Y'know, we've been experimenting with Noodler's a bit more, and honestly we think that the talk about the smell as a sticking point has been overstated somewhat. We might be biased by our own background, but we think a lot of the reason that it's so overstated is because it's being encountered by people who have never been on a farm before and are unused to the scent.
We like to have opinions on things. This post is on your dashboard for two reasons - one, we've been using this Charlie pen for something like two-three weeks now, and thus have gained enough experience to be comfortable making statements about it, and two, like every review we've seen online and also the one person we talked to about using Noodler's immediately hit us with "oh but the SMELL" and we honestly didn't find it that bad.
We have, for reference, a Noodler's Charlie pen (came free with Baystate Blue), and a few bottles at this point. Noodler's is a brand that, at least for us, stands out due to affordability (guy making them apparently has previously stated that he takes pride in how little money he makes off his ink, and we checked and they're legitimately the cheapest ink even when compared to clearance inks) and the ridiculous amount of properties they bake into inks (waaterproof, forgeryproof, flourescent, "bulletproof", freeze-resistant - there are a good chunk of these that bind to the cellulite in paper, and Baystate Blue specifically is known for staining pens and such). Its pens are made with a vegetal resin that is cheap, biodegradable, and known for its smell. We also had one guy bring up the inks having an odor.
While the pens are where the "smell" note came up most often, we find that it's honestly... less bad than billed? It's noticeable when you put it up to your nose, but leaving it out in sunlight for a few days, as most manufacturers recommend, definitely does make a difference. The immediate smell is best described as putrescent - it reminds us a bit of manure, which is definitely something some people will have less tolerance for. With exposure to sunlight, it mulls into something more akin to a rich fertilizer, which we personally find somewhat pleasant, though YMMV on that.
This pen smells more when it has been used often - body temperature and sweat will get it smelling stronger, and it may stick to your fingers for a few minutes. Putting it down before writing again will get it back to its neutral state - and with the specific pen, doing this every now and then is a good idea anyways, since the Charlie Pen when eyedroppered can have excess flow if the hand's body heat causes the air inside of the pen to expand. This is probably a dealbreaker to some - we don't blame them, if so! This is an acquired taste, for sure, and we feel that a lot of our personal view on this particular manufacturer works the same way as
The chemical smell on inks is something that we'd definitely agree with with some, but not all - we have a sample vial of Noodler's Black Eel, and it has enough surface tension that it acts more like a simulation of a liquid than an actual liquid. It smells sharply artificial, like silicone condensed into a liquid. It is intense and distinctly unnatural and honestly it's a really fun substance to play with partially because of this. Other inks, like Southwest Sunset (3 oz bottle, obtained a few months ago by now), are significantly less... pronounced? There's a chemical smell, but it certainly isn't noticeable unless you stick your nose right up in there. Honestly, we think that unless you're getting a lubricant ink, it's nothing to worry about.
If we paid fifty dollars for this pen, then we might consider these complaints to be... hmm, more significant? The Noodler's Charlie Pen we have was free, and writes better than a $50 pen - and we do mean legitimately free, we checked the price of the ink and it adds nothing to the price to add the pen. Things like Noodler's Flex pens are ten bucks below the next most expensive thing and much prettier. Your mileage may vary, of course - we have a relatively sensitive nose, but we also grew up in the middle of fuckass nowhere and had more than enough time to get used to the smells of livestock and animals, whereas we could easily imagine that someone who didn't grow up on a farm would be shocked and disgusted by the smell. But it's a free pen, we like "biodegradable and sturdy", it functions better than our more expensive ones, and... honestly, we kind of think the resin is worth the price of admission.
This post does not necessarily have a purpose - it is, mostly, us sharing our opinions on something, and you should take it how you will. Most sellers recommend that you leave the pen out in sunlight to sap the smell, and we noticed that it was more or less gone when our of use after about a week and a half of that. Our $0 Charlie pen has a significantly better flow than our $25 Pilot Metropolitan, and a less scratchy nib. We feel like if it works it works - you may want a less strong-smelling pen, or a pen that doesn't need to be left out in sunlight for a week. Though we, of course, can be more than caught up in form, we tend to vastly prefer function over looking fancy, so this has become one of our most well-used pens over the past little bit.
So we aren't just obliterating your dashboard - here's a picture of the moddle, and of our foster kittens serving as our backdrop for our Charlie pen. Do what you will with this information. Also, to our loyal followers, thank you for continuing to attend our blog posts as we slowly descend further into the madness of fountain pens. We refuse to buy anything that costs over $100 without a job and at least a few years sunk into the hobby, but Fountain Pen Day has given us a handful of sales good enough to get spendier pens that would otherwise be out of our price range, so you will probably be hearing about those soon enough.

#we speak#fountain pen#we've worked with things long enough to have opinions on them now and you are going to hear them#anyways we got something like a 75% discount on a pen that would otherwise be absurdly expensive#so now we are just waiting for that to arrive#considering how much of a difference higher-end nibs have made and how INCREDIBLY good our spendier pens are#we are inclined to DEARLY want to check out a gold-nib pen just to see how well it writes#however our hard limit for New Hobbies is “never buy anything more than $100 without at least a year in the hobby”#and we Refuse to grapple with the shipping fees of sending shit out to Fuckass Nowhere more often than we have to#so given the givens theres a good chance we will never get a gold nib#unless the site thats given us VIP Status for our recent fountain pen day activities decides to discount smth by A Lot#we get that it's gold and that these are considered Luxury Items#and we also get the need to invest in quality - as a traditional artist our Really Good supplies are more spendy than we'd like#however we are not fucking spending a hundred and fifteen dollars on a pen

PROMPTS FROM DATE EVERYTHING (PART 1) * assorted dialogue from the 2025 video game, adjust as necessary
i ordered this couch, but it popped, and now my kitchen is all wet and covered with wet stuff.
i need you. i need to care for you. it is the reason for my existence.
do you want to go on a date?
can you tell me how the book made you angry?
your life is about to change. hope you're ready.
let's go on a date right now.
trust me, this is going to go super well.
if everyone were friends, the world would be an awful lot safer in my opinion.
i've seen the complications of love. i've lived through the jealous quarrels of hate.
the true bond is one between two friends with none of the intricacies of romantic tension.
i like it much better up here where i can see your face.
hey there, stranger.
we've been sleeping together so many years, it would be a little weird if you didn't know me, don't you think?
it's a shame for someone as cute as you to be alone for so long, isn't it?
will you be bringing someone back here anytime soon?
i do hope you'll come talk to me. it'd be nice to finally get to know each other.
you've caught me at a strange time.
that's okay. i like being naked.
why are you here? what are you doing?
please, please... i'm not ready. not like this.
i've dreamed of this, of meeting you, finally... and now the moment is here, i... i just can't. not yet.
honestly, that's a objectively terrible password.
i get chills just thinking about it.
i would love to answer that for you, but the knowledge would no doubt drive you to madness.
can i be honest about something?
it's just that... before today, i had all these needs, but i couldn't articulate them to anyone.
you're quite the looker, aren't you?
i have had enough attention on me, thank you very much.
i can't say i'm looking for anything too serious right now.
i just want to see you live a little, that's all! stop watching life pass you by! enjoy yourself! kiss someone! kiss many someones!
my senses are heightened when i'm in a mood.
the physical connection between him and me... it is like nothing i have known before or since.
thank you, sincerely, for listening.
you're serious? you're not fucking with me?
do you, like me, enjoy celebrating at the altar of your own glorious form?
i knew i could count on you.
are you as excited as i am?
you are radiant.
i was thinking we could visit some very naughty websites together.
honestly, you're being super disrespectful.
we'll have to work on that enthusiasm.
get out. i've got work to do.
what brings you to the call of night?
i have been waiting in the abyss in search of a companion.
you? i always thought of you as a companion, someone who followed me around and gave me advice. cute, but expendable.
do you enjoy coming here?
i assume you brought your tools and knowledge and... probably a snack of some sort?
i am beside myself with happiness.
what can i do for you?
today was supposed to be my day off.
how much do you think about me?
for you, there is almost nothing i wouldn't do to help you relax.
to know that i'm giving you precisely the thing you want at that moment... oh, it fulfills me. it makes me whole.
as soon as i fulfill your command, your desire, i become the one with the power.
sometimes i cannot resist playing your sensation. just a bit. i am a craftsman and you are my clay.
now i have truly said too much.
i'd be lying if i said i wasn't just a little bit sweet on you.
hold onto me real tight.

hi! i was talking about build a bear to a friend and just remembered they used to have animatronics (? if they count as those?) at the entrance (this article has an image: https://clarksvillenow.com/local/build-a-bear-workshop-comes-to-clarksville/ but you can just look up ‘build a bear entrance’ and find some, they simply move their arms a bit from what i remember)
i haven’t really seen any close up pictures or anyone documenting where they are now if they got rid of them all so i thought i’d ask around :o
Ok so funnily enough, I (Mod Possum) WORK at a Build-A-Bear Workshop, so this is right up my alley, lol!!
So, what anon is talking about is our little bear buddy (his name is Bearnard, not to be confused with another mascot of ours by the name of Bearemy) that sits in front of some of our store windows! Our store still has one, and he's still functional!

Here's a couple of pictures from outside of our store! Our store hasn't changed much since it opened, so we've still got what's called the "Heritage Store" look! Heritage Stores are the ones that look like we did back when we opened in '97-- a color scheme of primary colors, prominent theming to make you feel like you're really building a teddy bear (bear bins that look like spools of thread, stickers on bins that make it look like stitching, gears on the wall, et cetera), and so forth. It's a very cozy atmosphere compared to what many Build-A-Bears look like now.

