Translation: "We got some more news from 'CHEN JAPAN TOUR 2023 - Polaris -' rehearsal in our next instalment of the staff blog!"

"この日は中国でのスケジュールを終え、日本に戻ってきてのリハーサルとなったチェン！スタッフやバンドメンバーからの「おかえりなさ～い！」という出迎えに「ただいま～！」と大きな声で応えながらスタジオに入りました^^

休憩時間には「お土産で～す！」と“日本の空港”で買ってきてくれたお土産を、みんなに配ってくれました(笑)♪そして「みなさんにお土産を買いたかったんですけど、時間がなかったから日本の空港で買いました(笑)」と話すチェンに、スタジオはいつもに増して和やかな雰囲気に^^そんな風にいつも周りを気づかってくれる優しいチェンからのお土産を、バンドメンバーやスタッフみんなで美味しくいただきました^^

また、リハーサルも後半となったこの日、「バンドメンバーに伝えたいことがあります！」とチェン。「みなさん、すごく良いです！みなさんのかっこいい才能や魅力も、遠慮せずにおもいっきり出し切ってくださいね^^みなさん、最高です！」とバンドメンバーへの尊敬の気持ちを伝えていました。"

Translation: "After his schedules in China, Chen made his way back to Japan to resume rehearsals! The staff and band greeted him when he entered the studio with a warm, ‘welcome baaa~ck!’ to which Chen replied in a loud voice, ‘It’s good to be back~~!’^^

During one of the breaks, Chen announced, ‘I got everyone souvenirs!’ and then proceeded to hand out things he had bought at the airport in Japan (hehe).♪ He added, ‘I wanted to get something for everyone, but I didn’t have enough time so I just stopped at one of the shops in the airport (hehe)’. Regardless of where he got the souvenirs, everyone was appreciative and the mood in the room quickly livened up.^^ The staff and band alike were thrilled to receive the gifts, and this act of kindness showed just how considerate Chen is of all those around him.^^

During the second half of the first day rehearsal, Chen announced, ‘There’s something I'd like to tell the band’. Chen then proceeded to express his gratitude and respect for the band by saying, ‘Everyone is so amazing! Please never feel shy to show off your talents and charms, you guys are really the best!’."

Q：日本語の曲を覚えるための自分なりの練習方法はありますか？

A：まず、一小節の最初の単語を覚えます。そのあとは、自然に続くように言葉の意味も含めて暗記します。その方法でも難しいときはただひたすら覚えます！(笑)

Q：ツアー中、喉や自身のコンディションを管理するためにしているルーティンはありますか？

A：以前は喉の乾燥を防ぐために喉に塗るスプレーのようなものを使っていましたが、最近は水を頻繁に飲むようにしています。それと喉を使うときはコーヒーを飲む量を減らします。普段はコーヒーを1日に2杯ずつ飲みますが、ツアー準備中の最近は1杯も飲まないようにしています。

次回もチェンに質問をしてみますので、お楽しみに♪

Lastly, we asked Chen a couple of questions about the songs!^^

Q: Do you have any tips for remembering the Japanese lyrics to your songs? A: Well, first off, I start memorising each of the words from the first measure. To make sure I can transition between each section naturally I also memorise the meaning of the lyrics. This isn't a failproof method though and I still encounter difficulties. (hehe)

Q: Do you have a special vocal care routine to keep your throat and voice healthy during the tour? A: In the past I used to use a spray to keep my throat from drying out, but nowadays I just drink more water. I find that when I'm on tour and singing a lot, I don't drink as much coffee as usual, either. I typically drink about two cups a day, but ever since I've begun preparing for this tour I haven't had a single cup!

