jshshj help why is the wall of text so funny— ㅠㅠ professional yapper at work (guess i’m a writer for a reason)
glad the tags made you happy though!! i loooovveee getting lengthy/excited tags or ones that point out little metaphors/foreshadowing/etc i’ve hidden in my stories, so i’m really am just trying to be that person for other people too :3c
still i didn’t think i said anything that was noteworthy enough to get shouted out jshsh
it’s funny that we kind of highlighted leona here bc that is who i’m shipping my yuu with ㅠㅠ (you both don’t know it yet and you will despise me for it but you will like each other). so yeah book 2 would be great for our yuus bc shin gets to play detective and meets a chess partner and cassandra meets her significant annoyance—
as for familial trauma, cass is a demi god from the percy jackson universe (it’s my first fandom and a disney owned franchise, don’t @ me ㅠㅠ), so in terms of ‘not speaking out against your parents or your family’s hierarchy’, she’s been handed a relatively short stick if she doesn’t want to get smitten by divine might or have her life turned into hell—
however, she is very loyal towards her (half) siblings and other half gods and, while spending time in nrc, will start associating adeuce and potential other ramshackle inhabitants with the other campers from back home, so i think her and shin would get along great!! also her experience with the godly world just made her really unfazed by all the magical nonsense in twst ㅠㅠ (of course there’s fairies heating the school and ghost living in the dorm, back in camp harpies cleaned your cabin and nymphs lived in camp. beast people? yeah, she’s seen more than enough satyrs)
okay that’s enough yuu crumbs bc if i don’t stop here i’ll start tossing entire bread loaves—

merry christmas!! 🎁
this is the result of an inspiration striking 4 days before Christmas.
i broke my hand and back trying to finish this in time 😭😭 so it’s a bit messier than i prefer and the story flows less smoothly.
but i hope you guys will still enjoy this Christmas present! and the backstory lore bits!
i actually wanted to include all the twst boys but i would actually end up in the graves if i try to do so. thts why i only drew the ones shin would canonically have acquainted and befriended by Christmas (which is roughly before scarabia arc and right after octavinelle arc. unfortunately the bad experiences r still too fresh and there wasn’t enough time for shin to get to know the octatrio 😔)
also rook is there as a fellow science club member!
im done rambling im gonna go hibernate now.
hope anyone who sees this have a wonderful christmas and the rest of december <3
#❃ ˗ˏˋ➛ transcendence#❃ ˗ˏˋ➛ sitting by the water with yudi#i’ve sent 33 minutes voice messages before why am i surprised#like that’s a podcast#i either have no words or all of them at once lol#i’m very slow when it comes to tagging or responding so a lot of stuff is still stuck in draft purgatory#but it’s a very ‘be the force you want to see in the world’ kinda thing for me#interaction makes the fandom go round or sth like that#also i’ve just really fallen down the oc rabbit hole esp for twst#i have my own collection (that i just haven’t introduced yet) but i also love seeing moots’/other people’s#i just want all of them to hang out and cause chaos (esp all the yuus they deserve it)#it’s like being a child and sitting on the carpet playing dolls with your friends hshshh#also what a smooth transition to talking about cass; masterful gambit hsjsj#i’ve been organising some of my ocs’ documents recently bc there’s three/four i want to introduce#cass being the first of them#but i’m always pushing it back bc i feel like i need to draw them first#and let’s just say i’ve been neglecting the art branch of my skill tree ㅠㅠ#also all of cass’s grudges against the gods are channelled directly into crowley who can’t smite her for speaking out of term#which is very refreshing for her#omg i also just noticed that shin and cass have similar eye colours as well jshsh