This ^^^ is what our Discovery Stores look like. Not nearly as whimsical or fun as our Heritage Stores, right? It just feels cold and sterile in comparison, but that's just my opinion, haha!
Maxine Clark is the founder of BABW, and was the CEO for many years. However, she stepped down as CEO in 2013, and that was when the company's vision for our stores began to change. Sharon Price John took over as CEO, and her way of doing things was a lot more business-driven rather than fun-driven, at least in my personal opinion.
June 4th of 2015, only two years into Sharon Price John's tenure, was the first announcement of the Discovery Store that I could find online. There wasn't much to be said about it in the article I read since that wasn't the basis for the article, but it said that the first Discovery Store would be opening in Utah later that year.
Maxine Clark's way of operating her business was a lot more whimsical than Price John's, but it didn't really amount to a profitable business, focused more on bringing an experience to the world than being a true business. When Price John took over, the company became infinitely more corporate than it was under Clark's reign.
Over time, more and more of our stores have been converted to Discovery Stores, and although we're more profitable than we once were, I can't help but wonder at what expense. My opinon's not important to the topic at hand, I know, lol, but what that means is that the friendly little Bearnard animatronics have been disappearing one by one, since they don't reuse them for the Discovery Stores.
As to where they've all gone... I truly have no idea. I would assume it's a "destroy this prop as it will not be used again" situation. I've gotten some items from a former Heritage Store turned Discovery that they held onto for a while before our DM told the store to "get rid of them" (iirc he told the managers of that store that he didn't really care where they went as long as they were gone), so it's not out of the realm of possibility that some may have survived, but due to how unwieldy it would be to transport these figures, I also wouldn't be surprised if it was just easier to trash them.
The figures have VERY limited movement. With ours, he just tilts his head from side to side on repeat, all day, every day. Some stores, like pictured below, had two figures rather than our store's single figure, so I don't know what movement, if any, the bear in the tutu (presumably Bearnice, another of our characters, lol) has. I would guess that she also tilted her head back and forth, but I can't say for sure, since it's not clear in the photo and it's been quite a while since I have seen a store with two of the figures.
It's a shame that these figures are going the way of the dodo. They may be incredibly simplistic figures, but I do enjoy how whimsical they are!
If anyone has any more information about our little storefront friends, I would LOVE to hear it! I'll try and consult with my other employee friends (shoutout to the BAB subreddit for connecting us!) and see what they have to say. I'll report back if they have anything interesting to say!

Here’s a bunch of stuff in the MM Tales of the TMNT comic-con sneak-peek I thought about too much!

They’ve cared so much about showing how differently they each react to and process the same situation.

Through the scene Raph is excited to tear things up and true to every iteration ever tries things his way until it doesn’t work, Don’s flight response pings into analyst mode and you just know he’s figuring out how to break stuff, Mike is thriving in team-mode and keeping them all on track, and Leo flails around like a giant ball of chronic anxiety before figuring out a plan. They’re original formula with gently new toppings and I’m ready for this slice.
Raphael

This guy! We get so much. He’s rearing to do some fighting that isn’t sparring and be free to do some actual damage. So we know he’s bored fighting is brothers and wants a challenge. He can’t handle this one and in figuring that out is “open to suggestions” which is quite the overlooked Raph quality, he’ll listen he just has to work through that impulsive reactive streak first. He’s strong and knows it, and that robot gets a harder fight. The Raph highlight for me was taking time while fighting to honour the time-old tradition of making fun of Michelangelo. <Sobs in last ronin.>
Donatello

This kid, man! It’s a long standing opinion of mine that everyone should be more scared of Donatello. His interest in understanding the threat overrides most of his fear. Cerebral af. This is his face most of the time while a robot programmed to obliterate him is directly behind him. On the surface it looks like he’s running away a lot, but he can’t exactly press pause on it to figure out how they work. His gentle heart characterisation is well intact, apologising to the robot when he damages it having already personified the thing. I honestly believe he would take it home like he’d found a new pet if that were an option.
Michelangelo

What a show of Mikey magic. He’s got the comedy relief on a casual setting with subtle jokes and unintentionally antagonistic observation style. Mike has a tiny attention span but is 100% in every moment and they draw a lot of attention to his speed and agility. He shines doing what Mikey is known so well for; keeping the family together. It was awesome to see him effectively orienting his brothers into the situation, and see them listen to him so readily. He still calls to Leo for guidance when he feels out of control, but we might be in for a more surprising personal arc than ~nobody takes me seriously~ this time around.
Leonardo

This is a blessing for Leo fans because MM Tales Leo sucks /srs. Not in the way Raph fans say it on Instagram posts, in the way that his flaws are so disparate from other versions that a mastery arc is screaming his nervous muppet name. The giftedness is still sewn in; even flailing around he has more advanced weapon control, is observant enough to be the right level of stressed when a threat shows up, and jumps into strategy finding a vantage point to make a plan like a good little Leo, but instead of our usual Leo trauma ball we (at least for now) get to watch a Leo with the confidence of a processed cheese slice be terrible at things because he’s just some kid…

Pfffffffahahhhahhahba
The Mutant Mayhem kids are the most realistically green (and by that I mean inexperienced) we've ever seen them and it's continued into Tales. With detaching from source origin and establishing a much more grounded reflection of teen life in the current world, the growth arcs over Tales and the next MM movie have such immense unburdened potential that it really could lead anywhere and I don’t know what to expect.
(Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will air in August 9th 2024 on Paramount+)

i think my biggest critique of the first arc was the ferrix crew storyline. i didn't really feel like we spent enough time with them, and on a personal level with the characters (namely bix, brasso, and wilmon, less about cassian in this case), where they are now, how they feel about that, i felt like it was missing something.
(quick disclaimer that i've only watched the episodes once; my opinion might change upon a rewatch and upon seeing the rest of the season, but for now this is my first-viewing takeaway.)
it felt a bit like the writing sacrificed getting deep and personal with our ferrixians in exchange for pushing the discussion about them being illegal workers/immigration/etc. we've obviously got some very real world parallels with the discussions around illegal workers, and important discussions at that, but it would have been nice to hear from bix, brasso, and wilmon how they feel about being forced to leave ferrix. what does it mean for them to live somewhere that's not their home? it would've been nice to hear them mention jezzi or any of the other ferrixians, and how they wish they could speak with someone back home to see how things are. i think the serious topic of immigration and illegal work would've hit harder if we'd gotten to see first-hand how these displaced characters are feeling.
i also wish we had gotten to see the three of them (four counting bee) interact with each other more, especially in the lead up to brasso's death. again, i felt like we sacrificed seeing the bond that bix, brasso, and wil have with each other to make room for them interacting with new characters, namely talia and beela. (nothing against her) but i didn't really see the point to talia's character, other than having a friendly face to leave bee with at the end (even though they could've left him with beela). this show has done an incredible job in the past at making me care about a brand new character in about 2 minutes flat (see even the beginning of 2x01 with niya's introduction), but i don't think that thought and care was put into talia. i didn't get a sense of her personality at all, and it felt like she was just there to be there. they could've still had her there, and just made her friends with the ferrix crew. but i didn't really get much out of her and brasso being an item. (i actually thought brasso's friendship with kellen had more depth, so we could've just focused on that instead, if they wanted to establish that the ferrix crew had a foothold in the community.)
beela had only a bit more personality, but not much. i think the connection between her and wilmon could have been more interesting, and could have had more depth, even in a short amount of time. if we'd gotten a better chance to understand why wilmon is drawn to her and her to him, it would've made him running off to her when they're getting ready to leave more understandable. and then the consequences of him leaving to see her, causing brasso to go after him and get caught in the stormtroopers' crossfire, would have hit harder.
and as for brasso's death, i predicted that he would die in this first arc, so that wasn't surprising. but it was a real blink and you miss it death, which felt a little odd. (*i* missed it anyway; idk about anyone else, but i didn't even realize he'd gotten hit until cassian saw his speeder crashed and smoking.) we've had very quick sudden deaths before (look at most of the aldhani crew) but this felt so distant compared to how beloved brasso is. and considering that we didn't get that much screen time with him before it happened, i really was just left wishing for something more from the whole ferrix crew's storyline before they lost brasso.
i hope we get to talk about brasso and ferrix more in future episodes, since bix and wilmon (and cassian, of course) are still around. but it does make me a little nervous about these year-long time jumps.
#i really was hoping for more from this storyline. i would've liked to learn more about the rau city. more about how they've settled in#i feel like they didn't go quite as in depth with this storyline as they could've. or took as much time with it as they have in the past#i just want to know more#andor spoilers#brasso#bix caleen#wilmon paak#andor#andor season 2

