Weight pull practice last night! I need to start a spreadsheet to track where we are in training.

Kermit (13 lbs/6 kg) needs to pull at least 104 lbs/47 kg to earn his weight pull title. Last night i had him start with the empty small cart (42 lbs/19kg), then add a block to hit 82 lbs/37 kg, then top off at 100 lbs/45 kg. Then we dropped back to 82, then back to the empty cart.

Zaku (60 lbs/27 kg) needs to pull at least 480 lbs/217 kg for his title. Since he handled 330 lbs/149 kg last time like it was nothing, and has pulled 490 lbs/222 kg at the trial before, I thought I'd make a jump in his training. Start at 410 lbs/185 kg, then 450 lbs/204 kg, then top off at 490 lbs. Then we finished his final two pulls at 450 and 410.

Zaku did struggle at the top weight. As a sport, weight pull is a mental game more than a physical game. The dog needs mental toughness and stamina to push through the physical aspects of it. So we don't want to see a beginner dog struggling in training.

This was great feedback, so next time I'll start at 330 lbs/149 kg, then 370 lbs/167 kg, then top at 410 lbs/185 kg, since he did that super confidently. After that we can build up again.

*Note -- the weight steps are based on our equipment. A large block weighs 40 pounds and a small block weighs 20. The cart weights also factor into our calculations.

I put a couple of water bottles in a bag to see how he’d react to dragging something. He was hesitant at first but then I got treats involved and he transformed into a work horse. I’ll be looking for a proper pulling harness as I think this would be good exercise for him and burn some of that endless energy

FUNNIEST fucking shit that comes with making Danny eleven years old when he had his accident in "late at night, when the nightingale sings" is the implication following, that everything that happened in the show did too. And I fully intend on (mostly) keeping it like that. There'll be some changes (of which I need to figure out) but for the most part??? Yeah relatively the same.

Like I FULLY intend on keeping Dark Danny occurring 6 months post accident. Do you know how fucking HILARIOUS that is??? That Dan got his ass kicked by a goddamn FIFTH-SIXTH GRADER?? I'd never show my face ever again. Homeboy spent the last ten years being a one-man mass extinction event, only to get his ass beat by a kid who hasn't even lost his last baby tooth. That's hysterical. I'm losing my mind just thinking about it.

AND PARIAH DARK TOO. Imagine being an eons old tyrant capable of dragging whole towns down into your dimension, and you get singehandedly shoved back into your coffin in less than 48 hours by a kid whose bedtime is still 8:30. You didn't even have the time to expand your army! You were still trying to take over the city the kid came from!

And he just!!! Shoves you back in!! Insane! This kid hasn't even been dead for a full year yet! He's still growing in his ghost fangs! And he just knocked you flat on your ass in an oversized mech suit. What the fuck! It's like looking down and seeing a four week old kitten meowing very indignantly at you and trying to bite your feet, except that kitten is also actually a black-footed cat and they have a 60% kill success rate, and oops! Now you're dead. You took too long laughing at the kitten trying to attack you that it clawed up your pant leg and ripped out your throat.

COULD I, realistically, span these episodes out over the course of 2.5 years prior to Danny's family dying?? Yes I could! Do I think it's hilarious (and horribly traumatizing, which makes it twice as fun) to shove all of this into the span of (roughly) a year instead?? Yes. Because the show has such a skewed timeline that I've always just assumed that at the end of the show, Danny was starting his sophomore year in high school. So fuck it, lets go for it!

the thing about many comics is that they will list female characters at the VERY edge of underweight for their height (or just straight up underweight) and then list male characters at the edge or well into overweight for their height and blame both on “muscle.”

Dick Grayson at 5 ft 10 and 175 lbs (general canon average) is overweight by BMI. Cassandra Cain at 5’5 and 110 lbs is underweight by BMI. and I’ve seen female characters as tall as 5’9 getting down to 110-115 lbs in canon estimates.

carrying extra muscle rarely means carrying less weight overall. Dick Grayson might be a BMI outlier for having more muscle than the average human (making his slightly overweight BMI arguably healthy) but being underweight and carrying a higher proportion of muscle than the average human rarely benefits women.

time to get real, DC. I want my 5’5+ women ripped and somewhere between 130-150. If they’re carrying more muscle, it just makes sense. if it’s for “agility” then why is Dick Grayson allowed to be overweight by BMI?

Weight pull practice last night.

I was going to leave Kermie home because vaccinations take him out, but he insisted on coming. Then I was just going to let him hang out but he insisted on participating. He did two pulls and ran out of gas. I honestly should have held firm and just said no, but this dog is very persuasive about being included.

Zaku did pulls at 370, 410, and 450 pounds (168, 186, 204 kg), then went back down to 370. He demonstrated to me that he clearly understands the game now.

He was harnessed, sat down while my friend hooked him up, and then when I said, "Ready? Let's pull!" he threw his shoulders forward and hauled ass. Extremely good pulling form with lots of enthusiasm. He seems to really enjoy it. The hot dogs and kisses aren't bad, either.

If we can get more people to stay until the end of practice, I want to have strangers hook him up instead of always using someone he knows. We've had newcomers try out the lower weights and then leave before we get to the higher weights. Which is understandable, but makes my training difficult. (And we know the world revolves around me.) XD

There's a weight pull trial late this year that my friend and I plan to go to. My goal is to have him pulling at least 510 pounds (231 kg) by then so his trial pull will be super easy for him.

Slash’s weight pull session today! I always pair weight pulls with line out practice as well as long distance stays. To me, these are crucial safety AND obedience commands while in harness so I prefer to keep them fresh all year.