"Administratively, too, [...] queens were considered the legal lords of their landholdings. [...] Grants noted that the queen's officials had administrative autonomy without being subject to the king or anyone else, and evidence of the same assumption can be gleaned from court rolls that were recorded with headings indicating the lord of the manor whose court proceedings were being enrolled. As an example, some court rolls for the manor of Haveringatte-Bower specified that it was the court of [Margaret of Anjou] that was in session, while later rolls recorded Elizabeth Woodville as the lord of the manor court."
— Michele Seah, "My Lady Queen, the Lord of the Manor': The Economic Roles of Late Medieval Queens", Parergon, Volume 37, Number 2, 2020.
#queenship tag#margaret of anjou#elizabeth woodville#I really appreciated how Seah acknowledged the uneven surviving evidence for her subjects and how that affects her analysis.#It was very brief but it was more than what most historians do so it was very refreshing :)#my post#english history#this is for @ anon who asked if its true that Margaret mostly hosted her own courts while EW mostly stayed with her husband#I'm not sure which (if any) historian has said something like this* but I highly doubt it's true !#We don't really have solid itineraries in place for either queen to make any kind of firm conclusions of the sort#(ie: about their residences or anything else) though I'm sure it would have varied depending on the situation#But either way it's explicitly clear that both Margaret and Elizabeth held their own courts in their own lands on multiple occasions#And we also have evidence of both of them residing with their husbands in regular circumstances#*tbh this is too long to get into right now but this assumption does fit into the few 'revisionist' interpretations of both Margaret and EW#(which imo is just as degrading as her traditional interpretation for the latter) so I wouldn't be surprised if some#historians may have framed their situations in such a way and relied entirely on their own assumptions to do so#Either way as far as I know there is no evidence of any such contrast existing - at least not on a consistent basis.#and the evidence we do have contradicts the assumption#Hope this helps! I figured a proper excerpt from this article would clarify the point better than any direct answer from me <3#queue

shoutout to the 2 people at my sisters uni graduation today who pulled out palestinian flags when they walked across the stage and huge shoutout to the fact that most of the room started enthusiastically cheering the second they did
#its refreshing to see such open support of palestine outside of just online circles#i genuinely dont know if they were allowed to do that#(probably not since i dont think the university has made an official statement on their stance)#but fuck it they did it anyways and i respect the hell out of them for it#the one girl full on hid it in her gown and stopped dead in her tracks in the middle of the stage to hold it out#she was the first of the 2 of them too so she fr did not know how the crowd was gonna react#i think people tend to underestimate the effect that acts like this actually have#the best way to draw attention to an issue is to cause disruption in places of power#although a university doesnt have a direct political impact it holds so much power within academic spheres#those people stopping in the middle of the stage disrupted the ceremony and thats a GOOD thing#because it made everyone in that room (many of which who are very important people) stop and watch and listen and think#if it made people uncomfortable then thats GOOD because it means people are being forced to look at it and address the issue#at the very least even if it didnt change any minds it let people who have close personal ties to the genocide of palestinians feel support#it made them feel seen and like there are people who hear them and want to help#which is even more incredible considering these are university graduates who very likely could end up in a higher position of power#sorry for the rambling but this is actually so important to me#people dont just care about palestine online. they care about it in real life too#they care about it enough to use THEIR moment on stage -- the moment theyve been working towards for 4 years -- to speak out#using your own graduation as a form of protest is actually fucking awesome and i think more people should do it#ramblings#free palestine

Grusha, huh.
#rewatched ep 63 since there is no new ep this week and. still very good#the battle itself had fun choregraphy and liko's focus was so good. her VA did such a great job in this ep#and the way it seamlessly led into the ameliko ep.#when the character from the games is so good and still haunts my thoughts.#usually i am not really into characters from the games appearing in the anime but grusha can stay#his contribution to liko's arc and amlk is appreciated#also the fact that he had a mini arc of his own. he changed after meeting liko and had a few realizations of his own#which makes him interesting to me because he wasn't the same between his first and last appearance#makes it feel less like 'look at this character from the games' and more like they are utilizing his concept as a character#to further the current story and characters in refreshing ways while also treating him as a character who can change etc. it's neat!#i wonder if we'll ever see him again. i wouldn't mind tbh. i like his voice too#he should teach liko snowboard too. it'd be cute! (probably won't happen in canon but it's still a nice thought for fanmade works)#the entire writing around liko and grusha still remains one of my fav things#hz063#character notes#episode notes

