking episode is? Because the black and white scenes also make me think of during “The Hustler Job” when Eliot was telling the hostage computer hackers that Parker has a “very black and white” way of viewing things. We’ve seen this theme repeatedly with Parker this season even in “the grand complication job” with her single minded focus on the con and the few other episodes where she has taken back the mastermind role. I’m thinking the scenes may not be flashbacks but Parker’s POV of the situation and then we have that statement at the end of the trailer where she mentions “redemption” which shows her continued growth in that there always being more than just bad and good. We’ve had cons before where the bad guy isn’t as always as bad as they appear or can be redeemed. I’m wondering if this noir look is less of a period piece episode and more of a look into Parker’s way of viewing cons. (edit from the tags: or another white rabbit. More on that later)