【ワークショップのご案内】

「真夜中のアルコーブづくり」

開催日：9/2(土) 、9/30(土)

時　間：14:00〜、16:00〜

定　員：各回4名様

参加費：¥2500［水出し珈琲付き］

〈内容詳細〉

アルコーブ(小さな部屋)に見立てた陶制の枠内に、キツネと女の子が思い思いに過ごす、小さなレリーフを作っていただきます。

参加のご予約をいただく際に、メインパーツとなるキツネか女の子、どちらかをお選びください。

ワークショップ当日では、更に、お茶セットや本、天体望遠鏡などのおうち時間のパーツを3点まで選び、色を塗ったり鉛筆で模様を加え、最後に枠内にパーツを配置して接着という作業になります。

オプション（＋200円）としてパーツを増やすことも可能です。

作品は当日お持ち帰りいただけます。

絵が描けない方や、色選びが苦手な方でも、簡単にお作りいただけます。

原型の水出し珈琲を一緒に飲みながら、みなさんとぼやぼやお話できたら嬉しいです。

Did TB2 come to Japan this year? I think so. And a game of the Rugby World Cup came over to my town Sapporo!!!

今回は日本開催のラグビーワールドカップ！！日本でも近年注目されるようになったスポーツですが、世界ではイギリスを中心にサッカーと並ぶ大人気のラグビー。我が町札幌にもやってきましたので、観に行ってきました！

どうでもいいけど、Rugbyがリグビーに見えて仕方ないですｗ

I saw “Sipi Tau”(as war-cry) by TGA for the first time! It was amazing! ! The ENG got it face to face. Most of the venues are ENG-fans, but after the end of this Sipi Tau, the crowd gone wild!!😆

9月22日、札幌ドームにて行われたイングランドVSトンガ戦。

トンガ代表による「シピタウ」もばっちり拝めました！すごい迫力！！（南太平洋諸国の伝統、戦闘の儀式）

それを真っ向からじっと聞くイングランド代表の背中もまたカッコイイのです！　会場はほとんどがイングランドファンでしたが、シピタウが終了すると拍��喝采で一気に盛り上がりました。

札幌ドームはもはや軽く海外にいるような状況。私の前後左右も海外からのお客様で英語が飛び交ってて地元民なのにアウェーでした。ビールの売り子してるお兄ちゃんが何気に英語ペラペラでやりとりしてて今の若者ってスゲー！！と思いました。

In the second half, ENG-fans cheered on TGA in Tonga Call!　It may be because there was a big advantage in score, but I felt it was great sportsmanship and a respectable mind

私はラグビーのルールもよく知らず「一生に一度だ！」というキャッチに釣られて行ってみたまでなのですが、これは見る価値ありでした！

生身の体と体がぶつかり合って、ボールをつないでいく様子は本当に胸熱！！野球やサッカーのゲームはよく観に行っていたのですが、正直、それよりラグビー面白いと感じました！！

なんたってマッチョ好きにはたまりません！！！

結局それか、ああ、それだよ！

後半はイングランドファンがトンガコールで劣勢の相手チームを応援！まあ、大差でイングランド有利だったというのもあるんでしょうけど、少なくとも私が知る限り野球やサッカーでは見たことがない光景でした。これも胸熱でした！

But then, the seat of Sapporo Dome is the worst in Japan. I think the foreign spectator felt tight and a pain in their butt. I’m sorry about that as citizens of the host country😓 

Between ourselves, the local people worried they run out the beer from Sapporo😂LOL  

日本のドームの中でも最悪と言われる札幌ドームのシートなので、尻は痛いわ狭いわで･･･体のデカイ外国人たちは肩と肩がぶつかちゃってぎゅうぎゅう詰め。国際試合をする会場なら、VIPシートとは言わずとももうちょっとどうにかした方がいいんじゃない？とホスト国民として何だか申し訳ない気分になりました。 

それと、地元では札幌からビールが消えるんじゃね？っていう心配があったほど、外国人のビールの飲みっぷりはハンパなかったです。そんなに飲んでるにも関わらず、皆お行儀が良いというか悪酔いしてる奴がいなかったというか（私が見た限りでは）皆フレンドリーな感じでした。

過去、サッカーのWカップが札幌に来た時は、フーリガンを恐れて周辺の店は閉まり、車のディーラーはショールームの展示車を全部下げたりして厳戒態勢だったものですが（札幌ドーム周辺には車屋が多い）、今回は町も明るかったです。