A Doylist Argument for Why Alice, Daniel's first wife, is NOT Armand in "Interview with the Vampire"
So I know the IWTV fandom has more or less made up its mind about "Armand = Alice" but I have to say, I am still not convinced. In my opinion, the discussion of how Armand knew what Alice was thinking that night was because Armand was spying on Daniel and Alice as a powerful telepath, all things we've known Armand to do, not because he was somehow Daniel's first wife and at no point did Daniel, an investigative reporter, in the present day recognize that Armand was Alice, his first wife who he would presumably have photos of.
Anyway, let's start from a Doylist angle. Doylist means, "from the creator perspective, analyzing from the point of view as the work of art as something created by people outside the universe of the story, ie, Arthur Conan Doyle wrote Sherlock Holmes, not John Watson who wrote the book in-universe."
First of all, it's pretty unusual for a show to outright lie to the audience. There used to be a whole script writing rule about it and if you look closely, it's very unusual in most TV shows for a character to outright lie unless the story is a mystery and unless the fact they're lying is well supported as being something the audience should be on the lookout for. But even when characters lie on tv, there's usually a bazillion neon signposts going, "The guy twirling his mustache and cackling is a liar!" and we're usually introduced to the actual truth at some point within the story.
Ok, all of that aside because I could talk about when and how and where and the nuances of writing liars into stories and why it's best generally avoided (unless it is the entire point, because audiences tend to take what they're told by a character at face value unless they're specifically told not to, etc etc.), IWTV by contrast with most tv shows is notorious for playing with lies and truth with this in very interesting ways.
Truly, I don't think I've ever seen a show lie to the audience as much as IWTV but even then, IWTV lies in very careful ways.
So, let's examine how IWTV depicts lies and subjective truth, and why I think this makes it unlikely that "Alice = Armand", which would be an absolutely gigantic lie to drop on the audience.
We always know that lies are going to be part of the story in IWTV. There's tons of support and scaffolding to the fact that the audience should know that this is a subjective story, that facts will be misrepresented and misremembered.
For example, it was an entire plot point with a long pay off that Lestat shouldn't have been able to communicate telepathically to Louis after he was turned and it was used to highlight that we should not take anything that happens in the flashbacks as objective truth. This has been told to us over and over and over again in this story.
This is so they can avoid the cheated feeling of a, "Gotcha!" Audiences do not like to be lied to but they do like to solve mysteries. If you're going to lie to the audience, you need to give them a chance to solve it. Generally speaking you accomplish this by telling them ahead of time what they should be looking out for and that there's a mystery incoming, you don't just "Rocks fall, everyone dies," dump it on them out of nowhere then laugh that they were too stupid to figure it out. That enrages audiences.
Now, it might seem like I'm contradicting myself here. "Avelera!" You might say, "We have it well established that something fucky is going on with Daniel's memories! A big red flag was raised that Armand has messed with Daniel too in the flashback to the 70s! We know from the books that Daniel and Armand had a relationship and the show is at least teasing that they had one in the show canon too! Isn't that enough to establish that Alice = Armand is a reasonable mystery that is being hinted at within the context of the story?"
And to this I answer, sure, it's reasonable. I think the number of people who are speculating that Alice = Armand is actually a point in favor of it being true, because a good established mystery should have enough hints that people can begin to put it together before it's confirmed.
But here are my personal hang ups about why it still doesn't feel quite right to me.
We have the fact that Daniel has ruined two marriages. This is set up early. Like, super early, in episode 1, before we even see the vampires. We also establish that Daniel's two marriages are with (presumably mortal) women and that he has 2 daughters. This is set up long before the themes and ideas around the subjectiveness and falsehood of memory are introduced. Generally speaking, you don't introduce a mystery before you introduce that there is a mystery. To my eyes, we were meant to see the details of Daniel's marriage and family life as objective truths about him that inform his character before the interview starts.
Even when we do get into Louis' interview, there is a strict dichotomy to the dreamy, subjective world of Louis' story and recollection, and the sharp reality and harsh brutalist lines of the apartment in the present day.
To my eyes, the meaning is clear: All flashbacks are suspect and subjective, but scenes that take place in the modern day are objective. They are really happening. We can speculate about what things like what the decor tells us about their mindsets and the way Armand and Louis present themselves to Daniel mean, but this isn't a dream or a lie or a framing device happening here. Modern day = objectively true.
Daniel talking about his two failed marriages and his daughters is not presented within the framework of the subjective interview flashback world. These are not facts we've been asked to question, these are the objective building blocks that tell us, objectively, where Daniel is coming from and why he's the bitter old man we see instead of the bright eyed interviewer seen in the IWTV film or books.
The very AU premise of IWTV from the books is that we are in a canon divergence world where Daniel was allowed to grow old, have a family, and have a successful professional life even if he never had a successful personal life. It is the way we are objectively meant to understand his point of view and other elements like his saltiness towards the vampires. It's how we're supposed to understand him as different from his book counterpart. I think it would be cheap to then pull a "gotcha!" about those, personally.
Now, there is a mystery introduced as far as Daniel's memory, recollection, and possible falsehoods in his own understanding of his life but those are questions like: "What happened after Daniel interviewed Louis the first time?" Which is part of the broader question of, "Why are we returning to the interview now?" Which also plays a bit into Daniel's broader questions of, "Am I going to survive this interview?" which is connected to the question of, "Why did I survive the first one?"
But those questions are generally raised and addressed within the flashback to the 70s, because flashbacks, as we've established, are (within the story of the IWTV show) where these doubts about objectivity are allowed to exist.
Note, that Daniel's 2 marriages and the existence of his daughters are not discussed in the flashbacks. What is discussed is, "Why did I survive that night in the 70s?" And we learn that Daniel's memories of that time have been tampered with, there's more to the story that it appears, and he had a moment of connection with Armand that he did not recall.
"But Avelera!" You say, "Is this not further proof of Alice being Armand if we establish that Daniel doesn't have the whole story and that he and Armand had a connection that he doesn't fully remember??"
I think it is a point in favor of the theory. I think it's a point in favor of the theory being a valid one to explore, but I'm still not sold because of a few reasons.
Armand has never:
Presented himself with feminine pronouns, never cast himself in a feminine light, never associated himself with the feminine.
Furthermore, Armand has never disguised himself as a woman. Disguise is a theme in the show, Daniel talks about how people put on disguises before he finds the truth of them. But if "Alice" is a way for Armand to disguise himself in Daniel's memory, it is not a disguise that bears any resemblance to the other disguises we've seen Armand wear throughout the show. It is not a theme for Armand, it is not related to his story. Armand is many things to many people, but he's never ever associated himself with the feminine.
Armand would not need to disguise himself as a woman in Daniel's memory for Daniel to plausibly remember having a relationship with Armand, because Daniel recalls having queer experiences in the 70s. If Daniel remembered a relationship with "Andrei", I'd be more inclined to believe he's substituted himself in Daniel's memories with a mortal. Going so far as to say, "Of these 2 women Daniel told us in the objective present that he's been married to, one of them was a man who was also Armand," just seems a bridge too far in tricking the audience for no apparent reason. To me, that feels like a cheap trick on the audience.
Now, what about those weird things Louis and Armand say about Alice when they're shaming Daniel with the memory of her?
Specifically: what about Armand knowing what Alice is thinking the night she turned Daniel down?
This is my biggest point of difference with those who theorize that Alice = Armand. After all, how could Armand know what Alice was thinking that night unless he was Alice?
To put it simply, I think he knows because he was stalking Daniel that night.
I think we are meant to go, "Wait, what??" when we hear that Armand knows what Alice was thinking that night. That conversation is mean to be a red flag when we're invited to notice that Armand and Daniel have more history together than we, or Daniel!, have been led to believe.
But we also know Armand is a powerful telepath. This is a hugetheme throughout the show.
And, personally, I'm big fan of Queen of the Damned the book. It is my personal theory that IWTV the show takes place in a world where Armand and Daniel had their "Devil's Minion" whirlwind romance in the 70s, but instead of Armand turning Daniel as he requested, he wiped Daniel's memories and then let him go.
IMO, Daniel continued life thinking that he'd lost his memories of the 70s due to drug binges, and then from the 80s onward lived a relatively normal life with his two failed marriages to mortal women, his two daughters, and his award winning career. That's the divergence point.
To me, it seems much more plausible based on everything we know about Armand, that after he "freed" Daniel from their relationship and "allowed" him to live a mortal life instead of "cursing" him with vampirism, that Armand continued to stalk Daniel. Because that's what Armand does. Even in the Devil's Minion chapter of QotD, he's constantly stalking Daniel to the point where all Daniel needs to do in a particular city to have Armand swoop in to save him is think about him really hard.
So to me, what I think that line of dialogue was setting up was not "Armand = Alice" it was, "Armand continued to stalk Daniel after their relationship ended and that is the red flag you're supposed to pick up on from this dialogue, not a convoluted masquerade where Armand replaced Daniel's memories of the relationship with a woman named Alice who at first rejected Daniel but then eventually agreed to marry him."
To me, Armand = Alice just seems too convoluted. It also seems too easy to disprove given that Daniel is an investigative reporter. You're telling me he doesn't have any photos with "Alice", his first wife? You're telling me that if Armand was Alice, Daniel's first wife, that he never looked at "Rashid" or Armand and said, "Wow, you remind me of you my first wife?" Because to me, that's the sort of line you drop (in a more subtle manner) if you want people thinking about Alice = Armand but there is nothing along those lines in the show.
Now, what about the line, "You felt safer holding her hand in Paris."?
That one is a bit of a head scratcher. That one I think does lend to the possibility that "Alice" was male, that "Alice" was Armand, because Paris is discussed as more queer friendly (even though we also have scenes of Louis and Armand receiving homophobic comments while in Paris so... idk, "more comfortable" doesn't mean it was truly accepting, much like Louis felt "more comfortable" being a man of color in Paris even if racism was still rampant, but I digress).
But I didn't take it as a comment on Paris being queer-friendly (and therefore Armand = Alice) at the time when I first watched that scene.
I took Louis statement there as much more of an attack on Daniel's hatred of Paris. Paris is the city of love. America is the country where Daniel lives and works and has his identity as a hard-ass American reporter. In Paris, though, he was able to relax and be in love, far away from his work. Daniel has now grown to hate Paris because Paris was the place where he was young and in love with his first wife, a relationship that ended badly.
I felt that Louis was more calling out Daniel's changing attitudes towards Paris, rather than implying that Paris was more queer-friendly so Daniel could be openly with his lover Armand.
TL;DR: Look, I think the theory of Alice = Armand has a lot to recommend it, but I still have my objections to it. I think it's too big of a trick to pull on the audience to say that investigative reporter Daniel Molloy wouldn't recognize Armand as his first wife upon seeing him. I think it's too big of a trick to pull on the audience because the identity of Daniel's wives has never been presented as a mystery to be solved. I think it's much more plausible that they were setting up that Armand has been stalking Daniel very closely over the years, not that he insinuated himself into Daniel's life under false premises as a woman, a disguise and identity he's never used before.
I think Alice is real. I think Armand is a stalker, and that was meant to be our take away from that conversation.

