another thing that is simply amazing about wei wuxian is that he doesn’t give a fuck about hoarding the knowledge he attains. in the cultivation world where clans jealously hold their resources close and have techniques unique to their families because progress is meant for them and theirs–wei wuxian utterly breaks the mould with his inventions. the products of his genius are spread far and wide and his way of doing things is disseminated within the cultivation society as crucial pieces of information. the spirit attraction flag and the compass are used not only by the clans but also the rogues–the bottom most people in their hierarchy. all of them benefit from wei wuxian’s knowlege in a way that the clans are simply incapable of replicating because they would never allow their own methods to leave the boundaries of their clans. and when wei wuxian is back, he takes to teaching instantly and has no qualms against sharing both his experiences and hard-earned wisdom with the juniors and i think it’s important to note that he has literally no affiliation to them prior to meeting them, except jin ling. he doesn’t know sizhui is a-yuan, he just knows they’re lans and later the boys he leads at yi city belong to several different clans–clans that were responsible for his own death and the death of the wen remnants, mind you. but wei wuxian would never make the children bear the sins of their forefathers, of course, just that painting the background helps in understanding how open and willing wei wuxian is about sharing his knowledge with others. it’s very lovely, really. the cultivation society only took from wei wuxian but he only ever gave them back.

Au where Wei Wuxian does a blood sacrifice thing as he's dying, so no one he loves can be injured by another person. If someone tries, they are injured instead.
Lan Zhan gets whipped three times before the whole thing is called off. He has to carve the new rules condemning his love instead. His attempts at branding himself fail so he paints the mark on himself every day until he figures out how to make it permanent
Wen Ning can't be controlled, and so he goes to Cloud Recesses to watch over A-Yuan.
A-Yuan excels in long-range combat and music cultivation since it's difficult for others to properly spar with him.
Jin Ling becomes even more cocky. After all, what's going to happen? Is someone going to hurt themselves trying to hit him?
Jiang Cheng has several crying sessions over this because how can Wei Wuxian care for him after everything and how dare he do this
The only time someone has successfully hurt these people is when Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan get tired of the other man's shit during a discussion conference and try to punch each other in the face. The result is that they are both thrown into the air, with Jiang Cheng cutting his head open on a table and Lan Zhan spraining his ankle by landing wrong

Just finished mdzs book 1, absolute banger. My favorite part was how for at least half the narrative wwx had to be carried around like this:

MDZS AU where Jiang Cheng realizes that Lan Sizhui is the Wen orphan that Wei Wuxian took care off during the Burial Mounds arc, decides that's close enough to qualify him as Nephew, declares that no Nephew of His (much less a surrogate son of Wei Wuxian's) is going to be raised in the Cloud Recedes, and immediately launches into a custody battle with Lan Wangji.
But since neither Jiang Cheng or Lan Wangji can acknowledge that Sizuhi has any connection to Wei Wuxian, both begin steadfastly and stubbornly insisting that he is a Cultivator of peerless potential and skill and he belongs in their sect thank you very much, and would clearly be very unhappy in the other's. This confuses the hell out of the already mystified Cultivation world, who had barely adjusted yet to gossiping about Sizhui being Wangji's illegitimate child by mysterious love affair.
(Eventually the common consensus in the rumor mills is that both JC and LW where in love with Sizhui's mother and both believe themselves to be Sizhui's real father.)
(LW couldn't care less what gossips say, but JC has to bite his tongue till it bleeds to avoid telling anyone the truth in a fit of anger.)
(It was Nie Huaisang who put that rumor out in the first place, partly to troll JC, partly because, in a way, it's a little true.)

