I had two thoughts when watching Flow - when kitty will get to eat? And "Wow, that whale is really convenient for the plot!"

Heads up for anyone if you are easily sensitive to animals in scary situations this movie might not be for you

I was stressing nearly the whole movie but regardless it is an absolute beaut of a masterpiece and it absolutely deserved that Oscar

I just finished watching Flow, and yeah. Gorgeous movie, kept me on the edge of my seat, lovely soundtrack. Kudos to the makers, congrats on the big win, etc etc.

But damn if that movie didn't stress me out. I almost cried at the end, it was SO SAD. I just. Aaaaaaa!

If you have not yet watched Flow (2024), you need to stop whatever you're doing and go watch it because it's a MASTERPIECE OKAY?

just got out of the theater for flow and many thougts are being thunk right now omg. when the water first rushed in, flooding everything, eating up every inch of land i kept think about mr gates' (black sails) "there's no legacies. just the water. it pays us and it claims us. swallows us whole, as if we'd never been there at all." and then when the secretarybird fought against its kind for the cat- sometimes we really lose the family we had as we stand up for something we truly believe in don't we. and then the lemur leaving its kind- the likeness it has obsessed over the whole movie- for the cat and its chosen family 😭😭😭 and then at the very end, when the cat looks at the puddle, at its own reflection, it reminds me of undertale's "despite everything, it's still you" and also of folding ideas' video essay on annihilation (2018) where he argued that "because [lena] has changed in equal measures to home that it allows her to return", referring to john campell's hero journey.

im so appreciative of your patience with me while i dive headfirst back into madoka magica for a couple weeks!

madoka was my first real proper fandom- i watched the show all the way back in 2012 when i was in my first year of high school, and while it didnt super make an impact on me in that second, it quickly took over my life and interests as i treaded more into fandomy spaces.

time and time again i find myself coming back here- not just in the sense of playing the mobile games on release day. its silly to say loving this show saw me through some of the worst possible times in my life, but it truly did. i lost myself with this franchise, and its been truly lovely to reconnect with a sense of love i thought id burned away.

exedra might not be the perfect game by a long shot, but im grateful that its given me my love for this franchise back. im grateful to be reminded of how much this affected my formative years. im grateful its no longer "ha remember how much you used to love madoka magica?", that it can be present tense again.

madoka magica exists as a message of hope- that there is a way to change things, that you can do better, that its always worth the effort to try. that its the small things, the ordinary things, that can change the course of time. its good to remember how much can happen by simply choosing to remember the good that is out there.

all this to say. i appreciate you. hold some hope of better times in your heart today for me <3