hiii i was wondering if you could do platonic Mel x reader headcanons? (like theyre friends and reader is on the council???)
thank youu and have a lovely day💗
omggg thank you! i always worry that everyone skips the mel sections. there is not nearly enough love for her, and she is literally my fav character
Contrary to popular belief, Mel is not a cold person in the slightest. She is certainly a bit hesitant to affection and softness, but it isn't unwelcome. When she first arrived in Piltover, freshly cast out by her own mother for her aversion to violence, she is very off balance. You don't become the richest person in Piltover in such a short period of time by being friendly, wealth is won through strategic kindness and an ability to play the long game.
It would be hard to crack that exterior at first, partially because she expects that everyone else is playing the same game she is. She thinks that the friendship is less soft and more professionally symbiotic. You scratch her back, she scratches yours kinda thing. And it's no reflection of who she thinks you are, she's not even aiming to form any personal judgements or get to know you outside of work, but politics is a performance. How genuinely you play your role is of little importance to her, as long as it benefits you both.
This being said, you are far more tolerable than the rest of them. Besides actually being her age, she respects the approach you have, you are always forthright with your goals, even if the plans you have to achieve them are under the table. You're consistent and she appreciates this. Though she understands the charade of smiles and civility, she knows that most of these people don't care about much other than keeping things exactly the way they are.
Early on in her journey in Piltover she doesn't care much about the fate of the Zaunites, this isn't her home, and that instability is one she is largely ignorant to and doesn't believe it's her responsibility to fix. She does want change. Is this desire to make waves to prove a point to her mother overseas, initially yes, but the point still stands that she wants to do something. That may be what she likes about you most. Not only that you want change, but you want it for yourself. You are here to represent your family, but you are so much more than a name. She admires that you want a legacy of your own, that your morals are your own, that your goals work toward a vision that you dreamt.
While she has Elora to remind her of home, she has you to help build her future in Piltover and figure out what she actually wants. As she warms up to you, you have somewhat of a mentor/apprentice type relationship, though far less formal. Besides teaching her of the culture, what happens in the Undercity, and your personal thoughts and opinions on the cycles of violence, you learn about Noxus. You learn about all the places she'd want to take you to, the difference in politics, how much more aggressive it is.
Mel is someone who usually keeps a calm and cool exterior but being friends with you allows her to break it down. Especially after days where she begins to wonder what she's even doing here, days where she just feels like a pawn still being moved around the board by her mother. She's good at the politics, but it's tiresome, still having to constantly play by someone else's rules. It dawns on her when you are the only person she can think of while sobbing alone in her all to big room that maybe you aren't just some work acquaintance.
Now that the very long introduction is out of the way, Mel is such a hugger. She is very physically affectionate; it's her way of catching up on all she missed out with her mom. She's the type to cradle your head in her hands and rub your back
She is also the 'break up with your boyfriend' friend. If your partner is not giving you what you deserve, she really doesn't see the point in continuing the relationship. She is truly baffled by the excuse 'but we've been together for x years, I can't leave them'. YES YOU CAN! AND YOU SHOULD! People are replaceable, she does not believe in remaining in the company of those you don't like, especially if it doesn't benefit you.
She was also robbed of a traditional sort of girlhood, so she adores those kinds of hangouts. So many sleepovers, except instead of junk food and soda, its wine and fancy charcuterie boards. Self-care nights involve super expensive skincare and a terrible movie playing. If you two get drunk enough, you may even get into a pillow fight and leave the room covered in down feathers and empty satin pillow covers.
Assuming she's still dating Jayce, you definitely know a bit too much about him. It's very hard looking him in the eye after being told about the time she caught him shirtless in a stupid pair of heart covered boxers.
She gifted you one of her paintings for your birthday one year and almost cried when you started crying. Her art was always more of a hobby to air out her big emotions and her heart practically bursts with happiness every time you enter a room. You hang it right over your bed for protection in your dreams and it makes her beam with pride that you love it so much.
She is also such a good gift giver in general. I think she'd be super into journaling and would have like a million of those things, one of them dedicated to her friends and their interests.
Speaking of her journals, I think she'd have one for different goals. For example, one for all the books she wants to read for the year and dedicated pages to rank them and give her opinions. Maybe one for all the places she wants to visit one day. You two would totally swap books and have a friendly competition with your reading goals

omg girl what is happening with nicholas right now ?? i’ve heard so much about NDAs and whatnot and i have no idea where to start to unpack this 😭
first off, check out this post from @cranberrydietcoke since we've had a real long convo here about this whole situation.
now, babe...where do i start...
there's this bald guy on tiktok (i won't tell you the username because i have him blocked — he's just so annoying) that started a whole nicholas hate train. apparently, a lot of girls have been reaching out to him saying nicholas was texting them in november/this month (there is no proof whatsoever — just screenshots with no dates that can easily be manipulated or can be from any time tbh).
this one girl, i think julia was her name, has started posting tiktoks related to nicholas — tbh her whole personality is that he has been "allegedly" texting her. she said that nicholas has been talking about victoria, but for "legal reasons" she doesn't want to show screenshots. so basically she just started a whole god damn hate train to back off when she got too much attention — sorry shawty, that's NOT how it works.
the bald tiktok guy has made a million tiktok's about nicholas. to me? he's literally obsessed. he has been talking about him non stop, saying there's been a lot of girls reaching out and that he has a lot of "proof" of nac cheating on victoria, but he doesn't want to talk about his sources. so there's basically no proof — only the screenshots, that, as i mentioned, could so easily be manipulated.
also, when it comes to that bald guy — i heard that he was a nicholas fan a month ago or so, i don't know if that's true tho.
julia has claimed that nicholas wanted to fly her out to usa so that they could be together. which doesn't really make any sense, but anyway. 🤫
also there's been speculations going around that nicholas made victoria sign an NDA so that she can't talk about their relationship or him now or if they break up. victoria and her friends then started replying to comments on twitter saying that none of this is true. her annoyance is so valid because why do random people online get their noses in THEIR relationship?
nicholas is rich, famous and hot so if he didn't want vicky here — she WOULDN'T BE HERE. people need to start using their brains, simple as that. everyone tries to paint him as a bad guy for some weird reason.
nicholas' team needs to walk in because this whole thing isn't making his reputation any better 😭
also a reminder that nicholas' relationship is none of our business even though we are allowed to dislike his gf.
i'd love to hear your opinions because this whole thing is so weird to me 😭 i hope i explained it well enough 4 u

in your opinion, how much does Ford toxic relationship with Bill have affected the way he enters a friendship and then a romantic relationship?
Their relationship, whether you think it's platonic or there was something of deeper feelings (one sided or mutual), it was unequivocally abusive in nature and incredibly intense because of how intertwined they were on a mental and physical level, considering bill could possess him. There is no doubt going to affect Ford in future relationships because he suffered literal torture and was basically held hostage by Bill, in a way, so for me it is something I really want to consider when it comes to writing Ford and a potential obstacle for him in getting into relationships of any kind in the future. I think sometimes we don't talk enough about how much abuse Ford went through and how emotionally manipulative and coercive ford and bill's relationship was, knowing what we know now for definite now we have tbob and this is not a website information.
In my mind Bill was essentially a narcissistic abuser (as much as that label can fit an interdimensional nightmare triangle being), such kind of abuse can take quite a while to process and work through, you can end up weirdly missing the person on one hand and on the other feel no ties to them at all when their gone on the other. We've already read that Ford has some apprehension/anxiety over bill's statue, which Mabel has comforted him over to give him some closure. The big thing about Ford is that post weirdmageddon, he no longer has a 'mission' and can set aside his feelings and has to confront his growth to complete his character arc, because he's no longer able to run from it. This means that post weirdmageddon he has to confront and then process all that happened to him with bill, fully, with no distractions or need for revenge against him. Ford is going to be affected by healing all of this, so I feel in general, it would affect his relationships. I think once he's able to make a connection with someone it won't take him too long to know it's not in any way a similar situation as the one he had with bill, but he still has residual nightmares (from ptsd) and it has been a big chunk of his life, so it's something that he can't really conceal but also something he wants to protect you from, he doesn't want it to be your burden when he gets into a romantic relationship. He has the support of his family though, who will always offer their words of advice. He's also confident in that he doesn't want to be with someone romantically without being fully honest with them, either, it just takes him a little while to open up. Meeting him with patience and understanding will help to ease his worries.
Sorry, I've probably repeated myself a lot here 😅 but TL;DR - it will affect Ford a fair amount and for a long amount of time but I don't think it would severely impact any of his relationships, it just means it'll take some time for him to open up in the first place.

gimme ur dream bbq theories
RIGHT! (long post, put a cut for convenience. inor spoilers for some smaller details)
FIRST AND FOREMOST:
ENA (in my opinion) IS NOT AN ENTIRE SPECIES. while understandable, i personally think this is dumb :') it really minimizes her character as a whole. though, i do not disagree with the fact that there are multiple of her. think back to what the shaman says the first time we meet him:
"one person can be in two places at once"
given multiple other things, like the easter egg in the webseries that says "FORGET YOUR PAST," the plane like things in the starting area along with the siren like ambience' in an urban/suburban-like setting, and Meanies little meltdown when talking to the vendor man ("WAIT! I'M NOT DOING WHAT YOU SAY I'M DOING!) with the bullet rain and wasteland-like area, it's led me to believe that ENA herself was once one whole person. each little split persona ENA we see show two minuscule facets of her personality. we've got the happy and the sad, the customer service voice and the one who's had enough of retail-hell bullshit.
yes, there are multiple of her. yes, they exist semi-simultaneously. No, they are not a species. They are parts of a single whole, fractured by some sort of intensely traumatic event. perhaps a war of some kind if the planes, sirens, and bullet rain are more than just abstract artistic choices meant to darken the tone of the game at certain times. I'm unsure whether this is some digital circus "TRAPPED IN THE GAME!" or something more along the likes of u m a m i's Interface and SAFE MODE, where uploading ones consciousness to a digital interface was seen as the only means of survival in an increasingly uninhabitable world. or perhaps this is simply what the world looks like for them now.
to elaborate on existing semi-simultaneously, it's important to note the fact that our familiar blue/yellow ENA shows up for a split second in the end credits scene. whether they're swapping physical location, or simply replacing the others existence is unclear.
THEORY NUMBER TWO!
While not directly related, i do believe that The Great Runas from Temptation Stairway is/was a genie. given that he's revered like some sort of godly figure, and has the ability to grant wishes, it seems obvious now that we have a name for what these deities are.
stemming from this, it's worth noting that the area we end up in after the Lonely Door begins to close appears to be the very same place as where Auction Day takes place. same cube face rock in the sky! potentially Temptation stairway as well, though the specifics aren't as clear there.
so, as for the significance of this... I'm really not sure. some of it depends on where Power of Potluck takes place timeline wise. if these are in fact in chronological order, this doesn't work at all. but if its a one off set in-between/before extinction party, auction day, and temptation stairway, oh boy.
i believe that it was the closing of whatever door powered the world ENA and Moony resided in for AD and TS that triggered the emergence of Dream BBQ ENA as we know her. the place became closed off, simply ceased to exist after the door closed, and ENA ended up changing drastically to combat it and escape. Froggy cites her "salesperson tricks" that she uses to get out of "predicaments," perhaps this version of her has some form of dimensional transport between whatever these doors are. personally I'm leaning towards a pocket dimension type deal but there's really no way to know.
THIRD, FINAL, and FAR LESS SERIOUS THEORY
when you think about it the purge route of Dream BBQ is really ENA:
joking(?) about killing their boss with a coworker
catching a taxi to an illegal party
having a BAD trip
making it to the bathroom
smashing someones bong because the smoke was bothering the aforementioned coworker
#my posts#my theories#my analysis#ena#ena joel g#ena dream bbq#ena: dream bbq#joel g#joel g ena#joel guerra#sorry for the long post lol#this is what ive got as of rn#lmk if you have questions!