You know some anti-JC stuff I'm like. Okay I disagree with you but at the very least I can understand how you would get to that point. JC mistreats WWX? Like, you're wrong, but a (very) selective/biased reading of the text makes it *possible*. JC abuses JL? Again, you're wrong, but a specific reading of and ignoring the cultural context of the text makes it *possible*. JC is a bad sect leader? Like, again, biased reading of the text, but.... sure. Whatever.
Some things though, I'm like. Literally what are you talking about. "JC forced JYL to marry JZX" it is an entire plot point that he did not do that. The book tells you the exact opposite.
"JC didn't rebuild Lotus Pier/the Jiangs" okay so who did? Because you understand the whole clan was gone, right? It was him, WWX who was getting drunk off his ass then dying, Jiang Yanli who eventually married out and also died, and a husk of Lotus Pier which had still been damaged and altered by the war. They had.... a few buildings? What the fuck else do you call what he did than rebuilding?
"JC never protected WWX" it is an entire plot point that he lost his core doing that. That is a thing the book tells you. He covers WWX with his body against his own mother and Zidian during the siege on Lotus Pier.

More head disciple era doodles because i love these idiots
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(EDIT i just noticed the mistake there was supposed to be "shimei" instead of "shijie" mannn whatever im not fixing that bye)
theyre so stupid and so fun. anyway more of my headcanons under cut if you wish to see
these are just my headcanons im not saying this is the correct way to see them just me having fun ok lets go (this is mainly MQF cuz duh yeah who would have guessed hgjfk)
MQF usually doesnt insert himself into the inter-peak messes and dramas, but does enjoy the fact that people tend to come to him to rant about the latest nonsense so he does get the latest gossip without a need to personally get dragged into trouble
Just the same, he is also not one to start tomfoolery (too busy for that and somewhat responsible, rip to him) but he does actually feel touched when the others think of him and ask him to be included in their tomfoolery. thats why he usually folds and accepts to take part despite his better judgement
dont be fooled MQF is also stupid silly kid just a different flavour that looks dignified on the surface but will not think twice before testing his newest antidote experiments on himself
if anyone is familiar with my fics then you know i love giving MQF a bad habit of gambling, inspired by the donghuas hilarious decision to use his model in that one scene just for the sake of it (originally rando in the book). absolutely brilliant. QQQ enables him in this most of the time and loves to take his money because she is the reigning betting champion
speaking about being inspired by donghua, one MQF background scene where he is posed on his sword is meant to look like a battle stance, but to me he mostly looks like hes trying not to fall hgjkf, thus spawning hc that he does not enjoy flying too much (on his own)
QQQ and LQG light-heartedly fight both with words and fists over the stupidest things. its enrichment
WQW's has a brand of humour that is sometimes hard for people to get and understand that he is actually joking, especially for people that dont usually interact with him. It is easier to clock for his closer circle though. (inspired by the extras)
this also continues as WQW grows more into adulthood, because he gains somewhat of a severe resting face, despite his jovial nature around his friends. He looks intimidating and grows to be more restrained and exasperated at nonsense that takes his time for no reason, but still keeps his mischievous spirit
damn i had more notes written but i misplaced them somewhere so this is it ok bye