I love watching homophobes try and pretend kids are too young to understand same sex relationships, when my 6yo foster kid keeps correcting me whenever I call Stitch a boy, because she has this false memory of Lilo calling Stitch "she" in the movie, and will not be persuaded otherwise.
My kid has also watched the entire tv series on disney+ and despite knowing Stitch has a girlfriend called Angel, has no problem understanding their relationship, despite no one telling her what a lesbian is.
#i also have a 4yo foster kid who likes pink#its not his favourite colour#but hes still in that early stage of development where no one has told him he cant like pink#and its very refreshing watching a boy who treats pink as another colour#and isnt scared of it like grown ass men are#his school teddybear has a pink thread because when they got to pick which colour they wanted he wanted his teachers favourite colour#the foster kids each got a blanket from the social worker#and he took the pink one because it was the closest#his sister wasnt bothered despite pink being her favourite colour because they were just excited to havw new stuff that was theres#they got new bikes last week and switch all the time#because kids are still in that developing stage of interacting through the world by touching and sharing#no one has told them what they can and cant have#and i want to keep it that way

Fewer Troi-centric episodes about weird dudes being creepy to her, more Troi-centric episodes where she gets to be a cool spy and yell at Romulans! That ROCKED!!
#Let! Her! Be! Scary!#girl is KILLING it with those Bluff checks#god that was so refreshing#after the end of S5 i realize it's a Troi ep and I'm just like hmmm which writers do i have to kill?#but this was so good!#still got kidnapped but it wasn't in a creepy way#and she was allowed to rage about it#we're ignoring the fact that that spaceship must have the best soundproofing in the galaxy#given that no-one heard the Very Loud Yelling About Treason that was happening constantly#i don't care#let her yell#she deserves it#to boldly split infinitives#tng liveblog

[Henry] had asked Lady Shelton whether Mary [was] persisting in her obstinancy. Hearing that she was, Henry became certain that she was being encouraged by secret communication from Katharine. Lady Shelton thought the only possible messenger was Mary's chamber woman. In this she was correct. The maid had been smuggling letters in and out. She was dismissed, as was Mary's confessor, to be replaced by one whom Chapuys characterised as 'Lutheran'.
The King’s Pearl: Henry VIII & His Daughter Mary, Melita Thomas
#as i'm going through this refresher in tandem with reading weir's new novel...#she actually writes shelton as being the one that managed to get her mother's letters to her into her hands#even for fiction that feels...far fetched#ostensibly someone had to be getting her letters from chapuys as well; even chapuys reports at times#that he doesn't know how it's possible she's getting letters out to him#but i doubt it was either of the boleyn aunts here#nor margaret bryan; anne's maternal aunt#even the interpretation that anne was a nonentity by this point and had no clout; basically#would not bear this out; if they didn't fear anne then they certainly would've had reason to fear henry#and i doubt they would've circumvented what he ordered#until after jan 1536 (where shelton is allowing visitors from chapuys bcus she's been sent gifts) this just does not seem to be the case#melita thomas#(also had weir been more faithful to primary sources. then this interpretation would mean shelton threw this chamber woman under#the bus...which she did; but in her rendering it would be to save her OWN skin#rather than at great personal risk which is what she#portrays; for the construction a sympathetic character in lady shelton)#i also think there's a question of agency on this unnamed maid's part that i don't really ever seen given space...#insofar as the hierarchy of privilege etc#was she actually willing to risk her income to do this? that's generally how it's portrayed#but it's just as possible that she felt constrained to do so bcus mary; despite her demoted status; was obviously her superior#even if not her employer#not to mention after being dismissed for such a reason; it's not like she was going to get a reccomendation to another household#it's fair to talk about how both coa and mary were placed in these hostile environments but the hostility and tension#those placed as their servants (not those that had chosen to be there; like elizabeth darrell for coa)#is again...not given the same space; generally#it was probably very frustrating to serve two highly privileged women that refused to answer or look at or acknowledge them#because they were addressing them as the law required.#you can imagine the eye-rolls of the servants which coa called 'gaolers'. since. yk.#a person of a servant's status was likely to have a friend or relative that spent time in an *actual* jail cell. if not themselves .