Just remembered that Professor Agasa is Jii's inventor friend who helps with Kid's gadgets so Shinichi and Kaito have another connection. It would be hilarious if Shiho/Ai figured it out first because of this, I think Kaito would get along great with her and the Professor.
I've thought about this before.
Jii is a close friend of Agasa, I don't doubt that maybe Agasa even knows that Jii works for KID but chooses to ignore it.
However, we all know how much he cares about Ai, I imagine that at some point they had a conversation about that along the lines of:
"We've been friends for a long time, I know you're a good person, but I also know that you work for KID."
Jii doesn't look at him, he just takes a sip of his drink. They never talk about it, it's a not-so-secret secret between them, Jii always hinted at it, but Agasa never seemed to care. He doesn't think he's going to turn them in, so he waits for him to continue.
"I have a daughter, not biological obviously, she's suffered a lot, bad, very bad people are after her, I'm afraid I won't be able to protect her."
"Do you want him to investigate them?"
"No, it's very dangerous, and I wouldn't put a friend's family in danger for mine, just… if one day that girl comes here without me, do you think they can hide her? She's my family, and I know she'll be perfectly hidden with someone as skilled with disguises as KID."
"Knowing my master, I don't think he'll reject you, and I won't either, however, I'm sure he'll want to meet her."
"I think it would be good to make proper introductions, I want her to know where to go if she needs it." It makes a lot of sense to me that Agasa would want to hide Ai away if things went too bad, and what better place to hide than with someone he has no "relationship" with?
I can see Jii explaining the situation to Kaito, and being the kind person he is, agreeing to help them out. And he's also thrilled at the idea of meeting the inventor of his gadgets! Kaito has so many questions! He might even ask him for suggestions for his card gun and his opinion on it.
In Ai's case, I feel like Agasa makes her a hot drink and they sit alone talking in the middle of the night when Conan isn't around and the kids are in their own homes.
"Why did you need to talk to me alone?"
"I want to introduce you to my bartender friend and his grandson."
"Just me? Why?"
Agasa takes Ai's hands, more to comfort himself than her.
"I may not say it as often as I should, but you are important to me, we don't know what will happen to the organization in the future, so if things get bad enough that I can't stay by your side, I want you to have somewhere to go, I don't want you to be alone again and I'm worried about your safety."
Haibara would stay silent, what Agasa says makes a lot of sense, but she has a lot of thoughts in her head. A part of her feels touched, she never thought she could have a family again, and on the other hand she is worried about the uncertain future that awaits them.
For now, all she can do is give him a hug, he's not a person who usually shows affection, but with the two of them being the only ones there, she gives herself the opportunity to do so.
"Wouldn't it be dangerous for them if that were to happen?"
"My friend's grandson is very good at disguises, I hope that with him they would never be able to find you, and also that almost no one knows my connection with them, it makes it the perfect place to hide."
"You thought a lot about it."
"I want you to be safe."
Kaito immediately recognizes Haibara, and also Agasa, they are friends of Conan.
The first thing Agasa says in this situation is that Ai must not tell Shinichi about this unless this situation becomes too dangerous.
Haibara did not think that the professor's friend would work with KID, nor that the latter would use the professor's inventions, she thinks it is very funny.
While Agasa and Jii talk, Haibara and KID get to know each other.
KID: I'm surprised that you chose to stay, I thought you would leave as soon as you found out who I am.
Haibara: You don't care about my secret, so I don't care about yours.
KID: Don't you think I'm suspicious? That my assistant and I are?
Haibara: You can't expect me to trust you right away, but Professor Agasa does, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but don't expect mercy from me if you end up getting involved in a robbery just because you use his inventions.
KID: Interesting. I like you.
Haibara: I just threatened you, you have weird tastes.
KID: I like people who try to kill me, they make life more fun.
Haibara: You're strange.
KID: Well, trust is something that is built. Here's my number.
Haibara: Is it real?
KID: No, but if we're going to make friends, we need to start somewhere right?
Haibara: I didn't say I wanted to be your friend.
KID: But you said you don't trust me, and from what the brilliant and charming professor said, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you can't go home, you have to find us, so… Why not become friends? I think that way you wouldn't feel awkward and distrustful if that possibility ever came up.
And that's how these two become text friends.
Since Kaito and Haibara have programming skills, I like to think that they design their own app to talk to. I like the headcanon that Kaito has knowledge in chemistry and creates his own smoke bombs, so he asks Haibara for a lot of advice.
She has him listed as "Unpaid Intern" and Kaito as "Labor Slave."
Conan is incredibly curious about her strange online friend, he makes Haibara laugh, she seems happier, he needs to know who can make her laugh out loud with a single message.
However, every time he tries to access the strange app it asks for a password, and he has no idea what it is.
She'd be surprised if she knew it was 1412, and yes, Kaito's is 4869.
Kaito asks her about the antidote, since he's seen Shinichi use it, she tells him that "unlike that reckless fool, he only uses it in serious emergencies", she shyly tells him that she would have liked to go on a date with her, but understands the gravity of her situation, so she apologizes for thinking something stupid.
Haibara tells Kaito about the kids, how dumb Shinichi is, Agasa, the new music she's listening to, the series she watched.
Kaito about his day at school, magic tricks, mentions the Nakamoris, complains about Hakuba and Akako, and asks if it would be too much to use pink glitter for their upcoming heist. I would really like to read a fic (or make it myself, since I'm at it) with their online friends, and if it comes to the point that Ai has to become Shiho once again, Kaito can take her out for a good time for a change.