ラガーマンは試合が終われば皆仲良く！という精神らしく、誰彼かまわずハイタッチでスキップして帰ってましたｗ

最後に、このラグビーW杯のチケットですが、とても美しいのでぜひご覧いただきたく！

そして、11月30日はBnA Hotel Koenjiにて 12月6日まで開催中、三角FRASCO研究所の Inaba Masaya+Yuki Okabeによる 保存展が開催中。 アートホテルのバーの空間を使ったインスタレーションは、 「え、なにここ。ネオ高円寺？」というくらい異空間。

[2018][Paris] 巴黎特輯之<Before Sunset>散步地圖

來巴黎之前，有各種不切實際但又浪漫的愚蠢理由，促使我就算被各種法國人警告這裡有多糟，心裡還是覺得 “管他的咧，先來再說”。

其中一個說起來浪漫，其實有點可笑的理由，是我一直很想循著電影Before Sunset散步的腳程，再踏一次巴黎。可能是以為這樣子就算一個人在這裡形單影隻的過活，至少也悲慘的浪漫。

在巴黎變成進入冬天，漸漸退去一切色彩、變成現在的慘澹模樣以前，的確就跟電影裡的巴黎一樣迷人。畢竟重逢事這麼美妙的事情，還是要在這個城市的氣候還算宜人的時候趕快發生。那就跟著電影開始吧。

1. 莎士比亞書店 (Shakspeare & Company)

37 Rue de la Bûcherie, 75005 Paris

Celine和Jessi那十年前相遇共度了一個晚上之後，十年後終於又在巴黎右岸的莎士比亞書店重逢了。

電影開始的場景莎士比亞書店，就位在巴黎的中心，它就在有聖母院的西提島旁邊，塞納河左岸，過個短短的橋就到了。

它其實是一間英文書店，裡面長得非常英式，感覺會撞見妙麗窩坐在某個角落看書的那種。

Jessi當時在書店的二樓開新書讀者見面會。

“Do you wanna, maybe, get a cup of coffee?” “Didn’t he just said you have a plane to catch?“ “Yeah, but, I mean, I have a little of time.“

假日的時候人實在很多，很擁擠。但平日的上午來這邊可以很自在的逛逛，書店裡有一些非常cosy的座位，讓你很想就抓一本書隨意就可以坐上30分鐘慢慢讀。

書店門口放著一些二手英文書可以買。

“I thought I was going to totally lose it in there after I saw you.“

2. 窮人聖朱利安路 (Rue Saint-Julien le Pauvre -- Rue Galande)

接著他們出了書店後，走右方的小路：Rue Saint-Julien le Pauvre。走在路上可以在人行道和車道中間看見圓圓矮矮的小圓柱將其分隔，果然像電影裡的那樣。

“It’s funny. I read an article on your book, and it sounded vaguely familiar, but I didn’t put it all together until I see the photo.” “Did you have a chance to read it?“ “Yes, I was really surprise, as you can imagine...I had to read it twice, actually.“ “Comme ci comme ca?” “No, I really like it -- it’s romantic. I usually don’t like that, but it’s well written.“

直到路的最底端，經過轉角的教堂 “Eglise Saint-Julien le Pauvre”

“You must have hated me. But you can’t hate me now!“

這個角度另一側可以看到遠處另一間教堂 “Église Saint Séverin”。

“Wait, why were’t you there? I would have been there if I could have. I had made plans. You better have a good reason...... Oh no! You were there, weren’t you?” 

從這邊他們左轉走進Rue Galande，一個典型的巴黎小巷，安靜卻又充滿魅力。

“Did you meet another girl?” “Yeah her name was Gretchen. She was awesome... “ “Really?“

3. 聖保羅花園路 (Rue des Jardins Saint-Paul - Rue Charlemagne - Rue Eginhard)

這時候，電影的鏡���毫無縫隙的轉換到他們繼續散步的下一秒，好像路線是完全連貫的。實際上，從這一個場景是距離上一條街950公尺以外的另一條路了。

“I walked around for a couple days, then eventually I flew home, I owed my dad two thousand bucks, who had warned me about French chicks.“

這條路叫做Rue des Jardins Saint-Paul，欄杆現在漆成了彩色。

另一側柵欄後面，原來是一個學校的戶外廣場呀。

“Reading something knowing the character in the story is based on you, it’s both flattering and disturbing at the same time.” “Why is it disturbing?“ “i don’t know. Just being part of someone’s memory, suddenly seeing myself through your eyes.”

