What is your signature technique within hypnosis? Which scene idea/induction do you feel is your *brand*?

I subscribe to the Seinfeldian school of hypnosis (it’s a trance about nothing):

and the Whoseline-ic induction methodology (the rules are made up and the points don’t count):

Seriously, though, I don’t really do a lot of “scenes” in the way that folks seems to define that term? When I do hypnosis, 98 percent of the time it’s trance for the sake of trance, or just playing with otherwise vanilla suggestions that are hot because of the context.

There’s rarely a plan; I don’t do roleplay or much in the way of d/s dynamics. As a hypnotist, I really, really struggle to have the idea of what to do. I’m way, way better at taking an idea or a concept that someone wants and kind of sussing out how to get there.

Induction-wise, I don’t know when I quit worrying and learned to love the monologue, but when I internalized the concept that trance hinges far more on rapport than on technique, it was… oddly freeing. I do standard tropey/symbolic stuff when I put people under, language things and touches and fixation, but it’s very, very improvisational and of the moment. It’s less that saying “the deeper you go…” has some special power as it is that when I’m playing with someone, they’re very very often a giant hypnosis nerd, and those words have an emotional response.

Also, to be clear, I’m saying this like I’m some genius, and that is *not true.* Folks have studied and forgotten more legitimate information about hypnosis and trance than I could ever conceivably learn, and I need to study more and be smarter about this stuff.

But in the end, I think my style really is focused on collaboration with the person I’m hypnotizing - finding rapport and common ground and then just seeing where that leads; paying attention to what makes them respond and using that to steer in a direction that meets our goals.