Agree on the engaging with motogp as a Sport here part... But anyway what is your sporty opinion on the races we've had so far (if you've watched any?)
tbh i haven't kept up properly for various reasons, i just haven't really been enjoying it and it's a better idea to disengage rather than just constantly moaning about it. icl the fandom on here probably does play at least a bit of a role in that... so i've tumblr saviour'd that to shit and hopefully after a bit of a detox i can enjoy the sport itself more again. hence also the lack of motogp posting from me, my semi-regular apology for the many really interesting unanswered asks in my inbox. i have a bit of a mental list of the ones i do really want to get to when i'm feeling in the mood again, they had enough thought put into them i feel like they also merit a response in kind
anyway, i do also feel like i haven't missed that much lol. i watched the highlights from the race yesterday whenever it was which i think will have been comfortably the best of the four, but otherwise i watched buriram on replay and MOST of the other two and the racing quality has been. dire. my real sporting take is that pundits and fans will keep telling you that the alien era was so much worse than this and it's just nostalgia/og 4 alien narrative juice that makes people think otherwise and they are. wrong. they may be right about 2010-12, which i cannot really make any excuses for, but it just straight up isn't true for 2007-09 and whoever argues otherwise has not rewatched those seasons recently enough. it's an overcorrection and also those seasons for real long time fans suffer from such an immediate contrast to 2006, but like. the average race back then was just better. don't let them tell you it's not terrible right now
speaking of things that are terrible. i feel like sprints by now have been Normalised and there is absolutely zero point moaning about them, but they still fucking suck. they're only very rarely good to watch, they make the weekend too hectic, they're dangerous and they skew any championship fight. i appreciated casey bringing it up last november because barely anyone has a moan about it anymore these days. obviously for our present purposes it also doesn't exactly HELP that pecco is substantially worse at the sprint format, which ensures a sort of built-in deficit he really doesn't need. but even in 2023 when they were livening up the title fight i didn't like them, so i've remained consistent on this. just sort of dilutes the product, i still cannot for the life of me understand the problem sprint races are the solution to
another bad thing: tyre pressure shenanigans. no new ground being covered with this take......... it was farcical in buriram but after qatar it's just an intolerable situation. i understand WHY this has happened, i get the politics, but it's an absolute joke that they have not got a tyre that is suitable to aero yet. when this first became a talking point in 2023, when it was in danger !! of fucking up !! that title fight !! everybody in the sport should have panicked and worked to ensure that the situation would be at least somewhat addressed as quickly as possible. it is a year and a half on from that and they have done nothing. this one does actually make me a bit mad, like i just think it's inexcusable from the series and from the teams - i don't give a shit if they don't want to test the bloody tyres, this is ruining the sport both by making good racing so rare and by undermining sporting integrity. it is a joke that you will get penalised for having an unexpectedly good race. it deprived fabio of a sprint podium in jerez, it should have deprived pedro of a podium in indonesia without that extremely fugazi explanation ktm presented, and now it's massively fucked over vinales. you never know what will happen that's why you line up on sunday bla bla - but if you didn't think you were going to be in the lead and you then go into the lead then you'd better stop that right now!! what kind of racing is that? you're only allowed to win if you already thought you'd win before the race?? ridiculous
anyway. now that i've channelled my inner casey stoner. eh... what else. the competitive landscape... well, marc is barring injury or massive headloss going to win the championship, he's obviously a very good rider who is still good so nothing really new there. i didn't like what he did at cota, i'm pro people being clever and dastardly (or at least people thinking they are because they didn't read the rules correctly) but at a certain point there is a bit of a line for me. doing something that could be dangerous outside of races is just... yeah, it simply wasn't really necessary? but also it's not like i want to send him to the gallows for it, just someone very high on their own stock innit. it does really annoy me how nobody in the sport seems to have properly read the rules, i'm sorry but i would know that rule book off by heart, i have very little respect for that kind of thing. be serious. and the cota race crash was really daft, crashes happen but they exist on a spectrum and that one was not great and has artificially injected tension back into the title fight. moving on...
pecco's done a reasonably strong job thus far in the season, his worst misstep was the quali crash at qatar but otherwise there's no real complaints. he hasn't felt comfortable with this bike and has a very renowned title rival who started the season flawlessly but he didn't panic, he's kept chipping away at it. could easily have leaked far more points than this, which he had by this point in 2022-24 to his respective title rivals. obviously you can't wish away a fundamental pace deficit, especially with his sprint struggles - but i had the first three circuits at least marked as marc-leaning and my advice to pecco would have been 'try to weather the storm, don't do too much and bring the points home', which he's done. can't be doing quali crashes on what could have been a far better weekend for him, though, i get why it happened but. well. can't do it. can't do it!!
i do actually have a bit of a hot take here in that i think marc isn't faster than 2016-19 but To Some Extent he's cleaned up his game, and depending on how pecco does this season you can make the argument pecco's the toughest title challenger marc ever had to deal with. jorge/dani 2013 injury penalty, yamaha line-up post 2013 kinda washed and more often than not on worse bikes (especially ofc when those fuckers from michelin returned). and 2017-19 dovi ofc not quite at that consistently elite level, and the other challengers were ultra-washed valentino and 'maverick vinales'. like idk man i am EASILY taking 2025 pecco over 2013-19 yamaha line-up (or well post-2013 assen jorge) but i kinda feel like we're not ready for that particular conversation yet
i'll admit a. marquez did blindside me with his start to the season, obviously he won't come close to winning the title but it has been very impressive in its consistency. we'll see if the terrorism relapse was a one-off or the beginning of the end of that particular chapter. also i love my sibling more than anything and i would still kill myself in a. marquez's position so kudos on not doing that. i don't have much to say about either vr46 rider. the ducati situation in general though is obviously intolerable, like my god. in 2023 i kinda did self-gaslighting and went 'well you enjoyed 2003 and intra-manufacturer beef can be fun!!' which was true for maybe one season but.... not to this extent. not a complete PODIUM lockout. this is terrible!! it's not what motogp should be like!! every year we think it can't get worse and it does!! i guess i should have seen this coming because i was sniffing the 'surely at some point we've reached peak ducati domination' hopium but then every time i actually went through the manufacturers in my head to guess who might take the fight to ducati, i found all of them deeply unconvincing. this is another thing that has stealth made the racing worse... it helped back in the day to have two bikes with really different performance profiles and two riders with very different styles teeing it off, because you'd get more variation of performance in any given lap and then the speed differential means they can like. actually fight it out in different bits of the track. look, i don't need to explain this. modern poster child rivalry for this is obviously casey/valentino - cumbersome but lightning fast ducati vs underpowered nimble yamaha, wild instinctive casey versus precise calculating valentino. run it back! but yeah, homogenisation of bikes and riding styles is more of a long-term inevitable trend you probably can't really do anything about, but is still a shame
the other manufacturers exist on a spectrum of how pissed off i am at them currently. least pissed off is honda, then aprilia, then yamaha, and the prize for most pissed off is ktm. honda has obviously looked way better this season, though a part of me still suspects this is flattered by how aprilia and ktm have completely fucked it. i am historically not a honda fan but i am increasingly in the 'anyone but ducati' tent so i will offer my support to my allies in this cause. i have however given up on the joan mir revival cause, which deeply saddens me. zarco's been great, he's not been this good a watch since his early yamaha days. so so impressive
aprilia comes after that because it's not really their fault that their star rider has been cursed. it's just made the season SO much worse. obviously everything to do with jorge v scary and miserable and i hope he recovers well. could be one of those things where he's never the same rider again and i really hope that won't be the case. might have a pretty substantial psychological impact u have 2 say. bez has been appalling and i think it's increasingly clear which of 2023 or 2024 was the blip. i don't have anything to say about ogura that many others haven't already said, he's been truly fantastic and the star of the season thus far, i was already reasonably high on his stocks headed into this year but nowhere near this high. i hope his momentum doesn't fizzle out and he has a long and very fruitful motogp career, he reminds me a bit of 2008 dovi. raul fernandez needs to be fired into the sun and then fired, i still have no clue why he was given a two year contract extension. obviously this collection of riders makes it a bit hard to judge the aprilia, i don't feel like they've done... a great job in closing the gap to ducati? but also maybe it's the riders
yamaha has been. well. disappointing! i let myself sniff some hopium after the sepang test, which is a mistake that shall not be repeated. fabio's first few race weekends have also been a bit too patchy for my liking (but qatar's been better tbf). these fuckers are my team so i'd really like them to get it together. miller has adapted very impressively, fair plays i thought he was washed. i mean crucially idt there's more to come from him, like he was on the pace pretty much immediately on the ktm and if anything his best ktm stretch was right at the start of 2023. which speaks to his natural talent, he can adapt really well and clearly the yamaha does suit his style,,,,, but i still expect fabio to comfortably be the leading light in that manufacturer (he'd better fucking be). shout out to oliveira, still the most cursed rider. still have not forgiven the 2023 honda for essentially ending rins' career as a front running rider, miss u king
and ktm................................................................ i'm a ktm hater and i can't even enjoy this downfall. vinales being vinales and randomly deciding he's the second coming of jesus christ if he raced motorcycles one sunday per year is very funny, but obviously that shouldn't obscure how otherwise disgusting this start of the year has been. and like, i thought they'd decline in the second half of the year because of the whole bankruptcy situation, but the fact they're ALREADY struggling makes me think... idk man, i feel like there's enough of a lag in the bike development pipeline that they might just organically suck right now. ktm does traditionally have very strange early season periods, but i am kinda over it? and if they're going to suck late season too, then this hypothetical window where they don't suck to me feels rather narrow. maybe they'll get a bit better, but they have a generational talent on their roster who should be fighting for wins and preferably championships at this stage of his career. this sucks!! all the aliens were on machinery that could challenge for titles at latest by their second year in the premier class. acosta should be showing us what he can do on a bike that isn't completely fucked. all you can do is hope it doesn't end up completely derailing his career, i do sort of want him to escape next year even though i understand the reasons why that's unlikely. honda, pay the bill. otherwise... my takes on binder have not changed in the slightest since like 2023, it's everyone else who keeps flip flopping on him. i am withholding my bastianini verdict until a later date, but trust i am Watching and waiting and cracking my knuckles
anyway that's my hot takes on 2025 motogp, sports edition. not all of them but i feel like i've covered the major points. write in with your own
#and if YOU are feeling a bit disenchanted with motogp. may i say we are in for a truly fascinating women's tennis clay season#tune in NOW. tell all your friends. spread the good word#i do genuinely believe pecco is marc's toughest title rival by most metrics btw like i freely stand behind that take#again obviously it'd be a different conversation if mid 2013 had gone differently but#this is a situation where reputation blinds people like i feel i'm not being unfair to jorge when i say he was Not his best version in 2015#it is a shame idkkkkk pecco may well be his last chance at a Proper Rivalry.... kinda depends on what his body does ig#all of his just feel so... unfulfilled. so annoying. dani meh jorge no real arc valentino competitive mismatch dovi zero narrative juice#but well what can u do