走到底之後，他們往右轉走到 Rue Charlemagne。

“I gotta say I admire the fact that it sounds like you are actually doing something. Most people, myself included, just bitch about everything: How America’s consuming all the world’s resources, SUVs suck, global warming...” “You know, I’m relieved to hear you’re not one of those Freedom Fry kid of Americans”

這條路相當短，大概走個一分鐘就會走完，路的兩側有一些看起來很棒的藝廊。

他們這條路沒走完，就先左轉進入一個更小條的巷子，Rue Eginhard，然後從一個拱門走出來。

“So how is the world getting any better? I’m not getting angry, but really, I want to know. I’m intrigued.” “OK. I realized, that there are a lot of serious problems in the world.” “Ok. Thank you.” “I mean I don’t even have a one publisher in the entire whole Asian market.“

4. Le Pure 咖啡廳 (Le Pure Cafe)

  14 Rue Jean-Macé, 75011 Paris 

接著他們對話也是無縫接軌的到了咖啡廳外，讓人以為拱門一出來前方就是咖啡廳。實際上咖啡廳又是在一公里以外的這家Le Pure Cafe。

想不到這家cafe還開著，室內還是看得出來電影裡的樣子，不過他們座位原本的位置，桌子的擺放方向不一樣了。

“Parisians can be so grumpy. Have you noticed?” “Really? Everyone around here seems pretty happy to me. “ “They’re not happy.“

“I think, well, desire is the fuel of life. Do you think it’s true that we’d never be unhappy if we never wanted everything?” “I don’t know, actually. Not wanting anything... isn’t it a symptom of depression? It’s very human to desire.“

這家咖啡廳，就是我印象中很“巴黎”的咖啡廳。有一點浮華，但不太張揚，還有一點vintage。一杯咖啡，一本書，可以度過一個下午。

5. René-Dumont 綠色小徑 (La coulée verte René-Dumont)

兩個人離開了咖啡廳以後繼續散步，他們到了La coulée verte René-Dumont。這是一個架高的綠色小徑，在舊鐵路上的建築物上面，現在變成一個長形的公園。Celine和Jessi從 90 Avenue Daumesnil 和 Rue de Charenton的交界樓梯處走上這座空中小公園。

樓梯上來後好像來到了一個秘密花園，一個都市沙漠中的小綠洲。

“Was it that forgettable? You don’t remember, in the park?” “Wait a minute. I think you might be right.” “You’re messing with me.” 

我喜歡小徑旁滿滿的植物，茂密的生長成一個綠色隧道，陽光從樹葉間的縫隙間穿透，灑在散步的人的身上。

“It is amazing what perverts we’ve both become in the last nine years.” “At least now we don’t have to pretend that each sexual experience is some life-altering event.“

今天來的時候，天氣真好，來散散步，還可以在兩位主角坐的綠色長凳上享用我的午餐三明治。

「我們該把你送回機場了。」Celine這樣說道。

“You will miss your flight. Come on, let’s go.”

6. Tournelle 碼頭 (Quai de la Tournelle) -- 亨利四世碼頭 (Quai Henri-IV)

接著鏡頭一轉， 他們在塞納河畔繼續走著，腳步加快了些。這裏其實又回到距離第一個場景--莎士比亞書店--不遠的地點。

接著他們在Quai de la Tournelle隨性搭上了沿著塞納河航行的觀光船。

“Let’s get on that boat. Come on.“ “No!“ “No, come on. It will be fun.“ “You don’t have time! We gotta go!“

他們叫這種船bataux moches，蒼蠅船（為什麼叫蒼蠅船呢？...喔其實很無聊，因為那是至船公司的名字）。這是一種給觀光客搭乘，可以在塞納河上沿途遊覽經過的著名光觀景點，包含聖母院、艾菲爾鐵塔、亞歷山大三世橋、奧賽博物館和羅浮宮博物館等等建築物。