am i out of my mind or was this not a positive reaction lol
#bridgerton#violet has been pushing francesca away from john the whole season!#it’s like. a whole minor plot point that violet is baffled & a little put off by francesca & john’s deeply autistic courting rituals lol#which i think is an interesting idea! because she’s always been so vocal about how she wants a love match for all of her children#but her ideals are very much modeled after her own experiences w/ her husband#she’s always seemed to know better than her children (daphne & anthony at least) about what’s truly best for them relationship-wise#and i think it’s kind of refreshing to see her sort of wrong footed here#i feel like it makes the reading of francesca as autistic feel even more authentic

I just finished Tristes Tropiques in r1999 and it's easily my new favorite main story chapter besides Vereinsamt, wow. It was so full of twists and betrayals and comradery and absolutely chilling reveals and moments, and so human and dramatic at the same time! They really captured a sense of passion while also carrying on the main story threads and I'm excited to see what new horrible places they takes us to. Also Ms. Kimberly your story is so sad, but no one made you trip through a door trying to fight a cat, or get mad when the dangerous red button you pushed with no hesitation didn't explode anything, or eat bread like that, I love her she's great.
#her song at the end really got me too oof#anyway what a great chapter#I was not at all expecting the betrayals and it made the story far more tragic and interesting going forward#they really captured the vibe of like. old dramas set in the Amazon#which is in some ways sad since just like them it glossed over the location in many ways and didn't have many actually local characters#but did very much provide the right environment for this type of story and intrigue and ruminations on outsiders pillaging South America#for it's riches and population with little regard to the people or land beyond what they could be exploited for#it made it very clear that Zeno and Manus Vindictae were both just the newest groups continuing this cycle#and that neither of them viewed anyone as valuable if they weren't serving them in some way#and in a refreshing take didn't blame the favelas themselves for their poverty and violence#r1999