Master List <3 Request List <3 Criminal Minds Master List
Spencer Reid x Reader
A/n: Hey so I haven't written anything in over a year and this is my first criminal minds thing ever so any criticism is welcomed. This was written at 3am so any bad grammar or writing can be excused in my opinion lol. Please consider sending me some requests or ideas for anything on my request list, I'm desperate to get back to being active on here but I'm running low on ideas.
Summary: You and Spencer work at the BAU and after a lapse in Spencer's judgment you end up getting hurt.
Warnings: Murder, guns, shooting, stabbing, blood, hospitals, possible death, general criminal minds talk to gruesome murders
Word Count: 2669
(NOT MY GIF)
"There she is, we were starting to think you'd quit on us." Derek joked as me and Spencer walked into the briefing room hand in hand.
After a particularly long and emotional case I had decided to take some time to myself to recover from it.
It had only been a week but in this job that felt like years.
"Yep here I am, no need to worry. I know how much you all missed me." I said with a laugh while sitting down at the round table, Spencer going to grab our coffees.
"Can't argue with that, lover boy over there has been lost without you." Emily said with a laugh smiling at me.
Everyone else had taken their seats as Spencer sat next to me, sliding my coffee in front of me with an excited smile.
"Well as much as I wouldn't use the word lost I have missed having you around here." He blushed lightly, trying to speak in the least awkward manner as he could.
I knew he had missed me at work, everyday he came home to our apartment he'd be glued to my side explaining every detail of the case he'd just gotten back from, wanting to hear my opinions and spend time with me.
As much as hearing about work took away the point of taking time off from it watching Spencer ramble on passionately and excitedly to me was nice.
Plus if I'm being honest with myself I'd be bored without it.
"Six women have been found dead in a suburban town in Texas, all between the ages of twenty to thirty and have appeared within forty-eight hours of each other." Hotch explained whilst Penelope showed the pictures of the crime scenes behind him.
"All girls were found within sixteen hours of being deceased and had already been missing for more than a day, meaning he keeps them before murdering them. He has stabbed them all once in the abdomen, careful not to hit any vital organs so the body doesn't shut down. Instead he stabs them to leave them to slowly bleed out." Penelope added whilst handing folders of information out to everyone.
"So it's likely he already has another girl with him now?" Rossi asked with a frown as he flicked his folder open.
"More than likely yes, and with and increasing confidence and skill set we can only assume he's going to continue at a quicker or more brutal pace the longer he's able to." Spencer added, looking to the group with a smile that matched nothing that he just said.
I sighed and looked at the images in front of me, at least this case seemed fairly simple in comparison to some of what we've had to face.
~~~
"This guy is most likely a social younger man who holds enough respect and familiarity within the area for people to feel comfortable enough to get into his vehicle alone at night. He doesn't force his victims to comply they willingly trust him until it's too late due to his natural charm and charisma. Then he holds them for a day before killing and disposing of them. He doesn't hurt them in their time of captivity, meaning he most likely feels remorse or is unsure of his actions, but the thrill of the kill is to enticing for him to let them go. He's confident within his ability to kill, shown in the slow and precise manner he takes in the murder. He is most likely a local who has lived here his whole life due to his knowledge of the area and the trust everyone has toward him. He also appears confident in his ability to not be caught, since he dumps the bodies rather than hiding them. He believes he's more intelligent than most people and above the law, and his high IQ helps fuel this narcissistic ideal he has of himself. That is all thank you." Hotch walks away from the room of police officers who were noting down his profile, gesturing to Emily, Rossi and Derek to follow him into an interrogation room.
I jumped up from the table I was sat on and gathered my notes from next to me.
"I just don't understand how we could have such a sick individual in our community doing this to women. It's just shocking to me." Officer Davis said from beside me.
He was the head officer on the case and the chief of police in this town, he'd been assisting me and Spencer in the last few hours with trying to create an idea of where to begin looking.
"Yeah it always comes as a shock when a member of your community causes something like this." I offered him a small smile whilst gathering my stuff to head over to Spencer, Officer Davis following closely behind me.
"I just can't believe something like this could happen here."
"Can you think of any groups of people within the community that hold a lot of respect and trust? Like public speakers, church groups, large charity groups or public helpers?" I asked him flicking to the page of possible careers I had, smiling at Spencer as I settled my stuff next to him.
"Well apart from the obvious like the police and fire force, I couldn't think of anything. We're quite a religious area but none of our churches have any well known priests that everyone would know, we have too many churches and priests for people to form personal connections with. Although we do have a large neighbourhood watch group. They do nightly patrols in cars around the streets and main roads. They're a very large group of people."
Spencer's head shot up at the last bit. "Do they have a known leader people would know? Or any type of uniform they wear to be recognisable?" He asked Davis while scribbling something on his whiteboard.
"Not uniforms no. Although, the patrol cars they use do have these stick on lights they use to be recognisable. Pauls the leader, he tells people when their needed for patrol."
"So our unsub could be a patrol member, approaching women in his car so they know he's apart of the watch group and trust him enough to get into the car without any hesitation!" Spencer said turning to Davis "I need a list of names of the leaders of the group."
I opened my phone, calling Penelope "I'll get a list of the people on patrol the nights that these girls were taken, see if there's anyone that was working every night."
~~~
Less than a day, that's all we had to find this woman before it was too late.
I was stood in an office with Spencer and Rossi, bouncing ideas off of each other, hoping something stuck.
"Penelope got him." Derek said with a smile walking into the room.
"Paul Fredrick, thirty-five years old, lived here his whole life, was arrested ten years ago for an assault against an twenty-one year old woman, and in charge of the neighbourhood watch patrol schedule." Spencer read from the paper Derek just handed him.
"Hotch, Emily and that detective are already heading there. We need to go this girl probably hasn't got that long left." Derek said gesturing us out of the door quickly.
~~~
"He's confessed." Spencer said with a smile, kissing me on the head as he took a seat next to me.
I'd been sat in this empty office in the police station for an hour now, something just doesn't feel right.
"Really? Doesn't that seem strange to you? I mean according to the profile this guy is confident and intelligent. Surly he wouldn't confess after an hour of interrogation." I bit my lip lightly as I re-read my notes again and again.
"Well sometimes the profile isn't completely correct. Plus they found the girl in an abandoned warehouse a ten minute drive away from his house." Spencer shrugged "he isn't as confident as the profile indicates, he was also quite anxious and stressed when confronted which was surprising, but the evidence points to him and he's confessed. All of the logic adds up."
"I guess. I just don't feel right." I sigh and look up to him with a frown.
He matches my expression and stands up, kissing my forehead lightly before collecting his stuff. "You probably just need some rest it's been a long weekend. The plane leaves in an hour, I'll go collect our stuff for us."
He gave me one more smile before leaving the room. As I glanced after him I saw the rest of the station basically empty and the time was three in the morning.
With another sigh I gathered my stuff and headed out the door. Maybe ten minutes outside in the fresh air would chill me out.
"Everything alright?" A voice from behind me asked, making me jump.
"Davis hi you scared me." I said with a laugh, holding the door for him as we both walked outside. "Everything's okay yeah I'm just rethinking the case."
"What's bothering you about it?" He asked, lighting himself a cigarette.
"I don't know, the whole thing just seems off, I mean why would Fredrick confess so quickly? He doesn't match the profile at all, he's awkward and of a lower intelligence. I just don't see how he could do this alone. Plus why would he take these woman to an abandoned warehouse that could be accessed to the public or the police whenever rather than his own house? He lived alone in an remote area with no neighbours. It just doesn't add up." I shrugged and pulled my arms closer to me since the cold was nipping at my arms.
All of a sudden I felt a blunt pain hit the side of my head.
~~~
(Spencers pov)
"Everything alright kid?" Derek asks me with a concerned look.
"Yeah, I'm just worried about Y/n." I reply, fidgeting with my fingers as I talk "She's been questioning the case and I'm starting to think she might've been onto something."
"What do you mean?"
"Well didn't Fredrick seem odd to you? He had a low IQ and no charisma at all, even if you knew of him I doubt many people would willingly get into his car. Plus he transported the girls for no reason, he put himself at risk by doing it in that warehouse rather than his own home. There's no way he could've done this alone."
"What are you getting at here kid?"
"Well didn't he come across to you as more of a submissive personality?"
"You think we have two unsubs here? A team?"
I shook my head quickly calling Y/n as I spoke.
"No not a specifically a team. A dominant who lured the girls and killed them, and a submissive who picked the girls out, disposed of the bodies and took the fall. It would make sense, Fredrick was to easy to find, this unsub would be to intelligent to be this simple. Fredrick was on patrol the nights the girls were taken, he most likely saw them first and then alerted the other unsub of them so he could then take them."
"Well if this unsub was so intelligent how come it was so easy to find his partner?"
The phone rang out, that's strange Y/n always picks up.
"He wanted us to. He pointed us in that direction to throw us off, he didn't need Fredrick and he knew he would stay loyal if he was caught. He wanted us to catch Fredrick so we'd leave."
Derek's eyes went wide as he got his phone out of his phone to call someone.
"You know who told us about the neighbourhood watch and the list of likely suspects?"
Derek asked with a frown.
"Davis."
~~~
"Has anyone seen Y/n?" I asked as I walked into the room that the rest of the team were in.
They all looked at me with worried expressions as Emily handed me my bulletproof vest.
"According to the CCTV she was last seen leaving the station with Officer Davis" Hotch said clearing his throat, trying to remain stern and collected even though he was as distraught as the rest of the team.
"What?" my face fell as I scanned the room, everyone either looking away from me or straight at me with concern.
Derek's phone beeped and everyone's heads snapped up to look at him as he stood. "Pen's got an address, lets go."
~~~
"FBI!" Derek yelled as he kicked down the door, letting himself into the house as I followed behind, gun trained ahead of me.
"What am I looking for here Reid?" he asked, clearing the first room.
"A basement most likely." I said walking ahead, spotting a door that appeared to be heading downstairs.
I nodded my head toward it and Derek went ahead, opening it slowly and walking down.
I followed close behind him, a loud smash was heard from in front of us and before I could even see Derek shot, leaving Davis on the floor.
"He tried to run, threw something glass at me." Derek said, gesturing to the blood from the new cut on his arm.
"Can you see her anywhere?" I pushed in front of him as he flicked on the light switch.
I scanned the room before my eyes landed on her figure in the corner, laying on the floor looking pale and bleeding from somewhere. "Y/N!" I ran over there, putting my gun away as Derek called for a medic through the radio.
"Hey your going to be okay. I'm so sorry, I should've listened I'm so sorry. Y/n please. Come on open your eyes. Please..." I felt Derek's hand on my shoulder as I started to cry.
Before I could comprehend what was happening a group of medics came in and surrounded her, Derek pulling me out of the room.
~~~
I paced the hospital waiting room floor, it had been hours and we'd heard nothing.
Emily was asleep on two chairs. Hotch was sat looking at the floor, tapping his foot anxiously. Rossi had been standing up to speak to the receptionist every ten minuets, and Derek had be constantly picking up calls from Penelope who had kept ringing for updates despite Derek promising to call her as soon as we knew.
And I had basically paced a hole through the floor.
"Reid sit down and eat something. Stop punishing yourself." Hotch said with a frown.
I shook my head and continued pacing. "I can't, I should've listened to her, or stayed with her. I didn't even try first aid I just froze when I saw her..." I replied, voice cracking.
A doctor cleared his throat behind us "Y/n L/n?"
We all looked up at him with matching worried expressions.
I held my breath as we waited for him to say something.
"She was stabbed in the abdomen but luckily suffered no trauma to any organs. She's lost a lot of blood but she's going to be okay. She's just woken up so she's a bit out of it but she can take one visitor."
I felt my whole body relax as I took a breath.
"She's okay?" I asked again with a shaky breath.
Derek put his hand on my shoulder and nodded with a smile "She's going to be okay kid."
I let out a little sob and nodded my head with a small smile.
"Reid you should go see her, let her know we're all here." Hotch said patting my other shoulder.
I nodded at both of them and followed after the doctor, taking a seat next to her bed, holding her hand in mine as carefully as I could.
She opened her eyes, slowly turning her head to look at me.
Somehow she was still smiling as bright as ever, provoking my face to mirror hers on instinct.
"Hey you." she said with a small laugh.
"Hi." I kissed her knuckles, a few tears escaping my eyes as I looked at her.
"Why're you crying? I'm the one who's be stabbed dumbass." she joked with a small laugh, causing me to chuckle.
"I love you so much, don't you ever do this again. I really thought I'd lost you. I don't know what I would've done."