就我實際造訪的情形來看，Quai de la Tournelle是沒有船可以給你搭的。照片裡的船是一個餐廳。

最有名的觀光船公司Bataux Moches的上船地點在沿著河往西邊三公里的阿爾瑪橋 (Pont de l'Alma)。秉持著實驗精神，去搭了一趟船。其實我沒有搭上最有名的bataux moches，我搭了另一家觀光船Vedettes du Pont Neuf，上船地點則是在新橋 (Pont Neuf)，在西堤島的另一端。

“Tell him to pick you up at ‘Quai Henri Quatre.’ “Oh shit, k... kai...?” “Henri quatre. Quai Henri Quatre” “K....” “Henri Quatre.” “Ke... What?” “What’s wrong with you? Do you want me to...? Henri Quatre.” “Henry Fourth?” “Yes.” “Come on, why didn’t you say so?“ (Ok...沒人可以怪Jessi唸不出來... 也太多r)

我喜歡電影在這個地點，兩個人的對話有了更進一步的轉折。一開始相遇的時候，他們熱切地詢問彼此這九年的近況，再聊到人生、哲學、天馬行空各式各樣的話題。但在船上，他們才真正開始碰觸到兩人心中一直最想談，卻又不知該不該碰觸的話題。

“You can never replace anyone, because everyone is made of such beautiful specific details. Like I remember the way, your beard has a bit of red in it. And how the sun was making it glow, that... that morning, right before you left.”

他們一直搭到亨利四世碼頭後下船，然後搭上要載Jessi去機場的小轎車。

“All these couples expected that after few years of living together for the passion, that consuming desire, to be the same at the beginning, it’s impossible. And thank god, otherwise we will end up with aneurysm if we’re in constant status of that excitement, right? We will end up doing nothing at all in our lives. Do you think you would have been able to finish your book if you were fucking someone every five minutes?” “I might have welcomed the challenge.”

我搭的的船也沒有停靠這站。後來某一天我散步到這個碼頭附近，已經離最多人聚集的河畔有點距離。

7. 弗伯聖安東尼路 (Rue Faubourg Saint-Antoine)

小轎車的路線顯然不太重要，畢竟在車子裡我們看不太到窗外景色。我喜歡這裡Celine終於顯露出自己最脆弱與不安地一面。

“I was fine until I read your fucking book.”

電影中他們最後來到了Celine的公寓。Celine告訴司機說她的住址是“18 passage des Petites-Ecuries”，但實際上的拍攝地點，似乎是在一條叫Faubourg Saint-Antoine的路上，一個有庭院 (就翻成“金星庭院”吧 Court de l’Étoile d’Or) 的公寓中。但是這個公寓並不對外開放，我們自然進不去。

"So, I want to try something.” “What?” "[hugs him] I want to see if you stay together or if you dissolve into molecules.” “How'm I doing?” “Still here.” “Good, I like being here.”

Et voila，到此為止我們就走完了Before Sunset的電影路線。我覺得跟著他們的路線走過一次，其實相當適合體驗經典的巴黎風情。它的起點就在巴黎最最中心的西提島，在巴黎人最愛的塞納河畔跟著當地人一樣散步，可以路過非常巴黎風味的小巷弄，可以路過不是特別觀光客的綠色隧道，也可以體驗非常觀光客的塞納河遊船，多種體驗一次滿足！

p.s 電影最後的場景在Celine的小公寓裡。這種有點波希米亞、木頭地板的霍斯曼建築小公寓，簡直是我心中巴黎小公寓的經典，在巴黎找公寓的時候心中總有一個Celine的公寓這樣的image在那邊。現實是，住在這種建築，這個地點，這個大小的房子，簡直貴得要命，而且聽說老舊的房子問題一大堆，所以我早就已放棄這種癡心妄想。只能說有夢最美，希望相隨。

“The Joy of the Christian” (Psalm 16:5-11)

Family, friends and guests of the couple, let me welcome you to church for this joyous occasion.

I’m honored to be able to share a few thoughts from from Psalm 16. I hope that these words will encourage your hearts and build us all up in faith.