Anyone else think a lot about how at the end of canon, Lan Wangji has had time to mature for 10+ years into a guy in his mid-30s, but Wei Wuxian still has the life experience and general maturity of a war-traumatized early 20-something?
Because like. Wei Wuxian died young and he died tragically, and everyone who was around him then that's still there after he's resurrected has gotten to live their lives. They got to mature. They've had 13/16 years to heal (or not heal -_-) and learn who they are. To become fully realized adults outside of the pressures of war. And Wei Wuxian hasn't had that. If you believe MXTX's interview that circulates on this site sometimes, he spent those 16 years in a suspended state of agony. And even if you don't believe that, he was still dead. Non-existant.
For Wei Wuxian, the war is fresh. The pain is fresh. He has no idea what's doing because he's barely an adult, if admittedly a highly skilled one for his age. The world has moved on around him and he has stayed in place. What does he do with that?
Wei Wuxian had no choice but to pretend that he's moved on, too, because that war that took so much from him was almost two decades ago, now. The Wen Remnants have been dead for over 10 years. What use is it to dig up old hurts? Except, those hurts are still hurting him.
When he died, Wei Wuxian was helping care for Lan Sizhui. Wen Yuan. When he died, Lan Wangji raised A-Yuan with the Lan. If Wei Wuxian was dead for 13/16 years and A-Yuan was 3/4 when he died, then Lan Sizhui is about his age, or very close to it.
This is the child he was raising. This child is now his peer.
Wei Wuxian has memories of war and tragedy, but no one to talk to. The juniors, who are closest to him in relative age, haven't known war, and everyone who has known it has moved on. He's trapped between generations, and that has to be so incredibly isolating.
Jiang Yanli, the Wen Remnants, Wen Qing of particular note, all of them died shortly before he did. Did he ever really get to grieve them? Will he be allowed to now? Especially with his reputation. Especially with the number of people who would really prefer him to simply leave the past in the past. Especially with all the people who think he is the cause of the deaths he wishes to grieve.
Will he be allowed to mourn, if the cultivation world thinks these deaths are his fault? Or that these people don't deserve to be grieved?
Wei Wuxian has the misfortune of being a man who is a decade out of time, and he will have to learn to cope with that, but how does he account for the missing years? When the pain is still fresh for him, how does he find a place in a society that has long since moved on?

Au where Jin Zixuan and Wei Wuxian become almost friends.
Wei Wuxian: I've been thinking-
Jin Zixuan: Shocking
Wei Wuxian: I'm trying to apologize. Quit making it harder than it already is. Anyway, I shouldn't have punched you when I did. I overreacted, and I'm sorry.
Jin Zixuan: That's ok. I was just thinking that if I had a shijie, I would probably do the same. It was wrong of me to air out my problems in public like that.
*five minutes of silence later*
Jin Zixuan: So are you and Lan-er-gongzi a thing?
Wei Wuxian: No! He's just really fun to tease. I just want to be his friend. And see him smile. And hang out with him forever. And grow stronger together. And go on night hunts together. And stuff
Jin Zixuan: My guy. When we're done kneeling, we need to have a serious conversation

The thing about Lan Wangji is if you understand Gusu Lan Sect, you understand why he acted the way he did back then.
Imagine growing up believing there's right and wrong. Those are the ONLY two colours and we shall ALWAYS strive for right. Right and wrong are well-defined. You can't possibly mistake one for the other. It's easy to embody it.
Then you meet this man, who's both and neither. How could it be? And how can you love him when he's like that? He shouldn't even exist. It shouldn't even be possible. But he's both and neither and that makes you question everything.
It's not as much about sexuality as it's about values. It's seeing goodness where you don't expect it. It's feeling greedy when you shouldn't. It's being impressed and wanting to respect someone who's good but doesn't embody your understanding of rightness. It's wanting but not knowing why or how to want someone like that.
What does one do? There are no rules for this, there's no label for someone like him. He doesn't make it easy. He doesn't fit anywhere.
And then you've also grown up with an example of love that failed horribly. With isolation, loneliness and the madness it can bring. The pain it can cause. So you hesitate.
Loving him would require unlearning every belief you ever held about everything.
That's a lot.
So of course, it takes time. The mental and emotional work feels endless. So much needs to be relearned. But life goes on and there are always other responsibilities.
He's disappearing in front of your eyes. But words don't come easy. How do you even express something that has no explanation? He's a bit too much like your mother. But you won't be like your father.
Unfortunately you've run out of time. When loss becomes evident, desperation takes over. "Fine I'll stop struggling. He doesn't have to be defined. I won't intellectualise love anymore. Fine, I accept it."
Too late. He's gone.
"I wish. I wish I could've... I wish."
...
For a very long time, I wasn't convinced about Wangxian. I didn't understand why Wei Ying would choose Lan Zhan. Their romance is, to me atleast, unconventional. But over time, I think it became obvious.
What more could one ask for than unconditional support and acceptance? What more could one ask for than a place to belong? Who can give up on a love as hard earned as it was?