Award Season Guesses - late December 2024
Alright, well I still haven't seen The Brutalist (or Nickel Boys) because it's not releasing outside NYC and LA until sometime in January and I have no intention of seeing A Complete Unknown precisely because I am a Bob Dylan fan. So I haven't really updated my list of predictions from about a month ago or so. I am tempted to include The Substance but it is a sliiiiiim possibility given how the Oscars snubs work in horror. So here are my predictions as of late December 2024.
Above the Line Awards:
Alphabetical order as usual. My suspected winners in bold and runner-ups/potential "upsets in italics.
Best Picture:
Anora*
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave
Dune Pt 2
Emilia Perez
Nickel Boys
A Real Pain
Sing Sing
The Substance (????)
Wicked Pt 1
I am going on a limb and guessing The Substance does get in even though I think it is reeeeally a stretch. The Academy snubs horror films all the time, especially in acting (see Toni Collette in Hereditary and Mia Goth in Pearl). But the GG noms made me reconsider even though the GG is a critics/journalism awards show and the Oscars are an industry awards show and like any "election," demographic patterns vary. But actually if anything I think critics are snobbier about horror than industry people so that's a good sign. No idea what will win -- which is fun! 2024 was not nearly as good as 2023, which was an unusually packed year for great movies. But in a way, that makes Awards Season more fun because there isn't a clear front runner. I am leaning Anora right now for BP like I have been all year, but I would NOT underestimate either Wicked or Emilia Perez. I don't like the latter movie very much and while I did really enjoy Wicked I wouldn't say it was the best of the year. But don't underestimate the Oscars leaning populist because all three of the last BP winners in awards season were very much "crowd pleasers" over more "artsy" choices like Power of the Dog or Poor Things. (It feels odd to call Oppenheimer a "crowd pleaser" as that movie is so bleak, but technically, it counts in the sense that many people saw it and both general audiences and industry people liked it. So I'd put it next to EEAO and CODA as a "crowd-pleaser" Best Picture winner and a "populist" choice due to it making so much money because of Barbeheimer despite being, technically, a kinda weird movie when you dissect it. So don't underestimate Wicked!).
Best Director: Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), maaaaybe Coralie Fargeat, but ONLY if The Substance gets into Best Picture. I have taken Denis Villeneuve (Dune Pt 2) out of my predictions even though he deserves it because Dune Pt 2 was better than the first one. But until I see The Brutalist, I can't evaluate it. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a rare Best Picture and Best Director split.
Best Actress in A Lead Role: Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Perez), Angelina Jolie (Maria), Mikkey Madison (Anora).....and if and only if The Substance The Substance gets into picture, maaaaaybe Demi Moore. She probably deserves it (I haven't seen The Substance because I'm squeamish), but the Academy is awful about nominating horror performances (see Toni Collette for Hereditary). The alternative might be Nicole Kidman for Babygirl.
Best Actor in a Lead Role: Adrian Brody (The Brutalist), Timothee Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Daniel Craig (Queer), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave).
I am leaning Brody based on trailers alone (the Academy loves an accent and a WWII-post Holcaust drama) but even if Chalamet is mid -- and apparently he is quite good -- the Academy isn't above rewarding lame music biopics. See Austin Butler's nomination for Elvis and Rami Malek winning for Bohemian Rhapsody. ACU is apparently good -- I really hate that kind of biopic so I am not there for it -- so all Chalamet has to do to be decent for the boomer crowd who likes Dylan to vote for him.
Best Supporting Actress: Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), Zoe Saldana (Emilia Perez), Margaret Qualley (The Substance).
Still leaning Saldana but Grande is not to be underestimated (the Academy are more likely to award comedic performances in supporting -- see Ryan Gosling's nom last year. He might have won if RDJ didn't have The Narrative). I am putting Rosselini in there now that she got into GG and if I am going to lean towards The Substance, maybe Qualley. Felicity Jones isn't doing well in critics circles but I think if The Brutlaist is popular, she could be the Emily Blunt of the season (the person who gets nominated for being in a popular movie and tags along but doesn't win anything, which is what happened with Emily Blunt last year because Oppenheimer was so popular with the industry and critics that she got a lot of "tag along" noms but no real wins).
Best Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Clarence Maclin (Sing Sing), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Denzel Washington (Gladiator II)...and someone else. Idk maybe one of the Anora guys (Yura Borisov (Igor?). I don't see the supporting performances from Conclave aside from Rosselini getting in because while everyone was good...that is part of the problem. No one but her really stood out because everyone in the supporting cast was so solid and I think Anora is a bit similar in that regard except that Borisov's character sticks out as having a sliver of decency. It's weird to think that the sentence "Oscar winner Kieran Culkin" might be a thing. As much as I like Culkin from Succession, my actual vote would be Maclin. But no one saw that movie :( I am including Washington even though Gladiator II got poor to mixed reviews because he's Denzel. He is such a great actor who was snubbed for his best performances that now they nominate him all the time to make up for it, and it's such a weak year in this category that I'm not complaining.