"I'll try my best to stay alive then, just for you Spence."
She smiled sweetly at me with another small laugh, I admired her face for a second before leaning in to kiss her lips softly.
Truly, I’m disappointed in myself that it took me this long to do this (or maybe I’ve already done it and forgotten!) but here are the Fear Entities that I think each of the Princesses would be avatars of, knowingly or unknowingly:
Chapter 2 Girls
Beast: The Hunt. Obviously. No explanation needed.
Witch: Initially, I had her down as a Corruption avatar---she's all about nature, she's the product of a relationship that started out fine but went rotten, if you make her a more traditional witch (like me) you know she's all about mushrooms---but after thinking about it, she'd also be an amazing avatar of The Web. She's a scheming, manipulative little trickster, after all, and you know she's the type to think that spiders are adorable.
Prisoner: The Lonely is a contender, but there's really no better option for my best girl than The Buried. Chains are not dirt, that much is true, but there is something so distinctly Buried about becoming increasingly trapped in a prison so specifically designed for you... and, well, being a Buried avatar would definitely be one way of reclaiming her agency.
Damsel: The Stranger. I... don't exactly think I need to explain this one. We've all seen the Deconstructed sequence. (I do think it would be interesting if she didn't realize she was a Stranger avatar and freaks out when she discovers the truth, because feeding off of people's fear is the opposite of making them happy, though.)
Adversary: After careful consideration, I decided on The Desolation for her---but specifically, the part that deals with pain, not strictly fire. Is this because she gives me Jude vibes? Maybe, but it still works.
Tower: She was the hardest chapter 2 princess to figure out, but after much debate, I finally settled on the Entity who feels the most like her---namely, The Eye. Being able to sense the Narrator is very Eye-coded, and in terms of personality... hate to say it, but she could give Elias a run for his money.
Nightmare: Now, I could be boring and say "creepy doll=Stranger," but if I'm being honest, I don't want to repeat Entities until we get to our chapter 3s, and she feels way more Dark-coded in her whole "fear of the unknown" thing. Very monster-in-your-closet. (It could also be argued that she could literally be an avatar of anything due to her just... inspiring fear as her thing, but we gotta be specific here.)
Spectre: There is no vessel more Lonely-coded than our sweet ghost girl. And because of that, I want to give her a hug.
Razor: Slaughter. You could argue "Spiral" because Distortion=knife hands, but you cannot make a woman who is literally made of weapons anything but an avatar of The Slaughter.
Stranger: Ironically enough... The Spiral! Name aside, there's really nothing more Spiral than being everything and yet nothing at once and not knowing who or what you are, and I think this is only Entity that could feasibly suit them.
Chapter 3 Girls
Den: Also Hunt. Again, big kitty.
Thorn: Now, she was pretty difficult to figure out, but I think she also works as a Lonely avatar---or, hell, even an avatar of The Corruption because of all of her nature and decay stuff, but Lonely really fits her whole melancholy vibes and just wanting someone to be close to. Maybe she doesn't have the aesthetics, but she has the mood.
Cage: She could also be a Buried avatar, but in my opinion, The Web makes way more sense---everything from the fact that she believes she has no autonomy to the fact that her body can literally control chains that practically puppeteer TLQ feels incredibly Web-coded to me.
Happily Ever After: She is The Corruption at its most abstract---a relationship that at first seems nothing but loving and devoted, and yet when you look closer, you see that there is something deeply rotten at its core. The "toxic relationship" interpretation of The Corruption is something that's only alluded to in TMA canon, but I think HEA really does encapsulate it.
Eye of the Needle: This one is The Slaughter. It's not even about the pain anymore, it's just about wanting to fight.
Apotheosis: She is, without a doubt, an avatar of The Vast in every sense of the word. She's something that's truly too large to fully be encapsulated, too large to truly be fought or beaten. Also, big woman.
Moment of Clarity: I know, I know, ironic that there's all of these ghost princesses and I pick this weird puppet one as an avatar of The End, but her inevitability means that... well, she's really the only one who could be an End avatar. Except, of course, the Shifting Mound herself, though I'd argue that she's a more benevolent version of The Extinction. Also, gods are not avatars.
Princess & The Dragon: Spiral. Just... Spiral. I cannot stress enough how much this vessel is an avatar of The Spiral. Her chapter is too mindfucky for her to be anything but.
The Wild (Networked & Wounded): Oh god, is this one hard to categorize... I'd say Corruption for both versions, since as much as I love The Wild, there's no denying that she is a corrupted version of what Once Was.
The Grey (Burned & Drowned): Desolation for Burned, obviously, and for Drowned... well, ironically enough, I believe that drowning is actually part of The Buried. So, uh, yeah, Buried for her.
The Fury: Flesh, she's Flesh, moving on.
The Wraith: Yeah, she's The Web. You could argue that she's also The End, but... Web.
Swept Away
Katara took a deep breath. In through her nose. Out through her mouth. She wasn't nervous. Not really. Not in the sense that other people mean when they say they're nervous. She wasn't scared. She was eager. In a few short minutes, she would be a wife. She would be Zuko's wife. He was going to be her husband.
"Are you sure about this?" Suki asked for the thousandth time. "Really sure?"
"I am." Katara opened her eyes and turned to her sister-in-law. She couldn't fight the smile that spread over her face. "I'm more sure of this than anything in my life. Zuko's it. He's the one."
"Katara," Suki sighed. "Look, I get it. Zuko's incredibly hot. He's smart. He...seems really nice, but-"
"Suki," Katara started to say, but she didn't get a chance to complete her thought.
"Katara, you've known him three months!" Suki burst out. "You've only been dating for eight weeks! You are the most straight laced person I've ever met. Why are you doing something this...impulsive? You're not impulsive!"
"What are you talking about?" Katara turned from the mirror to face Suki directly. "I'm exactly this impulsive. Don't you remember Jang Hui? My protest about gender equality for STEM fields at the North Pole? The time I started a rally for prison reform?"
"Okay, fine," Suki relented, rolling her eyes. "When it comes to social justice, you are very impulsive. But, this? Katara, you're getting married! Without your dad here. Without your GranGran! I know how much they mean to you."
"They mean the world to me," Katara agreed. "But you know I've never cared about a huge wedding. I love Zuko. I love him. I don't see why I should have to wait to make him my husband just because it would take too long for Dad to fly over to see us get married. We'll have a big party...a huge one later. And everyone we love will get to meet and celebrate. But this feels right!"
"Right?" Suki snorted. "It feels right to get married without telling anyone but me and your brother?"
"Yeah," Katara said. A wistful smile tugged at her lips. "I know it sounds crazy, but...I can't wait to marry him. I literally cannot wait. I've never felt this way about anyone. You know! I know you do. Sokka told me you and he started talking about marriage two months in." Suki rolled her eyes skyward and groaned.
"Yeah, talking about it!" Suki repeated it. "We didn't actually get engaged until a year in! We got married on our second anniversary!"
"Zuko and I don't want to wait that long," Katara laughed. "So we've on a faster timeline. So what?"
"What if there are things you don't like about him?" Suki pressed. "What if he's....I don't know...super anal about the way you put toilet paper on the roll? What if he doesn't wash his feet in the shower? What if he...he hates cats?"
"Did you know Sokka's every annoying habit when you married him?" Katara challenged. Suki made a face at her and sucked her teeth.
"No," she admitted. "But I knew a few of them! I knew enough to know that I could deal with the biggest ones."
"So do I," Katara said. "I know that Zuko likes his food unreasonably spicy. I know that when he's angry, he shuts down and needs a day or two before he can talk about it calmly. I know he thinks rom-coms are a wasted of a perfectly good evening. But I also know that he already values my opinion and will make decisions with me. I know he's put in so much work unlearning toxic traits he was taught as a child, way before he and I met. I know he has the softest heart underneath the hard layers. In three months, he's become one of my closest friends. I trust him, and he trusts me. I love him, Suki. I want to marry him now.
"Um..." Suki swiped at her eyes with her knuckles, and blinked rapidly against more tears. "I get that. I do! I just don't want you to regret doing it this way. I don't want you to regret not having Dad here to walk you down the aisle. Or not having Gran Gran help you into your gown. Don't you want a first dance with Zuko?
Katara turned back to the mirror and considered her reflection. As a girl, she had pictured her wedding. Her dressed in silk and looking the best she's ever looked, and her father walking with her to meet her husband. It was exactly as Suki said, with her dancing with her new husband while people took pictures and tossed confetti. Her extended family together and celebrating.
"I don't need it," she told Suki. "Did you know that the only family that Zuko has is his uncle? His mother is dead. His father is a monster. His sister won't speak to him. He wouldn't be alone- he has friends- but, it wouldn't be the same. Plus crowds make him anxious.
"So he asked for this?" Suki frowned. "He wanted to get married at City Hall?
"No, this was my idea," Katara assured her best friend. "He said he was fine with whatever I wanted. But Zuko's an introvert, and a little agoraphobic. The only buffer he would have would be me and his uncle. He wouldn't enjoy himself. Not as much as I would want. There will be plenty of time later to celebrate with the people we love. But not all at once.
"Dad won't like it," Suki warned. Katara shrugged.
"He'll get over it once I explain it to him," she said. "And he'll love Zuko. They have a lot in common."
Suki stared at Katara for a long while, wracking her brains for something, anything to say to her sister-in-law. She came up frustratingly empty. She should have more objections to her best friend and sister marrying someone she's only known a few months. Katara was convincing. She was very convincing when she wanted to be. Finally, Suki threw her hands up in surrender. If Katara was making a mistake, then the next best thing Suki and Sokka could do was make sure they were at least close enough to help her if she needed it.
"Sokka's not thrilled," she told Katara. "I promised him I'd talk sense into you before it was too late."
"It's been too late for a while," Katara chuckled. Suki nodded and laughed with her.
"I see that now," she said. "Sokka's going to be so disappointed."
"I hope that won't cause any issues with you guys," Katara's brow drew down in worry. Suki just waved her off, though.
"Nah," she said. "I'll just tell him I'm pregnant if he gets too riled up." Katara gasped and leapt up from her seat.
"Are you joking?" she squealed. Suki grinned and shook her head.
"I just found out a couple of days ago," she said. "I was going to take him out to the game this weekend and have it announced on the jumbotron, but I'll use it to distract him from your questionable decision making if I need to."
"I'm so happy for you!" Katara said pulling Suki in for a hug. Suki hugged her back tightly.
"I'm happy for you, too." And to her surprise, Suki realized she meant it.
this episode already had an uphill battle coming off of the work of art that was last week's, but it was a very solid one nonetheless! a handful of surprising developments and some strong character moments made for a very moving watch. more specific thoughts below, spoilers under the cut!
moiraine using sakarnen was absolutely ethereal.
the music when rand and co entered cold rocks hold was stunning?
rand with rhuarc's granddaughter, all this man wants is to be a dad!
you know, i haven't had long enough to form an opinion on elaida, so this is certainly an impression!
this sequence in the dream world was lowkey terrifying.
i'm sorry when lanfear said her line all i could think of was "we've been waiting for you all summer and we're so glad you're finally here!"
mat and elayne, i just know they're sick of being on a boat together. unfortunately i am on elayne's side since i am always the trip planner, sorry to my king matrim cauthon.
egwene, elayne, AND nynaeve all pretending to be aes sedai and hoping the tower does not find out LMFAO.
1) mat must be absolutely baffled at how he keeps running into min and 2) him ditching elayne and nynaeve once his bestie shows up is gold.
it is absolutely evil how this show keeps cutting from mat to his family or vice versa!
OH SHIT one of the twins channeled! and natti...
alanna and maskim divorce era, i think i've seen this play before...
the malkieri continue to get to me. a culture, forever exiled from their home, and lan, their last king, not even knowing his own people, OH MY LORD.
i did laugh a little when moiraine confessed what she saw in the rings and lan decided to have them drink themselves into a stupor. but on a serious note, their relationship is really one of the cornerstones of the show, and i continue to love it.
rand and egwene on the other hand, PLEASE BREAK UP.
"and, i'm not gonna kill myself. well, probably not..." realest thing mat cauthon has said /j
seafolk channeling is so beautiful!
min, mat, elayne, and nynaeve forming the liandrin guirale hate club.
elaida just KILLED AMICO?
WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP GETTING STABBED?
earlier in the season i was wondering where the writers would take natti cauthon's character considering the background they gave her in season 1, but i wasn't expecting her to just DIE.
dain and perrin as a ship is unexpectedly compelling me now.
also, if i had nickel for everytime the two of them went at it while perrin's girl bestie of the week beat the shit out of five whitecloaks, i'd have two nickels!
alanna and maskim having a couple's fight, 10 dead 2 injured.
not rand "i can fix her"-ing lanfear, i fear this may be a lost cause!
the siuanraine reunion was devastating as expected, OH MY GOD.
the dream sequence at the end was so beautiful! nynaeve with elnore, elayne with aviendha(!), mat with his family, perrin in his forge, each moment was so emotional. and then rand...
anyways, the theatre kid in my heart is VERY excited for next week's episode, so tune back in on thursday!
