Your heart lurched before you even checked the sender.

And as if summoned by the devil himself, two blocks ahead, there he was – your ex, a figure of dread, turning the corner directly onto your path.

Your stomach plummeted.

There was no time to think, only to react.

You bolted, a primal fear spurring your legs forward, darting down the nearest subway steps, the promise of an underground labyrinth your only hope.

As soon as you were down, he shifted, just an inch, effectively creating a small, almost invisible barrier between you and the rest of the train. He raised his book again, partially obscuring your face from anyone looking in from the platform.

It was a shield, perfectly executed.

Under the cover of his book, he leaned in, just barely, his voice a low murmur that only you could hear. "Are you alright?"

You shook my head, still breathless. "My ex. I think he's... looking for me."

He didn't react visibly, his eyes still seemingly glued to the pages of his book. "Next stop is Central. It's usually busy. Good for losing people."

"But then he might see me get off," you whispered back, your voice tight with anxiety.

Seungmin's fingers, surprisingly gentle, tapped lightly on the page he was supposedly reading. "Not if you get off with everyone else, and then immediately re-board the train going the other direction. It's a common trick. He won't expect it."

His calmness was infectious, a steady anchor in my swirling panic. He was already planning, already strategizing.

At Central Station, the doors hissed open, and a deluge of people surged onto the platform.

He was closer now, too close. He reached out, his hand hovering near your arm. "Come on, Y/N, We had something special. You can't just throw it all away."

Just as his fingers brushed your sleeve, a calm, clear voice cut through the tension. "Excuse me. Is there a problem here?"

Your head snapped up.

Seungmin.

He was standing a few feet behind Mark, holding a small, neat grocery bag. He looked perfectly composed, his eyes, usually so analytical, now held a cool, unwavering stare fixed on your ex.

"Actually, it is my business," Seungmin interrupted smoothly, his voice still even but with an underlying steel that sent a shiver down your spine. "Because Y/N is with me. We were just about to head to the gallery."

The Great Meeting Hall