Original Screenplay: Idk what is original and adapted, but I think Anora wins Screenplay, especially if it doesn't win Best Picture. The recent trend is sometimes to throw a movie that won't be awarded anywhere else a screenplay award (see last year with both American Fiction and Anatomy of A Fall). The other possibility might be A Real Pain if they decide to award it.
Other than Anora, I think: The Brutalist, A Real Pain, The Substance, and maybe September 5 if they follow the Globes (which they don't always do because the Golden Globes are a press/critics award and the Oscars are industry so different voting demographics).
Adapted Screenplay: No idea what is even in this category. The distinction between Original and Adapted is pretty arbitrary at times (see: Barbie in Adapted last year). My guesses are A Complete Unknown (based on a specific Dylan bio apparently), Conclave (based on a novel), Emilia Perez (I think inspired by something?), Sing Sing (loosely based on a true story) and idk what the fifth slot is.
Who I think will win in the tech categories:
Best Production Design: Wicked. Dune Pt 2 might be an upset.
Costume: Obviously Wicked.
Special Effects: Probably Dune Pt 2 but it could be something I haven't heard of that the effects branch likes, because that happens often.
Hair and Make Up: If The Substance gets in, maaaybe. This is the one category that horror is recognized so I wouldn't be surprised if The Substance and maybe even Nosferatu gets in. But it might be Wicked if the Academy does what it often does and people outside the nominating branches just vote for the movie they like more, in which case it would be Wicked. Dune Pt 2 should get at least a nomination for Rebecca Ferguson's possessed henna.
Cinematography: Either Conclave or Anora. It really depends how 1) Anora does in general and 2) if it does well, if there is a "share the love" vibe. The Academy doesn't do the massive Titanic/Lord of the Rings sweeps anymore (and I'm fine with that) -- see last year giving Zone of Interest the Sound award and American Fiction got Adapted Screenplay when a lot of people thought Oppenheimer was a lock for both because it was the BP frontrunner and, if this was the 2000s, probably would have taken them by default. In the EEAAO year, an Edward Berger film (All Quiet on the Western Front) won cinematography over EEAAO in an upset, so it wouldn't be unprecedented if that happened again with Conclave.I hope it's not Emilia Perez. That movie is very flashy but I don't like the cinematography much. It's all flash no style. Dune Pt 2 will definitely be nominated but I feel like its spring release hurt it.
Score: It'd be cool if Challengers got nominated but I don't see it, unfortunately. The score branch is not that cool and prefers instrumental scores over tech/synth music, even though Trent has been nominated before. I don't know what will win, since Dune 2 is not even eligible.
Sound Design: It better be Dune Pt 2. I think Wicked and probably A Complete Unknown will get nominated because of the music mixing (which, in Wicked, was very subtle and well done and apparently ACU sounds great too). But I really don't like biopics about musicians so I'd rather it not. I wouldn't mind a Wicked nom here, but Dune Pt 2 is so inventive in its sound design that I am rooting for it.
#And to clarify why I say I hate biopics but Amadeus is one of my favorite movies of all time#and Oppenheimer was my pick for BP last year#those movies are quite different than the typical musical/celebrity biopic#when you watch Elvis or Spencer or Jackie or Frost/Nixon (which is a good movie!)#or Bohemian Rhapsody#you have a clear idea of what Elvis and Princess Diana and Jackie Kennedy and Nixon and Freddie Mercury sounded like#how they talked how they moved their image and I get tired of the very baity impressions#not many people go into Oppenheimer (even if you have read books on the subject) with a clear idea of what he sounded like#or his posture. Sure if you look at photos and video Cillian Murphy DID his job but it's not a direct impression#and no one cares because you aren't silently comparing his voice the whole film so I don't see it as a baity biopic role the way Ana what's#her name was a Marilyn Monroe#and in Amadeus...well....aside from the fact it is mostly fictional we don't have a recording of what the real Mozart sounded like#we just have second-hand accounts and that movie exaggerated it bc so much of it is from Salieri's POV#So I would put Murphy and Tom Hulce's performance in Amadeus in a different category#bc they are playing real people but they aren't trying that hard to do an impression and that is refreshing#also I am not a massive Christopher Nolan fan but he said something either last summer or in Oscar campaigning about biopics that hit the#nail on the head. Something along the lines of how *biopic* is not a genre#Lawrence of Arabia is an adventure story Citizen Kane is a psychological drama#Oppenheimer is part origin story part heist movie part court drama#the context was Nolan talking about his influences not bashing anyone#but in doing so he accidentally articulated precisely what i DON'T like about most biopics#there is no drama there is no GENRE and no internal impetus to care about the story unless you like the music of the person or are invested#and no even for musicians I like or stories I find interesting in terms of film making a lot of biopics are pretty lazy in that regard#then again my biggest issue with Maestro was how LITTLE Cooper cared about Bernstein's music so there's a line#lior liveblogs awards season

