The entire past month had been hectic.

Artemis had uprooted her life more than once. Moving from Gotham to Palo Alto for college and then once more to Star City to help her brother-in-law with Lian. That had been relatively easy in comparison. But here she is now, completely setting up something that is not entirely her own. To share a space so intimately with someone she already loves so much has left her anxious and excited all at once. She can only imagine how Peter is feeling.

They haven't really had a chance to talk about it.

Especially since today had been more chaotic than everything put together.

M'gann insistence that they throw a housewarming party had left them scrambling to clean. To hide boxes that had remained unpacked and their trash already filled to the brim because of the others they'd need to set up.

She grumbles and she collapses onto the couch, opening her eyes to stare up at the man. ❝ I think so, ❞ she replies after an irate sigh. ❝ My mom's going to complain either way and I think we have enough food. We just need to get ready. ❞

Her hands rise to cover her eyes and she groans into them. ❝ Is it too late to cancel? We haven't had the chance to even enjoy our own place yet. ❞

This is not what she had in mind when she had first broached the idea of her and Peter moving in together.

     she  was  always  able  to  bring  a  laugh  or  a  smile  out  of  him  even  when  he  was  close  to  falling  apart.  times  like  this  he  was  lucky  to  have  her  holding  him  together.  breathing  out  a  small  laugh,  "  i  guess  you're  right.  it's  just  .  .  .  something  i'm  always  afraid  of.  "

The idea of officially graduating to a new identity was a privilege for any protégé. Dick had already long made the decision to leave the Robin moniker with Batman's encouragement, and Will had described no longer being Speedy as freeing.

Artemis' decision had come at a cost. Her previous identity had to be shed for the tragedy that falls with it, after everything she had been through over the last few months. The green doesn't suit her anymore, and maybe the vicious nature of Tigress is exactly what she needs. To grow beyond and remember that she isn't what her father and the Great One had primed her to be.

The body armour is heavier than she had known before. Her callouses aren't as prominent, nor does she feel the breeze on skin. Instead, it's in her hair that wears free. Blonde.

She's pulled out of her thoughts easily by Peter, her ears pricking at the sound of his voice. She tries to hide the smile that curls at the corner of her lips, and she glances at him. Even after everything, he still could pull her out of the darkness. He still tries, and gets up again and again. And maybe that's part of why Artemis likes him so much.

❝ You think? ❞ she asks. She looks down at her wrist. Dick had helped her design it, a communicator to keep at easy access in case her ear piece went bust or M'gann couldn't hold their link channel. It's dark, like her armour, but not subtle in its appearance. She supposes that could make for an obvious target. She had not even thought of that.

But then again, her mind had been all over the place lately.

(He still cut through all of that. He overpowers her in more ways than one, and it drives her crazy.)

Once the tape is fully down and in place, the expanse of the Cave's hanger lights up, ready for a training simulation. Her knuckles had already begun to bruise by the previous day's mission, but she doesn't care. Artemis grins, a mirth glinting beneath her determined gaze as she stares at him.

❝ I can take it, ❞ she insists for what feels like the hundredth time, flicking her ponytail back over her shoulder. He should know by now that Artemis isn't fragile. ❝ Don't hold back. I'm not gonna get any better against other metas with super strength if you do. ❞

Artemis' mind had long since wandered, having tapered off from the drawl about half-an-hour before. Her chin lays in her hands and her eyes sweep across her teammates. They look about as bored as she does. Her gaze finally meets Peter's, and his discomfort is a little more pronounced. But maybe it's because she makes a point to notice.

His answer to her silent query has her smirk. Her amusement is difficult to hide, but she manages by manoeuvring her fingers so they are placed over mouth. She makes purposeful eye contact with Captain Atom before glancing back at Peter. She subtly tilts her head and leans towards the zeta tube, indicating an escape route. She taps at the incline of her wrist where a watch would sit. Do you want to go now?

“that wasn’t nice, that was flirting. i would know, i’m a retired expert in the matter.” even so, she re — directs her attention, eyes situating on her peter, intent as he speaks and meanwhile, she mirrored his actions, her fingers wrapping tight around his.

he pouts in her direction and she decides it’s her turn to roll her eyes—affectionately, of course. whilst shaking her head fondly, she says, “you raise a good argument, but i must say i’ve gotten away with worse.”
