Here's something that is both nightmare fuel and lesbian fuel at the same time: Herald Caitlyn.

hmmmmmm rotating this in my mind. how do we get to Herald Caitlyn? the road is crooked, many twists and turns.

most direct route is thru the glitches that occurred in the temple to Janna during fight w Sevika and Jinx. like Jayce et al, the Hextech fuckery jiggers Cait (and Vi?) outta space and time, sending them on a journey.

AU where Cait isn't just Jayce's lil shadow, but turns out to be a tinker and a genius ala Ekko and Jinx, and so becomes Jayce's lab partner, too. she helps him crack Hextech instead of Vik. then, losing her mama, spirals out. but how do we get her to Singed for the necessary transformative element (Shimmer)? hmmmm...

oh! ok. AU where the se01ep01 explosion nearly kills Cait (and Vi?). (did this for the soulmates AU i wrote, hi @somewillwin!) but instead of the soulmates thing, Cait's on the edge of death and there's nothing mama Kiramman won't consider. something something, let's try Shimmer! (we see the medicinal properties of Shimmer in se01 when it literally cures Vi of a deadly knife wound, lol #knifewound). maybe timeline is stretched so Jayce and Vik already know each other and Vik saves the day or maybe mama Kiramman uses her resources to tap every possible anything that might save her daughter and comes across Silco and/or Singed herself. that would all be worked out in drafts we don't need an answer for that now.

ANYWAY:

now we've got Cait + MASSIVE Arcane power absorption event + (ongoing?) Shimmer treatment to stabilize/save her = Something We Did Not Intend. instead of building a hexcore she just IS the hexcore. from here, we could even follow canon more or less and get Commander Kiramman all the way to Warwick and, bob's your uncle, apex Shimmer is the final transformative element. there's just something in her that knows she needs to do this to complete what was accidentally started all those years ago w that explosion.

one glorious evolution later: Commander Herald Caitlyn Kiramman not defending Piltover but conquering it and telling Vi that choice is false. destiny is irresistible. every step has led them both here and always will. give in. don't resist. it's better this way.

punches and blasts of Arcane power ensue (it's not NOT sex), and in the dreamless void, Vi won't give up and Cait asks "why are you still here?" and Vi says "i guess it's destiny, like you said. i'm not giving up on you. whatever happens, whatever it means, we'll finish this together, cupcake" and they touch foreheads and KISS and then wink out of existence in a flash of orange, white, and pink.

Random Viktor headcanons:

· He can either never hold an eye contact for too long, or will stare into your soul until you feel your whole mind exposed like you're naked.

· When in a standing line or a waiting room, it's no wonder that eyes linger on him. It used to make him uncomfortable when he first came to Piltover... But he got used to it, mastering fully ignoring people with a resting bitch face.

· Little does he know some of those gazes are of admiration, curiosity and attraction to his looks. (He thinks he's average looking, and thinks according to Piltover he's under average)

· Somehow, kids linger a lot around him, and you bet that he feels awkward, not knowing what to do when he's sitting while a 2 years old toddler stands in front of him staring with big eyes. Just that.

· He'll stare back a bit but he won't be able to hold it too much, trying to preoccupy himself with anything else, fidgeting, checking his watch, anything... Until the child's parents come take them away from him. (Thank God)

· That's the thing with kids, and people in general. He's a scientists, his mind works with logic, deductions, equations, rules and predictions based on given information... People and especially kids aren't predictable, which gives him anxiety.

things I wish I could relive for the first time again:

that magical window where you finish a new piece of media, having watched/read it all by yourself with no fandom contact whatsoever, and you are just so happy about it, and full of interesting theories and takeaways, and just in love with it as a gorgeous piece of art.

because I swear to god as soon as you join the fandom for anything, you're bombarded with how you're supposed to view characters and their arcs, how you're supposed to morally and ethically judge the plot and the ways it apparently failed to present the right message, and if you don't you'll either be shunned for not sharing the popular headcanons or you'll be harassed for not criticizing the source material enough.

like how is it that the fans of a piece of media are also the ones being the most negative about it? If I like a show or a movie or a book, well, I liked it. That's kind of the point. I'm actually not here to tear it apart and talk about how it didn't live up to standards other people had! I enjoyed it for what it was, and forcing myself to find negative things to say about it doesn't actually bring me more enjoyment of it or reap any benefit to me. Fandom's a double-edged sword; you want to join a community to share your love for a piece of art, and the price you pay for a modicum of joy is a mountain of negativity. that's one main reason that I never engage with fandom until I'm completely done with a show, because if I was plugged into all of that commentary and discourse during the process, I'd be completely colored by how I'm expected to interpret everything this piece of art is presenting to me without being able to even form my own opinions.

Full rant here but it has become a trend saying that Jayvik shippers ruined characters or what? Like yeah, there are some fans that rabid af (and they should be blocked and ignored instead of giving them attention but apparently people love drama too much), but I keep seeing shit like "Sky has been ruined by Jayvik shippers" and I'm there like ???????

Some of the best characterisations I ever saw for her are coming from Jayvik fanfics where they fucking give her a story and personality, and let her stand on her own fucking legs instead of just being there to be a character that appears for barely 5 min of screentime, dies and serves as a fucking element to advance Viktor storyline and that ends there.

Let me repeat it clearly, I'm aware that there are SOME FANS that have absolutely disgusting behaviour and there is no hiding that (I'm also baffled by the audacity of some of these shits), but from there going to "ALL Jayvik shippers are like this" and "people forgets about Sky because Jayvik shippers" is fuckin wild. Like, I'm sorry you all, but outside of HEADCANONS, Sky was barely there in the series. Even in the seconds season we didn't even know if she is actually her or just the Hexcore showing itself through her, and still she's there just to show Viktor change and him loosing his humanity.

I'm sorry to say this because she could have been so much more, but again, she literally serves as a plot element for Viktor story, and that's it. If you wanna be angry with someone complain with the writers who made her like this instead of climbing mirrors

I ran into this post again after watching s2 and I'm kind of impressed how s2 sidestepped any meaningful exploration in the implications of Heimerdinger and Viktor's relationship. Instead the show applies this larger pattern where they have characters sort of address any conflict they may have had through a proxy. With Heimerdinger, his failures with Zaun and Viktor are sort of handwaved through his relationship with Ekko and the Firelights. Once Heimerdinger begins to aid Ekko and the Firelights that's essentially the end of his character arc, thus is his change and nothing else needs to be addressed.

In fact, outside of Heimerdinger's ignorance the show vindicated him about pretty much everything else. He was right about the hexcore. He was right that inherent corruptive nature of magic. And I'm not even trying to uncharitable, but the show said he was right to let Viktor die. There's no way around it. Viktor shouldn't have tried to "fix" himself, he should have just died and saved everyone a lot of trouble.

I don't think we've ever thoroughly unpacked how messed up the way Heimerdinger "comforted" Viktor. The only thing that Heimerdinger could really say is that the "brightest stars burn the fastest", but that's not what's going on here.

Viktor's dying from an unnatural cause!!! He's been poisoned by gas from the mines Piltover excavated in Zaun. This isn't a tragedy caused by random chance, Viktor's condition was done to him by Piltover, by Heimerdinger!

Heimerdinger is essentially comforting his own victim, and he tells Viktor that his death is just the way things are, as if there's no responsible parties involved except fate itself. I wonder if Viktor thought about this himself while Heimerdinger was talking to him. What a truly genuinely awful moment for him to sit through.