If I had to give a title to this exhortation, it would be: “The Joy of the Christian” fitting for this happy day. As you prepare your hearts to make your solemn vows allow me to make three points about Christian joy:

First point: your God is good and gracious (v5-6)

It almost goes without saying that the Christian’s joy begins first with the Christian’s God. The first two verses in our text show the psalmist declaring what matters more to him than anything in the world: his relationship with God.

The Lord is his chosen portion, his cup, his lot, his beautiful inheritance - four objects which are personal and valuable. In short this is man whose life will be built on a God he knows is good. In modern terms, the language of boundary lines and beautiful inheritance is like a young couple winning a single digit BTO draw, or a generous enbloc arrangement - that’s how good God is. The Puritan Stephen Charnock writes that “the goodness of God is his inclination to deal well and bountifully with his creatures”.

Christians aren’t just religious people. They’re people who have discovered hidden treasure in a field and found the pearl of great price. They know God has dealt well and bountifully with them. Before Christ we lived in sinful rebellion. It’s not that we weren’t perfect, but we lived life on our own terms and spurned the One who made us. He would have been right to judge us and leave us to the mess we’ve made. But in His kindness God sent a Savior when we could not save ourselves. Jesus Christ came to live the life we should have lived, and He died the death we should have died at the Cross. And from the dead God raised Him up to make possible a new life of sins forgiven and conscience cleansed. And if any of us turns from our sins and trusts in Jesus, we can be adopted into His own family, the church.

This is the best news in all the world. And some think it’s too good to be true, too good to be real. But the couple knows the goodness of God because they’ve experienced it. He has been good to them, not because they have a spouse today, but because they have a Savior called Jesus, and have life in His name. Your Heavenly Father is good and He loves you - he will never give you a stone when you ask for bread, or a snake when you ask for fish. And His good Spirit He has sent to dwell in you.

Let me share that first point in Mandarin:

我很高兴以诗篇 16:5-11 这段上帝的话语做一些分享。从诗篇中，我们可以学习到诗人的人生观念，并思考这对我们意味着什么。

诗人在第 5 节说“耶和华是我的产业，是我杯中的份；我所得的，你为我持守。‘’

这一节提醒我们：跟随耶和华的人是何等的有福。诗人在耶和华里寻求自己的身份、生存的意思。对他来说人生的意义不在子孙满堂，荣华富贵 ，而是在上帝怀里享受那又平静又安稳的生活。诗人的生命依然有各种各样的考验和磨练，他却深信在上帝怀里的生活是多么有福。第九节他说：”我的心欢喜，我的灵快乐”.

朋友们，一生最美的祝福，就是能认识并信靠主耶稣。我们在认识耶稣之前是过着叛逆pan ni和罪恶的生活。那时我们为自己而活，拒绝、憎恨上帝，与祂为敌。但是上帝没有因此而拒绝我们。他差遣他的独生子耶稣基督降世为人，最后还为我们钉在十字架上流出宝血，赦免我们的罪，让我们成为神的儿女，并给我们带来永生的盼望。这是全世界最美好的消息 ye 就是基督徒爱欢喜唱歌的原因。我们不是在教堂里举行音乐会时唱，而是从心里发出感恩，赞美的欢唱。

有人说基督教的福音是好消息，却令人难以置信。但是这对新人都有亲身体验到上帝对他们的美善和怜悯，并已经转离罪恶, 信靠耶稣，借着耶稣基督与上帝和好。我们在这场婚礼中所看到的就是这对有福的人做出的见证。

如果我们跟他们一样做同样的选择，转离罪孽并相信耶稣在十字架上的牺牲，并从死亡里复活，我们也可以认识这位善良，公义，仁慈的天父。

约翰福音 3 章 16-17 节的话是如此的宝贵：“神爱世人，甚至将他的独生子赐给他们，叫一切信他的，不至灭亡，反得永生。因为神派他的儿子降世，不是要定世人的罪，而是要世人借着他得救。”我希望大家能够好好思想这段分享。如果真的有这样一位良善的神，他会不会是在等候我们每个人的选择？

So the first point: your God is good and gracious. Second, we need not fear the worst things in life (v7-10).