#they’re just. yeah#one day I’ll figure out eyrie’s post ARR timeline bc they are included#eyrie doing everything besides being in Mor Dhona#they are around when Moen is there though because it’s refreshing having someone new around#they like her and she picks up on it very easily that they do like her#I think about her quiet conversation in northern thanalan and how they talk a lot more after that#and how they fall into this friendship that ends all too soon#which after that eyrie spends even less time in mor dhona#I’m glad there were events to shake things up outside of eyrie’s control because they were getting close to violently shaking#things up themselves#tired of being asked to do things. feeling as if they had no choice. no one else can do this#when do they get a rest? who knows#oc: eyrie kisne#the bahamut raids were a case of a perfect distraction#from ignoring linkpearl calls#it just ended up being far more than they bargained for XD

oh my god a web novel that actually draws a realistic line in the sand about wierd transmigration age gaps??? the bar is so low but it sure is refreshing when a series clears it
#cause like. im also 28 same as him#cause like. its a ridiculous fantastical circumstance right.#mental age is bullshit in real life. even if someone 'acts mature' for their age 19 is 19.#but this is a fantasy novel with a fantasy circumstance. how are you gonna navigate that. mental age or physical age. which takes precedence#and he makes the very relatable decision of: yes i know she is An Adult but her PHYSICAL BODY is a teenager. i have zero interest in that.#GOOD!!!#like itd be one thing if her body was like. 28 as well even if her original/mental/soul/whatever age is oldrr#shes well into Physical adulthood at that point so the difference is negligible#but that isnt the case here#anyways good job author-nim a+++#literally when it said she was 19 i was so ready for this to get weird but then the Immediate line in the sand...so refreshing#i realize ive got certain double standards/exceptions for this myself (ie choicale and gongja/raviel)#still at least theres caveats to those that make them. questionable sure but not Outright Yikes if you dont approach them like a freak dhskd

The Percy Jackson renaissance and The Hunger Games renaissance happening in the same year is something so special to me
#truly the year of the adaptation#interested to see the impact it has generally#the original rise of middle grade/ya heroism and dystopia (starting w harry potter and careening over a cliff with divergent)#and so obviously became The Formula because of how well it did commercially#i feel differently about them both bc#this pjo show is so clearly a labor of love and ik there is a lot of care being put into all of rick's endeavors these days#from writing/“presenting” authors of different identities to casting a black annabeth and defending it and putting in work to give her#character a true story consistent with that identity#and while for tbosas i fully trust suzanne Collins and believe in the book as an important part of thg story and relevant for readers today#i cannot trust the movies' integrity purely because of what i take to be the point of the series#and thg movies in the past were immediately victims of the exact thing the books tried to critique#anyway idk how media literate the kids are these days#interested to see how this wave of adaptation shapes what media is and will become#also theres an interesting enough thought about how pjo is already adaptation of greek myth to begin with#it was very very refreshing and surprising to hear sally jackson say “who says she was a monster” about medusa#and i think that says a lot about what this particular series will become#much like the heroes of olympus was a more diverse adaptation of percy jackson's stories without retcon'ing the characters#which would have been insulting#cough cough#this series is a respectful adaptation of the original series by enriching what was already there#and using the difference in media to portray what the books might have missed AND to adapt the characters#into more relevant versions of themselves#i.e. “no one thinks i'm smart cause i'm a dumb blonde” annabeth is much less plausible in the 2020s than#“no one thinks i'm capable because i'm a black girl” annabeth#its just more relevant overall to its viewerbase#and that's a Good adaptation#so far ofc. but i'm very openminded about this show where i'm very suspicious of any hunger games adaptations#pjo#percy series#thg