Back in our passage we see hints that the psalmist’s life is no different than the average person’s - full of trouble. Verses 8-9 suggest difficult circumstances that might shake him or make him anxious. His prayer is God that preserve him and be a refuge although we don’t know the exact reasons why. Certainly this is the prayer of a troubled man.

Friends what do you do when you’re troubled? What higher power do you seek out for help?

It’s interesting how many modern people no longer believe in seeking help from others but turned inward in self-sufficiency. We like to solve our own problems. So we see many people now practicing mindfulness. Or better self-care so we can cope. But there is a better way. V7-8: go to God with what you fear. The psalmist seeks counsel from the Lord, and his heart is instructed by night. Where does this man find help? When the sun goes down, he gets quiet, humbles his heart, seeks God in prayer and reads the Bible for instruction. Facing the worst things in life, the psalmist must have this: that the Lord is always before him, always at his right hand.

This is practical wisdom for Christian couples. Finding time to connect with one another and talk will get harder and harder. So cultivate the habit of reaching for God together at night and you’ll always talk. Read Scripture together as you date. Share your headaches and heartaches. But knit your souls together in the things of God. Let God’s Word be where the two of you meet each day. This is an area where husbands should take initiative. It can’t be organic brothers, it must be intentional. Someone needs to say “I have set the Lord always before me”. It doesn’t have to be a long thing, but it must be a constant thing. And friends, all married couples start out in this and lose steam. But all of us need to pick it up, say I’m sorry we’ve neglected God’s Word, and let’s try again.

And the more we read God’s Word together, the less we fear the worst things in life. In v9-10 the psalmist faces something so dangerous that he’s worried he might die. But knowing God’s Word gives him a quiet inner confidence - his heart and whole being rejoice and are glad, and he can be unshakeably secure. Why? His Bible reading has taught him this one great truth: God has promised resurrection from Sheol, the place of death.

In Acts 2, the apostle Peter says that this passage is fulfilled when God raises His holy one, Christ Jesus from the dead. Jesus’ resurrection means He has overcome the worst of things - sin, death and hell. These will trouble God’s people no more. Because Jesus was raised, God’s promises of sins forgiven and life unending are secure. Because Jesus was raised, the dead can live again, the broken can be fixed, and the worst things in life can turn out for our good. So neither cancer, clashes, conflicts, crises - none of these will have the ultimate word for those belong to the resurrected Jesus. So we await this risen Savior who transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body in resurrection hope, Phi 3.

So reasons for joy: God is good and gracious, in Him we need not fear the worst things.

And still point three, the best is yet to come (v11).

The psalmist has seen what God has promised in Scripture, and the hope of resurrection. He also sees what the future looks like - the path of life God has opened up v11, and in God’s presence, there is fullness of joy with pleasures evermore at His right hand.

Eph 2 says in the coming age our God will show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness towards us in Christ Jesus. God is not a sour, grumpy god waiting for us to slip up. No, He’s the God of happiness and joy - who made pineapples and longans and durian, and whales and butterflies and monitor lizards, of symphonies and design and all manner of beautiful things. But more than this - His heaven will be full of unending, glorious good because He will give us the best thing - Himself.

That’s why each Sunday, as we gather with the church for Lord’s Day worship we are a foretaste of the best still yet to come. We should all make gathering with God’s people a priority. It points forward to the day when we will have Him. And this very wedding service now is a preview of the joy that is coming.

Christians, this is your destiny and hope in Jesus. You can afford to not sweat the small stuff like fights and disagreements, or people hurting you or being mean. You have plenty of emotional capital if you fill your heart with this hope, with this anticipation. And though the days will stretch you and your hearts may be bruised as you take up your Cross and follow Jesus, your faith will be refined as you wait for Him, your love will be perfected, and one day all your hopes will come true when you see Him face to face.

So dear friends, feast your hearts on the joy of the Christian as you begin your life together: your God is good and gracious, you need not fear the worst things, the best is yet to come.

May the Lord bless you and keep you on on the path as you enter by the narrow gate, swerving neither to the left nor to the right . And may you walk always in Christ, all the days of your life, Amen.
